I just bought a 1993 Volvo 240 sedan, In single stage white. I pretty much took the whole thing apart in my driveway 😂 all the exterior and interior. Sprayed fluid film on “All” of the pinchwelds in the floor. Cleaned everywhere on it. Now I’m gonna clay it, compound it, polish it then use the ultimate liquid wax
Aw congrats buddy! She's in good hands that's for sure
Thanks, I’ll keep her nice 👍
Love the videos keep ‘em up
Can't believe it shines like that for the age.
It's held up really well over the years!
Volvo only uses the best paints on their vehicles.
@@bobjohnson1587 Don't make them like they used to.
@@englishgrandad3298 yeah that's true, even the 940 paint suffers a fair bit from lacquer peel! Then again they are getting on for 30 years old
Lovely Lilly
Not Lily the pink but Lily the purple! Great job Sledge, you made an old lady look young again.
I've not heard that song before but I'm going to listen to it shortly 😃 Thanks
@@Involvod Oops, I forgot that you are far too young Sledge!
@@fannycraddock99 😄😄😄
Oh mate, she’s looking beautiful
Thanks mate!!
Wow, and now 10 kmh extra top speed 😁
Haha yeah I wouldn't be surprised 😄
She's a beauty
She is isn't she!
shame about that yobbo who scratched the bonnet lol. That bloody car looks better every time i see it😍
😄 Thanks mate
Real nice looking car. Its an honest car with that scare. Thats the store of the life of the car. It is its history
That's exactly my thoughts on it, thanks!
Now the Brit Expat has me wanting some clay compound for my 240!
Get on it Carlton!! 😃
@@Involvod Bloody wankah! Where in the hell do you get that clay??
@@Involvod Seriously who carries that stuff?
I use a clay mitt. Much easier and quicker and you don't have to worry about dropping the darn bar on the ground and throwing it away because of dirt.
Great job considering having to work on the street. Difficult to even have a break and a cup of tea. Maybe the first job would be to have wet sanded roof with 2500 Wet and dry with a bit of soap. Would have saved the clay bar a bit. On a side note , an old chap once told me to just buy some putty, much cheaper, it does the same as long as kept moist. Haven’t tried it yet. I admire your dedication.
That might have been a good idea I forgot about the power of wet sanding. Thanks, putty sounds like something worth looking into and the old timers know a thing or two! The branded clay bars are pretty expensive
And I appreciate you watching since the start of the channel!
Beautiful result
Thanks!
Looks nice. I need to clay bar my car.
Cheers, it's so satisfying!
After all that hard work that colour is really popping!
Cheers!
just got a 780 I need to do this to!
It's not a 408 Red Pearl one is it? Just saw someone on Instagram pick one up, can't be many around these days!
I used to have a garage and driveway in the US, now on a street on the French Riviera. My wax dries instantly lol.
Pro tip. I used to detail and i clay bar the windows, you'll be shocked what comes off. Use lots of lubrication too. I used to put on pure carnuba wax by hand as in bare hands, melts it and goes on super smooth. Did my dad's windshield after it got repaired, soooooo much over spray came off. Glad I made it in your video mate ty.
I don't know which i'd prefer 😃 Thanks again, can't wait to try it, there's alot of stuff on the glass on this car!
@@Involvod i don't get any snow here. Yes i use it on my car once a year since I street park lots of sap and junk on the windshield. Works a treat if you wax or ceramic coat after. Water just beads off.
Good job 👍
Cheers!
Dat color 😎👌🏻
That was a fair bit of work but it's definitely worth your effort. The colour is really nice and a great shine, well done.
Thanks mate!
Love the road side detail! Thats dedication.
Thanks buddy, was still enjoyable, if I had a driveway/garage I'd probably be always be doing it 🤣
@@Involvod I know what you mean. Before we road tripped the rx7's I had to sneak a late night rub out session alone in the garage. Car looked great afterwards!
Haha thank you fella! I love NXT. She is looking so much better too, well done on your efforts! Honestly clay barring is one of those most satisfying things ever 😂
Thanks, I'm sure happy with it and with how long that tin should last, 20-something euros feels cheap!
@@Involvod yeah it lasts for ages 😄
@@RichieRouge206 maybe not as long as it should with the amount I was putting on 😄
Awesome job ! About time I did my S60R I think 🤔
Thanks! Do it it's so satisfying!
Very nice job.
Thanks!
Good day sledge, u have done a fine job detailing the paint on her, keep up the great work my friend!😉
Thanks buddy!
Another thing you should try is Dry Ice, that would leave the car like new
Looks amazing !
Thanks 😉
dig the music at 11:30
Thanks, it's 'Oak City - Sarah the Illstrumentalist'
Quite a dramatic improvement! I like the idea of treating one panel at a time, whenever I can spare a few moments, then leave the wax to dry fully before buffing out.
Volvo paint is wonderful stuff. My 240 sat in a yard for several years, periodically being showered with wild berries which were acidic and of course anointed by the birds. The paint (light metallic blue) went unwashed and untreated until I revived the car, and suffered no lasting damage.
I liked the idea too but in reality the overlap turned out to be a huge problem 😄 But it's great to be able to do it in stages instead of dedicate so many hours in one go, it's hard work!
Nice save on yours, got the light blue metallic to do on the 740 next, can't wait! (Maybe just a few more days though 🥴😂)
Hey Sledge! Great video.
Two tips:
1. With your clay, use a little clean warm water/wash soap solution to aid lubrication.
2. With the paste wax, use less than you think. A really thin coat, that hazes/bonds and wipes away easily is your goal.
Thanks 😎
Wow! It looks beautiful. Great result. 👌🏻 I’ve been polishing too the last couple of days. Enjoy the finishing touch by making the plastics black. You seem so happy with this car, that’s super!
It's certainly the weather for it 😃 Thanks mate!
I’ve been needing to do this forever to the R32! Feels exactly the same, just like sandpaper 😅
Takes a while to get to doesn't it, especially as it's a big job to begin, so worth it though I feel 100x better now 😄
Inspired me to give my 740 and 940 a good ol detail. Love the content dude, perfect with my spliff and noodles this evening
Thanks! I need to my 740 and 940 too 😅
the paint looks great, nice job!
Cheers!
Great result! 😊 Though, i have some tips. Dont use hole clay bar, just take a little bit and squeeze it flat. Then throw it away. Minimize the risk of getting scratches from dirt inside clay. If you want your black plastic detail as brand new, use only polytrol/owatrol paint renewer!
Thanks! I was worried about scratches with such a cheap bar, was quite firm too. I'll check out owatrol, last time I used Sonax and it did last a good while for a cheap gel
For the black "tape" or paint on the doors that is cracked, carefully remove the paint, and use a "chrome delete" tape. This will really improve the looks on the doors and hole impression.
Thanks mate I appreciate the tips
Wow! What a spectacular effect! I wish I had so much patience and dedication as you have :). The road to my house is kind of gravel dusty one with a lot of construction sites, so whenever I wash it's full dust on within a few hours 😂. But Lilly has the potential!😍
I know what you mean mate, with the trees where I park the car normally it's covered in tree sap and bird poop within a day 🙄 However hopefully now it will clean up easier 😄
Doing the plastic accents around the windows would be very helpful! I would love to see how those are fixed, got 3 volvos at this point and they all need that fixed :D
Polytrol is your answer.
@@bosabengt Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't polytrol just restore the plastic colour? Not actually be fixing the cracked plastic film?
@@herrjonna2007 Aha ok you ment around the Windows. Either you remove the trim and respray. Or you can buy a chrome delete tape as a easier way but still durable.
@@bosabengt perfect, exactly what I was looking for! Thanks
How quickly a wax is ready to be removed depends on several factors; some of those include humidity, temperature, sun / clouds and the compounds in the wax. I generally wait until a light haze appears and then remove it. If you wait too long, it becomes nigh impossible to remove it!
Wonderful to see this, you did a smashing job of bringing back the colour and reflectiveness of the paintwork! Claybars always scared me somewhat but seeing you use it, I may give it a go. So nice to see another enthousiast who has to work outside o lot of the time; driveway tinkering is a different way of working on cars and your videos show how that can be fun.
Thanks mate! It is a bit scary, I think I would be very hesitant if I wasn't compounding afterwards to remove any light scratches etc
That scratch might even polish out, could only be lacquer deep.I would polish out her paint and see.
What a result, looks great man. Be interested to see how you tackle the black sticker stuff around the windows. I used an eraser wheel, it took a while and a lot of elbow grease. I decided to leave it off as I like the look. Keep well dude 🤘
Thanks man, yeah I think I'm going to do the same and see how it looks!
How did your arms feel after that? Looks great! Such a pretty car! Well done
I was exhausted 🤣 But so worth it! Thanks!
I have the same car, well usa 1989.
Same color. Do you know the paint code ? I have to paint fender scratch. Your a genius for Titles
Hope it grows!
Cheers! It's 406, the best colour, or I should say color 😄
@@Involvod sweet! My 740 is a 406 as well, suits these cars really nicely with all the chrome trim to go along. Great work on the paint by the way!
@@general_ascona Agreed! Thanks!
The only other thing is the black tape by the windows
I can't wait!
@@Involvod the 240 GL looks nice
