We are restoring our home in Crescent City, CA. Built in 1946, so very good bones. We put in a laundry chute. It has a ship porthole as the door to the chute on the 2nd floor and leads directly to the laundry room below. I am so glad that you have an original. I also LOVE toilets behind doors. No pocket door for us. When you open the vintage door with vintage glass doorknob to the 'water closet', you see the corner vintage sink, the bidet directly across and the toilet next to the bidet behind the door. LOve IT!
Our laundry chute is mounted on the wall next to our claw footed cast iron bathtub, which is free standing outside of the water closet next to the master bedroom.
Before replacing the couch, try pulling the pair of chairs up onto the rug away from the wall to create a cozier conversation area. By doing so, the couch may not seem so small.
Gorgeous and so exciting! Wish we lived closer, we have a Malm black carousel fireplace that we are looking to sell. Love it but, we have a white one in our other room and I need the space in my studio.
Don't worry about your ficus tree. They don't like change. Once it gets use to its area, it'll do fine. Your home is WOW. I'm proud of you guys. You both deserve it. Well done. Take care and God bless.
The secret is employing skilled tradesmen to bring your vision forward. The happiness, joy and smile on your face is wonderful. May God continue to bless you and your husband.
I can’t think of anyone more hardworking, more talented and more grateful, graciousness, genuine nor more DESERVING that you! Congratulations on such a fabulous accomplishment!! It’s a beautiful canvas - a gorgeous home! You did it!!
Love the choice of materials in your kitchen. You might want to try moving your leather chairs closer to the couch for a conversation area, instead of against the wall.
I love your mid-century eye and style! I will guess that your ficus is losing leaves because it is acclimating to a new environment after moving. The light, air, water, temperature, and humidity are all different for the plant. Also, check to see if the ficus is in a drafty part of the room. Things like high traffic areas, air vents, heat vents, doors opening and closing, fans, fireplaces, and how the air flows through the room, etc. can cause a draft. Ficus tend to lose their leaves when they are exposed to a drafty spot in the room too. I hope this helps!
Love love love your house and how your are personalizing it to your own taste. The view is spectacular! Enjoy every step of the decorating the same as you enjoy the hunt for all those beautiful items you thrift.
Your home is coming along! I love the wood choice for the cabinets and the concrete look countertops (much more practical). i think the creek name should be Revival Creek, goes with your business name and since it is dry in the summer & is revived in the wet months.
It's looking beautiful. I hope you leave the bricks alone when you find another fireplace. That brick is beautiful. Please show us more of your boys. They've probably been very busy exploring, and inspecting everything.
The ficus is definitely just shocked from the change. I have a large ficus tree as well, and when i moved it dropped ALL of its leaves. Was quite a shock. But it came right back and looked even healthier. Its been in the family for quite some time and i can say they are pretty hard to kill. No need to worry!
Plants get stressed during moves. Just let it be and hopefully it will come back. I am OBSESSED with the concrete counters and the TILE!!!! OMG, everything is looking so great!
A home that brings nature right in. It must be hard but a labor of love to try to demo and decorate at the same time. And keeping those beautiful long nails intact. Thanks for a home peek in your progress. It's wonderful.
I'm not into mid-century, but I do appreciate it. You've done a stunning job. The kitchen is fabulous. And it looks like you are living in a tree house. You found a good one. Congrats.
I agree. I don’t decorate MCM… but I totally love her channel and the awesome transformation. It looks so lovely Laura. I was also thinking … oh please use the concrete look counter on the island too … then it comes out that you did ! Love it. Enjoy your new digs
The word of the day’ excited’! You are darling Laura. That linoleum under the sink in bathroom was the most popular pattern of the era. My parents had it in their 1950’s home for many years.
Gosh in Australia we have to get special trades in to deal with asbestos removal in any building. Be really careful fibres on your clothes can also be dangerous. What a stunning home you have . I love the blue marble island top so prett
Having just moved a few months ago, I can't help but laugh at your cats, because mine just went through the same thing. Your cats are BEAUTIFUL, btw. You may tell them they have worshippers from afar. Well, Wyoming, so not too afar I think, but, anyway. Your home is absolutely lovely. I generally am not a fan of mid-century style but your mid-century style I love. One thing in particular I wanted to comment on was your end space on your island. You made the comment that you hadn't styled it, but I have to say it was so good to see something not magazine-perfect. It 100% took your kitchen from "showroom" to "home."
Laura, think about where you want dimmers on your lighting. After a couple of builds I decided that it was nice to have dimmers in the bedroom, in the dining room, and even in a hallway where you might want lighting at night. Also if you want outlets for any holiday decor and lighting on porches, fireplaces etc.
Everything is SOOO BEAUTIFUL!! Just so you will know, Sylacauga, Alabama is called the "Marble City". As I understand it, Sylacauga is the only place in the USA, that has White Marble.
What a beautiful home that you and Jessie have created for yourselves! Ficuses don't like the cold. Mine always losses leaves in the winter but new baby leaves come back on the spring. Just keep testing the soil for dampness and water when needed. In the summer they need much more than in the winter.
Laura you are a Artist and they may take inspiration from things but they always go with their gut instincts!!!! I too ❤️ Marble and the dramatic stable you both were interested in but your right the cabinets have the drama!!! I 💜 creating one of a kind things so when people see them they want them and you know that it came from your vision!! Thank you for your uniqueness!!!!
I'm loving all the house pictures and news. It really is shaping up to be a showplace...yet warm and inviting. I had a ficus about that size when I lived in Portland. As i recall, it just lost a bunch of leaves every once in awhile and then stopped and was gorgeous for awhile. Some sort of cycle they have. I mean, a leaf can't last forever.
My parents bought a cabin at a lake in the fifties and remodeled it. They wanted a cone shaped fireplace & ended up having a metal shop fabricate to their design and size the perfect one. It was set upon a brick foundation octagon shaped pad at a height for sitting around it at sofa height. Make sense? I loved it as a child.
Laura I am so excited. I have just found off marketplace here in Queensland Australia, a mid century padded rocking chair. Danish style. Teak. $160! I have just seen one on Pinterest selling for $1700!
Your living room is stunning, esp the windows! My eyes were immediately drawn to that strong, horizontal line -- that just "makes" the room. Big windows would, of course, be beautiful, but you'd lose that horizontal, mid-century design element that's so perfect in that room. I love how your house is coming along. And the kitty perch!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the kitchen cabinets, tile, and black accents in the kitchen. When you were doing the demolition work I was wondering how your manicure held up. L.O.L. Here in N.Y. C. you have to hire a professional asbestos removal company to remove and dispose of it. When we replace our furnish we have to do that because it has sealed asbestos on it. ( it looks like a pizza oven ). It's an old furnish that works great but was installed many, many years ago. I love seeing all your treasure spread out around the house and can't wait to see everything finished. Great work guys!
The kitchen is just beautiful! Your tree soil needs to dry out before watering again , fertilize every three weeks with diluted down plant food! Leave it where it is, it's getting used to its new home and light source, suggest watering with filtered water instead of tap water! Enjoy your new kitchen!
It’s all gorgeous! Just stunning! The kitchen is fabulous, so calm, very serene and inviting! You’ve made so much progress! Very, very impressive! And kitty in his window on the world, surveying his kingdom! What a hoot! I’m a cat lover too! Much affection from the city of Detroit! Linda
I’m a cottage style girl but your style is stunning! Your kitchen is absolutely gorgeous! We remodeled our kitchen and it was so fun to design and hunt for but I discovered something about myself, I hate not having floors! We gutted our kitchen which included our entryway so we had to walk on dirty plywood and it stressed me out so much but the wood flooring was worth it! Thankfully ours only took exactly 30 days from a Friday night emptying the kitchen to a Friday night moving back in! (This was about 15 years ago)
You've done an absolutely beautiful job remodeling! The hickory wood cabinets are understated - so low key gorgeous- the vertical lines are stunning. It would be so cool if, where you have the shelf to the left of the stove, you had a row of pottery mugs hanging down - they'd be gorgeous against the backsplash. Your living area windows look so so nice the way they are. When your living area is viewed from your kitchen such a cool clean vibe is given off -so crisp and refreshing! What you see out all of the windows is beauty because you can't see the mess on the ground. People forget to clean up their outdoor area, that can be seen from the inside, when they have the floor to ceiling windows and it messes up the interior beauty of the living space. When windows are ground level they must constantly be cleaned on the outside because dirt, old leaves, cobwebs, and debris end up on them. If you all are looking to stay with your beautiful crisp mid century feel then don't elongate your windows.
Your home is so different and I simply love it. From the floors to the cabinets which I have never seen any like them ever. You have such wonderful style Laura and I bet your family are so happy for you and Jesse that you moved back. Can’t wait until the next video.
Island wood, the hickory is breath taking! Kitchen is beautiful, it looks Asian-esque If you so much as look at a ficus tree the wrong way they die back, it may look ugly for a while but if you dont move it or give it drafts, it should make it. It needs same conditions and water, light and food as you did in the old place, see a greenhouse place ask them. Love the cats creeping around to explore, they gotta be happy ;)
It's miraculous how much you have transformed the house. It always had beautiful bones, but you've opened it up so much to allow for light and bright. It looks great without the heavy valances, and the kitchen is visionary. I couldn't imagine how it would come together, but it truly does. Bravissimo!
Enjoyed this so much. Loving what you two are doing and can't wait to see the rest. (Ficus do not like to be relocated. Or in cold or heat drafts. Now that you have it positioned; it will loose many leaves. But once it acclimates to its' new home, it should do well and put forth new growth.)😉
It all came together beautifully. So light and bright but still warm and inviting. Don’t worry about the ficus -mine did the same thing. It will be ok in time. Kitties are loving their new home!
I love all your choices and looking out the window is just fantastic. I am surprised that you didn’t have a dining table that can sit more people as you say that you love to cook and entertain friends and family. So happy for you both it’s truly amazing
What a beautiful space you and Jess have great taste in all the choices you have made in creating your beautiful home. I hadn't thought about your cats and how much they will enjoy looking outside your picture windows. Congratulations, can't wait to see what's next. 🎉🎊🥰🙏🐕🇺🇸
Wow wow wow Laura 🤩 so excited for you! And love everything you’ve done. It looks so amazing. Can’t wait to to see it completed. But remember it’s the journey. Your collections are a mid century aficionados dream. ❤️❤️❤️
This is stunning! Love what you ended up doing with the counters and cabinets. I'm also excited for you for your large pantry. Just make sure you have enough lighting in there!
How fun! My late husband and I loved remodeling our little bungalow in Vancouver. It's said the test in a marriage is remodeling. We had fun and just could'nt understand why people just could'nt get thru it and fun too. Our house is 103yrs old, not too far from your house you had here in Vancouver. Oh what treasure we found when the old walls came down. We found two pretty medicine bottles, a newspaper from the '50's at one end of the old porch and a newspaper from the '70's, the outline of the old stove on the wall, tube insulated for cloth covered wiring, push button lighty switches, etc. We told our builder we'd go 50-50 if he found a wad of moola. Alas it was'nt to be. Oh well. I love our updated little house. Thanks for all the inspiration. Enjoy the run up to a finished kitchen. Have fun! love ya, Mary.... the Tin Man's Mom
I'm in the process of designing my FIRST kitchen after years of reading design books, blogs, video etc.I have always been a vintage lover (I bought/repaired, and chalk painted furniture as a business) but when my husband and I downsized in our 70's we bought a contemporary condo in a 1982 building ina HIGHLY DESIRABLE neighborhood overlooking a lake in a tourist town. This is an invest property for us at our age, so that when we run out of our retirement savings, we can sell our condo and live off the proceeds for the rest of our life. So as a result, I opted for a light, bright and timeless design.
I love, love love, love the view outside those windows! It’s my dream to have a house with lots of trees, like a forest, right in my backyard. Did I mention how much I love that view?! ❤️
So glad you finally shared the remodel with us. Have been patiently waiting to see the progress. Love it !! Congratulations, your hard work has certainly paid off. Can't wait for the next phase.
You two are so gifted. And your work crew has done an amazing job!!! I get so excited when I see you have posted a video. You are my very favorite youtube channel!! Garden Answer is right behind you though! 😉 Thank you so much for sharing your ridiculously gorgeous home with us. I am very excited for outdoor videos in the Spring and Summer…. (Ask Garden Answer about your tree. I bet she can help!!) 😊
Looks beautiful! I love so many different decor styles when done right. I have an ebay store and it's so much fun to find pieces to love and keep. Makes your home so unique and beautiful. Great job!
Laura! You have such great taste! I LOVE what you did with the new kitchen. It’s so “you” but at the same time preserves the original beauty and the “character” of the home. I don’t know how you do it! Bravo!
Raccoons sure are cute, but they can do a horrific amount of damage. Love your kitchen! Thanks for sharing. I also love that you’re reclaiming the wasted space under the stairs.
I have quartz that looks like marble in my kitchen and 1 bathroom. Your kitchen looks lovely! Glad you have a dark sink, love your back splash. Really looks mid century modern. Some of your bright colored rugs will look gorgeous in your kitchen. Love your home
Ficus trees are very interesting. They grow indoor leaves when indoor and outside leaves when outdoors. They look the same to us, but they are not. Don't forget they do go dormant in the winter. Many think they are dead during this time. 🤔
Oh, p.s., as a girl I lived in a home with a creek very similar to the one you have. I hadn't thought of that in years until I watched your footage. It's lovely!
im so glad to hear the door will be upgraded.....miss laura when your done your home will be worthy of a pictorial in a design magazine you have awesome talent
Thank you for sharing your home! It is more beautiful because it is mix of amazing texture and great taste😁 I love it so much. So happy for you both. Welcome home guys💚🤟🏻👏🏻 How cute are JP and Lorenzo?!?!!!!!🥰😍
I love your style and how you make mid-century modern look great with out looking out dated. You guys have done a great job so far reviving that house. I have no doubt it will be magical.
Your house is beautiful! Your Ficus tree is beautiful! Ficus trees are very finicky . They don't like to be moved. If you find it's happy place leave it there!! It will lose leaves bc of the shock of the move but it will come back. They just naturally lose more leaves in the winter than the summer just like outside trees. Feed it a little less in winter than in summer. Love your videos!!
Love , love what you and Jesse have done so far, and I am so happy for you both . You work very hard to get your home the way you what it .keep up with the wonderful things you do xx
I would do a larger, rectangular table for the dining area- would help delineate that area. Pull the leather chairs & the other chair away from the walls to make a conversation area. Also, look for chairs & perhaps some end tables on either side of your sofa. That would better utilize the space & give you more options for seating.
I love that you stepped away from boring Shaker style cabinetry and ugly granite/marble countertops for the kitchen. You also didn't do the strange thing of putting a microwave over the cooktop. That is something that is just not done in my country and wouldn't get pass building control anyway. However, I would not have gone for that splashback because it is going to need a lot of cleaning to keep dust and grease from settling into the grooves. Look forward to seeing the final reveal.
I have to say before I found your channel I thought I hated mid-century but I just love all your finds and the way you style them. Kitchen is going to be awesome
I love your new kitchen. It is perfect. I would try and move your chrome and leather matching chairs away from the wall and up close to the rug and blue couch, making it part of the seating.
Hi there, so much fun looking at stone. I just had my kitchen redone a couple months ago. Stressful, but fun at the same time. I did Nuage quartzite counter tops and I love it! Expensive, but worth it.
Your Hickory cabinets are awesome and kitchen and house shows your love of living there. I live in a 1952 ranch and in 2004 we put a similiar style of Hickory cabinets in our kitchen with concrete countertops done by ourselves and a friends expert help. We still love it all and everything has held up well. P.S. You're a fabulous picker.😎
Oh Laura, I'm so happy to see your beautiful home makeover. You have so inspired me, I myself can see and envision things as you..your alot better..I have always loved decorating as you. Congradulations to you and Jesse.
We are restoring our home in Crescent City, CA. Built in 1946, so very good bones. We put in a laundry chute. Definitely! Their front edge should be on the rug.
Exactly! The chairs need to be closer to the rug.
I’m so excited to share what Jesse and I have been up to the last few months!!! 👷🏻♀️🛠🪚🔧🪜
Me too! Very excited for you both!
The transition is incredible! Yes to the concrete! I see dinner parties. Confetti cannon for you and Jesse.
It looks so nice!! I'm so excited for the two of you!

Gorgeous and so exciting! Wish we lived closer, we have a Malm black carousel fireplace that we are looking to sell. Love it but, we have a white one in our other room and I need the space in my studio.

Love the choice of materials in your kitchen. You might want to try moving your leather chairs closer to the couch for a conversation area, instead of against the wall.
I thought the same thing

I think the brown leather chairs would like very nice at the edge of your carpet instead of against the wall.

The house is looking fantastic! Those counters are everything! They really show off your cabinets.
You could call the tree house "The Cocoon". 😊
It all came together beautifully. So light and bright but still warm and inviting. Don’t worry about the ficus -mine did the same thing. It will be ok in time. Kitties are loving their new home!
You’ve done a lovely job making your home blend with the nature it’s surrounded by. Can’t wait to see it finished. Great job so far!!
Your home is looking beautiful but very cozy and warm, I love it. You could name your Creek " Little Bridge Creek".
Looks fantastic Laura !!! So happy the "Boys" have adjust...they both are so beautiful or should I say...handsome !!!😻
Wow. Wow. Wow. I am so happy for you and hubby.
I love all your choices and looking out the window is just fantastic. I am surprised that you didn’t have a dining table that can sit more people as you say that you love to cook and entertain friends and family. So happy for you both it’s truly amazing
We're making a 10 foot table for our breezway that can be brought in for special occasions 😄 This one is perfect for just the two of us 🥰
What a beautiful space you and Jess have great taste in all the choices you have made in creating your beautiful home.
Hi 👋 dear , how are you doing?
So amazing the work you have done! Absolutely beautiful! The raccoon pent house is amazing too! So cute! So happy for both of you! So blessed!!
This is stunning! Love what you ended up doing with the counters and cabinets. I'm also excited for you for your large pantry. Just make sure you have enough lighting in there!
OMG! This kitchen is gorgeous. I love it.
Now, that's beautiful!...I fell in love with the ceiling and all the picture windows!
You are an amazing designer Laura!!! Your home is all coming together so beautifully!! So happy for you and Jesse!!!
I think the ficus is shocked and it might be too drafty when it drops leaves. You’re doing the right things, I think. Beautiful house.
Yes ficus are not fond of big moves! He will recover shortly....
I agree. I had a HUGE ficus and it recovered after moving homes. They don't like being moved but most likely will recover just fine! :)
Great job!
The concrete against the warm
Vertical wood grain is like something I’ve never seen before. It is so stunning. Congrats!
Wow! Stunning!!!! Love the cabinets, so unique. ♥️👍🏻
Oh my goodness, it's beautiful. Like a very large tree house. Congratulations!
You two did a spectacular job! It's exquisite! A toast to MANY happy, healthy, adventure-filled years to you!
Here in Florida, space can not be used. Considered a fire hazard which could trap you on an upper floor.
So grand! ❤️❤️❤️
I have quartz that looks like marble in my kitchen and 1 bathroom. Your kitchen looks lovely! Glad you have a dark sink, love your back splash. Really looks mid century modern. Some of your bright colored rugs will look gorgeous in your kitchen. Love your home
So exciting to see all the progress! It’s looking amazing!! And so glad the kitties are happy in their new home too. 🙂
It looks nice. You've got a beautiful house and a wonderful piece of property. I'm so happy that you found your dream home.
Welcome home guys💚🤟🏻👏🏻
How cute are JP and Lorenzo?!?!!!!!🥰😍
Wow, wonderful. Blessings.
Looks very beautiful. Love your cat's.
I love your style and how you make mid-century modern look great with out looking out dated. You guys have done a great job so far reviving that house. I have no doubt it will be magical.
The kitchen is literally looking like something out of a magazine! So unique and perfect for y'alls style. Loved it!
The woods visible all around your cozy home omg !!
So glad the boys are adjusting. Perfect home for a cats!
What a cat’s Paradise! 👍❤️
Love what you have done, the kitchen carpentry looks amazing. Can't wait too see the rest of it.
I adore the living room!!! I hope you show when the kitchen gets all the finishing touches! Enjoy.
Sooo nice! Those windows, it’s like your in the trees❤️ I love everything!♥️😻🇨🇦
Laura ya's home is just beautiful & your kitchen is to die for🤗
I have to say before I found your channel I thought I hated mid-century but I just love all your finds and the way you style them.
Your new home is turning out lovely, it’s not even my style but I love it. The kitchen is amazing can’t wait to see it finished 🥰
Laura and Jesse , your home will be beautiful! Just remember to not take down any support walls!! Fun to bread down walls , but keep that in mind!
😆 We hired a structural engineer! We know better than that 👍
It’s turning out so awesome. I’m so glad for you and your family and your kitters
Your ficus is fine! You are right about being shook up from the move. It's already regrowing so you are good!
Oh Laura, I'm so happy to see your beautiful home makeover. You have so inspired me, I myself can see and envision things as you..your alot better..I have always loved decorating as you. Congradulations to you and Jesse.
