Hello Laura You kept me interested and hopeful through the last year coping with cancer. I'm loving watching what you're all up to, as my body isn't what it used to be. I'm really happy and at peace because of channels like yours. God bless and help you and can't wait to see the development of your home and life. My cousin married a Cauldwell. All the best from Yorkshire
Ok, the woodstove is more efficient heating considering the volume of the room. Those high ceilings and all the windows is probably why the original owners chose the stove over a fireplace which is lovely but inefficient. Take a long while to think about that particular change. As for your new kitchen, I love it 100%! It's gonna be fabulous. I'm soooo so happy for you. 🙂❤
I was thinking the same. There are soooo many options for woodstoves that could not only be functional for added warmth but give them the fireplace ambience.
@Blue girl my stove went out on Thanksgiving morning one year that I was hosting. I ended up cooking almost everything in my fireplace. I made a bed of coals and pulled out all of my cast iron. I love a challenge! It was great!
@@sallyramaker1292 With all that open ceiling space, I would say their heating bills will be as high as the ceiling. That's why I think it's a great idea to keep other heating sources in place but it doesn't have to be a wood stove. As I wrote above, there are tons of options now to have the functionality of a wood stove but still get the "pretty" of a fireplace fire.
Awesome home. Can't wait to see what you do with it. Here's a few of my notes: 1. Start sourcing used brick now. You can find a match; it'll just take time and may take several sources to get enough. 2. Keep a downstairs fireplace. Wood is dry heat. Will help dispell moisture. Maybe consider a cool Malm or, if not wood, the Lloyd gel modern fireplaces are cool. 3. Skylights leak. Buy the best you can afford and get the best installer! 4. If you do a window wall in the loft, think about some louvers or something for airflow (I forgot this at my cabin when remodeling the loft... lesson learned!) Best wishes for your perfect forever home!!
Hi Laura I can’t belive your new home is amazing, beautiful,I know you an Jessie will be very happy ,an who knows you may hear tiny patter of feet new home new baby ,I wish you every happiness sending love an blessings Ann 🇬🇧♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Keep (but replace) a woodstove on your lower level; you'll be so glad you did when a Pacific winter storm blows through and you lose the power; the smaller room will heat better than the large main floor living room. A mid-century acorn or malm stove would be perfect!
I'm obsessed with those ceilings and beams, and pray you DON'T change the stain color -- those are such a rich, gorgeous, unique color! One tip I'd suggest (as a senior) -- since it's your forever home, and you're doing such a majpr remodel -- is to widen your doorways. Later in life, when you need a walker or wheelchair (or even just temporarily after surgery), you'll be so glad you can get thru the doorways. They didn't think about access back then. Btw, your old house looked incredible! What a fantastic job you both did!
Ann, totally agree. We now have a wheelchair bound family member and the "normal" width of the doorway is a real problem. Was even thinking of the showers having the step over tile. It would be more convenient to have an area like hospitals do. Like you I'm an older woman and now wish we had thought of all these ideas.
I’d keep the stove but you can get more aesthetically pleasing ones with glass doors, gold handles etc. They’re more efficient than a fireplace, the metal gets hot and gives off heat even hours after the fire has gone out. And if you switched them out you could probably still sell the old one to recoup costs, they retain their value quite well.
I love it Laura. The house is great .......but the garden is the magic for me 🥰 Also, I know that you have a very big family with lots of kids, so your idea for making the loft room secure for Lorenzo also applies to the them. As a Mum, that popped into my head when I saw the space on your tour. it’s a looooooong way down.
LOVE SEEING THINGS AND THOSE TO COME. I LOVE THE IDEA OF GLASS FOR THE LOFT...STAINED GLASS WOULD BE GROOVY. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE MORE! I LOVE THE FREEDOM OF MAKING YOUR DREAM HOME-GOOD FOR YOU TWO! GREAT THINGS ARE PRAYED FOR YOU TWO IN THE NEW YEAR!
Hi Laura, I am so excited for you and Jesse!! You make me think of days gone by when I was young and full of dreams!! I hope everything you dream for your home and life come true !! Xoxo Lori K
The windows outside of little Italy, (on the front of your office to be) are called jalousie windows. The home I grew up in had four of them in the family room, loved them! Thanks for sharing 🙂❤️
For your breezeway area, you could consider a square table. I love them. They don’t use more floor space then a round table and they offer much better conversation around the table unlike rectangle tables where people on either far ends have trouble seeing each other. That doesn’t happen with a square table. PLUS, I know how you love cooking. A square table offers lots of room for all the different plates in the center AND all the plates are within arms reach for the people sitting around. Just a thought. Love the house. Can’t wait to see how you both turn it into your home.
Yep… totally seeing the vision (the inspo photos 🤯)! So exciting! 🤗 Can’t wait to see the bomb shelter bar! May I suggest a critter station just outside of one of your big windows on the main floor? Several feeders of different heights and different seeds and things that will draw all kinds of wildlife right to you? I’ve always dreamed of having something like that where I can sit inside on cold days and just observe all the birds and critters! You have the perfect backyard for it! 🐿🦌🦝🦫🦨💕
Wow! Your house is so beautiful congratulations to the both of you. Now all you need is a million subscribers.👍 thank you for taking us on a tour. Love Little Italy it's going to look so great.
This is a beautiful home. After you decorate and remodel, it will be absolutely stunning. Your style is an inspiration. Can’t wait to follow you on this journey to making this house YOUR HOME.
My two cents about keeping the woodstove. If your power goes out you can heat with it and cook on it. Sometimes it's good to think beyond decor asthestics.
WOW What an amazing house. I am sooo jealous of little Italy. Can't wait to what your alls journey to making your house the home you have dreamed of. The blogs/videos can't come fast enough.
Wow Miss Laura!! What an ambitious reno 😯 It's going to be fabulous when those walls are removed to open up the spaces with the huge windows... and the fireplace! There's nothing more wonderful than a big OPEN fireplace, and you could reconfigure the raw brick perhaps by designing a layer of smooth river rocks over with a gorgeous mantelpiece.(Ala Frank L. Wright? ☺️) Speaking of heating efficiency, I had a great fireplace with a harp-style blower installed... it got too warm sometimes! Not a fan of wood stoves, tho there are many other options you might consider, esp with modern insulation methods to cut the damp ambient cold🌦️ It's a wonderful house, great vibes and sweet, comforting spirits... 🍀🥂🍀
the location the roof terrace and just the whole ambiance of the your new home sold it for me....oh and the laundry chute lol ....its a beautiful house cant wait to see what you do with it....congratulations and may you have many happy years there
You might want to rethink sliding glass doors, depending on stability of your foundation. If you have lots of clay, even the tiniest shift causes the doors to drag and seals to gap. Great house. Love the little Italy terrace.
Congrats!!! Love the house!!! How excited are you!?!? I love all of the nature you can see from within!!! It’s going to be gorgeous when you’re done. My husband and I lived through a remodel.... fun stuff 🤣 but well worth it! The character in that home is phenomenal!! 🍾🍾🍾 have fun with it!!!
Beautiful!! I love you're new home and your plans for the future. And I like the idea of you not knowing about the Bomb Shelter until it's completed. What fun!
I really like your idea of repurposing the powder room to put the fridge recessed will definitely helped. In my 1950s home I can't put up wall cabinets so I might use your idea for plate holders, just wait one season through the winter to get a full feel for the house, you might find some features were set up for weather purposes. I removed one wall just to find out later that was the one keeping the drafts away... but your house looks so well built and looked after, congrats. I have the stained glass in your work area and it is super sturdy.
The terrace and your back yard. Wow, Absolutely lovely! I cannot wait to see the windows in the living room and kitchen, they’re going to be everything! I want my next home to have huge windows so I can enjoy the nature at all times, in the near future I think I’ll be ready to live in the country. Great home!
The house I grew up in was built in 1960 and it had the shutters, the half wall with the planter by the stairway to the basement, and last but not least, the laundry shoot. Every kid that came to the house was fascinated with it and always had to throw something down it! Sweet memories!
Congratulations your house is amazing and know with you talent at decorating it is going to be just stunning!!!! Love Little Italy-- I could spend all day out there girl!!!!! Can’t wait to see your next video on the updates! Thanks for sharing w/ us!!!
Laura, you speak so intelligently on everything you do, and you are so creative with your design, decor and architecture. It is going to be a total blast watching your house become a home for your family. Love your ideas. Thank you so much for sharing. 👍🏼🌺🙏🏽
I love love all your ideas! I would so do the same with the windows to look out to that beautiful view outside. Please don’t stop recording the process. I wanna see it all. 😊
Congratulations 👏👏👏👏 beautiful house and all your plans sound fantastic. I've already your design talents in action and sure it will be magazine worthy. The views are spectacular. I'm so happy for the two of you. Blessings and carry on 👍🥰
What an intriguing home. Must have taken a lot of thought to build. Cannot wait to see what you and your husband do to make it your home. So interesting.
LAURA YOUR HOUSE IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND I CAN JUST SEE HOW BEAUTIFUL IT WILL LOOK AT THE END YOUR HOME WILL BE JUST GORGEOUS AND YOU'LL BE ABLE TO ENTERTAIN YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS 🥰❤🦋🦋🦋🌻🌻🌻🐝
Truly, a dream property and dream home. I know it will be beyond gorgeous when you are done with it!! MCM is my favorite but really, I realized it a bit to late. I’ll just live a little through you! Best wishes and much joy to you, sweet girl.✨ Ps…I ADORE the light wood and Scandinavian plans you have for much of your of your spaces!! Oh my!! Love love love!!😍
I do not often get house envy. I've got it in spades now! What a gorgeous house and property, and I love all your ideas for it. Regarding the vintage wooden bead curtains: if you do not leave them where they are, I think they would look great repurposed as wall art or even wooden wind chimes (wind clickers?) for Little Italy. Round or long table: why not an expandable table that goes from square to oblong? That way you don't limit yourself to 6 or 8 guests, and the table can be out of the way most of the time. Wood stoves: these spots obviously NEED mid-century cone-shaped fireplaces! Whatever you end up doing, I know it will be gorgeous. Can't wait to see it all happen.
Your home screams your style. Beautiful wood tones, lighting to bring nature inside/outside, and the rooftop terrace! Can’t wait to see what you do with it all! Reminds me of a Frank Loyd Wright design! I love our sky windows that are retractable. Hearing and watching the rain splatter upon them is so soothing!
I love the floors downstairs I don’t know why you want to change them unless you’re doing it for a style reason, which of course obviously it’s your choice lol
Grass cloth would look good in your office and the tiny horizontal lines will play off the other lines of the room, plus grass cloth comes in like every color imaginable.
Wow, your new home is beautiful!!!❤ The backyard, the ceilings the trees, "Iittle Italy" breath taking!! And you have a studio space and a bomb shelter!!! Wow, cannot wait to see it furnished with all of your treasures!! Plus the fact that you are close to family is amazing!!! You will never regret that!! We moved back home 13 years ago to be close to our family and it was definitely the right move for us! So happy for the oth of you!!! Dreams really do come true!!!❤❤❤
I am not a fan of mid century modern decor. HOWEVER... I absolutely LOVE your channel. You are wonderful and fun to watch and I've learned so much too. I look forward to many more years of enjoying your videos and I wish you and Jesse many, many years of joy in your fantastic new home.
@@vintagemarylouise7319 I could see one maybe repainted matte grey or black, even tho orange would look good. You could also get a fireplace insert, maybe find some old bricks at Renovations or someplace. There is some really cool Swedish wood stoves out too, they are modern and glass.
We have a wood burning firplace. Its beautiful but takes a ton of wood. You constantly have to feed it. We're retired and have a tree farm so we have a lot of wood at our disposal. There's nothing like a beautiful fire in the fireplace. We have a method of building the perfect fire and its keeps us every warm. I think when you get done with all of your remodeling you are going to have a pricless thing of beauty. I do hope you have double windows, otherwise you are going to be very cold. I had to put visqueen on my windows in one house I lived in. It had wall to wall windows and I live in the south. My electric bill was outrageous. I'm sure you've thought out everything and its all going to be perfect. Enjoy your remodel. I am so very happy for you and your hubby. God bless you both.
Wow this house is amazing even the way it is currently. Absolutely stunning views and setting. It is overwhelmingly huge and I can't believe it is only 2 bedrooms. If looking at this prop and going by bedrooms it is soooo deceiving. Beautiful serene house for a beautiful and serene person! God bless your hone and all who live and enter
The house does have really good bones. Two thoughts - do you really need to replace the main level floors to achieve a lighter look. Consider pickling. You can replace them later if you really need to. 2nd upstairs loft - even the really good skylights tend to have leakage and the wood ceilings could get damaged. Consider light tubes. Easier to put in and may be enough natural light for you. I agree with the comment about leaving the half wall. That space would be a great nursery/children's room and you'll need the security. Good luck - it's going to be great!
What a great house! Lots of projects, but your vision is so incredible. Having huge windows to bring in that view is everything! I adore the wood ceilings that are everywhere, and I'm a sucker for wood beams. I love your house. I'm so happy for you and your husband. And so much room for the kitties! They'll love it. Can't wait to see the progress. Thank you for the tour!
Such a great house with great 'bones'. Can't wait to see the finished changes u are planning. It will be beautiful. You have such skills in visualization and design. You should hire out your services!! Designed and remodeled by Laura Caldwell!! I'm totally impressed with what you've shown us so far. I'm so excited to follow you as u remodel. Thanks for sharing and bringing us along. Many Blessings!
Fireplace suggestion: one of those uber cool 'Rat Pack' era round pedestal fireplaces. That or something similar will simply replace the wood stove--no trying to match brick or having to paint, etc.....and very much in line with your mcm preferences. :)
you're so blessed to be able to do all that in a year. We bought our house 2 years ago and our kitchen remodel that desperately needs to happen probably won't happen for 2-3 more years. We're just happen we got our house right before the pandemic hit can't wait to see your journey
Wow, just wow! Between all of your travel, trade shows, a new home, your business & UA-cam channel, etc. You have been BUSY! I don't know how you do it all! I am so happy that you have found your dream home, & I can see why- it is gorgeous! Like everyone else has said, I am looking forward to seeing the remodel & how you decorate it! Thanks for sharing! xo
I guess I thrive on a full life! 😂 Growing up with 5 siblings we were always headed to someone’s swimming class, someone’s camp, etc. I take my moments to slow down and soak it in but then I’m ready for the next trip/project 😆
@@leftcoastrevivals - I understand completely. I love staying busy, too! My father (who has a gymnasium built in his honor at Barlow H.S. in Gresham:) used to say that "you can be a spectator in someone else's life, or a participant in your own", & I have always chosen being a participant in my own, between raising 3 boys as a single mom, to having my own business, etc. my life has always been full... It is called LIVING, which I am grateful for everyday. I can see that you are as well, which is why I gravitate towards you & your style so much. Take care, can't wait to see more of your house! xo
I LOVE the house, esp being a north westerner!! I kind of like most of the old kitchen esp the wood. The new plan seems too new. But I’m looking forward to seeing how it turns out! It’s an amazing home. I wish I could afford something as cool as this from the sixties. Just smaller. 😁
I love this house and the yard! Everything I like about Portland is embodied here. Portland was a magical place for me in the 60’s. And you are bringing that feeling back to life for me here. I’m getting dejavu!
What fun!!!! You bought a gorgeous home and I cannot wait to see it after you bring your visions to life! I’m so happy you’re keeping the jalousie windows! I LOVED them growing up!
Clothes chutes are so fun; we had one in my childhood home and I remember dropping my clothes down and watching them hit the ping pong table in the basement below. Ah, memories! One of my aunts also had a bomb shelter in her basement and I was always fascinated to go inside it. I'm sure your husband will enjoy creating a cool space inside of yours. Loved your home tour & can't wait to see what you've done so far!
Love love love your new home! Those ceilings and the views are stunning. The rooftop terrace is such a treasure. Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness with family and friends in your new home. Looking forward to videos as work progresses.
Oh what a great place you two bought, it has so much potential and oh, I love the garden. Love to see all the changes you’re gonna make, to make this your home. And it’s gonna be fabulous for sure🥰
What a perfect home for you both! I am excited to watch your renovations, you have so many great ideas. Looking forward to Jessie's plan for the bomb shelter, too! Loved the vision graphics from the 60's...need to keep the boys safe for sure, sounds like Lorenzo is quite a jumper!
The windows in your future studio are called jalousie windows, very popular in Hawaii & are getting very expensive. So glad that you are keeping it.🇺🇸❤️🌵
It’s amazing! Those ceilings are to die for! I can’t wait to see it when you are done! I love the beaded curtains so much. I think a Malm fireplace would look amazing against that brick, but whatever you do I’m sure it will be fantastic!
I am so thrilled for you guys, but I am so excited for me, because I get to go along on your amazing journey and watch this transformation! Such great design ideas. On pins and needles to see everything!
You two are AMAZING! So happy for you both and I’m so excited we get to follow your dream home journey that you both are kind enough to share! YOU GUYS ROCK hands down! 👏❤️🙏

LOL! I just realized you had arranged the pinecones XD Love the bomb shelter idea, cant wait to see this home finished.
Come on guys Laura is so excited about her new home so why put thumbs down ,don’t get it
Your home screams your style.
We put a bunk bed ladder in the laundry chute…great fun for kids!
Awwwwwww. I am so happy for you! It’s got a lot of neat character, but can’t wait to see what you do with it.
Such amazing architecture and cute little surprises everywhere!!!
Wow, wow, wow!!! Love your ideas. Can't wait to see the on going progress, Congratulations. God bless you both.
What about one of the metal tear drop fireplaces.
That would be perfect🧡
@@vintagemarylouise7319 I could see one maybe repainted matte grey or black, even tho orange would look good. You could also get a fireplace insert, maybe find some old bricks at Renovations or someplace. There is some really cool Swedish wood stoves out too, they are modern and glass.
I’m trying!! That’s my #1 option but Jesse is pretty opposed to it.. 😏
@@leftcoastrevivals look up Audro Wood Stoves
Congratulations! I can't wait to watch how you and Jesse are going to make it your home.
How exciting! Such a beautiful house and property. So much space for entertaining.
A sprawling mid-century estate! It will be dreamy Laura! I can’t image anyone more deserving thank you and your crew!
🥰 Thank you!
Seriously a DREAM home. Can't wait to see the progress!
Wow Laura, this home is already stunning. Can't wait to see what you do!
LOVEIT... Please don't stop documenting your progress.
Looking forward to seeing you work your magic in your New Home.
Cannot wait to see all the changes to your dream home!!!
The accordion door is a classic. 😉
Yes! And, it's wood!
Hoping they either find another space where it will be useful or sell it to someone who needs it.
Anything we don’t keep we’ll donate to habitat for Humanity 😄
Fireplace suggestion: one of those uber cool 'Rat Pack' era round pedestal fireplaces. That or something similar will simply replace the wood stove--no trying to match brick or having to paint, etc.....and very much in line with your mcm preferences. :)
So glad you have such a vision. Can hardly wait to see what you can do with it.
Also love the thrifting videos .
Watching these videos as you make this house your dream home will be soooo much fun!
So excited for you! This house will turn into a home in no time!
you're so blessed to be able to do all that in a year. We bought our house 2 years ago and our kitchen remodel that desperately needs to happen probably won't happen for 2-3 more years. We're just happen we got our house right before the pandemic hit
can't wait to see your journey
Take care, can't wait to see more of your house! xo
Great place. Congrats to you both. Can't wait for all your visions to come together.
I’m getting dejavu!
your home is beautiful and I'm so excited to go thru the remodel with you. You always inspire me.
Love everything!! @Laura Caldwell I think you need a simple but pretty door for your pantry! So inspiring!! :)
This is super exciting, can't wait to see the transformations! Congrats!!
Aww I love the memories! I was always jealous of cousins and friends who had them growing up. I lived in a one level so there was no need for one 😂
Fantastic house and fantastic ideas! Can't wait to see it unfold!
Oh Laura! It's like this house was built just for YOU! Absolutely gorgeous and I'm SO excited for you guys! ❤
I agree!
What a wonderful property! Love all the trees!!
Love love love your new home! Those ceilings and the views are stunning. The rooftop terrace is such a treasure. Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness with family and friends in your new home. Looking forward to videos as work progresses.
Ooooooooooooh! Marvellous paradise! Lots of coming projects 😍
Love from Spain 💃
So glad that you are keeping it.🇺🇸❤️🌵
Wow, what gem of a house. You struck gold for sure. The beauty from within you will shine for sure. Wish you the best with remodels adventures.
It’s amazing! Those ceilings are to die for! I can’t wait to see it when you are done! I love the beaded curtains so much. I think a Malm fireplace would look amazing against that brick, but whatever you do I’m sure it will be fantastic!
My favorite fireplace!! I really want but Jesse doesn’t… 😏 Wish me luck on this one 😉
I am so thrilled for you guys, but I am so excited for me, because I get to go along on your amazing journey and watch this transformation! Such great design ideas. On pins and needles to see everything!
Loved it from the doorbells and the chutes!
Cool mcm burnt orange 60s free standing porcelain stove
You two are AMAZING! So happy for you both and I’m so excited we get to follow your dream home journey that you both are kind enough to share! YOU GUYS ROCK hands down! 👏❤️🙏
Soooo happy for you and Jessie!! I can hear the excitement and happiness in your voice Laura! Your new home is absolutely beautiful can’t wait to see everything that you create!!! Thanks for the awesome video❤️
