I think this game's difficulty is due to it trying to be almost like a survival horror game in the superhero setting. You literally play so your character could survive, and there are many locations in the game that are very horror-like, music and what not.
There was only one or two sections that felt were somewhat horror in the game … The game was not horror at all. The first “horror” section was in the genetics area in the beginning when you fight those creepy ass monsters but you can’t do stealth. The second probably the one with the soldiers where you can’t let them see you otherwise game over. That’s it.
not at all, the game obviously was trying to be your typical stealth/action game in a superhero setting and while the game had "scary moments" that was never the point of it, in fact i dont think they are really that scary at all, i feel these moments are more there for tension and atmosphere rather then straight up horror.
This game was infamous and despicable back in the day, but i did quite enjoyed it for the refreshing comic accurate setting, the creepy atmosphere and the marvelous soundtrack. I was waiting for so long this video and it didnt disappoint, awesome content. Greetings from Italy!

Such an underrated game. I love the atmosphere and the visual style. Those Wendigo and Weapon X stages have stuck with me to this day. Always found the combat mechanics intriguing, especially the stealth and strike. Glad it's been getting more attention recently.

Always Nerdy, I am deeply in love with your videos. I have too many things to praise about your art but I'll try to mention every single one of them. Firstly, it is structure. All of your videos have clear and easily understood narrative line that makes information consumption more natural. In here I am talking about your way of dividing video in parts, like: story, gameplay, soundtrack and etc. I am already happy that I have learned English that now I have a possibility to understand you. Secondly, it is the depth of your videos shown in the way you describe every character, easter egg, location, lines. I am glad to see how you pay a lot of attention to voice actors and how they accomplish the task they have. Thirdly, it is your sense of humour that turns stupid and comedic situation into fun because sometimes because of the difference between our cultures I don't really get the joke. I hope you work in a big team helping you during production and editing because the amount of the work you've done is enormous. I would be happy to pay to see your videos in cinemas or professional channels. For the sake of nerdism, don't ever quit making videos! I would really like if you left the link to comic books you are showing in your videos. All of them look great and I want to read them to have a better understanding of the characters and time you are talking about.
One of my fave marvel games, and X-men games of all time. And the fact that it was connected to the PS1 spider-man games was a bonus. A genuine wolverine game for x-men fans aside from legends 1&2 and Origins. And as someone who grew up on the Larry Hama /Marc Silvestri run particularly issues 43-64 Contained in Wolverine essentials vol3, this game is special for how much they pulled from those storylines aside from weapon x, along with some of the Morrison era of x-men and all things prior. People often forget how horrific wolverine’s history and stories are when in relation to the weapon x, plus and all extensions of said programs and beyond, which I felt the game captured that tone, music/score and atmosphere perfectly well. Also, it’s dope that Patrick Stewart was in every ps2 X-men game from x-men: next dimension, x2-wolverines revenge, and X-men legends 1 &2. That was always cool that he participated in that. In addition, I always considered this game as a lead into X-Men legends 1 & 2 since Apocalypse shows up as a cameo along with omega red at the end of this game and XL1 which led to Legends 2, and how Sabertooth would become one of the mutants that he's kidnap.
Keep up the spectacular work as always dude is your next video related to your Spider-Man symbiote saga of the games like is Ultimate Spider-Man the video game next
Thank you! Yes and no. So next up is the 4 part Guardians of the Galaxy series that I'm working on. Those will release sometime closer to November (ideally). However, I'm also working on Ultimate Spider-Man right now, in hopes I can release it in December. So it's not the next game I'm doing, but it is in my immediate plans.
A bit late to the party but I'm glad i spared a few hours to finish this video in one sitting. This brought back quite a few memories. I remember recommending this game a year ago and you did stay true to your word. Currently one of my favourite channels on YT. Keep doing what you do, you're making large amounts of people happy and bringing back many memories!
hot damn the animators that worked on this game are amazing the lip sync looks damn good compared to other games of the time i can remember spidey is so goofy in the way he is animated i love him lol i remember the stories of "if you do a certain action or a cheatcode you could play as spider-man" i totally did not try to play as spidey back then i was not that gullible (i was)
its about time more people appreciate this games OST, remember as a kid playing this game and hearing sabretooths boss theme in act 1 and it was immediately stuck in my head along with juggernaut's and the main menu theme.
I love watching your videos about comic book hero video games because not only do you show the whole game but you go and point out where each reference and easter egg is from which I appreciate so much, I like knowing where things are from when I play these games and its nice to see how much detail some of these games have
Yeah it's definitely been long overdue, so I'm glad to finally have it out. Now It's time to jump into the other games I'm behind on like Ultimate Spider-Man lol
My sister bought this game for my birthday when I was a kid because I'm a big wolverine fan. I've spent countless hours playing the game but never finished it because of how hard and sometimes obtuse it was. Currently i have it on the original Xbox and this time I'm finishing it. Thank you for this nostalgia trip
I actually played this game recently. Too bad the Gamecube I played on didn't come with any memory cards. But the first level theme left an impact. Plus, I played it because of the Deadpool and Wolverine hype.
SUPER hype for the new video, always a good time when you drop. Was just rewatching the x-men legends videos, can’t help but go back to a lot of videos on this channel just to rewatch. Still waiting on the day the webs of shadows video drops, that I am dying to see🙏🏽 Keep up the good work!

@@alwaysnerdyretros Ohhhhhh dude that video is gonna be killer. Can’t wait to see it. Such a great line up of video games you’ve been picking recently.
@@alwaysnerdyretros Dude…what a game. Played it as a kid when it came out and it’s easily one of my favorite spiderman experiences of all time. I’m excited to see what you think of it.
It’s definitely a nostalgic game lol. The story was actually pretty interesting and it kept me going through to find out what happened next. I still play it now and then, but if I wasn’t a kid when I played it I don’t think I would have a soft spot for it.
I played this recently it was super fun, and it wasn't that hard once you figured out the hidden combat stuff in manuel and realized that sometimes you don't want to use claws, other than that, the stealth being mostly optional but SUCH a safer and smarter option was a nice touch, the feral senses and only healing with sheathed claws were cool additions and just made the game fun, I was constantly saying "I hope this, is in the new wolverine game" overall good game in my opinion doing some interesting stuff...really makes you feel like wolverine
Oh nice! I think you had a slightly better experience than I did with X2 lol. But I agree that there are elements I'd like to see utilized in Insomniacs Wolverine. Namely the stealth and control over his senses and claws
@alwaysnerdyretros understandable, I'm gonna watch the rest of your video later and see what you think but if you haven't five the Manuel a read and play again trying out the moves in there there's a lot of stuff the game doesn't tell you like the jump attack for magneto and stuff, and those kill animations are sick and do more damage depending on what level you use so your encouraged to group enemies and use the higher level ones
@@DanTheMan-ts8xj oh definitely, the manual was pretty much a necessity. I bought the strategy guide too just to cover all bases. Although I tried not to read it unless I was really having issues with a level
I've enjoyed a lot of your videos as you cover a lot of games that I played the hell out of as a kid. This one being a great example of that. This video and the PS1 Spiderman video have been my favorites so far. Hope to see various others in the future such as Enter Electro or the Hulk games of the PS2 generation. 😊
Just wanna say, keep doing the amazing work you are doing. I was introduced to your channel through your UMA I retrospective and quickly became a fan. I just finished binging all your retrospectives and can’t wait for the GOTG 4 hour special ❤ Also since the game is no longer available for purchase, it would be cool if you did a retrospective on the avengers game or the Deadpool game as the movie came out this year
I love this game so much I recently did a speed run and I just remembered why I love it the music the stages the bosses the costumes. And the CHEATS it's so fun to be an unstoppable force and really feel the combat of this game with out pressure I spent HOURS as a kid teen and adult just coming back to it. Recently added custom textures to this game too I gotta say it's just one of those games that I know is flawed but it's unique in gameplay and soundtrack that I can't stop coming back to it .
I honestly may like this game more than Origins for a number of reasons. Interesting Wolverine managed to give us two solid movie games that don't get talked about at all. Was gonna ask you to cover Spider-Man 3, but looks like you got to it already!
oh shock has it been 2 months already well Nerd(don’t mean it in a disrespectful or sarcastic way) thanks for the new video to enjoy and will see you in the next 2 months good sir
Haha no worries I'm very aware of the long release gaps. I'm still trying to figure a good way to minimize that without rushing something out. My goal is to have a quicker release cadence this winter though
I had this on GameCube. The book from this game was how I first found out about Wolverines real name (James Howlett) my only disappointment back then was that there was a button that let you retract the claws, but you did the same damage either way
Fantastic video as usual! This game looks like something I'd play as a kid but never get passed level 3 lmao. Especially dumb kid me kept deleting data from my memory card because I didn't understand it.
Sabertooth's voice intimidated me as a kid. Now, I think it is funny when he tries to do a big cat growl when he talks. I don't know why. It is funny to me. I keep imagining that is what he sounds like when he clears his throat.
This was an amazing retrospective. As a side comment, you can actually see the lightning bolts during the Deathstrike fight in the Gamecube version. For some reason, they weren't present during other versions.
Thank you for watching! As far as the date, Marvel's website lists it as 1988, but I didn't dig much deeper beyond that so it could be a couple years off.
1:26:46 My assumption based on this is that originally as the pilot her and Wolverine would have fought together during that level taking enemies out until progressing. So that dialogue of her fighting alongside wolverine could have been during that level while her boss was later. OR maybe she has a fight with Logan, but then ends up assisting him before the fight with magneto to take out the bigger threat. Only to still betray us to deathstrike after feigning an alliance.
That’s possible and I’m not entirely sure myself. It’s intriguing nonetheless and might have helped make her betrayal more striking to the player. As it stands we’re expecting the betrayal the moment she shows up

Thank you so much!
I had never even heard of this game before this video came out, and yet I still watched the entire thing. You make some baller ass videos my guy
Keep doing what you do, you're making large amounts of people happy and bringing back many memories!
hot damn the animators that worked on this game are amazing the lip sync looks damn good compared to other games of the time i can remember
spidey is so goofy in the way he is animated i love him lol
i remember the stories of "if you do a certain action or a cheatcode you could play as spider-man" i totally did not try to play as spidey back then i was not that gullible
(i was)
It’s ok, I fell for the “if you 100% Spider-Man 2 ps2 you can play as Venom” 😔
its about time more people appreciate this games OST, remember as a kid playing this game and hearing sabretooths boss theme in act 1 and it was immediately stuck in my head along with juggernaut's and the main menu theme.
I thought we had at least another 3 months to explect an upload. This just made my month
I hope I don’t have to go that long again without an upload again. When we eventually get to Spider-Man 2 though, that might be legit lol
@@alwaysnerdyretros Regardless, the work is amazing. If it takes a year we'll be here waiting and ready. thank you for the amazing content!
I love watching your videos about comic book hero video games because not only do you show the whole game but you go and point out where each reference and easter egg is from which I appreciate so much, I like knowing where things are from when I play these games and its nice to see how much detail some of these games have
Your channel is a gem
Thank you so much!!!
Another great video! I know it’s not a comic book video game, but I’d love to see you do a video on true crime streets of LA
Oh I’m not too familiar with that one. I’ll have to look into that it more! Thanks for the suggestion!
I was waiting for this video for a long time.
Yeah it's definitely been long overdue, so I'm glad to finally have it out. Now It's time to jump into the other games I'm behind on like Ultimate Spider-Man lol
me too!
Been watching bro for 3 years. Cannot believe the consistency and quality of this man's content
The legend has Returned!!
One of my childhood favorites!
Thank you to the Algorithm for bringing me this channel. Great vid!
Thank you so much!!!
I actually played this game recently. Too bad the Gamecube I played on didn't come with any memory cards. But the first level theme left an impact. Plus, I played it because of the Deadpool and Wolverine hype.
I'm not kidding when I say I've been waiting for this
SUPER hype for the new video, always a good time when you drop. Was just rewatching the x-men legends videos, can’t help but go back to a lot of videos on this channel just to rewatch. Still waiting on the day the webs of shadows video drops, that I am dying to see🙏🏽 Keep up the good work!
Thank you, it’s awesome to hear you’re enjoying the channel. I very much plan on doing web of shadows too! I’m hoping maybe early 2025 sometime. I want to do ultimate Spider-Man first which I’m trying to get ready for release by the end of this year
@@alwaysnerdyretros Ohhhhhh dude that video is gonna be killer. Can’t wait to see it. Such a great line up of video games you’ve been picking recently.
@@Logan_Hix03 thank you! I’m excited about them and I’m especially eager to play web of shadows. This’ll actually be my first time playing it
@@alwaysnerdyretros Dude…what a game.
The gaming retrospective goat is back!
The way you make videos is like art I love watching these
Thanks to this vid Im going to start reading comics again! Just bought Weapon X deluxe edition😁.
Oh sweet! I think you’ll enjoy it!
This game was my childhood. Thank you for making this!1
Sabretooth: Let my people go!
Moses: Let my people go!
Sorry i notice that in the dialogue.
You would think a stealth Wolverine game shouldn’t work but this is something special. I hope Insomniac adds some stealth to their game as well.
Awesome channel , great videos. Hope the channel blows up
Don’t take this the wrong way but your videos are perfect for when I’m going to bed and trying to fall asleep
54:00 it's funny to hear Colossus's voice slip into Scottish for a second 😂
Welcome back King 👑
I was always disappointed there wasn't a sequel to this game.
Just wanna say, keep doing the amazing work you are doing. I was introduced to your channel through your UMA I retrospective and quickly became a fan. I just finished binging all your retrospectives and can’t wait for the GOTG 4 hour special ❤
Also since the game is no longer available for purchase, it would be cool if you did a retrospective on the avengers game or the Deadpool game as the movie came out this year
I love this game so much I recently did a speed run and I just remembered why I love it the music the stages the bosses the costumes.
The book from this game was how I first found out about Wolverines real name (James Howlett) my only disappointment back then was that there was a button that let you retract the claws, but you did the same damage either way
@12:00 this right here is what made me never touch this game again as a kid. I remember renting it from blockbuster 💀
Little note missed a great opportunity to include Linkara's signature "I AM A MAN" line in here.
Fantastic video as usual! This game looks like something I'd play as a kid but never get passed level 3 lmao. Especially dumb kid me kept deleting data from my memory card because I didn't understand it.
Oh no not deleting the data!!! I hope you didn’t lose any major progress 😱
Let's go!! Love your videos!!
Great video id love to see mark hamill voice wolverine again
having a Gothic mansion as your office space is badass as hell
I love the characters models and facial expressions. Spidermans manerisms had me cracking up.
You just made the best video covering this game!
Got this for my birthday and this game was amazing. Loved the stealth attacks and this game was hard asl lowkey. Bosses were cool too
Always excited for your videos :D
Thank you for checking them out!!!
@@alwaysnerdyretros I've watched all your restrospectives ^^ You and Josh Strife Plays are my go to for these
@@Blobby90 that’s awesome to hear!!! I appreciate you taking the time to tell me :)
Sabertooth's voice intimidated me as a kid. Now, I think it is funny when he tries to do a big cat growl when he talks. I don't know why. It is funny to me. I keep imagining that is what he sounds like when he clears his throat.
22:30 I wonder if in the Wolverine movie silver samurai was given a exosuit based on the shiva character
This was an amazing retrospective. As a side comment, you can actually see the lightning bolts during the Deathstrike fight in the Gamecube version. For some reason, they weren't present during other versions.
5:10 I do believe the Weapon X story came out in 1991. Thank you for this long video you really did the game justice.
Thank you for watching! As far as the date, Marvel's website lists it as 1988, but I didn't dig much deeper beyond that so it could be a couple years off.
I still play this game on my PS2, and it still holds up to me. Plus I liked Mark Hamill's voice for Wolverine.
I imagine the unusrd Professor X lines about your performance were meant to be used during the checkpoints. Sort of a ranking/hint system, perhaps?
1:26:46 My assumption based on this is that originally as the pilot her and Wolverine would have fought together during that level taking enemies out until progressing.
So that dialogue of her fighting alongside wolverine could have been during that level while her boss was later.
OR maybe she has a fight with Logan, but then ends up assisting him before the fight with magneto to take out the bigger threat. Only to still betray us to deathstrike after feigning an alliance.
That’s possible and I’m not entirely sure myself. It’s intriguing nonetheless and might have helped make her betrayal more striking to the player. As it stands we’re expecting the betrayal the moment she shows up
I wish there was a cheat code to make you heal faster or become invincible to feel more like wolverine.
Thank you, gonna watch this at least a several times
Hahaha I appreciate the support!
