Blade being unlockable gives me serious nostalgia vibe for the Raimi Spiderman tie in for the first movie. Beating hardest difficulty unlocked Harry Osborne as the Green Goblin, complete with voiceover and new special abilities and all. None of the cutscenes worked and all, but it's great that they did that, even so much as recontextualizing the story a little bit for Harry.

I love these sorts of action games a lot so these kinds of options do a lot for me.

Fred tatasciore also voiced blade in this game as well , and ghost rider himself as well first in hulk and the agents of S.M.A.S.H. , and in marvel vs capcom infinite
In the opening sequence the one who made a deal with johnny was mephisto. In the movie it was just the devil. I love little tweaks like that to make it more comic accurate. I also love how darkheart transformed into a more comic accurate vsrsion

@@alwaysnerdyretros nah, it’s criticism and what you’re saying are actual facts. Like I love Imperfects but it’s definitely a clunky game lmao. Plus when you’re being honest you can talk about more as well. You’re doing great, man.
Does anyone see the striking resemblance between this games style and Devil May cry games? The blocked paths? The heightened combo meter? The scene transition when you go from room to room?
I remember playing more of the Gameboy Advanced game because that's what I had access to as a smol boi. Overall the game was pretty simplistic; a side-scrolling adventure with platforming and demon killing while combining punches and chain attacks, sprinkled with levels on the Hell Cycle in a similar fashion to what the console game entails. The one major difference I remember is that the cutscenes seemed to have a lot more explanation in them and that the main boss fight wasn't actually Blackheart but the real Mephisto. He morphs into a giant demon head that breathes fire and smashes his fists on you but that's ALL you see of him, hinting that either Mephisto is living shadow or is so big that that's all that can be made out from his grand size. I would have personally preferred Mephisto being the final boss in this game as well but seeing comic-accurate Blackheart isn't so bad either.
Nic Cage is actually a bit of comics nerd. His actual name Nicolas Kim Coppola, and he's the paternal nephew of Francis Ford Coppola. He came up with calling himself Cage after both the composer John Cage and Luke Cage, and he did this avoid the appearance of (literal) nepotism.
Great review. Fair, complete, informative, and constructive for devs who want to touch the material here. Man are you gonna be happy as SHIT when you play Shattered Dimensions. I know people think Spiderman PS4 is the best Spiderman game out there, but at least before that, Shattered Dimensions takes the cake. Use of source material, aesthetics, gameplay, uniqueness, audio/visual quality, and the story are all top notch
Thank you 😃 You aren’t kidding about Shattered Dimensions! This is my first time playing it and I’m blown away! I’m so mad at myself for missing out on this. It’s so good! I think Spiderman PS4 took some of its gameplay as inspiration too, since some of it feels familiar to that game for me
@@alwaysnerdyretros Ye fr. I played the shit out of that game on the Wii when I was a kid, and every single level was amazing. I also think that the new SM game took some feeling from this game, because it really captures the feeling of moving around as Spiderman
I’ve seen the film some years ago and do remember it being a mix of good and bad, yet the guy at 8:24 is meant to be Mephisto? The father of Nightcrawler? The guy who teleports people and drops them from somewhere high for a living?! The guy is mephisto?! Now to find the movie and rewatch it since my opinion has been corrupted over the years by how some people seem to hate the Cage transformation, but I do remember him being a total badass in the films. How come Ghost Rider hasn’t had a solo game in so long? Is because that being a guy who literally dealt with the devil, they deem it impossible to make a game for? I will edit this comment after finishing watching the video Edit: The game is badass and deserves a remake with the features of the PSP port! Who knew marvel also had their own Scarecrow? I like the game design better than the comic one. Though I do feel that the Scarecrow of DC found this guy and tried to copy this scarecrow’s fear-like design since he got jealous. Plus am I the only one who thinks that Scarecrow in the game acts similarly to Joker?
@@joshuaward3646 aw crap! Thnx for the fix! I didn’t realise the error until now! 😅😅😅 I don’t think I knew Nightcrawler’s father’s name as the only thing I knew about him was what I said then. And that was from a clip from X-men first class, plus after looking at Azazel I am surprised at how similar Mephisto and Azazel look, though only difference is one has a tail and one doesn’t (plus the whole teleport thing which is also not at the same time if memory is correct. I think Kurt’s teleportation has him travel to his kind’s home and then pop up at another place. Pls correct if wrong again as there is a lot of things in marvel I don’t know while it’s ironic that I’m a fan of marvel and there’s things I don’t know yet. I think, if you don't have it planed already, you should do the Fantastic Four movie game for PS2/Xbox. There's like no videos on UA-cam really talking about that game. Anyways, love your stuff.
Thank you! That’s a great suggestion! I own that game and it’d be a fun one to revisit. Especially if it hasn’t really been discussed much before on UA-cam
Fred tatasciore also voiced blade in this game as well , and ghost rider himself as well first in hulk and the agents of S.M.A.S.H. , and in marvel vs capcom infinite
Been binging your channel and was literally just thinking about this game and then you post this. Crazy perfect timing 😂
Haha we’re synced 👀😆
yo loving these marvel game retrospectives keep em coming my guy!!!!!!!
Thank you and will do!
This game looks likes if God of War 2 and Devil May Cry had a secret love child
In the opening sequence the one who made a deal with johnny was mephisto. In the movie it was just the devil. I love little tweaks like that to make it more comic accurate. I also love how darkheart transformed into a more comic accurate vsrsion
Dude, I love this fucking channel. Games like this, Rise Of The Imperfects, the PS2 Spider-Man games, X-Men Origins, etc. All these are staples of my childhood and i love seeing someone talk about them. In full honesty too which I respect, it helps get rid of the rose tinted glasses lmao.
Thank you!!! I really appreciate you saying that. I’m glad you don’t feel I’m being too hard on them either. I was a bit nervous about that honestly, especially with this game
@@alwaysnerdyretros nah, it’s criticism and what you’re saying are actual facts. Like I love Imperfects but it’s definitely a clunky game lmao. Plus when you’re being honest you can talk about more as well. You’re doing great, man.
@@neverminddontwannaknow4926 Thank you! I really appreciate the feedback. That’s actually very helpful
The voice actor of Scarecrow in this game also played Kakashi from Naruto, which is funny because Kakashi means Scarecrow in Japanese.
I used to rent this game from blockbuster every weekend! I should try to buy a copy
I really want the EnnisCut now this was my childhood game but now I’d want an M rated ghost rider game. Release the Ennis Cut!!!!!!
Man you were going so good, we need a part 2!(Of Streets Of The City of course)
I can’t believe I watch like 3 hour plus long videos about PS2 games….. In 1 day….
Give Ghost Rider to Capcom and I bet you'll have a classic game
Loving these retrospectives man
Thank you!

My immediate first thought.
Does anyone see the striking resemblance between this games style and Devil May cry games? The blocked paths? The heightened combo meter? The scene transition when you go from room to room?
Nope. Congratulations on being the first in history to make this stunning revelation
Thanks for putting some respect on a game I cherished very much as a young lad 💓🙏💓
X-Men: The Official Game (2006) is definitely worth one of these reviews! Such a fun game.
Didn't know Sam Barlow was the lead for this. Damn.
I didn't know that ppl knows about this game 😂 u are a legend 💪
It’s like Ride to Hell: Retribution but good
I remember playing more of the Gameboy Advanced game because that's what I had access to as a smol boi.
I had this on PSP. One of the best games I played on there.
This was on psp?
@@rmbwemanplays5567 yes
@@dericjames2018 thanks for the response

Thank you 😃
You aren’t kidding about Shattered Dimensions! This is my first time playing it and I’m blown away! I’m so mad at myself for missing out on this. It’s so good! I think Spiderman PS4 took some of its gameplay as inspiration too, since some of it feels familiar to that game for me
@@alwaysnerdyretros
Ye fr. I played the shit out of that game on the Wii when I was a kid, and every single level was amazing. I also think that the new SM game took some feeling from this game, because it really captures the feeling of moving around as Spiderman
@@Jonathan-A.C. Yeah I definitely see what you’re saying. I’ve been loving my time with it so far!
I will edit this comment after finishing watching the video
Edit: The game is badass and deserves a remake with the features of the PSP port!
Azazel is Nightcrawler’s father, not Mephisto.
@@joshuaward3646 aw crap! Thnx for the fix! I didn’t realise the error until now! 😅😅😅
I don’t think I knew Nightcrawler’s father’s name as the only thing I knew about him was what I said then. At least Marvel’s multiverse is easier to understand than DC’s… well for me anyway as Marvel’s is more “sorted and organised”). Since when did marvel have their own Scarecrow?!!! Actually who done scarecrow first: Marvel or DC? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
We’ll never know until Deadpool decides to spill the beans since that’s what he does best
Deadpool: Hey!!!
I remember the action figure of the scarecrow based on this design
U can taunt to raise the combo meter to reach the vengeance rank faster, it makes enemies run at you when you do it but it’s worth it
I miss these kinda mid budget, DMC GoW hack and slash games. They hit me right in the nostalgia in the best way.
Fun Fact: Wolverine was gonna be in this game and was mostly done but they scrapped him a few months before release.
wolverine couldn't be in it since this is an movie tie in game in sony universe while wolverine is from fox marvel universe. so i don't see how that's an "fact"
The voice for Mephisto sounds more like the movie black heart than Mephisto
Edit: I guess if blackheart is posing as Mephisto that makes sense
One of my core childhood games and i absolutely adore this game, flaws and all.
Love these vids
Thank you 😃
I have waited so long for this game to get the recognition it deserved. Not the greatest game in the world but for me it ate up my childhood when I first bought the PS2 and this game alongside it. I have been enjoying these retrospectives and have obviously subbed for more.
I have one request, can you take a look at the Captain America game?
I had the scarecrow action figure as a kid!!
I think this is one of the first games I ever actually beat as a kid. And I even went back through with all the cheats on just to see how fast I could do it. And if I remember right, the night I finally beat it, I immediately started again and beat it that same night. Which was wild to me, bc I had been playing for what I remember being weeks. I would have been 7 when this came out, so I could be misremembering though lol.
Mr Nerdy, can you please think about making a Wolverine's Revenge retrospective review? I really wanna hear YOUR coverage of that game!
This Game actually looks pretty damn Awesome and I would play it if it gets a remastered version like The Punisher Video Game you reviewed and I have played it but I never got to to finish it so this game becomes playable again I would definitely pick up my controller and play as The Spirit of Vengeance!
Ahhh! I adored this game as a kid!
Dave Wittenberg's best known for Kakashi in Naruto, but by far my favorite performance of his was Leon in Castlevania Lament of Innocence. It's so goddamn good
