You should check out a 90s cult comedy called FREAKED! It has Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, of Bill and Ted fame. And it's a movie that Fox was so weirded out and ashamed of, it's not even available on print anymore. But you can watch it for FREE here on youtube!

Raiden literally turns into Ray Park during the Reptile fight. They don't even try to hide his face.
Looking it up, he apparently played Baraka, too.
@@Sea-Salt Hmm, according to IMDB, he also played one of the raptors/Reptile ninjas. Not too sure about that one, since Raiden appears on-screen with all of them.
Actually, cancel that. I just re-watched the scene, and even though 3 reptiles initially show up, Raiden only fights 2 of them for some reason, so Ray Park could've been the third one.
None one of his finest credits but always good to hear his name

As a Sindel main in my childhood years playing MK, all I have to say about Sindel’s portrayal in Annihilation is...freaking thumbs up. Give me that ironically iconic performance, queen.

For all the new people, Rayden and Sonya's actors were busy with other projects (at least presumably in Lambert's case, why her didn't return has never been fully explained), but Johnny Cage's actor Linden Ashbey, actually did read the script and passed on returning. And if you look it up, his comments on the script and the recasting are about as Johnny Cage like as you can get. At least all three came back for MK11.

4:00 Shao Khan looked more like "Masters Of The Universe" Skeletor in the end of the first movie. This Shao Khan looks more like a Party City version.

Our local video store gave us this vhs because my brother and me rented it for 25 Fridays in a row.
One thing I do love about this movie is the guy they got to be Shao Khan is known for his over-the-top hammy villains. He’s a character actor, never a leading man, but he’s GOOD at being a complete ham. I’ve seen him in the Pilot episode of Buffy and the first Joe Dirt movie.
God I love this movie. Are we not gonna talk about Jade's epic villain transformation? Eyebrows go from normal to \ /. Angry eyebrows for the win.

I love how people in the movie are just constantly flipping everywhere... they could be moving 7 feet to the left and they'll just randomly do a flip on the way there
And each flip takes like 6 jump cuts to show it

To add onto the hilarity of the Baraka scene : if you slow it down when he supposedly falls into the fire pit, you can see that they just reused the clip of when Rain was knocked into it instead of filming a new scene.

One of my friends saw this in a theater with his brother. They begged their dad to take them to see it. They apologized to him right after.

@@simbabear Oh yes it is. The first was great and still (mostly) holds up today. The second is so bad that one of the "special features" on the DVD is the ability to skip straight to the fight scenes - the people who made it knew it was so bad that people would want to skip most of the movie.

I noticed Sub-Zero's mask is a part of his hood like in the new movie when he takes it off during the Scorpion fight. So that's TWO things Mortal Kombat 2021 took from Annihilation. The dragon mark on people, and the mask being attached to the hood.

One of my biggest gripes about the film was Shao Kahn’s helmet. Such an iconic piece of the character’s costume and it’s literally a bowel with rubber flaps on the back and a do-da pasted on for the film.
And it looks too big for him, like why would you do that?
Plus he wears it for like a minute before discarding it for the rest of the movie. It's that movie BS trend of "Oh, we can't have the actor's face covered for too long!" that still manages to persist (looking at you, Marvel movies where the mask gets torn off during the final battle).

I remember me and my uncle was so hyped to watch this when I was a kid. We both left the cinema disappointed. Even as a kid I was like, "but the first movie was good."
There are 2 types of people... 1. You love Annihilation for how bad it is or 2. You hate Annihilation for being a disgrace from the 95 movie
I'm both of those ppl lol I saw MKA in theater as well as the 95 Original. Soon as I saw the recasts as a youth, I knew we were in trouble but in my older age, it's a great popcorn flick to watch right after watching the OG film.
I loved it when I was 13, but then I saw it again at 15 years later, it felt like I was watching a comedy.
Fun fact: Tony Jaa (from Ong Bak) was Robin Shou's stunt double in this film.
The pure joy and excitement you had explaining this movie was terrific. Your reactions to the costumes and some of the bad lines in particular were hilarious. I hope that you can find other "so bad they're good movies" to enjoy and recap like this one.
Fun fact: The actor that plays Motaro is the same guy that plays the warrior character in the DragonStrike board game VHS tape.

Jax's cybernetic arms are seen as a crutch in the movie because he's relying on a crutch to win his fights. If you remove Jax's cybernetics from his body, he's defenseless because you removed his entire fighting capabilities. Compare that with Liu Kang's animality, where even if you remove that abilitiy, he is still able to fight because of his martial arts
The best part of this movie was the guy playing Shao Khan trying really hard not to laugh through most of his scenes.
Oddly enough, Brian Thompson usually plays evil and brooding characters so you'd think it'd work. Somehow it didn't. He also seems kind of...small...I dunno...
Not even close to Hiroyuki Tagawa's Shang Tsung, that's for sure.

So, a girl I knew loved the first Mortal Kombat movie and so did I, this movie came out and we went on a first date to see it. Almost 24 years later, and I am still with her. So, while we both absolutely hated the movie, at least something worthwhile came out of it.
