I had the good fortune of having read the book first, so I wasn't as scared in general. However, the movie ending is vastly different than the book. So when Sam Neil, Laura Dern and the kids are cornered by the raptors, and my wife whispered to me, "how do they get out of this?" I was forced to say, "I have no idea, this part wasn't in the book."

The thing I remember most about Jurassic Park was just how long it was in the theaters. It stayed in the theaters for a year. A whole year. And I didn't live in a little podunk town in 1993/94. It was in the main, big theater for a year.

@Edward Lee Miller To be fair, at the time there were only a couple dozen new movies coming out every year, pre-pandemic there were that many new movies coming out in a month. That's largely why Blockbuster was able to get away with having an entire wall with 400 copies of a New Release movie. If they'd survived to modern times, they would have had to reduce their New Releases to a single shelf of 30 copies just to fit all of the new movies.

Think about Spielberg's start to the 90's....
Hook - hokey but fun kids film
Jurassic Park - powerhouse of special effects & storytelling
Schindler's List - pure, perfect storytelling, his magnum opus
That's a hell of a way to kick off a decade.

When I was growing up I had a fascination of dinosaurs, and to see this movie was something special. I was pretty much like you. Not as nerdy but I was amazed, astonished and I loved it.

I was 12 when this PG-13 movie came out, so my mom refused to let me see the movie in theatres. (That, and the movie TERRIFIED her when she saw it.) So I had to wait until it came out on VHS, but the moment we got that VHS home, I watched that movie all by myself and loved it! We even bought the Making of Jurassic Park book, which helped launch my forever love for behind-the-scenes movie magic, and that book still has a prominent place on my bookshelf.
The t-rex paddock attack scene is easily the most intense scene in the whole movie for me. It’s weird, because as a kid I thrilled at how scary it would be to be in that situation the kids found themselves in, but now that I’m a parent, that scene is actually harder to watch. You KNOW those kids aren’t acting, they are legitimately terrified! I just want to protect them... I love that my son loves this movie, too. He especially loves the raptors. ;)

I was eight when Jurassic Park came out and I was OBSESSED with dinosaurs...so naturally, I was taken to see it in theatres. It wasn't the first movie I saw in the theatres (I truly cannot remember what that honour goes to), but it was the first thriller I saw - and yes, it was scary, but all I remember is having just so much fun with it! I was hiding in my seat laughing my ass off, my mom was there laughing at the thrills, the audience was completely into it...quite frankly, it's one of my favourite childhood memories. :) I don't think I had as much fun at the cinema again until the opening night of Avengers: Endgame last year and listening to the audience hooting and hollering at every important moment. :)

Well, Andre, my story isn't as special as yours, but, 'ere goes nothin'.
I'm in my early 20s, so I wasn't born when Jurassic Park came out, but when I was really young (I'd say around 4-5 years old) I was crazy into dinosaurs. I loved watching Walking With Dinosaurs on TV, and Barney on PBS kids when it came on in the mornings. I remember watching Jurassic Park on TV for the first time at my Grandmother's house, and it really opened my eyes to the world of dinosaurs. The brachiosaur, the sick trike, the T-rex...it was amazing. As a kid you never really take into account that it's all special effects, I legitimately thought it was real. But, long story short, I've been a Jurassic fan ever since, and I finally got that theatre experience when they re-released the movie in 3D not too long ago. Almost brought me to tears.

It's interesting that they used animal sounds for the Jurassic Park dinosaurs.
The Raptors were a combo of underwater dolphin screams and walrus chest cavity roars.
The Tyrannosaurus rex utilized primarily the sounds of a baby elephant, alligator and tiger.
Dilophosaurus was a combo of a hawk, howler monkey, swan and rattlesnake.

My parents took me to see Jurassic Park when it came out, even though I was only about 3 years old. I actually vividly remember the T Rex attack, but not once did I cry or freak out. I actually came out of the theater stomping my feet and acting like I was a dinosaur. To say that Jurassic was an influence on my childhood would be an enormous lie. Jurassic Park WAS my childhood. Because of that movie, all of my heroes growing up were scientists rather than superheros (not that I didn't have a huge soft spot for Batman at the time). I haven't let go of that sense of wonder that was instilled in me, even 27 years later.

I saw Jurassic Park in the theater while I was in Minnesota visiting my aunts and grandparents. I think we chose it because one of my aunt's had heard it was good. Not sure if I'd even seen a trailer for it? Anyway, I came out of that theater with my MIND BLOWN. I was scared, I was excited, and I'd learned about Velociraptors for the first time. It's so crazy to think how Jurassic Park took this dinosaur most people had never heard of and VAULTED it to fame, to stand tall with the T Rex and the Triceratops and the other "famous" dinosaurs.
Tbh the original Jurassic Park is kind of the only Jurassic Park for me; none of the sequels have ever come close to it and they all felt very unnecessary. In my own head, Jurassic Park ended when the soaring score from that first movie ended. That's all I needed.

I was born one year after the movie released, so unfortunately I never had the chance to see it in theaters at the time. But my parents saw it with a friend named Billy and they were both awestruck and terrified at the same time! When the scene of the T-Rex breaking out came, Billy left the theater and went into the arcade cuz he was afraid, and my parents looked around the theater asking “Wait, where’s Billy?” 🤣 The first time I saw Jurassic Park was on TV in the early 2000s, and I LOVED IT!! What I sometimes think about is the scene where we first see the brachiosaurus walking towards the tree and the beautiful John Williams score starts playing, I don’t think we’ll ever have another scene like that in any movie in the future that will top that moment where a vast majority of us had never seen special effects like that ever! That’s why Jurassic Park, along with Spielberg’s many other masterpieces like Jaws, should be viewed by many and be appreciated for what it was able to accomplish: seeing dinosaurs rise again in pure movie magic 🦖🦕🎥✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻

I love how they used modern animal sounds for the dinosaurs. The Tyrannosaurus rex's sounds were made using sounds recorded from the squeals of a baby elephant, a dog playing with a rope toy, an alligator's gurgling, a whale breathing through its blowhole and a tiger's snarl. The Dilophosaurus was a mix of a hawk, swan, rattlesnake and howler monkey.

I wasn't able to see this one in theaters, but my roommates did and quoted it so much that when I finally got to rent it from Blockbuster, I already knew most of the script, just not the order in which it happened 🙃 However, I do still remember when my dad took me to see Star Wars, that's another one that was just special the first time. He didn't get as excited about movies as I did, but he still went out and bought the soundtrack, and on Sundays when we'd listen to music and eat donuts or pecan rolls while reading the paper, sometimes he'd pull out the Star Wars and Mom would roll her eyes because she knew we'd start talking about the movie again.

LUCKY!! I wanted so bad to see it in theaters back in 93.
I was 5 or 6 when this movie came out, and already a HUGE dinosaur nerd. (I still am!!) We were a poorer family, so I never got to see it in theaters, unfortunately. I had to wait an entire year for the VHS release, while all of my classmates, teachers, aunts, uncles and cousins all got to see it before me. (The same exact thing happened in 97' with The Lost World: Jurassic Park!!)
But when I finally saw it on VHS in October 94'.... I was blown away!! I wasn't even scared at the T-Rex escape/attack scene, I was more in awe!! (My younger siblings and cousins were more scared than I was!!) I'd never seen anything like it before and will always remember that night at home, where I discovered my favorite movie of all time!! (It still is to this day!!)

Firstly I was born in 93 so I didn't get to see Jurassic Park in theaters unfortunately lol all of my experiences with the first 3 JP movies was on vhs/dvd
Secondly I can understand the feeling of wishing that movie magic was still a thing but I really enjoy getting to see such fully detailed behind the scenes stuff. It gives everyone a chance to really see how much it takes and how LONG it takes for soooo many people to put together just 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 hour films. It's a double edged sword I think because I love the movie magic but at the same time I want to fully appreciate and recognize the people crafting the art.
    Great video Andre❤

I remember the special you are talking about....barely. I remember it getting me hyped for the movie, and I also was able to get a book going into the same things. As I had much more time with the book, that was the big thing i remember going into before the movie. it showcased 7 or 8 of the dinosaurs, giving not only some of what they did for the movie, but also gave a few scientific facts about each as well. I remember that I was able to go see the movie 4 times in theaters, which was crazy for me. The thing that sticks out most to me, is that someone in the audience, at each of my viewings, screamed when the goat leg fell on top of the car at the beginning of the T-rex scene. So when I finally got the home video version, I was surprised that there was no scream, and it took me a few years to peace together that it had come from the audience.

I saw this movie for the first time as a child when it was rereleased in theatre so for 3D. My parents made sure I could go see it because I was (and am) totally obsessed with dinosaurs. My dad and I were the only only people in the theatres. Because of my anxiety, my mom told me the kids would make it out and I had a lot of JP books so was well-prepared for the deaths. This is my favourite movie of all time, I always have a big goofy smile on my face the whole time.

Jurassic Park came out when I was about five years old. During that time, I had been independently going through a 'dinosaur phase'. I loved dinosaurs, I had tons of books and toys that I cherished all because I was fascinated by the creatures that occupied the world before me. I imagine you can see where this is going, haha!
I didn't see the movie in theaters, I was too little, but I distinctly remember when Jurassic Park came out. I remember the trailers for it clearly. Well, one unremarkable afternoon my dad was watching TV in the living room. I was in the opposite side of the house, but I heard a snippet of that John Williams score and I came FLYING across the house and demanded to watch the dinosaur movie with my dad. My parents had rented it. I don't know why they didn't predict my interest in the film (or perhaps they did predict it, but didn't realize everything the movie would contain-either way) I was allowed to watch the movie with my dad.
It scared me out of my skin. The wondering awe at the beginning when you see the Brachiosaurus, the excitement of getting to metaphorically ride along in the Jeep with those kids to explore the park-I was totally hooked. Then, the ominous rain, the foreboding creak of the paddock fensing, the T-rex claws in the dark... the rising tension clutched my chest, my young heart beat against my ribs, and from there the movie only got scarier and more intense as the ill-fated arrogance of man played out on the screen as the park descended into chaos. BUT I LOVED DINOSAURS. So, I adamantly forced my little five year old self to watch the entire movie, stubbornly hiding my terror because I knew if my dad realized I was scared he would turn it off. Haha! I scarred myself, for years after I had nightmares of raptors hunting me in kitchens but my love of dinosaurs remained intact and to this day Jurassic Park is still one of my very favorite movies.
For as scary as it was to my young mind, Jurassic Park is one of the first movies I can remember that created vivid suspension of disbelief as a viewer, and it was an early introduction into my abiding passion for film making and a powerful lesson in storytelling. I go back and watch Jurassic Park now and relish in the careful, precise construction of the plot and the delightful, talented execution by the actors, the craftsmanship of the production effects. So many years later, I still feel that it is a film that is engaging, entertaining, and of markedly high quality.

I had already read the book , before I saw the film. Saw it opening weekend with my family. We got there early and were able to sit 4 rows from the front. When the man got out of the jeep and left the kids, to run to the toilet. (Sorry forgot character name) oh the shame lol. I couldn't help it, I shouted "get back in the effing car". Please remember I was surrounded by families with small children. My mum was so embarrassed. Best cinema experience ever. Jarasic Park is my favourite film. Cant tell you how many times I've watched it. Happy days

I saw Jurassic Park at a drive-in when it was first released. I was 7 or 8 years old and my stepfather at the time tried to scare me during the scene where the lawyer gets eaten.
Apparently, my reaction was to look at him, roll my eyes, and point to the screen with an "Um, can't you see I'm watching something?" look on my face, haha!

I was 2 when Jurassic Park came out, and although I was too young to see it in theatres, here in the UK I remember we had billboard advertisements for the movie, and I remember being in the back seat of the car as we were driving around town, and looking up and seeing this enormous billboard towering over me with the JP logo, and seeing those big bold reds and yellows and the image of the tyrannosaurus skeleton, and that's probably my earliest memory that I can recall so clearly. I didn't actually see Jurassic Park until 1997 when I was 6, my dad bought it on VHS so we could watch it the day before we went to see The Lost World JP at the cinema.

I don't think >anyone< was prepared for how good Jurassic Park was going to be. It seems to me that expectations were just for a typical 1993 action film but nobody knew that the story was going to be funny, smart, scary, and thrilling -- or that the effects were going to be a quantum leap past anything that had ever been done before (and indeed would not be surpassed for many years afterward). People also weren't prepared for the fact that it was going to have superb acting, or one of the best soundtracks of all time. Basically, nobody went in expecting a flawless film but that's exactly what it was, so it blew everyone's socks off.

Still one of my favorite movies! Some memories from seeing it the first time (I was 9 when it came out): 1. Dropping off my friend at her house after the movie and my mom went in with her for a few minutes. Sitting alone in the car in the dark, I was CONVINCED a T Rex was about to come charging at me from down the street 2. About the sound: I have a vague memory that this was one of the first films shown with surround sound? I feel like I remember that being part of the hype 3. My cousin and I spent the summer it came out pretending to be velociraptors and hunting our little sisters 😂
