I needed a way to heat my 20x20 herb and soap shop.
I bought a smaller Direct Vent Propane Heater first but it was too small and too hard to operate.
Also, it is completely silent but you can get an optional fan.
I don't have any fans going in the shop and it keeps it pretty consistently 70 degrees.
Need to have a Mr Heater F276136: Propane Low Pressure Regulator on a 20#-100# tank.
In a small 1 bedroom house. It's more efficient to use a çouple of these than a common gas furnace. Even a so high efficiency one. Because they blower motor uses lots of electricity & alot of heat is lost in the ductwork. Heating the crawl space or basement,etc....My neighbor ladys furnce broje in her trailer. I have her a wall mount heater & it cut her gas bill in almost half along with lowering the electric bill.
I completely agree.
I bought one of these and having a heck of a time getting someone to install it. I'm a 64 yr old woman in not the greatest health. My propane furnace died so now I'm using a space heater for my entire house. I called my propane company and they stated they don't install these anymore. I'm wanting to connect this to my big 300 or 400 gallon tank. A friend said they could do it, but I need to find out all the parts I need. Thank You for your video! It was very informative! Happy New Year!
I have this HEATER, AND I LOVEEEEE IT!!!💯❤️
the radiat is better than the blue flame ones . Also get an eco fan really helps push the air around . I have my parents old eco fan from the huse in PA and that is 50 years old . I also bought a new one to see the differenc , there is really none, except my old one is heavier and bigger . I learned something from the energy council on these do not sit them directly on the floor . Always elevate them up at least a foot to allow more heat to and air circulation . I have one in my unfinished basement of my 2440sq ft modular house insulated with roxul rock wool 2x6 stud walls . I also insulated the slab and exterior walls of the basement . Was laughed at by contractor SAYING THAT WAS OVERKILL 18 thousand BTU dyna glo . same thing just different name
Yess i agree in trying to get a radiant heater now because my blue flame heater isn't doing anything.
Cant get elbow not to point at leg.cant get hose on.back to store.get some new engineers Mr. Heater
Can I set up a propane tank up to it
Easily. Use this for a #20 tank

i have the blue flame one which seems to put a bit of a smell which i don't like. I was hoping the radiant version did not put out any odor.
The smell went away after a few days. And the heater worked great all winter.
Does the blue flame still smell? I just bought it im ready to return it.....
@@kevins5268 Mine stop smelling after a day or so.
@@kevins5268 how much you want for it I’m looking for a blue flame one
@@yankeeman6851 go to flea markets I bought my dyna glo one at a flea market for 30 dollars and it came with the hose and still in the box unused . I did have to buy the feet because it only came with the wall bracket 16 dollars for the feet at lowes and gage to check tank was 5 dollars at the flea market 12 dollars on ebay but well worth it
Why does my brand new heater keeps blowing out
I really have no idea. Anyone have any ideas?
Also learned they sell wheel kit for propane tanks to move them around .Also learned that if the air is dry the heater works harder to warm up the area . I put a small humidifier o the other ide of the basement a got a humidity monitor
Great review but for your safety, your union goes after the gas cock and ridged copper is not legal in most states and please anchor the pipe to the floor. Thank You, Be Safe
Can’t get the flame to turn blue. It’s orange right now. We have cleaned everything we know to clean on it.
I have no idea. Is there an HAVC person you could have look at it?
In the mountains of Georgia, it can be too cold at night for the heat pump for about two months in the middle of Winter.
If you want to hook up to natural gas, you end up paying $240 a year before you get your first bit of gas.
$240 will pay for a big chunk of the Propane I need in a typical winter.
Running at a setting of 2, I spend $8 a day on Propane and can heat the entire 1200 sq ft house to 75 F degrees 24/7.
In a very cold month, I spend less than $250 even if I only use the Propane heater.
Usually, the heat pump is fine during the days when it gets into the 30s and 40s and I only run the heater at night when it's below 30F. If you only need extra help at night, it's less than half the cost !
I bought the propane heater because of the 2021 disaster in Texas. No one expects the power to go out in America, but it can happen. If ice and wind knock out the electricity where I live, I'll be toasty warm with my Mr. Heater. With the glow from the unit, I won't even need candles. When I move, I will take Mr. Heater with me to my new place.
It's a little added security for an emergency.
Can be mounted on the wall or not?
Thank you
Yeah. Just it comes with mounting hardware. Just use that instead of the feet
Does it create a lot of moisture in the room?
Yes. A lot. Even in relatively dry Colorado. Every morning the windows are completely covered with condensation.
They need to make the lowest setting cooler. 70 on low is too warm. What does it heat to at number 3 or 4? I use my blue flame as a backup to my wood stove when I'm not home, and have to leave it set way below 1, which is not recommended.
I never turned mine up past 1 and it kept the room warm even on the coolest of nights.
He's only heating a 20x20 room (he said), which is only 400 sf. This 30k BTU ventless radiant heater is rated for up to 1k sf, (I have one) so the lowest setting doesn't heat a 1k sf room to 70 degrees on the lowest setting here in the cold Northeast. He basically bought a larger heater than he needed, and the 20k BTU ventless would have worked easily, even with poor insulation, in 400 sf. Sounds like you didn't buy a heater with the right amount of BTU's for your square footage, or took into account the amount of insulation you have in the structure, if you can't even set it on 1.
@@OurBlackCatCottage that's what I'm saying. 1 should keep it at much lower temperature, like 55.
@@kibblenbits I don't think you understand how these work. The number setting isn't just the temperature. It is also the flame size.
@@kibblenbits The size of the room doesn't determine when the T-stat calls for heat...I agree it needs to be lower 50 to 55 or lower just to keep the room from freezing at night. 70 is too costly for round the clock heating
If the description didn’t say anything about a thermostat control, why would I expect to get one; this thing sucks!
got one hooked 500 gallon tank
Now that is the way to do it!
Hi... Regardless of the 1-5 setting i select in the knob, all the radiants light all the time. Is this the expected behavior? Thanks
The settings (1-5) are just for setting the temperature (ie amount of time the unit is on). The unit will always burn the same - ie 30k BTU.
I have heard them make a kinda loud clicking noise when they first start up due to the ceramic warming up but once they start cycling to maintain room temperature does this noise continue to happen or not quite as loud.
I've never noticed any loud clicking. There is a bit of mild sound as the unit expands because of the heat and of course the piezoelectric starter makes a click for a second as it is lit.
My elbow simply doesn't screw all the way in.
70° is way to warm.. 50° perfect..
I just got the same unit and it sucks !!! I have followed all instructions and it wont light up . Its been 12 below where I live and my power went out and then my heater just quit now this thing wont light it just smells up the room UGHHH ..
On the back of the heater you have to take a little cover off and select the natural gas option if you have the gas or propane selection.
@@juddrichardson8399 I dont have a button on the back of the heater that gives me the choice this one is propane . i cant figure out why this brand new heater wont start . I have read and reread the instructions and followed everything it said and still wont lite:(
Try cleaning pilot lite air intake, about 2" back from the flame. Probably have to take cover, 4 screws on sides. I use a vacuum cleaner with a velocity end. Had one for almost 30 years , bout all you really need to do.
For your application. What’s the increase ok your gas bill?
Wanting to heat my garage and currently using wood/coal
Weighing my options
It cost about $60 a week for the propane. Hauling the 100# tanks to the refilling station was a bit of a pain. If I was to do it again, I would get the natural gas on and just run a line. Probably be cheaper and less hassle. But it worked great. Even on a -20 night it kept the building in the mid 60s.
@@OurBlackCatCottage they have a 48 lb tank to fill it at midway propane is or was 30 dollars propane goes up every time i look . I bought the tank at midway 50 dollars for new one or 35 for like new used one GUESS WHICH ONE I BOUGHT . Propane gage to check to see how low tank is worth it USED ONE
a little to small..
What kind of odor do you guys get? I have 2 30,000 btu radiant propane heaters and neither one of them produce any odor. Mine are a different brand though
It had a propane type smell for about a day or two then it went away and worked fine.
HINT BUY AN OXYGEN SENSOR
Mine kicks on and gets some kind of gas lock and makes a loud blowing noise and I have to jump up and shut it off and restart it. I can't leave it alone on and unattended. It's done it multiple time and makes me think it's going to explode. My other one works just fine though. Same heater.
Mine has done this 1 time also, pretty sketchy
They do that sometimes not a big deal , restart with thermostat . Sometimes I let go and it'll lite or shutdown. Sounds like a stuttering jet.
Regulator
Use them outside first start up take cover off..alot of smoke. But fine after that..
Never got any smoke but did have some smell at first start. Now it runs nicely.
Do all the grates burn at all times?
Yes. It will always burn at 30k BTU.
Great video. What was the 1st heater that you used for your shop?
Ashley Hearth Products17,000 BTU Direct Vent Propane heater. I bought it because it was a direct vent but just way too undersized. And it was a pain in the ass to start.
Great video
Does it have fan kit installed.
If so any good?
I didn't get the fan kit. It does a good job of heating the 20x20 room without it.
@@OurBlackCatCottage ok. Looks. Like a nice unit. I need something for my little single car garage.
@@brmelectric This unit will be a good fit for that.
