  • 1. RESET ALL
    - Recall blank Scene Memory location, “000”, then press ENTER.
    2. BREAK CHANNEL-to-STEREO patch
    - Select each input Channel, highlight its red “STEREO output assignment”.
    - Press ENTER to break the patch.
    - Repeat with all input channels.
    3. POST-FADE MIXES
    - Highlight “MIX Send 1”, press ENTER.
    - Move your cursor to the top-right of your screen, where it says ALL POST and press ENTER.
    - Select MIX SENDS 2 through 12 using the MIX send buttons, and repeat the process.
    *(MIXES 13-16 are preconfigured for effect-send/return use and we don’t need to change their “Send modality” at this point.)
    4. BREAK MIXES FROM OMNI OUTS
    - Go to the MASTER layer. Here we see all 16 of our Buses.
    - Press the Select button for MIX 1.
    - Move your cursor to highlight the little grey Patch/Output Port assignment & press ENTER.
    - Break the connection by highlighting OMNI 1 and pressing ENTER.
    - Repeat this process with the rest of the Mixes for your show.
    5. PATCH MIXES TO STEREO
    - Press the HOME button, to return to the Main screen of the MASTER layer.
    - Move your cursor down to highlight the red STEREO output assignment & press ENTER.
    - Repeat this process with each MIX.
    6. SEND STEREO TO MATRIXES
    - Select STEREO bus and send its signal to each MATRIX by:
    - Press the first MATRIX SEND button.
    - Using the SELECTED SEND pot to turning up the send amount until you reach unity gain of 0.
    - Do this with each MATRIX SEND
    - PRESS the STEREO bus’ Select button again, to access the RIGHT side of the STEREO bus.
    - Repeat send assignment process for the Right side of your STEREO bus, to all 8 MATRIXES.
    7. PATCH MATRIXES TO OMNI OUTS
    The LS9 is configured by default to have Mixes feeding the Outputs.
    We however, feed our outputs with Matrixes, as doing this gives us greater flexibility in terms of both DSP and routing.
    - Press the SETUP button at the top-left of the DISPLAY ACCESS section of the LS9 until you reach the SYSTEM SETUP screen.
    - Highlight “OMNI 1-8” and press ENTER.
    - Click the drop-down from each OMNI-OUT and select an appropriate MATRIX to feed the output.
    - For now, we keep things simple by assigning MATRIX1 to OMNI 1, MATRIX 2 to OMNI 2, MATRIX 3 to OMNI 3, etc.
    8. SEND INPUT CHANNEL TO BUS
    Now, all of our routing is done.
    We can apply gain to our mics/Input Channels, assign them to their appropriate Mixes & bring our channels up.
    - Select the Input Channel of your microphone
    - If the mic requires Phantom Power, navigate your cursor to the 48V icon and press ENTER
    - Press the CUE button.
    - Turn up your HA Gain knob, until you reach a decent level on the MAIN METER.
    - Double-tap the Mix Bus you are assigning the mic/or MICS to, then bring each faders’ level to be assigned to that mix to UNITY gain.
    - Press HOME, bring up your red STEREO MASTER fader, followed by the fader for your mic.

    Thanks, you made our show happen as I given an old LS9 for our gig. Your clear step through allowed me to literally plug in and play and make the right adjustments. Afterwards, feedback was it was it was the best sound at the party for a long time.

    Why most of the UA-cam tutorials about audio gear or audio in general, usually sound crap?
    This could be a good video, but it is almost inaudible.

      I agree - the audio is far from optimal. But because of struggling with the LS-9 initially, I made this video at work (with an iPhone 4), just to help my fellow co-workers who've never used this console. Had no idea that others would ever even look at or benefit from this video as well, but it makes me happy to know that some have!

    I find that when I pan a channel in the mix bus, FOH mix also gets panned. How do you pan channels in the mix bus without affecting the FOH mix?

    Do I have to do this everytime I use the mixer or I can save and just play

    • @alexmarkowski4893
      @alexmarkowski4893  Рік тому +1

      Yes. Once you've configured the setup, you can just it as a scene, then recall whenever you are mixing a show.. No need to go through setup each time.

    on an input channel, shouldnt we highlight stereo so that the signal goes to the stereo bus and then to the matrices?

    • @alexmarkowski4893
      @alexmarkowski4893  2 роки тому

      It's personal preference. Bypassing the Stereo Bus is often desirable, for direct connection to the AUX, regardless of the Stereo Bus' position, such as a Pre-Fader setup.

    So what are you using auxes for in this case ? I normally use them for stage monitors and use a matrix for the main PA. If I have any leftover auxes I’ll use them for group processing.

    how to assign effects on coustom fader layer

    • @alexmarkowski4893
      @alexmarkowski4893  2 роки тому +1

      Effects assignment on the Custom Fader Layer is the same as other layers. In the DISPLAY ACCESS section, press the [RACK 1-4] key and [RACK 5-8] key simultaneously to access the VIRTUAL RACK screen. From the VIRTUAL RACK screen, highlight the GEQ/EFFECT field & press ENTER. There, you can select the effect that you would like to insert.

    Thanks for the video, why do you call channels "mixes"?

    • @robinweber9640
      @robinweber9640 2 роки тому

      we don't. channels are channels and mixes are mixes. Also, Matrices are matrices. There's three level and the Stereo L+R mix

    How to copy and paste EQ?

    • @alexmarkowski4893
      @alexmarkowski4893  2 роки тому +1

      Go to the channel you want to copy from, select the EQ section & press the ENTER button, so that the EQ popup screen appears. Once you do that, small "tool buttons" will appear at the top of the popup screen, with the options: LIB, DEF, COPY, PASTE & COMPARE. Select COPY & press the ENTER button. Then go to the channel you want to past to, select the EQ section & press the ENTER button, so that the EQ popup screen appears again, highlight the PASTE "tool button" and press ENTER. This procedure is the same for copy/paste functions for the channels' High Pass Filter, Dynamics and Graphic EQ and Effect Library.

      Sorry, but I have only used the LS-9 in a live scenario, not in the studio. So I am not familiar with the console's talkback functionality. In the studio, I use a UAD Apollo x6, utilizing its talkback/dim function.
