Overbore it 0.060 to make it a 4.4 or if your lucky to get the 0.080 which would make it a 4.556cc motor, Almost a 4.6. Drop a Lunati 268/270 cam kit. Comes with the springs you'll need and timing chain set in it and go have some fun. Roller rocker arms 1.5 or 1.6 from Jegs and your ready to blow some doors. Measure the height on the valve covers to make sure the poly locks clear the height. ETA is about 240-250HP and over 310 LBS torque

I used the stock computer for everything but the fuel injection. And I used one of the fuel injection wires to run the electric choke. I used the stock distributor and coil. I disconnected the computer plug and capped it off. On that computer plus there was a purple and brown wire (I think) that is for the fuel pump. I ran that with the tach wire for the pump to run. Then used a Holley fuel pump regulator to regulate the fuel from the fuel pump. Stock pump makes 15psi and dropped it to 5.5psi for that particular carb. I pulled the check engine light when I changed the cluster lights to LED. Pulled the bulb and put a piece of electrical tape over the hole. Hope this was helpful 🤘🏻🤘🏻
How did you setup the trans to work without the computer? Is there any TPS for the carb that sends a signal to the trans for shifting you can buy for this as well as RPM sensors? I would like to go from CBFI to carb on my 98 Vortec and do away with all the sensors, anti-theft, computer. Your truck sounds awesome! Thanks in advance!
Thanks! Holley does make a TPS sensor that bolts to the choke side of the carburetor that is used for shift points and other things with the electronic transmissions. My transmission is the last year of the non electronic 4L60/700r4 so all I had to worry about was proper adjustable for my TV cable. As far as the other stuff you mentioned in not to sure how you would go about doing away with the security stuff.

Nice work on the dime. Just wondering about how the surpentine set up work. Need a list of the assembly. Buying new assembly with out air. Help me. Appreciate
Thanks! My truck came with the 4.3 so I just reused the stock brackets and pullies. And take into account that the small block chevy bracket and pulley kits should work being the 4.3L is exactly the same on the front as a SBC.
At the time I was able to get away with the build and installed for around 3500.00. Motor alone was 2500.00. Check out my other videos if you like. Thanks for watching!😁
The only thing I used from the ECU on this carb swap was the fuel pump wire that was connected to the ECU plug on the distributor. I tied the fuel pump wire in with the tach wire for proper voltage. Other than the factory gauge sensors nothing else from the original TBI system was used.
I’m just getting ready to start assembling mine. It’s a 96 balance shaft block using earlier heads. What distributor are you using. 85 hei? Will be dropping it into a 71 CJ5. Thanks
@@fordracer1415 yes. Just unplug the plug that operates the fuel pump and signals back to the ecu. And use the pigtail that goes from the coil to the distributor itself. You will have to connect the fuel pump wire "purple & brown" if I remember right to a tach wire or the negative side of the coil.

It's a bit of a pain and it's an expensive swap. I would stick with the spider injection and just get the upgraded injectors for it. I got my wife a 2000 blazer that has the spider injection and it works flawlessly. The intake manifold options for this little 4.3 alone are in the 350-500 dollar range.
@@Blitzkreger00 I understand they are expensive but at this point it's cheaper than buying another spider set-up I've had a few problems with the after market options for my year but I'm kicking around ideas at the moment the spider injection is around the same price as a new intake in most cases Thanks for the insight
@@tracysayer9035 your very welcome! Man I hope you get it going the way you want. You should pick up a little performance with the carb swap if you go that route.
The 1800 stall worked fine for driving and towing. But trying to run, it wanted to start pushing at around 1600 on drag radials. It definitely needed 2000+ stall to run harder. I didn't go with a bigger stall until I LS swapped it. It got a 9.75" 3000-3200 converter when that happened.

@@AK-ic1yj the carb was great when it worked properly. Honestly if you have the means I would save and go with a Fitech or Holley carb style EFI. I like the Fitech stuff cause it's a bit more affordable, self tuning and works great for the money. You can tune it with a laptop like Holley but not many people use Fitech. If you are running a older TBI setup it works well for stock and mild builds. Hello, I like what you have done and are doing with the s-10. That's my idea of the ultimate sleeper. A little s10 pulls up next to some big block, SS, or 5.0 and hands them their lunch. I have a 95 Chevy s-10 4.3 L cmfi with the enhanced Distributor ignition. I have had so many problems with the truck; the latest has caused it to be down for the last four months. Tbi is gone. Used an injector hot wire for the electric choke and the tach tire for the stock fuel pump to work with the carb and regulator set to 6psi
Good job but why not you run with tbi , i have same s10 and end engine i will add same cam and vortec but i willrun with tbi , is this good idea؟ with tbi and why ?
I ended up running a carburetor cam and the TBI didn't like it even with the burnt chip. Soni did the carb swap and it ran way better. Thanks for watching and check out my other videos!
I think so but they do have people or there that would disagree. The 1998 4.3 does have a balance shaft. So if you decide to do something with it just remember that cause camshafts, Timing gears, timing covers, gaskets and a couple of other little things are different from mine in this video.

I would say around the 350-360hp range. My father thinks it’s making more just on how good it pulls. I read an article where they built one almost identical using the tbi heads and it made 300hp. And those heads are junk lol.
Stock they made like 200 or so at the crank. I could see 300 or a little over at the crank. At the wheels it's probably around 250ish or a little more.
Looking under the hood and inside at the dash cluster reminds me of my 89 s10 Blazer. Even looking under the hood gives me memories. It’s nice seeing an older truck like this get some TLC. Were you lucky enough to find any long tubes for the headers?
@@briantillman8733 Pacesetter makes headers as well, but usually you’ll only find the shorties. They seem to work great in my 99 s10 with a little bit of pipe fabrication.

Well it all depends on what you're trying to do. This particular cam is a mild carburetor cam. Worked great as a daily driver. Usually you can get the can kit with the cam, lifters, springs and timing chain for around 800.00 if you want to run a hydraulic roller.
@@Blitzkreger00 just looking for a little bit more for top speed. Somthing that’s makes me feel like I’m not throttling it all the time to get up to speed
How much coin did it cost you for the carb swap? I'm thinking about doing the same job to my S10. It has 255,000 original miles and it runs good. But I believe it can run better.
It's a complicated job. But I recommend changing to a 1996 year vortec head if you decide to because the four barrel intakes are expensive and don't really give you much more performance cause of those crappy tbi heads.
Removed the TBI and all of the electronics that went with it, added a Holley fuel pressure regulator with return, tapped into the fuel lines with the regulator, used the TBI distributor and coil but just removed the ECU plug and cut it out but I used the purple and brown fuel pump wire to use the stock 15psi pump in the tank. I tired the fuel pump wire in with the tach wire. Changed the intake and added the carb. I'm sure I missed a couple of things but that's the gist of it. I should have a parts list in the description below.
@@meeetallicaaaa factory gauges are on different sensors but yes all of the gauges worked for me. You have two temp sensors one for the ECU and one for the gauge. Just make sure the temp gauge and oil sensor gauge are plugged in securely.

Nice truck and great sound 👌. What you recommend to get more power of my 93 4.3 ?

@@Blitzkreger00 thanks same to your family, I bought my truck not knowing how popular they were, I love when people loks at my truck, but I get lost when comes to power, I'll definitely will do your recommendation bro..👍

Get it going. The description should have a parts lost for lost of what was done.
What did you do about the computers when you put this motor in? Like how did you bypass the check engine lights and stuff
@@Blitzkreger00 Thank you for this information! You did a lot of research to know all this. I will start collecting the parts over time. At the time I was able to get away with the build and installed for around 3500.00. Motor alone was 2500.00. Check out my other videos if you like. Thanks for watching!😁
How did you programm the computer, because of the removale of all of the censors on the stock intake, how did you get it to run right?
The only thing I used from the ECU on this carb swap was the fuel pump wire that was connected to the ECU plug on the distributor. I tied the fuel pump wire in with the tach wire for proper voltage. Other than the factory gauge sensors nothing else from the original TBI system was used.
I’m just getting ready to start assembling mine. It’s a 96 balance shaft block using earlier heads. What distributor are you using. 85 hei? Will be dropping it into a 71 CJ5. Thanks
I was able to wire up the stock ignition system with MSD parts and wires to work. HEI is a bit tight especially if your running a double pumper.
Jeffery K can you do that without a ecu
@@fordracer1415 yes. Just unplug the plug that operates the fuel pump and signals back to the ecu. And use the pigtail that goes from the coil to the distributor itself. You will have to connect the fuel pump wire "purple & brown" if I remember right to a tach wire or the negative side of the coil.

How did you wire in your coil and which one did you use? Thx
I just unplugged the ecu plug at the distributor and used the pigtail coming from the coil to the distributor.
A lot of people waste money and space in a HEI distributor when the TBI ignition system works just fine.
Cut the purple wire off of the ecu plug and tie it into the ground/tach wire on the could for that is your fuel pump wire.
Hey man I was wondering how hard it it's to do the carb swap on this I understand the whole motor has been built but I have a 94 s10 blazer and I'm trying to get rid of the pos spider injection system would it be a straight forward swap I'm pretty good with motors just new to the 4.3
It's a bit of a pain and it's an expensive swap. I would stick with the spider injection and just get the upgraded injectors for it. I got my wife a 2000 blazer that has the spider injection and it works flawlessly. The intake manifold options for this little 4.3 alone are in the 350-500 dollar range.
@@Blitzkreger00 I understand they are expensive but at this point it's cheaper than buying another spider set-up I've had a few problems with the after market options for my year but I'm kicking around ideas at the moment the spider injection is around the same price as a new intake in most cases

With the carb the TBI is now obsolete? You left the ECU in just to use it for a keyed power-source for the choke and the fuel pump...correct?
Tbi is gone. Used an injector hot wire for the electric choke and the tach tire for the stock fuel pump to work with the carb and regulator set to 6psi
Good job but why not you run with tbi , i have same s10 and end engine i will add same cam and vortec but i willrun with tbi , is this good idea؟ with tbi and why ?

Is a 1998 year 4.3 vortec a good engine
I think so but they do have people or there that would disagree. The 1998 4.3 does have a balance shaft. So if you decide to do something with it just remember that cause camshafts, Timing gears, timing covers, gaskets and a couple of other little things are different from mine in this video.

It's a complicated job. But I recommend changing to a 1996 year vortec head if you decide to because the four barrel intakes are expensive and don't really give you much more performance cause of those crappy tbi heads.
What all did you do to get rid of the tbi
Removed the TBI and all of the electronics that went with it, added a Holley fuel pressure regulator with return, tapped into the fuel lines with the regulator, used the TBI distributor and coil but just removed the ECU plug and cut it out but I used the purple and brown fuel pump wire to use the stock 15psi pump in the tank. I tired the fuel pump wire in with the tach wire. Changed the intake and added the carb. I'm sure I missed a couple of things but that's the gist of it. I should have a parts list in the description below.
@@Blitzkreger00 do the factory guages still work or na
@@meeetallicaaaa factory gauges are on different sensors but yes all of the gauges worked for me. You have two temp sensors one for the ECU and one for the gauge. The single gree wire is the temp gauge. Then you have a oil pressure sensor at the back of the engine behind the intake next to the distributor. And the volt gauge works through the alternator. Just make sure the temp gauge and oil sensor gauge are plugged in securely.
@@Blitzkreger00 so they aren't apart of the factory tbi harness that's getting ripped out. Or they just ran straight from the sensor to the guage
@@meeetallicaaaa it's all part of the factory harness. Just unplug what isn't used and cut it out or wrap it up. If you decide to run an electric choke I used one if the injectors hit wire for a constant 12v source. Hope I was able to help you out.
Is it hard to turn it from fuel injection into carbureted
They come throttle bodied already.
What cam is that?? And will it fit in my 98 s10?
This cam will not fit. Its a non-balanced retro fit style cam. Your 98 S10 will most likely have the Balanced Shaft style engine. They have similar grinds for the balanced shaft 4.3L engines.
@@Blitzkreger00 I had a feeling itd be different.. are they both pushrod engines?
Hudboys, yes they are.
I have a 93 all original 4.3 s10 will newer vortec heads fit. If I get a intake like this
@@snooterdavid1969 In 93 the 4.3 was available as both TBI (160hp) and Vortec (200hp). Which was yours? Since it came with both, they should fit but I am not sure if the Vortec V6 heads changed through the different years.
Do you have a build sheet by chance?
I have a list of most of the parts and things done to the little engine. If your planning on building a 4.3L like this with the carb I would recommend a little bigger camshaft. Possibly the 280HR.
@@Blitzkreger00 cool I got a lsx too but I wanna stay simple in my dime and what you did perked my interest plus it’s body dropped and bagged on 20 up front trying to keep it uncluttered
@@turbodiesel101 very nice! Yeah I don't know if you seen my latest videos but I'm in the process of putting in a built LS6. 4.3L started making a little noise and after I yanked the motor I checked the plugs and they were all fried. Might have been an easy fix lol
@@Blitzkreger00 I just watched it a few minutes ago lol you did good on the ls with what you paid for it
@@turbodiesel101 I think so. It's costing me way more than I wanted to spend but hopefully the payoff will be sweet. I will be making an update #2 video soon
What rims are you using
Kool Kid They are JEGS wheels 15x4 front and 15x8 rears with a 4” back spacing i believe. Running hossier quick time 275/50-15 tires on them. I bought them in black. Those are my second set of rims. I drive around on a set of 2001 S10 xtreme 16x8 wheels.
What year is this engine?
1992. Thanks for watching!
Sweeeet ...... broseph 😎
Thank you!
What transmission?
At the time it was the 700r4. Thanks for watching!
Que medida son las llantas?
Nut
Sounds good but them baby revs was weak I wanted to hear it scream 😱
Check out my other video I just recently posted. Thanks for watching!
sweet!!!!!
I don't agree that using and old less reliable less efficient, less customizable technology is a good use of time and money. Yes it would have been an excellent build, 40 years ago. Today, not so much.
I just posted a new video talking about that. Have a look! Thanks for watching
This build is really awesome in the present times. Think how cool it would be to drop a flathead in build today!? I would be WAY more interested and impressed in that build than a ls or whatever new motor swap.
You must be one of those guys that are afraid of carburetors
That’s only 70 more horse then my zr5 stock
