    Have you ever heard of Susanna Wesley. She lived from the end of the 17th, into the 18th century. She had 19 children, only 10 of which survived into adulthood. Her 2 most famous children were John and Charles Wesley, the famous evangelists. When she wanted her quiet time to read her Bible and pray, she would sit with her apron over her head. The children knew that meant to leave her alone during that time. How's that for getting your privacy? 🙂

    I promise myself a reward if I meet my goals for the day (not food). Can be a cup of tea, reading, watching a Diane In Denmark video, a face mask, bubble bath, walk etc. Gives me impetus to get things done early!

    Great tips, thank you Diane, I always come away with 'something' I can use!! One thing I do when out walking is, because I like to talk out my thoughts as I walk, I put in my pink ear buds so others think I'm having a conversation and not talking to my self. ::) and I'm not interrupted :) thanks again Diane!!

    Yes, that's familiar! After cooking, cleaning and some home business, I'm ready to get back in focus with housekeeping! And I do have a plan for my day that is posted: Morning, Mid-Morning, Afternoon and Nighttime Routines and it's a great help, especially when I get thrown off. I can glance at it and get back on track. Lighting candles is a great idea! I'm looking at piles of papers that I cannot ignore anymore and received 6 pretty candles as a gift. I will light them! And I LOVE the "ra-ra-ra" at the beginning and the end. It makes me happy!

    I have 4 children from 9 months old - 6 years old and am currently homeschooling the 4 & 6 yr old. I find your tips very practical and helpful. The Fly Lady system I’ve found extremely productive and it’s nice to feel like the days are in control rather than being dictated by the constant interruptions from the children. They respond much better too when I’m not overwhelmed. Like you said, we as mothers and wives are the first domino and set the tone for our homes. Thanks for sharing with us today 🤍

    Hi Diane! Great video :) :) I use the headphone trick all the time too, with little kids around, I just pop one in my ear and leave the other to listen in case something goes awry. I like the idea of adding hygge to the spaces where you have to do boring work. I just listened along to this video while doing dishes - so thank you to you for making in more enjoyable :) hugs! For those of us with pain conditions or physical and meantal health issues..it’s ok to set the timer for 20minutes Bc you move slower! I have mobility issues it can take me five minutes to stand up some days. But I still try to stay on routine. Diane you keep my attitude in a better place thank you! Love from USA❤

    Another fantastic video, full of great tips, thanks Diane!
    Another tip for older kids that keep interrupting….every time they interrupt you say “Oh fantastic, I’m so pleased you’re here! I was just thinking I need someone to do this “….” job (describe whatever it is). Would you do that now for me please?” Do that a few times and they’ll start avoiding you like the plague! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • @DianeinDenmark
      @DianeinDenmark  2 роки тому

      Great idea, Doc G! 😅 We used to do the same when the kids said "I'm bored..." LOL!

  • @ellenh278
    @ellenh278 2 роки тому +3

    I love the tall candlesticks you've acquired. They look very elegant there.
    What helped me with not getting interrupted by others is to communicate I'm not going to be available between this time and that time, and to give them the opportunity beforehand, a last chance as you will, to get any questions answered or quick help with something before I'm going MIA.

    Hi, Diane, great advice! I really have to use this head phone trick more, because the older I am the more I forget what I’m just doing if I’m interrupted all the time! Not only little kids are doing that…. My headphones are smaller, hope, they’ll be seen… haha: I’ve never thought about a nice sourrounding while digging in papers or paying bills, but why not? Thank you for sharing, love, Monika❣

    I like the suggestion of taking things you want to deal with into another space that feels clear and open. It gives you a new look on things I think and could make it easier and more enjoyable or novel or something. I’ll take that one with me! :-)
    I don’t have any kids to interrupt me. Cats yes, and that happens sometimes. One of them might want to come inside or go out, or play, and another one wants to eat again and again and again (she’s almost 19, so I give her food in smaller amounts pretty much when she wants it and is able to eat it!)… and I’m pretty good at distracting myself all by myself, as well! Thanks for these tips, I’m still playing with things to see what works best for me.
    Deciding what I want to get done in a day and going through with it is in itself a challenge somehow! (hello from a fellow type one, secondary two or three)

    I like the idea of routines and the pomodoro and top of the hour method! I find hourly schedules do not work for me. So I think 4 time blocks like morning, afternoon, evening, and night might work. I watched your previous 5 day self-care challenge videos. What a wonderful video series, it would be fun if you did another one! Thanks for the motivation!

      If it’s something I’ve to think about, I (try to) prepare people around me, sharing my plans. Not always working… so most of the time I’m waiting until I’m alone at home or, if it’s writing, I’ll go out into a café: hygge combined with a project…and taking bills, library books, going shopping. On sunny days I’ll go to a parc nearby, combining motion with a plan or project. So LEAVING is my most used method.

    Wow - a curation of the most fabulous techniques to help us focus. Thanks, Diane.
    My favourite technique is the ‘deep focus’ for fifteen minutes when I don’t permit myself to entertain any other interruptions.
    Working from home I find the headphones are also a super useful technique when someone else is home. I even use them sometimes when there is nothing playing - but let’s keep that between us. ;-). D.
