Have you ever heard of Susanna Wesley. She lived from the end of the 17th, into the 18th century. She had 19 children, only 10 of which survived into adulthood. Her 2 most famous children were John and Charles Wesley, the famous evangelists. When she wanted her quiet time to read her Bible and pray, she would sit with her apron over her head. The children knew that meant to leave her alone during that time. How's that for getting your privacy? 🙂
Fascinating, Holly!
I promise myself a reward if I meet my goals for the day (not food). Can be a cup of tea, reading, watching a Diane In Denmark video, a face mask, bubble bath, walk etc. Gives me impetus to get things done early!
Ohhh I like this🥰🥰🥰
Rewatching this and feeling motivated to focus my energy and get things done!
Diane, I’ve been watching your program for a while and I have to say I LOVE your new hairstyle and makeup. It is so you! I like the way you have identified your style and you know how to stick to it with clothing choices etc. You are one inspirational person!
You always make me feel like I can do it. Keep up the great videos!
I laughed aloud when I was about to start a project when suddenly this title popped up. Oh the will power it took to wait to watch this until after I finished my task 🤣
Thanks Diane! You are always a ray of sunshine and a wealth of good information and encouragement.💕
LOL! Good for you for resisting, Lisa! And getting your "reward" afterwards 😄
Great tips, thank you Diane, I always come away with 'something' I can use!! One thing I do when out walking is, because I like to talk out my thoughts as I walk, I put in my pink ear buds so others think I'm having a conversation and not talking to my self. ::) and I'm not interrupted :) thanks again Diane!!
Wow it’s nice to still have their mom . I m 58 and it 26 years my mom passed …
I like listening to you and other motivational UA-camrs. I also like to divide my day in chunks. By 11.00 I'll get so much done, by 1.00, 3.00, 5.00 etc by 8.00 I'll be sitting down with my crochet 😀
What exactly do you mean?
@@macprincess2 that I'll get certain things done by certain times
Yes, that's familiar! After cooking, cleaning and some home business, I'm ready to get back in focus with housekeeping! And I do have a plan for my day that is posted: Morning, Mid-Morning, Afternoon and Nighttime Routines and it's a great help, especially when I get thrown off. I can glance at it and get back on track. Lighting candles is a great idea! I'm looking at piles of papers that I cannot ignore anymore and received 6 pretty candles as a gift. I will light them! And I LOVE the "ra-ra-ra" at the beginning and the end. It makes me happy!
Yay, glad you will be using your candles, Michelle! Rah, rah, rah!
... I get up off my "Bahhookie" with your Motivational "Cheering me on"! Ty 😁
Diane!!!! You are the Auntie I have been searching for!! My house is a clutter mountain and I am overwhelmed how to start chipping away at it. So wonderful to have found you!!! I feel better now knowing someone is there to support me!!🥰🥰🥰
Aww, thank you for the kind words!
Awesome suggestions!!! You always make me feel like success is right there!!! Thank you Diane!!!
Aww, what a wonderful comment, Mary - thank you so much! I'm glad my videos are helpful! 😍
When my kids were small end of day before their bath and playing I be washing up the evening meal I’d put on my ear phones with my favourite music to zone out
Have a bit of me time but their all grown up with kids of their own
The 1st Domino, 🤣.. so true 👍!
This is just what I do with my phone. Great tip.
Thanks for sharing , Diane!
I have 4 children from 9 months old - 6 years old and am currently homeschooling the 4 & 6 yr old. I find your tips very practical and helpful. The Fly Lady system I’ve found extremely productive and it’s nice to feel like the days are in control rather than being dictated by the constant interruptions from the children. They respond much better too when I’m not overwhelmed. Like you said, we as mothers and wives are the first domino and set the tone for our homes. Thanks for sharing with us today 🤍
We're in the same boat! I'm pregnant with my 4th. I have a wild 1 year old son and am homeschooling my 6 and 4 year old daughters. I was absolutely overwhelmed a few months ago and decided to get myself and my home under control. I have never "nested " so eagerly. Lol! Wishing you happiness and health!!!
Brilliant, Annie Louise! Go you for implementing the system!
Hi Diane! Great video :) :) I use the headphone trick all the time too, with little kids around, I just pop one in my ear and leave the other to listen in case something goes awry. I like the idea of adding hygge to the spaces where you have to do boring work. I just listened along to this video while doing dishes - so thank you to you for making in more enjoyable :) hugs! Steph
I used the headphone trick before I retired. 😉
Glad I could help with the dishes, Steph! 😅 How's it working out now that you're also doing your Routines at the weekend, hopefully there is less pile-up and less stress for you on Monday morning? Hugs to you and family! 😍
For those of us with pain conditions or physical and meantal health issues..it’s ok to set the timer for 20minutes Bc you move slower! I have mobility issues it can take me five minutes to stand up some days. But I still try to stay on routine. Diane you keep my attitude in a better place thank you! Love from USA❤
Tho I will say we were headsets so often working from home and just in modern life ..it no longer reminds them to leave me alone. I usually have to say “I’m listening to something I’ll be with you in a bit” 😅❤
Another fantastic video, full of great tips, thanks Diane!
Another tip for older kids that keep interrupting….every time they interrupt you say “Oh fantastic, I’m so pleased you’re here! I was just thinking I need someone to do this “….” job (describe whatever it is). Would you do that now for me please?” Do that a few times and they’ll start avoiding you like the plague! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great idea, Doc G! 😅 We used to do the same when the kids said "I'm bored..." LOL!
I love the tall candlesticks you've acquired. They look very elegant there.
What helped me with not getting interrupted by others is to communicate I'm not going to be available between this time and that time, and to give them the opportunity beforehand, a last chance as you will, to get any questions answered or quick help with something before I'm going MIA.
Great tip, Ellen!
Always make a list, have good habits, clear as you go along. Enjoy life😊
Hi, Diane, great advice! I really have to use this head phone trick more, because the older I am the more I forget what I’m just doing if I’m interrupted all the time! Not only little kids are doing that…. My headphones are smaller, hope, they’ll be seen… haha: I’ve never thought about a nice sourrounding while digging in papers or paying bills, but why not? Thank you for sharing, love, Monika❣
I try not to look at my iPad before I have finished my chores 😊❤️
Good one, Joan - rewarding yourself for good behaviour! LOL!
I like the suggestion of taking things you want to deal with into another space that feels clear and open. It gives you a new look on things I think and could make it easier and more enjoyable or novel or something. I’ll take that one with me! :-)
I don’t have any kids to interrupt me. Cats yes, and that happens sometimes. One of them might want to come inside or go out, or play, and another one wants to eat again and again and again (she’s almost 19, so I give her food in smaller amounts pretty much when she wants it and is able to eat it!)… and I’m pretty good at distracting myself all by myself, as well! Thanks for these tips, I’m still playing with things to see what works best for me.
Deciding what I want to get done in a day and going through with it is in itself a challenge somehow! (hello from a fellow type one, secondary two or three)
I like the idea of routines and the pomodoro and top of the hour method! I find hourly schedules do not work for me. So I think 4 time blocks like morning, afternoon, evening, and night might work. I watched your previous 5 day self-care challenge videos. What a wonderful video series, it would be fun if you did another one! Thanks for the motivation!
Glad you enjoyed the self-care challenge! You can do one weekly using my Self-Care Bingo Card...details on the blog dianedenmark.com/2020/10/14/%f0%9f%92%a1-flylady-self-care-by-zone-plus-bingo-card/
Diane, thanks for the tips. It is always inspiring to listen to you, Your tips help to make the daily chores go by quickly.
You're the first domino! Genius! 👌
"You are the first domino..." Diane, you are a genius!! Xxx
That really clicked with as well!!
Glad it was useful, Lisa - I heard it first from my friend, @caroltuttle Carol Tuttle (of Dressing Your Truth) 😍
My reward for tasks is listening to favorite UA-camrs. Or music. Thank you for the tips!
This is me except it's not others interrupting me... it's me interrupting me, lol!
Thanks, Diane for the great ideas and encouragement! The case studies and tips have been very helpful. Looking forward to the next video about kids!
How do you keep yourself focused? What's your best tip! 🖐😃 Do you use Pomodoro, headphones, the Top of the Hour method? And how do you stop all those interruptions?
If it’s something I’ve to think about, I (try to) prepare people around me, sharing my plans. Not always working… so most of the time I’m waiting until I’m alone at home or, if it’s writing, I’ll go out into a café: hygge combined with a project…and taking bills, library books, going shopping. On sunny days I’ll go to a parc nearby, combining motion with a plan or project. So LEAVING is my most used method.
I sometimes find that switching up a routine helps me concentrate. When I was still going to the office, I sometimes took my laptop and sat at a different desk with my headphones on. For some reason it helped me focus.
Good one, Draic!
This is great, when declutering the garage i found a physical timer. Now I have a use for it!
I haven't watched one of your videos in a while. Love your hair!
Love this!
Thanks, Christina! 😀
Thank you for your inspiration. I am a recently new watcher and so enjoy your videos. I look forward to your rah-rah everyday. Your ideas and suggestions are so practical and useful. Thank you for sharing.
Welcome here, Cheryl, and thank you for the lovely comment!
Perfect time for this video. Thanks.
Yes please! I have a 5 years old and a 2 years old boys and even though I’m a coach myself it could be pretty chaotic
Thanks for these great tips. I really needed this reminder bc battling procrastination is my daily struggle. I find that if I promise to REWRD myself AFTER I’ve completed tasks with the things that distract me (watch a mystery) also works great. I’m going to give it a go today. Xx
Great ideas!
Excellent advice! Thank you!!
I loved this video! Just what I needed!
You are amazing Diane!! I’m constantly recommending you to people, so helpful and helpful use!! Love your outfit too! :) thank you!!
Thank you dear Diane! Amazing tips as usual 🙏 I will implement them as a mom to small kids (with no office door 😅). Also thank you SO much for your tip on decluttering an overwhelming space, one box at a time and in a less stressful environment - these are the words if wisdom I needed! Be blessed 💗🎁
You are so very welcome, Titpomderen8! Glad the tips were helpful!
Thank you for the help with concentration!
You're so welcome, Sara!
Hi Diane, I came across your channel through the Secret Slob and have been enjoying the content. thanks for posting this video. It was a great reminder! I use the headphones when I’m tidying the kitchen most evenings and the kids won’t disturb me! Double the job done ✅ Kitchen gets it night time routine and I get to listen to a podcast!
Welcome here, Lynn! Steph, the Secret Slob, is a friend of mine...she got started on her Flylady journey after watching my videos 👏😃
Wow - a curation of the most fabulous techniques to help us focus. Thanks, Diane.
My favourite technique is the ‘deep focus’ for fifteen minutes when I don’t permit myself to entertain any other interruptions.
Working from home I find the headphones are also a super useful technique when someone else is home. I even use them sometimes when there is nothing playing - but let’s keep that between us. ;-). D.
LOL, Darren! We won't tell anyone!
Which head phone have u tried that does not fall off while doing house work when I bend down? Can u share ur experiences? I tried some , they are either too heavy or falling off.
Such great tips! PS, love your top. If you ever spy it with silver stripe and buttons, please let this T4 know!
Nowadays, my distractions are more internal, but I remember closing my office door to coworkers roaming with coffee in their hands... 😅
👏😅😅😅☕️☕️☕️
Yes, so important! How I wish we'd still have doors to close. We have an open floor plan and my coworkers don't understand subtle signals of "leave me alone" 😅 Whenever I'm in the office, I basically have my headphones on at all times. Home office has made me anti-social I guess.
@@draickin Yes. I will confess to making fake phone calls and piling things on my guest chair so noone would sit down and get comfortable. Ha, ha....
You look superb!
🤗
Great ideas, love my wireless headphones
Diane, any tips on getting older kids still living at home involved, i have allowed them to get away with it all but now realise that they will have no skills outside of the home for when they (eventually) leave ......
Hi Emma! See my latest video, you can use many of the tips at any age ua-cam.com/video/h1bT1Iq0GLI/v-deo.html
Not sure it’s a tip, but I get satisfaction crossing things off my list as I complete them.
Always feels good to check things off! 😍
Hi Diane I was wondering if you could help me
I can’t get fly lady focus makes me fabulous podcast anywhere
Would you have any suggestions as I found it so helpful
Kind regards Tracey
Hi Tracey! I'm sure the support staff on the Flylady website will be able to help you! 👋😃
This used to be the only YT channel that never asked me to like and subscribe.
Ha ha, Erin! 😃 Yes, I could put advert breaks in my videos, take money for "Members Only" videos, sell merchandise and make sponsored videos? But leaving a nice comment for me here, a "like" or "subscribe" will be just fine... Thank you so much for your support! 😍
