I am going over alot of your videos to get more inspired even if they are older ones. The information is still pertinent, and I really enjoy watching you Swim the Sea and Ice Swimming ! The three things I am going to do to make a change are: work on finding some to meet with and have lunch, establish a lymphedema Support group ministry that GOD has placed on my heart! Thirdly, find a routine that works with my new health restrictions, recover from Covid and complications from it, and a broken neck and broken back, to name a few . However , this program gives me incentive to get up and build my strength emotionally as well as physically, and only by the GRACE OF GOD I am able now to do more, albeit in a wheelchair! PRAISE GOD! Please keep on doing what you do. You are blessing to many! I

I found out my daughter and I both have ADHD last year and found out routine is INCREDIBLY important for self regulation. I made her 3 routine lists for morning, afternoon, and evening which have been incredibly helpful. So I made lists for myself which I've used for almost a week around my self care priorities, meal time habits, and work routines. Time blocking never worked for me. But these routines ARE! I get so much satisfaction from checking them off every day. And I erase it everyday and don't keep score of the week. I don't want to see where I "failed" or didn't do things. I just celebrate my success and erase it at the end of the day for a fresh start. It's been really helpful.

Texas, USA viewer here- thank you for calling it a “tea towel”. My mom always called kitchen towels “tea towels” and none of my friends or in-laws know what I’m talking about! 😀

I used "tea towel" just the other day when describing to my Danish friend how I dry off water from the sink when I used the faucet to make sure I don't get stains. And I thought to myself where I got that word from. Tea towel. It feels so natural even if English isn't my native language.
I doubted myself thinking that it might be wrong since I couldn't explain why it would be tea in the name.
So thanks to both of you for using the word as well 😁🥰

gosh...thank you for mentioning not to do you routine right before bed. I was getting into a bad habit of going to bed without washing my face because I would be too tired to do it right before bed. Yesterday I set a reminder at 7:00 to wash my face. When the timer went off I got it done and thought why didn't I do this before!!!

Wanted to share this cute PUPA story. I had my eight year old grandson over to make fudge. As we were working I said I was going to teach him about PUPA. After I was done explaining, I asked him if he understood. He said "Yes grandma, I'm going to PUPA the rest of this marshmallow cream right into my mouth" LOL That wasn't quite what I had in my mind but he got the message!!!!!

Gosh not feeling it today. Bahookie is dragging. Think my 'why' has gotten lost with recent events but you've helped me realize that's probably what's missing in my motivational bag of tricks. And THANK YOU for the reminder to focus on a key 3 things. I keep adding to my routines and not taking off and then overwhelm sets in. Most days you are a bit of sunshine, but today you've been a lifeline pulling me back from numbly drifting out to sea. Now, get a bit of coffee in me and I'll get to conquering! Thank you Diane.

Looking around my house right now, I can’t believe how much difference your videos have made. Between ongoing decluttering and routines, messes don’t pile up anymore. It literally takes just a minute to reset a room (PUPA). Best of all - I’m getting old, and it’s nice to have everything in its place so I don’t have to hunt for something I’m looking for. No, the REAL best of all is that maintaining my house is now enjoyable rather than something I hate and keep putting off till tomorrow.

    My essentials right now are
    1. Food and medications (this is for humans and dogs)
    2. Check the calendar to see what’s happening today and what’s for dinner
    3. Shower and get dressed to shoes
There are several other things that I want to do but these are the bare bones essentials.

I have been using the fly lady system with your help. Routine and consistency. I started baby steps and went from there. My family says the house is so clean and tidy and can find things, 2 years to get there. What I find that make a difference is making a meal plan in the morning. That way when you shop you know what to get. And the other thing, for me, is to throw out three things a day. That empty plastic bottle, that piece of paper, that short pencil you never use anymore! Now my family are on board because it is doable and they can see the difference and they want to help and keep everything up to date. Benefits. More time to do what you want (yes, really!). put the timer on before any negative thoughts creep in (you get to see results quicker than if you think about why, why, why!) . And planning a start and finish time has been really helped. As a person who will just work, work, work, this helped me to stop. And not so exhausted. Shining the sink, the family know I have finished for the day. I am moving soon to a bigger house so I have made up Zone areas so will need to see how I cope with more rooms. I am however, confident with the fly lady system, and my family have Zone areas that they are willing to help with. It is about educating what "mess" means, life happens and what "de_clutter" means etc. There is no negative conitations or judgment, we just get on with it as we want to live together under the same roof. Thank you for sharing your great gift to us. Changing peoples lives for the better.

This is so helpful! Having trouble with perfectionism means it is hardly ever clear to me what is a reasonable amount of items to include on a to do list. I am so relieved to see that three will work! I currently have about 8 things on my morning routine, so it is hard to feel successful, because there are always things that get left out or moved to the afternoon.(and then I feel I’m trying to “catch up” all day, because that’s when I’m supposed to be doing the afternoon routine items!) I am going to do one of these sheets for each routine and see how it goes!

My routines lead to feeling organized, which leads to feeling calm which leads to going to bed at night more relaxed and able to sleep for 7 hours which means I wake up rested and happy which leads to better Health! So I do my routines for my health!

Great idea with the elements of your check-off list! I am making a routines sheet for 3 times/day, but I added a 4th task to the morning. It's almost 10:00 and I'm still not getting anything productive done! Though I do make my bed and get dressed pretty much automatically now... so I suppose I can leave that off my list. :D

Hi Diane, you got me thinking. I got out of the hospital a week ago. Im quite tired. Apparently, I will be tired for quite awhile.
Since I got home, I pushed myself to do swish and swipe. Morning is when I have the most energy. And wash my breakfast and lunch dishes. That’s it.
Doctor said she gives prescriptions to women so they can be excused from housework the first month after the hospital! I was in hospital 4 days, with my heart being monitored. Very little sleep.
But I think that adding laying out my clothes and dressing to shoes in the morning is a good idea. So I don’t live my life in pajamas.
Maybe a short PUPA? I haven’t really been cooking dinner or menu planning. Trying my best to keep meals simple and what we have in the house.
I don’t think I can dust or mop for awhile. I might be able to swiffer as I walk to the other end of the house for the bathroom.
    Any suggestions?

This is so perfectly timed as we just launched our DD18 off to university, DS20 in his second year and DD22 graduated/moved across the country w/job; hubby retired in April.. ❤️ I want to habit stack slowing down after 22 years of coaching soccer, volunteering, chaperoning,13 years of Girl Scouts, Eagle Scout mom, you name it! I bought a violin and want to start (re-) learning and would like to add that to my month of October and Flylady routines. Been a Flybaby almost since its inception, back in 2000 when I became a SAHM. Plus, I need to habit stack my office paper clutter on a better schedule. It hasn't worked in a weekly maintenance-- I think I need to make it a daily routine, but some days I just dont even want to go into that room.

We have had so many changes in our family this past year, it’s gratifying to be reminded to adjust routines as life changes. One thing i have struggled with is the mess on my bathroom floor! Everyday after blow drying and straightening, my floor would be covered with hair (I shed a lot lol!)…I got so annoyed having to pull out the big vacuum or broom to clean up after myself everyday! I purchased a lightweight cordless vacuum that I can keep in the closet in the bathroom and boom…my morning routine feels so much more manageable!

My husband added an event to the morning, so I am trying to work on switching accordingly, because it is a blessing to my family. I have been also following Dawn from the Minimal Mom, and I able to get through things better the more I declutter. It totally feels so freeing as I try to become more intentional. I want to add more beauty to the house as well, so I know that is right around the corner. Thank you for your videos! My mom introduced me to you, and you had vudeos on the monthly video lists. Yay, raa raa!

I think that I like many others am a creature of habit. It's a matter of making helpful habits rather than unhelpful ones for me. I recently switched around the order of my morning routine and it's made such a positive difference.

Great idea 👍, thank you Diane. I work 3 days in the office and 2 days from home per week...this means I need two different routines. I will start with the evening routine for office work with three things. And than I will adjust a seconds evening routine, when I know , I'll stay at home office the next day. Very good inspiration and motivation. Thank you.

Biggest struggle I have is setting a timer with my kids around. They are 5.5, 4.5 and almost 2. The older ones will join in with morning routine. They have a few simple things to do like make their bed and put the laundry in the hamper. But inevitably a fight breaks out and I have to pause and go sort that out before I can get on with my things. My almost 2 year old is a disaster. He pulls everything out of everywhere and constantly climbs up on tables, counters etc. when he's not supervised. So again the timer gets paused. The 15mins can turn into an hour very quickly.
I can't do the routine before they are up because I am pregnant with number 4 and desperately need my sleep. I wake half an hour or so before them so I can have my breakfast and read my Bible. This is my non negotiable self care and I can't function without it.
Same goes for zone cleaning, declutter etc. I can set a timer but interruptions are constant. I only usually do zones and decluttering once a month or so to be honest at the moment.
    Any tips?

My problem is at 53, I have never been a cleaner. When I used to work/had kids, I did what I had to do out of necessity, but now, my house is an absolute mess. Of course, that gives me an anxious feeling. I would love to be one of those super organized people who enjoyed cleaning...but I'm not. The biggest issue I see with a lot of plans (and I've tried a bunch) is where to start when your house is a wreck and needs cleaned from top to bottom. How do you start off step-by-step so you don't feel overwhelmed.

We do things in babysteps, so you don't get overwhelmed! Start with the Weekly Upkeep Clean (one hour) and then, when you are comfortable and consistent doing that, add in Zone cleaning. I have explanations (and videos of how to clean etc) on my Flylady Refresher Course ua-cam.com/play/PLxIYCyTLBED-1vdMwaAhm7Z_3Br__gals.html Good luck!

Hi, I've been through this. I couldn't do the zone cleaning right off. I used the assignment of zones to declutter first and I started with the main living room, and then each successive zone each week and it takes time. I seem to remember Flylady used a crisis cleaning where you set a timer for the 15 min in one room and then switch and set a timer for another 15 min in another room, and back and forth to the main areas just to tidy for a total of an hour just to make some order. You also had a laundry basket to put things in that went to another room, I don't know if she still uses that but I remember using the system when I was overwhelmed. There was no cleaning except for washing dishes. Also she played music and lit a candle to get going. Hope that helps

I had to have a repairman come to my home today… I thought he was going to come next week. But he called and said he could be at my house within 30 minutes. Normally I would’ve panicked… But because I’ve been sticking with my routines, it didn’t take me long to tidy up and make my home presentable. There’s no way I would’ve been able to do this in the past!! It’s all thanks to you and your motivational videos!! 😊 Thank you!
