I'd agree having driven one. The V8 is gorgeous. I left it in Sport and let the gearbox do the work. Rapid off the line. Very satisfying. Back in 2005+ you can't find other Mercedes that looks so exotic like this one. Of course with $15K you can get: Audi S8 BMW M3, M5, M6, X5M, X6M, Maserati And so many other performance cars.

Such a cool car, entirely let down by Mercedes' pathetic 7AT. When Matt took off in the beginning of the piece, it sounded like we was driving a manual...very casually...because it shifts sooooooooooooooooooo slowly.
trust me, the five speeds are even worse (I had an '02 CLK 500). They won't keep their gear in manual mode and will only allow you to shift manually when IT thinks it's OK. Very frustrating. Luckily a manual swap is not that that difficult, as explained in the CLK 430 One Take.
This is accurate. I have one and love the car really but my biggest gripe is the shift speed is too slow for the engine power and overall driving experience.
8:00 funny you mention the redline issue... Not just AMG's had it, even my 2002 CLK430 would do the same damn thing and it's so annoying. And with how slowly the 722.6 5GTronic transmission is to respond, I have to always remember to "shift" (more like request a shift) at about 5500 rpm so it'll shift just before it touches redline. Also my girlfriend has a 2008 SLK55 AMG... That thing is incredible on the highway. With the top down, there's literally no wind in the cabin if you roll the windows up. $16,000 for my 2006 with 70,000 miles. I have dusted vettes, Boxters, and M3s no problem. 165 mph and let off it. No squeaks or sounds from the hard top. Incorrectly stated at the 8:05 mark, if the redline is hit, the TCU will automatically shift the trans. to protect the engine, not "die" as stated, this is in both auto mode and manual shift mode. I've owned my .06 E55 since almost new, so can speak to this.

My dads 2010 camaro ss did that. Red line in manual-auto mode and it would buck until you shifted. It did it right before redline so it catches you off guard

Zebpro 355-375 (depending on year model) but loads of torque depending on year model. The slk55 will keep up with a stock MY2012-15 coyote mustang. The newer SLK55 makes around 410

errorcode99 pretty weak. Probably between 30 - 40
3/10
Jeez Matt, the guy looks like he is about to faint.
My dads 2010 camaro ss did that. Red line in manual-auto mode and it would buck until you shifted. It did it right before redline so it catches you off guard
I love how this car looks but I'd take a 2008 z4m coupe all day over this. One of the best pure analog BMW M cars ever! So hard to find, and really damn expensive for a clean one.
I just sold an 06z4m in February. it was such a fun car. I may get another one or a similar roadster like this or a boxster s
@@mikenice1204 yeah I've been in love with that z4m since it first came out almost 15 years ago. Apparently more of a pure smile inducing hammer of a sports car as opposed to the boxster s which is apparently more of a scalpel. Both amazing cars. Can't go wrong either way. If I may ask though, how many miles did your z4m have while you had it, and was it reasonably reliable in terms of repairs?
@@Daveyboy_RS3 I only owned it for 1 yr. it had 120k miles on it. was in surprisingly good shape. I replaced the plugs/coils alomg with other fluids. it ran great. then I sold it when I got an 08 gated r8 coupe
@@mikenice1204 I was about to ask why you would get rid of it and now I can understand the upgrade. From the one time I drove it, the R8 is about as perfect a daily supercar as It gets. Thanks for the reply
not sure about the reliability of the Z4M but the only thing missing from the SLK is a 6 speed manual and over the last couple of years things have become easier and there as been tons of manual swaps, it really does this car justice
Eurocharged kills it with their flashes and tunes. if you own a Mercedes and want to make more power, I highly recommend.
Absolutely, Eurocharged tunes are a must for Mercedes. Really woke up my W210 E55.
two black wheels - two silver wheels?
-when you run out of plasti dip but Matt won’t care.. so fock-it-doood
This guy be driving all these youngsters cars HARD! And they be so nervous lol. He be low key talking shit about there cars to I seen the one when he test drove the mustang he was talking shit about the kids V6 lol
I bet he works at a salon called "A Cut Above" or, "Fringe Benefits"...all jokes aside if it shifted a little quicker this thing would be a little beast. Great deal for an AMG these days
"You don't see these around a lot" yeah for a good reason ....
Al Denino because people like you couldn't afford them.
shut up you stupid son of a bitch
Evin Herzberg lol nothing special about a car that is so bad it depreciates to 10% of its original value within years. Anyone can buy an auto 2nd hand Merc, but most are smart enough not to.
I was actually looking at buying this car a couple of years ago. Then I drove the S2K and realized that you get more of an experience from a 4cyl manual Honda than a SLK55AMG.
I doubt that brother... I live with SLK55... S2k doesnt compare
Absolute bullshit! I’ve had both and the slk55 is in a different league!
nothing but the best for this young man great choice
Dragonflyy 65 thanks for the love!
a manual swap and coilovers would go a loooong way for this car
"It HAD to be a mercedes" You just cut yourself out of a lot of other amazing cars.
maxxjett films i hate people like this. There are SO many beautiful looking, driving, and comfortable cars out there and they lock themselves to one brand. Sad.
He's clearly happy with this car so what's the problem?
maxxjett films better than a civic
5.5 litre v8 in that litlle smart car looking mercedes that thing looks nice and is a rocket
Any examples? And please don't say Subaru, this is a Mercedes, people love them for a reason.
"leather on leather behind me" sounds naughty
Cool guy cool car
Freestyle from the 6 thanks for the love
It’s weird hearing that beastly sound coming from such a girly looking car
Honald Trinton Lol. I know right.
Arthur Kitchen hahahah wtf?
Yeah, but it's like the SLR McLaren's baby sister. It's not a bad looking car, but it's definitely a little girly looking.
The whole "engine dying at redline" thingy may have been sorted out with the euroflash tune....
Can you send me a link
If I had one of these. The first thing I would do is start trans mods. Get a tune for the TCU (transmission control unit).
Alex Dc Eurocharged has not made one for this 7 speed yet, only for the 5-6 speeds. This is the quickest transmission of them all though
Anyone notice the hanging interior panel at the bottom right of the screen at 1:02, defintely built when chrysler owned Mercedes.
Pibbles 'n Bits was doing some wiring, didn't put the last two clips on
My teacher's kid got this , well that's what you got if your father is scientist
Whats up with the halfzies wheels? Love those slk's though.
Wow, 335HP from a 5.5L V8, that's exciting.....
Zebpro 355
Zebpro 355-375 (depending on year model) but loads of torque depending on year model. The slk55 will keep up with a stock MY2012-15 coyote mustang. The newer SLK55 makes around 410
It sounds great! What exhaust setup?
love that car
Daaahmmm daniel
Everyone talks about the 986 / 987 being great bargains, I think the R171 SLK55 or SLK350 are even greater bargains.
I love your podcast
My 02 e430 would bog too. And you gotta stomp on it in auto mode so it holds gears for a while.
That a Weiss you’re rocking? Nice
If paying attention someone can hear a lot of creaking sounds in the cabin. Do they come from the roof, or what is that? I wouldn’t expect such sounds in a Mercedes...
Yùe Gèn that's the leather on leather from Matt's seat being all the way back
Sometimes internet people is annoying and immature as fuck, I always loved that car. One of my dreams of coming to the US is being able to buy a slk 55 amg or a Z4M
Andres Ramirez those z4 m's are very impressive too
I'm more of a 1994 Caravan kind of guy
Cool guy, good-looking car but I'm sorry to say the C63 would have been a better choice. Also, what's up with the alloys?
you think if you put a voltage booster for throttle and trans response it’ll help with lag?
with those mods hes making close to 400hp...little car must be fun.
She sound good. I've had some time in the base 07 SLK250, and I could definitely see the fun and appeal to that car with a 355hp Growling V8.
TurboShotIncredible is that all? 355? Haha oh jeez
Does your transmission do the same stall at red lines as others?
Matt when are you doing a modded Chevy volt???
355HP out of a 5.5 liter V8. How.
skurt Torque all the way across the rev range and reliability.
its is an impressive number for being naturally aspirated not gonna lie.But 355hp with that size of motor is easy for car manufactures.I mean the lexus rcf and mustang gt have 5.0 and make over 450hp.AMG probly did this easily.
doesit go100 Yep there's a ton more left on the table with that engine for sure. But it's set up as is to last forever and have a very linear power band with plenty of punch down low.
Shawn Carson nice combo to have.Reliability and power.Hopefully the rest of the car is as reliable as the engine lol
doesit go100 Yup. That's why I love my 300C. Same type of deal
Its a dense car.
The diss on that guys camaro was unnecessary
The best of the hairdresser roadsters.
I wonder if these will continue to drop in price 🤔
I bet he gets all the guys in that ride!
Mark Williams I've gotten a few females lol
Daniel Vaystukh ahhhh I knew you'd say it. So sad.
Owner don't seen like he cares for the driving experience. Only seems to care his car is a Mercedes and has a v8.
deagle 44 I think he was probably just a bit nervous
This snoozemobile kinda makes me feel better about the death of the One Take.
Isn't this model still running a recirculating ball bearing steering system? Wasn't the Chrysler variant Crossfire the same platform?
Timboslice cryslers crossfirr was based on the first generation slk
Matt, whats that watch? Really dig it
Damn Daniel
