Yes, my friend. The song is from 54 years ago. There was no such thing as "music videos" at the time, but The Beach Boys were the biggest act in the USA and they were on Capitol Records, so Capitol splurged on "promotional clips" (the precursor to videos) for their songs to play on UK television. This is one of those clips, from 1966. So yes. It's an original video and yes. The song *is* "that old". LOL.
As one of the biggest US acts of the 1960s, there are countless hits you probably half know, like you kinda knew this one. My personal favorites are from around the same time as this song (the mid-60s,) when they stopped singing about surfing all the time and started talking about love and life. But among their early 60s Surf Music hits are "Surfin'" (US#75, 1961), "Surfin' Safari" (US#14, 1962), "Surfin' USA" (US#3, 1963), "Surfer Girl" (US#7, 1963). Around this time, they moved from surfboards to hot rods with songs like "Little Deuce Coupe" (US#15, 1963), "Fun, Fun, Fun" (US#5, 1964), "I Get Around" (US#1, 1964) and its stellar B-side (and one of their all-time best songs), "Don't Worry Baby" (US#24, 1964). There was also a brief pivot to "girl songs" with "Help Me Rhonda" (US#1, 1965) and "Barbara Ann" (US#2, 1965).
With gentle ballads like "Don't Worry Baby" and the earlier track "In My Room" (US#23, 1963), their songwriting and production values began to enter a new dimension, all because of their central musical genius, Brian Wilson. Comparing him to his closest competition, The Beatles, Brian Wilson was basically John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and producer George Martin all rolled into one. The Beatles were in awe of Wilson's songwriting and production genius, and their run of classic LPs leading to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was a testament to this. Especially on the epic Pet Sounds album by The Beach Boys, which is where "Wouldn't It Be Nice?" (US#8, 1966) comes from.
Also check out "California Girls" (US#3, 19965), "Sloop John B" (US#3, 1966), "God Only Knows" (US#39, UK#2 - 1966), "Heroes and Villains" (US#12, 1967), and "Darlin'" (US#19, 1967). Their undeniable masterpiece, though, is "Good Vibrations" (US#1, UK#1 - 1966). It was the first Pop single to work in movements (if not in suites), and despite its accessible melody and groove, was one of the most experimental pieces of music to ever make the Top40 on either side of the pond. I grew up thinking of it as just another surf song, 20 years after it came out. But as an adult, I've learned that there are few trippier or weirder songs to smoke weed and sit back with. It's a shame the song isn't longer, and it wasn't included on any of their albums, but it is truly something to behold.
Actually, Good Vibrations was included on the album "Smiley Smile" in 1967. That album is often maligned for not being "SMiLE", but in its own way, it's a great album, very low key and super experimental.
Thank you for the facts.
Yep but you forgot WIPEOUT talk about twirling or as we used to call it the dirty jerk😂😂😂😂😜😍
@@linnymaemullins3319 No, I didn't forget "Wipe Out". It's a great track, but it was never a hit for The Beach Boys until they covered it in 1987 with Rap act The Fat Boys (US#12, UK#2). It was originally by The Surfaris (US#2, UK#5 - 1963), not The Beach Boys. It was incorporated into their live act during their 1963 tour (as were many contemporary chart hits by other artists, which was customary with Pop acts in the first half of the 1960s), but there was never an official studio recording of "Wipe Out" by The Beach Boys released on Capitol in the 1960s, though a few murky bootlegs have surfaced since the early 1980s. But unless you are talking about the 80s Rap version of "Wipe Out" which featured the Brian Wilson-less Beach Boys on backup vocals, then you are almost certainly thinking of the popular version by The Surfaris, not The Beach Boys.
Dude!! Thanks for all that cool info. ♥
"Surfer Girl", "I Get Around", "Help Me Rhonda", "Fun, Fun, Fun", "Good Vibrations" ... too many to list.
"Help Me Rhonda" FTW!
Especially Help Me Rhonda. It came out the year I was born.
My grandma loves Help me Rhonda since it came out when she was in high-school and her name is Rhonda hahaha
💯❣️
Wendy, Little Deuce Coupe, Forever,
It's the real video. It's clips of home movie type stuff they did playing around during the time.
I was thinking it looked like a home movie from that time period.
So many had super8's back then. We just had my husband's super8 film reels found in an attic converted to dvd, so hysterical.
Mr. V, sometime if you'd like to learn some very interesting facts about the Beach Boys, research Brian Wilson, he is such a above average composer like MJ was, they are so advanced as artists go, like their own realm of existence and they are kind enough to share a glimpse with us through their music. When you are highly respected musically by other musicians that's saying something right there.
@Roberta Sirgutz It's so troubling that even the band Barenaked Ladies made a song for him. It's actually good that even Brian Wilson liked it.
It’s really the Sloop John B video tho
You’re a little box of joy!!! You make me howl laughing man!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
🙂🙂🙂🙃
"God Only Knows"
"Good Vibrations"
Definitely "Good Vibrations" for the new headphones! Brian Wilson worked hard to make it a "true stereo" album. Won awards for audio engineering, IIRC.
Definitely God Only Knows!
@@michaelloveland1330 *especially* with those new ear buds. Good Vibrations is the GOAT
Amen! Their two best!
God Only Knows is my wedding song ❤️
"Don't Worry Baby"
"God only knows"
"Don't Talk (put your head on my shoulders)"
There are honestly too many songs to think of
Dennis - surfer
Carl - lover
Al - friend
Mike - business man
Brian - artist
Spot-on.
Carl, kind generous good man.. Brian musical genius..
I loved this! My favorite Beach Boys songs are "Kokomo" and "Don't Worry Baby"
Don't worry baby is phenomenal
I most definitely agree
Kokomo all day!! Pretty much anything from pet shop sounds too
Don't Worry Baby is my favorite too
Kokomo! I forgot about it. Damn always feel like ye chillin on the beach with your girl.
You need to name your reactions "The Chill Factor". Cuz you always get chills and goosebumps. "Welcome to the Chill Factor" HAHA Love it
"Good Vibrations"!! By the beach boys you should listen to next!
Check out “in my room” by The Beach Boys. Different vibe.
OMG, one of the best make-out songs. The harmonies are amazing.
@@colleenmahony8803 that's strange, since it's about hiding in one's room from one's abusive father who deafened you in one ear by hitting you with a 2x4 as a toddler.
But, hey... Mack on, Mahoney
@Scott Matznick I always considered it a mental patient’s song.
A lot of famous musicians loved The Beach Boys, The Bee Gees, The Beatles, even Queen!!! Love the way they harmonized so well. Great band!!! Fun,Fun, Fun!!!!
Lindsay Buckingham and the Ramones also liked the Beach Boys.
"Wouldn't It Be Nice", by The Beach Boys, was released as a single in 1966. This "promotional film clip" (now known as music videos) was cobbled together most likely from home movies made by the band while on the road on tour. In the 1960s, music artists made promotional film clips to be aired in movie theaters, and on variety shows, when the band was unable to appear on television to promote the single, due to tour commitments, or for other reasons. They were also used in Europe and Asia to promote the music artists on various government-owned television networks.
The Beatles made a number of them from 1966 onward, because they did not want to tour and appear on television any more. The Supremes made a promotional film clip for the song, "You Keep Me Hanging On", because they feared performing the song on television would alienate their fan base (it became a hit record for them, nonetheless). You've seen the promotional film clip by The Animals for "House Of The Rising Sun". Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell made a promotional film clip for the song, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", probably because the song reached the "Top 10" in the UK while the both of them were on tour in the USA. It was most likely aired on the "Top Of The Pops" program on BBC in 1967.
You’re an old soul... you remember WhTs good! 😜 that’s the important part!! ❤️Tennessee
How happy you were when it started, so much passion 😂 Love it 🙏
You are a cool person and it's really an uplifting song, even though they sing about marriage lol
“Back in the USSR“ is the Beatles kind of taking off on the Beach Boys’ sound - kind of funny…
Honestly, the songb"God Only Knows" is the most beautiful
Paul McCartney said it’s his favorite ever
It was made in 1966. Yes MORE BEACH BOYS! You will enjoy their upbeat songs.
These harmonies are crazy good. Definitely check out “ God only knows” beautiful song. 🎼🎶🎶😎
Love your videos. You are my favorite. Make sure you don’t work every day give yourself breaks 💗
I take sundays off 🙂🙂🙂

"Don't Worry Baby", "Surfer Girl", and "Sloop John-B" are Beach Boys best songs!
Nice , hotel California
Brian Wilson is a legend
I still listen to them all the time,,, Brian Wilson is a true genius,, his story is fascinating,, GOOD VIBRATIONS TO ALL!!!
This had to be in the 1960's. You have to remember, for all those songs back then that TV was still in black and white. We only had 3 (network) channels, sometimes 4. We didn't have any music videos. We had to listen for our songs on the radio and then go buy the single on smaller 45's wih A&B sides, or the full album. Soon there would be color TV , but music videos were way later. We mostly never saw these videos unti recently (You Tube)
Oh, I'm jus letting you know for your future reactions. Hope you don't mind.
You're awesome! I wait, and look forward to your videos!
Brian Wilson is SOOO talented. The Beetles were blown away by their talent and respected them big time. I had the biggest crush on Dennis Wilson ❤️❤️❤️
"He's Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother. " by The Hollies. Great song!
Hey Samantha, he just did that song 2 days ago. Go to his video selection. It's a good one!! 😀
From the album Pet Sounds, considered one of the greatest albums of all time. This record is the reason why The Beatles were inspired to write St. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band...THE greatest album of all time!
"Good Vibrations" is a classic. Try it, MV, you'll like it.
That was a song that didn't have a custom video. Videos weren't around really, it wasn't until MTV in 1981n that videos became "official." Little Deuce Coupe, 409, I Can Hear Music, Help Me Rhonda, Surfer Girl, In My Room... all great BB songs. Any one of those'll do. Thanks for another review. P.S. Stop blocking pillow.
“Fun, Fun, Fun is a cool groovy one! 🎤🎶”She’ll have fun, fun, fun til her Daddy took the T-bird (a car) away.” 🎤🎶It’s in black and white (I think 🤔) and they are definitely live onstage- They really show some swag in that song. Funky lil song too! “Good vibrations “ is always a Beach Boys must- BTW- do any of my requests even make the list??🧐 lol😠but seriously! 😂PLEASE check it out!! 💛✌️✨
The “switch up” is the bridge of the song.
Is it just me or could Mr. Video be the next great comedian? Somebody needs to sign you. Your humor reminds me of Eddie Murphy, John Candy, Richard Pryor, Cheech & Chong, etc...that generation of amazing comedians. You spot the small things in videos, go off on it and can make us all laugh. Its a wonderful gift. You've truly found your calling. Thank you!
You can't go wrong with ANY Beach Boys song. I love them so much! Met them at Disneyland in the early 2000's when I was 16 and they were so nice and down to earth.
"Don't Worry Baby", "I Get Around" and for fun "Be True to Your School". The Beach Boys are fun and beautiful harmonies. My dad and I tend to sing the beach boys in the car if we ever find ourselves taking a ride somewhere.
Brian Wilson (the guy with the cap on in the video) is widely regarded as the greatest songwriter and producer of the rock-n-roll era (Paul McCartney is among them singing his praises). His song "God Only Knows" in particular is beloved.
There's an amazing film about Brian Wilson (Beach Boy's genius composer, writer, producer and arranger) called Love & Mercy that gives incredible insights into Brian, the band and shows how he arranged the incredible vast interplay of musicians, instruments and harmonies. AND it's just a great film!
1966...when I was a teenager....God I'm feeling old!!
John Roberts I'm nearly as old John! I was 9 in June of 1966! That's makes me quite old! Lol! Take care! And stay safe from Australia!
@@wendyryder2708 Born in London December 1950. Stay safe.
Pet Sounds forever...this song kills me it’s so good and nostalgic
Try "dont worry baby" if you dont get goose bumps I will be shocked 😳
“In my room” by them is absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful harmonies and melody
Hahaha great song! And great reaction 😂👏👏
The world is changing my friends. Brothas from the hood be singing along with The Beach Boys..hahaha...rofl. I couldn't be happier about it.
One of my most favorite songs is by a band called (Faster Pussycat) called “House of pain” ,, The harmonica is amazing the lyrics are outstanding tearjerkers and I promise you will not be disappointed. 💕
Yes! Finally! You have discovered The Beach Boys. Their masterpiece is "Good Vibrations". I've told you about it several times before. Listen to that next. But they have about eleventy bazillion hits. They invented an entire sub-genre of Rock And Roll when Rock itself was just a few years old....Surf Rock. But the leader of the group, Brian Wilson, soon outgrew the teeny bopper hits he was writing and took Pop music in a completely new direction...using instruments that had never been used together in Pop music, writing more sophisticated arrangements and lyrics, exploring new musical ideas. Genius.
I love'em too! You've def heard these as well, I'm sure:
- I get around
- Surfin' USA
- California Dreamin'
They did a song that was co-written by Charles Manson "Never Learn not to Love"
This old lady loves to sit with my herb and watch you learning new music. My husband and I have always taught our kids all generes of music. Our grandkids too. Never quit learning and entertaining us.
Brian Wilson is a genius and many of their recordings are still considered to be among the best audio recordings of all time.
They always had great harmony and unusual melodies and creative ones. And they have a "sound." No one else ever had that "thang."
I wasn't a Beach Boys fan but being older I can appreciate the awesome harmonies that dished up. I also now recognize their attention to detail in the production. I'm not sure about all the other music but I do know that Pet Sounds was revolutionary.
His immediate joyful reaction to the song is my reaction every single time I hear it too lol 😄
You could live in any part of the county and feel like you're at the beach listening to them. Surfing songs and muscle car songs were fun in the sun songs
I can't hear this song without envisioning Adam Sander crying and singing it while piloting a sailboat. Then I laugh hysterically, and if someone is around I don't bother trying to explain it and just let them think I'm crazy.
For your next Beach Boys song, I suggest either "Good Vibrations", "I Get Around", or "Don't Worry Baby".
My favorite movie this song was used was 50 First Dates with Drew Barrymore & Adam Sandler. Lol the way she sings it while painting the wall is so stinkin cute. 🍍❤
I expected to see young people playing volleyball on the beach and flying kites and drinking beer. 😂
Gotta check out "Dead Man's Curve" by Jan and Dean
I just stumbled onto this reaction. Love it!!! This is like when you show a good friend a new song and they are fully amped 😂
Hit send too early...God Only Knows" is the most beautiful song Ever written. Bring a hankie to react.
Beach Boys concerts are great. Everyone knows the words to every song.
“It looks budgety!” Haha! And your reference to Jason, chechehaha!
Was never a big Beach Boys fan, but I had to admire their artistry and longevity. However, even I love this song! This song was beautifully written, produced and recorded. They had a few songs that were SOOOO good ... this being one of them. Those HARMONIES!!!
Brian Wilson is a genius
"Hell yeah it'd be nice, what though?"
Hahahahaha dying
Mr. Video...home sweet home and let's go!! Fire it up!!
Beach Boys songs brightened many peoples days......still do!
Released in 1966! The video is home movie clips of them. The Beach Boys are revered by many musicians!
Bruh. I cant comment on every vid cause it would get redundant but I gotta tell you I love your sh*t man. It gets me through my treadmill run every day. You need to be on a tv show with that personality dawg. Keep it up.
Of all the Beach Boys songs this is my favourite and they made some great music 🎶 but this one just get me dancing 💃🏽 wherever I am even caught myself dancing in a supermarket one day 😳😂😂
You kill me!!! LMFAO!!! thank you for making me laugh my ass off!!!
Beach boys - an escape. 50s 60s paradise vibe.
Yes that is actually film footage the Beach Boys had done to promote a song. Of course, the song wasn't the one it is being shown with, it was Sloop John B, but yes this is a genuine Beach Boys music video.
Back in the dark ages, home movies were filmed with 8mm black & white film. Out of all their hits, this is my favorite. It was used in the film, "50 First Dates", starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. They have great chemistry together. It was their second movie together. The first being, "The Wedding Singer." Both movirs are great because Adam's movies have a tendency to be either hit or miss. ✌
Señor Video, Ooh shit I'm so excited for you to go down this rabbit hole. I grew up with this music playing in my house, it has such a nostalgic feeling that feel like happiness and home. Also Billy Joel is a must too imo.
They started out very straight laced and wearing suits, but toward the end of the 60s they went more toward "acid rock". The songwriter Brian had big time mental health issues and mixed it with ALOT of drugs. It turned out to be some cool music. Check out good vibrations. For its time, it was very technologically advanced.
Thank you, thank you for doing some Beach Boys, who don't get nearly enough love and respect. Brian Wilson is a god.
Your finding out you know more diverse music than you thought. Your sofa dancing is the best.
Brian Wilson is a genius, most underrated musician of all time. Incredible the instruments he combined in the studio, written out on paper it look like kiddie cartoon but once he was allowed to just go for it he turned out to be incredible. In 50 years they gonna look back at this youtube and say it looks budgety. French horns, mandolin opening, all kinds of wild stuff who does that?
My Fav Brian Wilson song "Good Vibrations" "God only knows" close 2nd...people just didn't write music like that then, he was so brave! Those stiff ass record producers in the 60's almost didn't let Brian spread his wings....Brian Wilson was labeled weird at best, but thank God someone let him loose in the studio. Just think of it, 20 30 40 orchestral pieces in the studio all doing different things that sounded weird AF until it all came together. That is called genius. see/hear what others don't.
The Beatles “Strawberry Fields Forever” is pretty much mandatory now!!!✌️💗😊
I’m not a huge Beach Boys fan but “Pet Sounds” is probably one of the most influential albums of all time
This brings me so much joy!!
I love it "Its budgety" you always make me laugh. Thank you Leo.
“ This was called a ‘promotional music film’. The term videotape and thus music video had not been invented yet. This is either regular 8mm or possibly Super 8mm home movie footage collaged together into a promotional film in 1966. It is also possible that it was shot in 16mm but certainly not 35mm.”
This was from their Album Pet Sounds that was inspired by Rubber Soul by The Beatles. It was a turning point because it was the first Album they did where they didn't wear the Striped Shirts. You may have heard it on The Wonder Years. This Album would later inspire Sergeant Pepper by The Beatles.
6:27..the classic brian wilson slow down and into the big finish. thanks for sticking with. American pop royalty
Great reaction, I like that you're honest about the video. Another one of their songs you might have heard of, cuz it's that popular, is California Girls. It's another upbeat song.
That California sound! I was just a tween, but I'd listen to this on my tiny transistor radio I got for Christmas.
I doubt the video too lol but i never doubt your reactions! i always look forward for them vids. More power brother
You dance good and sing even better. BRAVO.!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
They didn't start making "videos' until the mid 80s...this is probably compiled clips. The beach boys were very popular as surfer music....you'll recognize their vibe in all their songs.
Right and in the 80s their best song wasn’t Kokomo he needs to react to that one! Number one hit for rhem
Thanks for making me laugh during this time. I am a health care worker and your reactions help me laugh after a hard day at work
It’s the 60s! Only movie production companies had movie cameras. This is very simple. But the song is so sweet. About a boy and girl in love and dreaming about getting married. How quaint by today’s standards of shacking up after the first date. The Beach Boys were about their time and place. 60s, California, the beach.
The switch up part of the song is called the bridge. Love it too.
You’re so much fun bro! Keep it up. You make our days a little easier. 👍🏽
this is the real video. its just that it was made in the 60s before every song made had a video. there was no MTV. they just put in video clips of themselves having fun. not a huge production. MTV came about 20 years after this. check out "Little Deuce Coupe" by these guys. one of my favorites. saw these guys in concert twice once in 1988 and again in 1989. awesome shows. love your reactions keep em coming.
There was no MTV until 80’s, the music videos from that era were done years after release of songs or were live performances.
This was the sixties bro, there were no videos. They made these on a lark and to show people. These are all their ideas no help of direction, or little direction. I appreciate you and thank you.
Love watching you react to these old school videos! Thank You!
Speaking of Beach Boys, Charles Manson wanted to be a Beach Boys member. He actually knows them personally (they almost became the member of his family) and even wrote a song for them.
