The end of this, where Moana uses compassion to address the goddess's trauma instead of responding with violence, oh, man, it makes me tear up every time.
As soon as i realized that Te Kah is Te Feti, I can suddenly sense sadness and desperation in her howls and screams which, before the reveal, only sounded monstrous and otherworldly. This movie is so beautiful and definitely one of the best movies disney has to offer.
Fun fact about newborn turtles: a big thing that's always made clear is that if you're going to help them find the water, you absolutely cannot carry them there. They have to find it on their own. The scene at the beginning is essentially how Moanas journey ends up going out on the ocean. She may have been pointed in the right direction, but ultimately she had to do it on her own.
@@thechatteringclown They imprint on the sand where hatched. Oils from your skin can interfere with their imprinting process. If you grip them too hard you could break the white dot on their belly which holds three days worth of food.

Fun fact: Moana's voice actress was 15 when filming this. So the acting and the singing from Moana was done by a fifteen year old girl. A fifteen year old girl hit those notes lol.
That's not really surprising, have you never seen 10+ year old kids having such beautiful voices? Little boys having great range since they haven't reach they're puberty
Fun fact, the chicken, Hei Hei, is voiced by the absolute legend Alan Tudyk. Classically trained actor, went to Julliard, and Disney had him voice a chicken.
Alan Tudyk has voiced something in every Disney ever since Wreck-It Ralph. Good luck charm worked till the last one The Strange World, that seems to be first huge miss in Disney since Treasure Planet (which I thought was much better than movies that came after that till Princess and Frog)
The grandma is one of my all-time favorite characters. She is so well portrayed. It is my, personal, head canon that the reason that the Grandma knew so much about the heart and the ocean was that the ocean offered her the heart, as a child, as well, and she turned it down to stay with her people and she always regretted it. That was why she understood the significance of the ocean offering it to Moana and why she kept the heart and tried to prepare Moana for what she needed to do. And that would be why she was, immediately, came back as a manta and was Moana's guide. It could even be that her Father was given the chance as well, and is why his friend died. If you notice, when Moana showed him the heart there was no surprise in his eyes at all. It made him madder.
This movie centers around Polynesian beliefs. I grew up in Hawaii and from a young age, we were taught all about the different Gods and Goddesses. It is actually very interesting and I would honestly recommend checking out some traditional Polynesian stories. We also were taught how to make canoes and how to read the stars. I really love that my school was really dedicated to teaching us our culture.
I love the Hawaiian culture and beliefs , learning about each cultures God and Goddess is interesting tho I’m Christian and believe in one God . I just find it cool and always want to keep learning .
Ever notice grandma was always there. When Moana found the Heart grandma was in the bushes keeping an eye on her keeping the Heart for years until she was ready. When she first tried to sail beyond the reef and got caught in the coral grandma was there. When Moana was at her lowest and had failed, grandma was there to give her inspiration. She let Moana explore the world, kept an eye on her from afar but stepped in when she was needed. Grandma is the GOAT.
Thank you Maui, for fishing up the North Island on New Zealand! And for giving us fire. And for slowing down the sun, giving us longer days *edit* His hook wasn't 'made' by the gods, Maui took the jawbone of his grandmother and made the hook out of that. He's generally seen as a benevolent 'trickster' god. Always taking shortcuts and putting himself first, but still managing to get a good result for those around him...mostly
This is my favourite Disney movie of all time, probably my second favourite animated movie overall after Into the Spiderverse. "You're welcome" is an aboslute banger but so are most of the songs in this film, they all give me chills. Fun fact: The Rock started singing along to "You're Welcome" when he took his kids to see it and they shushed him so he wouldn't spoil the movie :)
Absolutely fantastic movie and we have the magic Lin-Manuel Miranda (Encanto, Hamilton, In the Heights) to thank for the soundtrack. If you have not watched Hamilton, then I would absolutely recommend that for a reaction. In terms of Disney, then Frozen and Frozen II are essential - I prefer the latter but I’m aware that’s controversial. And with regard to Dwayne Johnson, I love his movie San Andreas; one of my very favourites. Keep up the great reactions and thank you!
The soundtrack for Moana wasn’t all Lin Manuel I love him though. However, the overall research Disney did involved Pacific Islanders, which is our culture that the movie Moana is based on. Opetaia Foa’i a music legend in the Pacific Islands had a massive input with the songs and soundtrack of the movie. He leads a music group called Te Vaka who have been active for years. The song in the very beginning of the movie called Tulou Tagaloa was written and composed by Opetaia sung by Te Vaka and other songs that aren’t in English were by Tevaka, like the song “Logo Te Pate” that’s played during the time Maui and Moana were training, and the song “Loimata e matagi” that was played when baby Moana was playing with ocean when the heart first appeared. Opetaia also voiced the chief that starts the song “We know the way” that started and sung in Pacific island languages. Also, another musical legend named Igelese Ete in the Pacific Islands lead a Fijian group that sung background voices that’s played during the time when Te Fiti’s heart was restored. Also the background at 8:35 of this video 🥰🫶🏽 but indeed Lin Manuel is a genius
Definitely my favourite of the traditional "Disney Princess-Style" movies. And yes the music in this one is pretty much unparalleled. "You're Welcome" is awesome but "How Far I'll Go" is The One (gives me chills every time). 👍❤
I thought Lin-Manuel Miranda couldn't outdone himself after Moana and Hamilton, and then he gave us Encanto and the wonderful "We don't talk about Bruno". Man is a lyrical genius ✨
“She’s like ‘my work is done. I can now become a stingray’” sigh..little did you know her work was indeed done 😭 lol You’re teary you’re happy for grandma for becoming one like she dreamed she would 🥲
If I recall, the line "The chicken lives!" was a reference to a point in development when they planned to scrap the chicken from the movie. After a board meeting they decided to keep it, and someone exclaimed "The chicken lives!", and people thought it was funny so they decided to add it to the actual movie.
Gotta do Onward as well. Onward and Big Hero 6 are my top two animated ones. Moana is up there too, but I like Onward more. Also fun fact.. The chicken is "voiced" by Alan Tudyk, the same guy that played the robot from Rogue One. He's in a bunch of random disney movies and you can never tell that it's him. Rogue One is the closest to his actual voice. I watched an interview with Dwayne Johnson a while back where he talked about doing the singing. Sounded like they didn't even know he could sing before casting him but he absolutely loves karaoke so he was pretty stoked. A lot of the time the voice actor and the singer are different people, but he did both.

9:35 Those are called Hype Tears. I get them every time I watch Goku turn SSJ3. When something is so cool and the only emotion your body can muster out is tears.
2:37 Since the dawn of life itself, that is from the genetic and cellular level all the way through to neurology and self-awareness, our instincts have evolved to develop an affinity for water-rich environments. The reason any animal is attracted to shiny, glimmering things is because fresh water is the original shiny, glimmering object. Waves at the seashore are the original ASMR. Everything within our being is less stressed when we're near big water, as we're more than half built of that stuff and it keeps evaporating.
I think you should watch classic Disney movies if you haven't already. The princess ones are pure nostalgia for me. You should also watch The Wizard of Oz if you haven't yet. It is so good. By the way, keep up the good work bro.
I loved this movie when I first saw it and thought it was beautiful. Then my nephew was born with a heart defect and needed a transplant. He loved Moana, so it became more than just a movie to me - it was an extension of him. I used to sing Know Who You Are, especially the words "They have stolen the heart from inside you, but this does not define you" to him. Unfortunately he passed away at 1 year old and watching Moana is hard sometimes - it's part of him though so I still get through it.

from what i remember being told as a kid , a lot of what the rock sang in the song “your welcome” , maui actually did… like catching the sun with his hook along with forming the hawaiian island chain
My grandson loved this movie from around ages 6 months to 2 years. Then he decided it was scary. We used to watch it all the time and now he never wants to. It miss watching it with him so much.
Seb, you'd probably enjoy The Rock in one of his early films "Rumble in the Jungle" with Sean William Scott (Stiffler from American Pie) - It's really fun!
Kid, honestly I could go on and on I could explain every natural phenomenon The tide, the grass, the ground Oh, that was Maui just messing around I killed an eel I buried its guts Sprouted a tree, now you got coconuts What's the lesson? The way they made the big, bad monster the devolved version of the mother island (islands start out as lava erupted out of underwater volcanoes that cools and eventually makes its way to the surface, I believe I have my science right there) hit me like a ton of bricks when I first realized it. Like of course they had a source of magic to restore her life force, but still, there was thought put behind that creation myth.
One of the first things I bought upon becoming an adult and starting to have my own money is a giant Pua plush (the pig). It's exactly the kind of thing my parents never would have let me buy. He's adorable, very soft, and about a foot and a half tall. I love him dearly
neat detail: Te'Fiti as Te'Ka still has the power of creation. Lava flowing into the ocean will create new islands over enough time. But without the heart the power is destructive
I haven't seen anyone watching the little end credit scene with the crab before and it's in fact a really cool reference to the Little Mermaid with Sebastian and his Under the Sea song !
The shiny crab telling “If I was Sebastian and have a cool Jamaican accent you totally helped me.” He was referring to Sebastian a crab, Ariel’s father’s advisor from The Little Mermaid 😂 It so coincidence also that your name is Sebastian as well lmao
Wait, you haven't seen Frozen yet?! Definitely watch those! I like the second one even more than the first, and the first is already an amazing movie. Looking forward to future reactions!
So Maui was just released as a playable god in the game Smite, and his in-game sound clip when you say "You're welcome" is: "Hey, come on... you know!" lol

The end of this, where Moana uses compassion to address the goddess's trauma instead of responding with violence, oh, man, it makes me tear up every time.
Agreed! I love that whole scene so much.
Me too!
Absolutely. I have an adopted daughter who has a lot of trauma induced outbursts and we use this scene frequently to illustrate to her about emotions.
I've only ever cried in a few movies, and this would never take this movie for a movie to cry about
I didn't let anyone see but I teared up real quick when Moana was singing directly to Te Ka. 💔

When you said "it sounds like a Bowie one" as soon as Shiny started playing when Bowie literally recorded a demo for it before he passed away
Shout out to the legendary Lin Manuel Miranda for the soundtrack!
Does the song "Shiney" that the crab sings give anyone else David Bowie vibes? RIP David Bowie.❤️
you should def watch Meet The Robinsons. its not a classic disney movie but it is severely underrated
One of the first things I bought upon becoming an adult and starting to have my own money is a giant Pua plush (the pig). It's exactly the kind of thing my parents never would have let me buy. He's adorable, very soft, and about a foot and a half tall. I love him dearly
as you shouldd👏
Sooner or later seb would have watched every movie in existence
Great video btw 👍
neat detail: Te'Fiti as Te'Ka still has the power of creation. Lava flowing into the ocean will create new islands over enough time. But without the heart the power is destructive
Moana has by far the best Disney soundtrack
I love this movie and I love your channel
is this a real place? Yeah, sorta. Moana's island is fictional but it's based on Polynesian locations and culture like those of Hawaii, Tahiti, etc.
I haven't seen anyone watching the little end credit scene with the crab before and it's in fact a really cool reference to the Little Mermaid with Sebastian and his Under the Sea song !
U gotta try Brave. It’s really fun and has a good story about family
the last bit with the shiny guy was a reference to Sebastian in the little mermaid
The shiny crab telling “If I was Sebastian and have a cool Jamaican accent you totally helped me.” He was referring to Sebastian a crab, Ariel’s father’s advisor from The Little Mermaid 😂 It so coincidence also that your name is Sebastian as well lmao
much love from New Zealand
Oh my gosh, I can not tell you seb how long I have waited for this video
Wait, you haven't seen Frozen yet?! Definitely watch those! I like the second one even more than the first, and the first is already an amazing movie. Looking forward to future reactions!
So Maui was just released as a playable god in the game Smite, and his in-game sound clip when you say "You're welcome" is: "Hey, come on... you know!" lol
20:05 it will make sense once you see frozen but the reindeer when Maui tries to be a hawk he turns into the reindeer from Frozen
21:21 "Chicken Feet? Oh, a Shark... bottom. He is like a mermaid. A... Mer-Shark. A Mark...?" 😂😂
My grandma cried in the movie theater when she watched this because she said it looked sm like home (Samoa)😭great now I miss her🥹
the cockerel was voiced by the always wonderful Alan Tudyk which just makes me love it even more >
Tangled is still my favorite Disney princess movie, but this is a close second.
