Fun fact: while Tangled is set in 1780 (18/19th century), Gothel's dress is actually a renaissance-styled dress that women used to wear in medieval times (around the 15th century). And in the Mother Knows Best song, she also mentions "The Plague" (the Black Death) as one of the dangers of the outside world. This is meant to emphasize how old she actually is.
There was actually a round table meeting where all the female animators and producers sat down and discussed everything they found attractive in a man. It was called the "hot man meeting"!
Whenever Mother Gothel shows Rapunzel any affection, she's actually showing it to her hair. Like kissing the top of her head. In contrast, when Eugene does the same, he pushes her hair away from her face.
The "flashback scene" was her realizing the kingdom's symbol was in all her art. It's there unintentionally because she subconsciously remembers the symbol.
I cry every time as soon as they show the king and queen. Thinking about the heartbreak they've endured for 18 years gets me every time, then the lantern they set off reaching her, I can't 😭
Maximus gives Rapunzel a look up and down at their first meeting, recognizes her as the princess and follows her orders accordingly. He was raised in the kingdom surrounded by paintings of her as a child and knows the story (bc animals are like people in disney. He cares about the lost princess which is why he tried so hard to get the crown back.
Idk if someone's already pointed this out, but the scene where Rapunzel's looking at the little flag then her paintings is when she realized that one of the first things she's seen (the sun symbol) has been embedded so well in her brain that she subconsciously included it in her works.
I love the message behind the scene of Repunzal grabbing Gothels arm. She’s always been strong than her “mother” but because of all the abuse she never felt strong enough.
You know the animators when full out when neither the King or Queen have any lines, but you know EXACTLY what they're thinking! Just from their facial expressions! ETA: Rapunzel had never seen the symbol of Corona (the sun), yet she had subconsciously incorporated it into the negative space of her paintings around her room!
@@IChooseJesus9091 I misspoke. Rapunzel THINKS she's never seen Corona, or its crest. But it was prominently embroidered on the mobile over her crib, as her parents watched over her. Not discounting your DNA claim, but I think the flashback we see spells it out quite nicely!
I was in high school when this movie came out. I was watching a movie with my best friend at his house when his mom made him go with his little sister to see the new Disney princess movie. They invited me along. My friend and I weren't happy about it but I went with him because, well that's what friends do. Anyways, he had gotten freaked out, so we went with the younger siblings of the group to go see frozen. I was a little bummed at first, especially after I sat down in the front row and someone behind me spilled their drink over my feet, but damn was that movie amazing. Went back a week later with my family to watch it a second time.
Great reaction. 2:50 when you talk about the lockdown, the Kingdom is called Corona! Incredible coincidence given it was all about staying inside. Defo think that Florence Pugh would be a brilliant live action Rapunzel, with the actors who play the animated Rapunzel and Flynn as the King and Queen
I think the kingdom is named corona because one of the outer crust of the actual sun is named corona (but I'm not sure, I think I read it somewhere long time ago...)
Yes! I’ve been saying the same thing about Florence. She’d be a great Rapunzel. I don’t know who I’d cast as Flynn though(Maybe Ben Barnes). Zachary Levi would’ve been perfect(again), but he’s a bit too old now
A small detail is that the King and Queen's lantern has the kingdom's symbol on it (the sun), it seems to be the only one with it while the others are quite plain and it's purpose is to bring her home, and well it did its job! 0:53 "is this in the original tale" It probably wasn't the original, but I had a version of Rapunzel that had Gothel have a garden, and when Rapunzel's mother was ill, her dad climbed into the garden for herbs which made her better. When he eventually got caught, they have to promise to give Gothel their first born. Gothel then put Rapunzel in the tower, and eventually finds she was trying to escape and cuts her hair and makes her go away. Gothel then tricks the prince into climbing the tower then pushes him out the window where he falls into rose bushes and gets blinded. He then finds Rapunzel.
this is literally my favorite disney movie ever, i dont get why its so underrated cause to me the stoyline, the songs, the build up and the jokes are better than any other disney movie. My favorite part is definitely when she heals flynn cause its when we realize that her power is within her, not only in her hair. Also her love for him evolved her power, you can see that it was more powerful than ever when she heals him
@@RedRoseSeptember22 cause people dont really talk abt this movie when the topic is "best disney movies", people usually say frozen, moana and now encanto, but they never mention tangled so yeah to me its underrated
Ahh, my favourite Disney animation of the digital era. SO undeservedly overshadowed by Frozen and I don't understand why, unless if it's just because 'Let It Go' became a pop hit song. It's a great song, but I'll take 'I See the Light' over it any day, as well as 'When Will My Life Begin' over 'Do You Want to Build a Snowman' AND 'For the First Time in Forever'.
This movie is really amazing. But, you MUST watch "The Emperor's New Groove", in my opinion it is the funniest Disney movie, but very underrated. Give it a try, I'm sure you'll love it!!
I love Emperor’s New Groove, it’s hilarious 😂😂 and omg Brother Bear is so underrated too, it’s amazing, I want the wolf totem necklace in real life so badly
The actress who voiced Mother Gothel, Donna Murphy, has done a ton of broadway and is an incredible actress. The has also been in a lot of movies. She was Doc Ock’s wife in one of the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man monies, and she was in Star Trek Insurrection. She is currently Mrs Astor in the Gilded Age.
This came out when I was in high school, but it’s one of my favorites of the “new” Disney animations. Although it’s a creepy song in context, I enjoy the “Mother Knows Best” reprisal. I also like Flynn’s sarcasm annoyance, particularly in the beginning when he’s just trying to get rid of Rapunzel.
The tangled title song they play towards the beginning is so good and so memorable! I catch myself literally just humming it randomly and I haven’t seen the film in like 6 or 7 years
The way they portrayed mother gothel was so well done 1) from the audience’s perspective it’s obvious all her little comments was gaslighting.. but to someone inside of the situation it might be difficult to see that 2) all of the times she expressed affection to Rapunzel she touched her hair, showing what really mattered to her 3) finally, everyone knows she’s a bad guy from the beginning obvi, but she’s still an enjoyable villain because she has a weird charisma to her (which is necessary for Disney villains)

This is one of my favorite Disney movie, such a great version of Rapunzel. All the song are beautiful, the characters are lovable and funny. Great reaction Seb, want more Disney movie reaction please 🥺🥺🥺
There is a flower in the "original" tale but it doesn't have magical powers like that. Rapunzels parents are commoners and while her mom was pregnant had a craving for "rampion bellflowers" (earlier versions of the tale its parsley) which is called "Rapunzel" in German. They lived next to a witch who grew some in her garden so the husband stole it and made it into a salad. The witch finds out and makes a deal with the husband that he will give her his daughter in exchange for more of the plant. She does have healing tears at the end tho, because the prince is blinded, but it's never said the magic tears came from the flower, it's more like a generic fairy tale trope with no explanation. There's also an earlier Italian version of the story where Petrosinella (Rapunzels name in this version) uses magic to escape and fight the witch. The Brothers Grimm are never the originals, they just wrote down existing stories and folklore, and in a lot of cases they added some of the "grim" parts to the stories. With Rapunzel the Grimms believed the story was of German origin which is why they made the changes to their version that they did, but they were incorrect. The earliest known version of the story is that Italian version mentioned before but the earliest know story about a princess locked in a town and a prince having to climb her hair is Persian. Anyways to end this long essay off it's believed the tale originated as various myths (Baltic, Greek, Irish, etc) where a sun/dawn goddess is locked in a tower. Disney took the flower from the more recent versions and brought back some of the sun goddess inspirations to make the version of the story in this movie.
You should not be surprised that Eugene cut her hair before she could heal him. She had promised Gothel she would go with her if she let her heal him, and from earlier in the film, Rapunzel tells Eugene that she never ever breaks a promise. He had no choice if he wanted to save Rapunzel from a lifetime with Gothel.
Love your commentaries! If you’re looking for another animated movie, you should give Spirit: stallion of the Cimarron a go. It’s one of my favourite animated movies of all time, together with httyd :)
You should watch Treasure Planet. This is an incredibly underrated and unknown gem of a disney. It's probably the best disney in terms of production, story, characters etc... In any case that's my favorite imo.
This is not only my favorite Disney movie but my favorite movie in general!! Two fun facts: the old cupid man's name is Shorty, and Eugene's actual birth name is Horace!
You should also check out the little short that was made as a sort of sequel to this, it centers mostly around the characters Pascal and Maximus. You will definitely enjoy it! It’s called “Tangled Ever After.”
Tangled is by far one of the best Disney films. And because of this film, if I ever get a big dog (because I won't ever have a horse), he is definitely being called Maximus!!
Bro i love your reactions aye just watched the endgame one for like the 5th time seeing you cry makes me cry man you make great content mate and your funny as never stop making people smile :)
In regard to your "I don't recall this in the story comments," you were right: this is a largely new story, retaining only the idea of Mother Gothel kidnapping Rapunzel and keeping her in a tower, and a man finding her (and healed by her tears at the end). But in Grimm, she's not a princess and there's nothing magical about her; rather it's a prince who finds her. (And there are further incidents like both kids getting tossed out of the tower, he for interfering and she for getting pregnant, not to mention a whole backstory about her parents, that have obviously been discarded.) This is one of my tip-tip favorite Disney animated films ever. Its only rivals would be Beauty & the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, and Pinocchio. It does just a great job of combining engaging characters, a well-structured story, and great songs. And some of the best voice work ever, especially Zachary Levi (Flynn/Eugene) and Donna Murphy (Mother Gothel).
One of my favorite Disney movies - and, IMO, the most underrated - is Big Hero 6. It's not the "typical" Disney movie (no princesses) and I think you'll love it!
Cupid stole the film. What was your favourite part of this movie?

This is one of my top 3 favorite Disney animated movies, along with Moana and Lilo & Stitch. Big Hero 6 and Zootopia are high up there too.
LOVE THE COSPLAY
Every kids film he’s like “I don’t usually like musicals BUT…” lol
Looking at the title, I mean, Yes? And grass is also green, the secrets just keep piling.
i believe that eugene didn't ask her to heal him because he didn't want his final moments with her to be him using her?
Exacto. Por eso cortó el pelo antes de ser beneficiado por él.
You should also check out the little short that was made as a sort of sequel to this, it centers mostly around the characters Pascal and Maximus. You will definitely enjoy it! It’s called “Tangled Ever After.”
I think you would really enjoy the series!!! It goes more into depth about Rapunzel and her powers, etc. :) This movie is amazing!!!
Your laugh is the best! This one and Treasure planet are the best Disney movies 💕
Tangled is by far one of the best Disney films. And because of this film, if I ever get a big dog (because I won't ever have a horse), he is definitely being called Maximus!!
Mandy Moore did so amazing as Rapunzel in this film. Her voice is perfect as a Disney princess.
Bro i love your reactions aye just watched the endgame one for like the 5th time seeing you cry makes me cry man you make great content mate and your funny as never stop making people smile :)
This movie is soo nostalgic
You should watch The Princess and The Frog next! It's my favorite from Disney right next to Tangled
I think you should watch The Princess and the frog. One of my favourite Disney princess movies and the music is so fun.
(And there are further incidents like both kids getting tossed out of the tower, he for interfering and she for getting pregnant, not to mention a whole backstory about her parents, that have obviously been discarded.)
This is one of my tip-tip favorite Disney animated films ever.
Literally just started and already love it: look at you blondie! 🤣💘
one of the most underrated Disney Movies of all times. I love it. Its one of my favs !
Awesome reaction as always man. Tangled has been my favourite Disney film since I first saw it!
17:28 And here I thought he had strangely not mentioned Chris Envans yet 🤣
The curtain covering Rapunzels mural is made from the same material as Mother Gothels dress, symbolizing her keeping Rapunzel from the outside world.
till this day i *still* have a crush on flynn
This is my favorite Disney Princess movie along with Mulan. You should definitely react to that if you haven’t already
I like how you caught on right away the Gothel gaslights Rapunzel.
As others have already said: You should definitely check out the Before Forever After movie as well as the following animated series.
When the Mother says she loves Rapunzel she actually kisses her hair.😂
This movie instantly became my 3rd favorite Disney movie the moment I saw it. Has the 2 absolute best animal sidekick characters ever.
2:53 ok wow didn’t have to call me out like that 😂
