It's always the Tauros episode that gets talked about for the use of guns, but never the one where Ash got Squirtle. I vividly remember a scene in that episode where Ash went to a store to get a Super Potion because Pikachu was badly hurt, but because the store had just been robbed by Team Rocket before he got there, LITERALLY EVERYONE IN THE STORE POINTED A GUN AT ASH THINKING HE WAS ANOTHER THIEF. There were even some machine guns if I remember right. Ash even said something like "No, I... don't need a new gun..." I guess only the Tauros episode got banned though because the gun thing happened multiple times, while it only happened once in the Squirtle Squad episode? That and I guess because Squirtle had become one of Ash's main team members while the 30 Tauros stayed at Oak's lab, it wouldn't have made sense to not show the origin of a main team member. I dunno.
It also because Ash had guns pointed at him point blank in the face and editing the guns back then would have been tricky and costly and they would have had to redraw characters’ arms instead of simply erasing the guns
Well what if I told you that it was not just the gun pointed at both ash and the audience, but rather, the true reason behind it was that the episode featured Meowth (Nyarth) wearing A Nazi Uniform and has a moustache that made Meowth look EXACTLY like Adolf Hitler, minus the Nazi symbol on it. So personally, the episode was banned because it featured a pokemon that was wearing a NAZI Outfit and looking like Adolf Hitler talking to a safari zone owner, trying to persuade him to tell them where the dragonair/dratini was, similar to how Adolf Hitler would persuade other countries to let him take over certain european countries as to hopefully not start World War II (but that failed and Britain/France ended up going to war with Germany). Not to mention if the episode did air, it would have aired nearly 4 weeks before the Columbine Mass Shooting occurred, causing the episode to be banned for both being Anti-Semitic and racial discriminatory for poking fun at Jewish People and referencing Nazi content in a children's anime, but also references to threats of shooting/killing innocent people and creatures that did nothing wrong to those who actually harmed them in the first place (again, referenced to USA's Mass Shootings, both in high schools AND outside of high schools). So yeah, Episode 35 would have been banned for referencing Nazi Imagery (Germany and Australia would have banned the episode as well, not just US and Canada), but also; Britain, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, China, Korea, Southeast Asia countries, Norway, Sweden, Poland, Finland, Austria, France, Belgium, Czech Republic, and many other nations would have banned it for not only Nazi imagery, but also telling children it's okay to point weapons at others because you're upset with other people, as well as encouraging young children and teens that mass shootings are hip and trendy (like video games for example) and it's okay to attempt assassination on other people you don't like AT ALL or see them as enemies for high school (Virginia Tech Massacre Reference). So Episode 35 would have been very tricky to air in countries where Mass shootings occur, or where Guns have been banned in some nations/territories, as well as the Nazi Imagery in that episode. The other episode that you're mentioning didn't have the guns pointed at the audience (which is evidence considering that pointing a gun at the audience has been seen as outdated, shocking, disturbing, and as an insult to your viewers since 1920).
I had a chance to interview Michael Haigney who did the adaption for the first 4 or 5 seasons. One of the problems was that the Safari Zone episode would have required so many cuts/edits that it wouldn't have been long enough ("Beauty and the Beach" probably nearly fell into that category as well, but was eventually salvaged). Of course, real-world events have probably made the Safari Zone episode even less likely to get a western release now.
@@pokepress That's what I mentioned too. Because not only the episode had guns pointed at the audience AND many others threaten with guns (making it look like it's okay to threaten people with handguns that, in real life, would cause trauma and murder all over the US), but having nazi portrayals in a Pokemon episode pretty much would have banned the episode as well, considering how discriminatory it would be for those in the Jewish religion and such. And not to mention if this episode did air, it would have occurred nearly months prior to the columbine high school shooting, which would have caused some pokemon anime episodes to be outright banned in America and many countries worldwide except Japan and other territories.
The safari zone episode was an example of unsafe firearm handling. I can understand why it got poofed. But the episode where they thought ash was a thief was perfectly reasonable. Except that you don't point a firearm at anything you don't tend to destroy. But it's a TV show, so that one can slide.
As a disabled person, I am a huge instigator of the remote raid pass argument. I have been constantly pestering Niantic (and will continue to do so.) because I am physically unable to drive a car, or go out on my own easily.. raidng is a huge part of the game, and if I’m not able to do it remote, it’s as if I only have half the game.
I’m not physically disabled, but can’t drive yet because my autism makes it sketchier (having a meltdown while operating heavy machinery seems… suboptimal), making me hesitant to learn. So raids are now almost completely inaccessible for me, too. It’s very frustrating to get timed researches that require completing raids, since I know there’s no way to do them in time. :/ Not to mention that the only way to complete anything above level 2 is to use a remote raid pass, since it takes group sizes that just straight up don’t exist in my town.
Same situation. I’m not allowed to have a license in my country as a disabled person and I barely have the ability to move around my own house. Between physical and psych disability I go out in public maybe(?) twice a month? More often none, or once with a horrible result. The app is worthless for people like me without remote options, but now that Switch pokemon games and ACNH both require a subscription I can’t afford in order to use basic social features at all on TOP of an extortionate pricetag, alternative games are my only option. I learned the type chart and some abilities with Showdown but I don’t just want aggressive battling 24/7… I’d like to actually have my own pokemon and engage in more predictable fights. It’s extremely frustrating!
*I can also accept that this game just isn’t made for me, plain and simple…but then I remember that Meltan and Melmetal are ONLY acquired in the main games through Go, and that’s completely unacceptable to me. If they want to make a game that requires activities not everyone is capable of, fine, but hingeing the availability of content in other games on that is inexcusable. Maybe a decorative item or a special effectless berry or something, but not the literal pokemon themselves. My opinion of Go was poor from the beginning but the longer it sticks around, the worse it seems to get. :/
I have to wonder if the gambling issue is the reason why they aren’t releasing the older Pokemon games on the Switch since Nintendo doesn’t have any M rated games on NSO and if they were rereleased, they would have the M rating. There is also the controversy with Pichu bc its anime voice actor did illegal 💊. Ever since her arrest in 2009, Pichu hasn’t had a card and the spiky ear Pichu ending got pulled shortly after with Doche No instead.
My very Christian mom threw away all my pokemon cards (including a base set holo blastoise and charizard) because rumors went around in church that everything with pokemon was somehow the same as worshiping the devil because "God didn't create those creatures" and because of their "evil magical powers"... The release of Pokémon Go in 2016 also caused some significant "victim of success" problems as it sapped the manpower of the company. TCG league supplies were over a month delayed at one point, and the 2016 Worlds had to be closed to the general public with relatively short notice (some folks didn't find out until they got there).
Last year's worlds was somewhat controversial due to the fact that most of the events required you enter a random drawing, with some folks who had booked months in advance whiffing on most or all of them (I got to go to 3 events, which was relatively lucky). They also had to cancel the "Yokohama Open" event (presumably due to space or staffing constraints, though they never gave a precise reason). This might explain why they have yet to announce full details (exact dates) for this year's worlds in Honolulu-they may want to iron out some specifics before giving all the information.
I was there, but I had only driven a few hours (from Madison, WI). I felt really bad for the folks who came from out of the country. To be fair, their more recent events are much better-I went to an event in Vegas last year and it was very well run.
So I’m a Christian, and what I was told growing up about why we weren’t allowed to play Pokémon was because the direct translation of Pokémon is “pocket monster”. That coupled with the concept of evolution and also that you battle them (violence), was essentially the basis for the Pokémon is evil thing. As an adult, I don’t fully agree that it’s straight evil but there are some things that are weird about Pokémon. That being said, I did play Pokémon Go as a teenager and I don’t have strong feelings for or against the game.
Interesting that the Lenora episode was reanimated but the Sun & Moon episode wasn't. Guess the gym battle was more important. Also, kind of suggests that maybe the western branch should be involved/involved earlier in the production of the anime.
i literally paused the video opened a new window went 2 utube started watching other videos & ended up at another video by this channel ill sub thanks 4 the information i started playing pokemon back in gen 3 & came back because of nostalgia
To be honest, until Scarlet and Violet, the performance issues in the games came across to me more as "it'd be nice if they ran better". That said, while I agree with many of the findings of fault for S&V, I can't agree with the tone of much of the online criticism.
Pokemon taught me how to debate because I had to debate with my parents until they stopped caring about Pokemon and got over it. They would talk about how it was violent or had monsters in it and I told them how they had me in the same room as they watched one of the Alien movies and didn't seem to care. At first I genuinely think they never considered the things they were watching to be just as "evil" as Pokemon allegedly was. They were pretty stubborn parents growing up though and wouldn't want to admit they were wrong about things so they'd find different reasons to say it was evil. They eventually started saying how I couldn't watch the show because the MOVIE was satanic and caused a bunch of children to have seizures. Not only were they wrong about the circumstances (It was an episode of the show, not the movie), it's really bizarre looking back and them thinking seizures were satanic. I can't picture my parents ever thinking that these days. It took a bit longer to tell my parents they were wrong since the internet wasn't really available for me at that age. I eventually found out the truth and told them what happened and why, but that was waaay later and past the point of them caring about Pokemon. I'm not sure when or why but at some point I could tell they no longer cared. I could watch the show freely and play my games without hiding them. I think at that point they knew I knew they were wrong but didn't want to admit it verbally so they just kind of pretended to not see until it was just a nothing issue.
I'm not entirely sure how exactly things would or could change to go from the more gambling-esk "gamecorner" to a more arcade-like gamecorner, but I hated voltorb flip, I could never win enough coins to buy all the tms and items I wanted... until I got an action replay and hacked in all those coins 😅😢
It’s not a controversy that targets TPC though. Looking at other series that take Pokemon designs-and other series and small creators that Pokemon has taken designs from-could be its own video but I can how that stuff wouldn’t fit in here

But it's a TV show, so that one can slide.
the whole "Pokemon is satanic" thing was still pretty popular back in the 2010's and its still pretty big in the Christian community
I got yelled at for arguing with a kid about whether pokemon cards were "of the devil"
Not to mention that the only way to complete anything above level 2 is to use a remote raid pass, since it takes group sizes that just straight up don’t exist in my town.
oh is he defending Niantic? yikes. fuck this guy then.
and cool my comment was deleted. awesome, never watching this guy's channel again. ableists deserve the worst.
It backfired since I'm a Nintendo addict now lol
The Lavender town video you did was one of the first videos of yours I watched. :3
This one is pretty nifty, some of them I have heard of. But a lot of them I haven't.
Been watching your channel for the past 2 months and honestly I love it so much just having your videos on in the background while I game or do work, and think ur personality is a great one so keep up the work and I love ur podcast sections at the end of the videos their always so fun too listen too!!!
I cant believe Pokémon was involved in so many dumb controversies🤦♀️
Like I know, some are reasonable like the 20's McDonald's pokeball
True
Saudia Arabia when the Regis and Golurk line are actually based on the Golem: i do not see it
Saudi Arabia when a cat has a coin on its forehead: *_NOW THIS IS AN AVENGERS LEVEL THREAT_*
And their is litterily a pokemon called golem
Ah yes. Good ole satanic panic 😅
That shit started in the 80s, it really knew how to linger eh? Although it's just conservatism, really. Always having to have an enemy!
Man yeah my sister at first was like that and got mad as fuck I bought cards around her kid one summer...but her boys all watched wwe and OHHH my god lol core memory unlocked. I knew at 10 that shit was stupid 😂
Porygon did nothing wrong.
When will "I spend 100 days in Animal Crossing New Leaf" come?
Conspiracies are BS and people should STFU and not watch or play the game/anime, let the fans hv their fun and leave it be.
I thought the "did nothing wrong" meme originated from Berserk.
You know, with the whole Griffith stuff.....
I can’t use the code it worked but I have to pay nearly $10 in shipping….
How else are they going to make money
Last year's worlds was somewhat controversial due to the fact that most of the events required you enter a random drawing, with some folks who had booked months in advance whiffing on most or all of them (I got to go to 3 events, which was relatively lucky). They also had to cancel the "Yokohama Open" event (presumably due to space or staffing constraints, though they never gave a precise reason). This might explain why they have yet to announce full details (exact dates) for this year's worlds in Honolulu-they may want to iron out some specifics before giving all the information.
Pokemon GO fest as much as a disaster as it was, it was hilarious and iconic for this reason.
That being said, I did play Pokémon Go as a teenager and I don’t have strong feelings for or against the game.
meowth wasnt dressed as hitler, he was supposed to be a noir film detective. people were just dumb and jumped to hitler like he owns that ugly stache
However there was a Nazi-looking guy on the old Pokemon Sunday show with Shokotan, part of TiM duo! That show was such a hoot!
Interesting that the Lenora episode was reanimated but the Sun & Moon episode wasn't. Guess the gym battle was more important. Also, kind of suggests that maybe the western branch should be involved/involved earlier in the production of the anime.
The porygon incident is so infamous that the sword art online light novels (at least the English translations) references it ( not in name of course)
i literally paused the video opened a new window went 2 utube started watching other videos & ended up at another video by this channel ill sub thanks 4 the information i started playing pokemon back in gen 3 & came back because of nostalgia
To be honest, until Scarlet and Violet, the performance issues in the games came across to me more as "it'd be nice if they ran better". That said, while I agree with many of the findings of fault for S&V, I can't agree with the tone of much of the online criticism.
porygon suffered injustice, bro deserved better
So true
Me and my family are devoutly christian and me and brother LOVE Pokémon.
Maybe its because I was born in the 2000s but still
What about elf fantasy adventutes. A bootleg pokemon phone app game
IS THAT WHY THOSE BOUNCY BALLS DISCONTINUED?!?!? BC I'VE MISSED THEM

Respectfully - Kind of a very sloppily researched statement around. That isnt how the whole thing went down.
How tf does the German funny mustache man keep coming up?? It's honestly hard to believe it's a coincidence
THE ___ DID NOTHING WRONG MEME CAME FROM W H A T
Thanks
More Animal Crossing videos hmph!
ur videos are good
What about palworld? That is a controversy involving Pokemon.
It’s not a controversy that targets TPC though. Looking at other series that take Pokemon designs-and other series and small creators that Pokemon has taken designs from-could be its own video but I can how that stuff wouldn’t fit in here
@@jasond.b-w actually there is the potential of parents being angry at Palworld for existing and those parents will insist they need to isosiate pokemon with Palworld due to palworld's adult tone.
Something about the title annoys me.
Probably because it's all lowercase
Pokemon are a satanist Tool? Great at least we're having fun 😂
Christians really know 0 about other Religions I guess 😂
