Your videos always make me want to travel! Great work as usual!
Great video again Marcel/Libby. The NT-SF1 sounded great. Seems like a very versatile mic for any kind of ambience recording.
Thank you! You could also up and down mix the recordings with several free available plugins.
That Rode sounds great!!!! wow! Such an awesome video, I've been so happy with my Tascam X8--- internal mics really do sound great, well done!!!! Cheers to you both, awesome video as always!!!
Glad you enjoy the X8! :)
Otro nivel! Uno de los mejores videos por la fotografía. El sonido. TODO!
What a great name for a wildlife microphone - Rode NT. Brilliant!
Your channel is amazing! I'm learning so much about field recording too!
Great to hear that Ben!
Genau... we really enjoy this type of vlogs 👍
The morning ambiance my favorite😊its so relaxing😊
I love this type of Vlog. that little rooster crowing at the beginning of the drone footage was magical. Such a beautiful place. the more recording I do the more I realize i could benefit from 32 bit float. that Tascam X8 looks fantastic but I love my H6. You are going to make me spend more money.
Oh yes the roosters are everywhere here. :) Thank you for watching Bayou.
6:37 Genau! Richtig! So interessant hearing the difference between night morning recordings!
Amazing video, watched so many of your videos this evening. 🎧
Got inspired and bought a field microphone 🎤, bought your all in one bundle and subscribe. 🙏
What an evening down the rabbit hole. 😂
Ha Ha Ha I know that feeling. Thank you so much for watching and your support :))
Beautiful places, incredible sounds. I love the video. You guys are adorable. Hug from Brazil, Marcel and Libby
Thank you Emerson! :))
Love it ! The Tascam x8 in the end.... pwaaa :D crazy...!
Because of you, I ordered one July 2022; and, RØDE sent me an email that it is arriving via FedEx 16-Jan-2023. I purchased it; so, I can record the Blue Angels in 2023.
It’s because of you, I found a brand new appreciation all sounds around me.
Because of you, I also purchased the Zoom F8N Pro, Zoom F6, and Zoom F3 all in one week; and, all three of them work great for my self-tape auditions.
Thank you for your videos and sharing your lives (yours and Libby’s (sp?)) with me. Thank you.
/s/ Alfonso Faustino
Thank you so much Alfonso!! We hope you enjoy all the gear you bought and keep on using it!! :)
I've been watching vlog videos lately and this is way better than those Instagram ready clips fitted with awful techno music.
Thank you! Our intention is to showcase a place (& sounds) and it’s authenticity! Glad you enjoy it.
Genau. 👍🏻
😉
Hi there, love your videos, thank you! Please can you tell me at 5.27 in this video what video camera set up you are using please?
Hi Libby and Marcel, I like the effort you put into making these videos. This one was so relaxing, I'm glad I listened with my headphones on. And the music you used was perfect for your transitions and matched your story. Hahaha, I had to check where you got your music it was so good. The Rode NTSF 1 sounded really good in general. I normally would prefer morning ambient because all the critters are so active. When you recorded, I could hear what sounded like car/truck rumblings. That mic seemed to pick up everything,
Have you made a video or segment talking about how you stay so quite during your recordings? For example, I can't even hear you breathing. I think I would have to try and breath through my mouth vs my nose.
Thank you! Oh normally you don’t stay next to the microphone to avoid such sounds.
I think my eyes created a bias for my ears because the footage over the morning ambience was just GORGEOUS. Thanks as always for sharing :)
Yes it was. I was dreaming of being there
I'm surprised you never tried the sony d100... or did I miss a video? the sony d100 is a legend and i really enjoy using it... simply ultra-robust and good sound. the drone flight with the atmo was really nice!!!!
Yeah I heard great things about it but never got one.
Hi Libby, Hi Marcel,
I found your videos as very interesting and i'd like to ask you a technical aspect.
I see you are using for ambient sound various techniques as Ambisonic, DMS, ORTF.
I wonder if you can define the best situation when you'd prefer to use one type of recording technique over the other one.
Thank you!
Hey, nice videos, I'm slowly learning how to improve the 360 videos that I'm doing. I will need to buy a microphone/recorder soon and I think the H1essential is enough, but I wonder if the H6essential (that is coming in March) would be a better option thinking in the Rode NT-SF1 microphone. My budget is very limited at this time, so I have to think carefully about my next step :). Thank you !!! any tip will be a great help.
Thanks❣️ I like your video concept very much. Why did you choose the Rode over the Sennheiser Ambeo VR mic? (apart from the price) could there be a comparison video in the future? Would be great 😊
Otherwise keep it up 👍
We didn't choose it over the other. It was available when we needed one. Maybe one day we buy it and could make a comparison video.
Just beautiful ambiences! Have you tried the Sennheiser Ambeo? I would be interested in your thoughts between the two.
Not yet Edward
Why do you allways use the ambisonic mics with the F6 and not the mixpre? 😊
Though it is a bit pricey for me as a beginner it sounds great. It looks like you are having a great time on the adventure. Greg
Its a good investment for the long run.
I agree, I bought the Zoom H6 and AKG contact mic a few months ago and a pair of rode M5 so I hope it will be a good start. Once I get a little time out with what I have I plan to move up. Greg
@@gregwilsonnaturephotography Sounds good! The Zoom capsules aren't that bad at all. Happy recording!
You’re buying four (4) high quality microphones. It’s rather cheap and the alternatives are two to three times more expensive. You could buy some Lom mics but you’re sill paying about the same price per capsule
05:05 - Haha, relatable moment for all recordists! 🤣😂 "Oh no!"
Ha Ha yes! I thought I should have come earlier.
❤️
I have this mic but never really got the hang of how to use and edit the recordings.
I also have the zoom f6 and mix pre 6ii which can record ambisonics.
A comparison of these recorder's for recording with this mic would be really nice.
Also how do you esit the recordings down to stereo or ambisonic?
Thanks
Ewan
I wonder how does it compare to a couple EM272 mics from micbooster? They are cheaper and much smaller to carry around. You can also place them apart from each other for a wider sound effect.
The combination of great audio, great video and interesting hosts make for a great way to get a taste of when you are! I have my F6 but I'm still waiting on my NT-SF1, hopefully I get it in time to record audio at the Indianapolis 500 practice sessions. Thanks for sharing!
Oh wow that’s going to be fun :)
brilliant as always. In your opinion is there a reason to even use a stereo mic over say the NTSF 1?
Thank you! The decision between a stereo microphone and an ambisonic microphone depends on the the recording situation and your desired outcome. Both types of microphones have advantages and disadvantages, and it is important to carefully consider the recording's specific needs before making a decision.
As you make your decision, keep in mind the various polar patterns available with stereo microphones. Additionally, you have more flexibility in terms of microphone positioning and the distance between the two microphones when using a stereo microphone setup.
When recording in stereo you typically only need two XLR inputs, as well as either plug-in power or a battery to power the microphone. For a VR microphone, you would need a recorder that can link all four channels, or has ambisonic capabilities. Also you would need extra software to edit and export the recordings.
When it comes to the cost, stereo microphones offer more affordable options for those who want to get started with sound recording.
@@FreeToUseSounds thanks for the thoughtful response and the sonic "Geo-Merkai" filled travels and wisdom you are both sharing.
Hi, thank you for the great work. Your trip is actually a lot like the one i did a few years ago, but for time reasons I was not able to record ambiance & sounds as much as i wanted to. So thanks a lot for that ! Do you know when all of these thailandese sound librairies will be available ? Kob Khun khrap !
Thank you Pierre! I already have a couple on Bandcamp and we also publish the new All In One Bundle 2.0 very soon with these sounds as well.
@@FreeToUseSounds Great, thanks, will definitely check this out
What's your camera? everything looks so sharp
I have that mic and use it for movie soundtracks, but what did you use to decode in post? Sounds like files directly from the recorder, or incorrect channels? Spatially odd.
Just pointing out the brilliantly done music fades in this video. Such great storytelling and production! Loving these videos 🤩
Thank you!
hihi *genauuu* 😊
I really looove that type of content, you literally can feel the surroundings. That fits soo well to your youtube channel!
Danke Dir Florian! :) We keep it up!
สวัสดีครับ sawasdee krub :D 🙏
Have you compared it against the Senheisser Ambeo?
Hi Libby and Marcel, and everyone in the comments! I've started having issues with some self noise from my Zoom H3-VR 360 recorder and my Zoom H1n. I'm not entirely sure how to get rid of it, either during recording or in post. I have the gain of the H3 at only 25-30 and at about 4-6 on the H1n, and it still seems as though I'm getting a lot of extra white noise in the background, which is getting frustrating when I'm trying to record quieter sounds. I'm curious if anyone else has had this problem and if anyone has an idea of how to go about reducing this.
Only thing I can think of is to try and max out the gain and record a few seconds of a room tone to see how much self noise is created, and then make a preset on a noise reduction plugin or EQ plugin. Does that sound at all like it would even work? Or is this something I should probably accept to happen during field recording, especially ambience?
great video! unfortunately the NTSF1 is always unavailable, I'm trying to get it since months !!!
Maybe try getting the Sennheiser. This should be available.
Hi :)
What type of windfurry are you using or would you recommend with the NT-SF1 for outdoor conditions? The one that comes with it seems too lightweight.
Thanks!
Yes, the Rode one does not perform well in heavy winds. You could buy a furry from a Rycote blimp and then go to a tailor to have one tailored for you.
@@FreeToUseSounds Great! Will find myself a furry tailor haha I am also curious if you have advice for either the Mixpre 6 or Zoom F6 for the NT-SF1. I know you have both recorders and have been using the NT-SF1 for a while now. Any thoughts?
Great recordings again! Sound and video! The NT-SF1 sounds so good! I'm really curious about skipping the plan to buy an BP 4025 and get a NT-SF1 instead 'cause I can use it as a "stereo" mic, too. And with the right windprotection and holder it's "just" about 200€ more. I now own the ZOOM F6 and this was a HUGHE step in the right direction! Save travels! Oh! Wait! I have a question: Can you record additionally with other microphones? Let's say 1-4 Ambisonic 5 Monoshotgun 6 Contact mic? Thanxs!
Hello, Rouven! It's definitely something you should think about. It's a good-sounding microphone with a wide variety of mixing option.
@@FreeToUseSounds OH YESSSSS! Das ganze Geld muss weg!!!
Hau es raus :)
The big issue with the mic is the lack of good wind protection. Anything outside of a breeze is a big problem
@@marcelchaloupka Do you use the the one that comes with the Rode? How about a Rycote BabyBall or Baseball with their Windjammer?
Many folks using the Zoom F6 for ambisonic, but, since also you have a Tascam X8, will that record ambisonic format audio correctly with the Rode NT SF1?
Hi John. I use the F6. Sadly the X8 doesn’t work with ambisonic. The H8 does.
@@FreeToUseSounds Thank you for your reply! Your work is so inspiring!
Can the rode nt sf 1 mic be used with the zoom f3?
Hi! The Rode NT-SF1 is an ambisonic microphone that requires four channels.
On the other hand, the Zoom F3 is a field recorder that is equipped with only two XLR inputs (channels). As such, it would not be able to capture the full four-channel recording capability of the Rode NT-SF1.
In order to fully utilize the Rode NT-SF1, you would require a recorder with at least four channels like the Zoom F6.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Mixt Du das Ambisonic vom NT-SF1 zu Stereo down für das Video? Und wenn ja, wie? ;)
Rode hat ein eigenes plugin. Damit kann man die sounds down oder up mixen.
How to use this Rode NTSF 1 mic with the Zoom F3?
Well, the Microphone requires four channels in order to record in ambisonic. F3 has two.
that much I know...any adapters or other options?
@@williamsparkes Just get the F6 then.
Already have the f3. Looking to make binaural recordings. Doing my research, consulting with the experts
Im here for the sound recordings but to gain more viewers I think you should focus more on the location with the ambient sounds in the background. I Like your channel and I hope you well :) .
Thank you for the feedback...
