    Best(or obvious) three dimensional perception is heard at the summit when the recorder is switched to Zoom F6. Also the airplane take off scene is doubtlessly stunning especially with the matching video! Such fun video, thanks you two~ Ooh, about the camper van idea, it'd be fun of course from our side^^.

    Hi Libby and Marcel, first of all thank you so much for all the video's and info you share with the community. Theye are all great and very helpful. For the binaural recordings, I didn't find a significant difference between the two recorders. But did find difference in experience in the spaces you recorded them. Binaural experience is in my view very much subject to the environment it is recorded in. What I mean by that, is that a believable experience is emphasised by the familiarity of the environment. I can relate to the sea, street noise, room ambience. But not to the airfield, because I never come there. When I record binaural (with my DIY mic) of my own living room, and let say, someone enters the room, or my cat miaows, or tv is switched on, and then later listen to the recording, I can, even will, get tricked by the sound of the door or cat, and look up. In an attempt to answer your question if the DIY mic sounds as good as the expensive Neumann (“Dave”, says Christian), probably not. Lots of research went in to it. The Neumann is a niche product making it so expensive (and the brands reputation to). The 3DIO mic’s are much more affordable. I compared my design tot the 3DIO binaural mic, and found great similarity, anyway good enough for me. I use also the Micbooster EM272, matched pair. All the other parts are 3D-printed, silicon casts an laser cut plywood.

    Loved it. Amazing camera work, @Libby! @Marcel, I was also looking into these as an affordable first kit, perhaps paired with the Zoom F3. But I was struck by the fact that you didn't really tell us whether you liked this set up or not! Do you prefer working with a pair of compact cardioids instead for a setting like this? (water, birds, rain, footsteps... and the occasional airplane!). Thanks 😊

    • @FreeToUseSounds

    Thanks Marcel & Libby, i think your Campervan idea sounds amazing. Depending how long the trip would be, you may need to plan few hotel breaks to stretch your legs and avoid cabin/campervan fever. Would it be easy to set up a stereo pair of clippy mics inside a Rode blimp in place of my shotgun mic to have basic stereo recording with decent wind protection?

      @FreeToUseSounds  2 роки тому

      Hi Andy! This trip would take us between 6 months up to 1.5 years depending on how fast or slow we're moving. I think if you can fit some microphone clips inside the blimp, you should be able to do that.

    Sehr interessanter Test. Ich habe schon zwei Pärchen Clippys, bin aber so begeistert, dass ich mir wohl noch ein drittes Pärchen bestelle. Windschutz ist hier extrem wichtig, weil die Clippys auf Grund des Metallkragens um die Kapsel herum sehr anfällig für tieffrequente Windgeräusche sind. Wenn ich mit den Clippys unterwegs bin, halte ich sie gerne am Kabel herunterhängend in der Hand, mit etwa 40cm Abstand. Gestern hat mich jemand gefragt, ob ich damit Wasseradern aufspüren will. Und als ich mit dem Tascam DR-05II Footsteps im Schnee aufgenommen hab, hat eine Frau vermutet, ich wäre Landvermesser :)
    Danke für den Test. Und weiterhin viel Erfolg - den habt ihr mehr als verdient.
    Viele Grüße - Til.

      Hi Math! Great to hear that you love the H1n. Its a great recorder for sure. Well, we're using Audition but it comes with a subscription. If you don't want to pay monthly, check out Reaper. What would you recommend instead of Micro Usi Pro for binaural?
    I will wear GoPro on my forehead and record binaural POV videos and for that, I need the small form factor microphones to be able to wear the capsules in my own ears with help of some metal wires securing the cable from the back and around my ears.
    My recorder is Zoom F3.
    DPA 4560 binaural headset is a bit too much money.
    Price: anything between Micro Usi Pro and the DPA binaural set, looking for "bang for the buck" so if they are small and exceptionally good, it doesn't have to be close to LOM prices.

      The TRS version picks up noise all the time, the XLR much less. I have both. You can pack the spare wire in tinfoil, that helps a bit. Also as to what types of antennas interfere with it, it's a lottery. One time I was near a very large antenna, and no noise. Another time there was no antenna I could see, and there was noise. The worst case was near a large stage with big speakers and big preamps.

    What is the difference between the dummy head and our own head with OKM caplsules by exemple ?

    • @FreeToUseSounds
      @FreeToUseSounds  2 роки тому +1

      Well they both omnidirectional microphones which mean they have the same pattern. Now position makes the difference. The OKM can’t go so far inside the ear canal. With the dummy head you don’t have problems with cable noise or that the microphone falls out of your ear. On the other side, you can walk around recording with the OKM and nobody would notice. Try this with the dummy head inside a full subway. :)

    Hi! I'm thinking about this microphone. I'd like to use for hiking, just recording the nature and walking sounds. Should I buy a recorder too or it's enough if I just plug in directly into the camera? They say it's a really sensitive microphone and I'm afraid of my breath will be also recorded. Is this microphone good for that or should I choose something else? Thank you! :) (I hope I made it clear)
