my laptop is practically begging me to stop doing this right now, but this is a really fun tutorial to watch and play along with!! thank you so much :D
2 things to concider: 1) work in an 8 bpc project (bottom project panel) 2) don't use the effect 'Fill' on the solid, just use a white solid (fill is a 32 bpc effect and shatter a 8 bpc) that's the way it worked for me.
Oh wow. I've always done the slow motion shatter effect by making a shatter and time remapping a pre-comp of it to be slower. Didn't realize it had a built in setting for that with viscosity. Thanks!
you don't know how much your classes are valued by us thank you very much from an amazing heart thank you for the work in recording this top video class and teaching us greetings from Brazil and all the best to you
The remaining edge looks a little to clean and «digital». Perhaps one could apply the roughen edges effects to the solid layer? Or would you guys recommend another way to get the break off edge more organic?
hello. Currently, only white Fill is applied to the mask layer, but if you add a Turbulent Displace effect to it and change the options (eg Amount:10, Size:23, Complexity:10), you can express rough edges.
@@DRS659 haha! That sounds about right. And seems reasonable as a suggestion in a perfect world where we had more time to learn a new program from the buttom up. For now the amount of client work keeps us locked into what we know well, which is Adobe.

How do I make it so different "Masks" break at different times rather than at the same time? Like in 6:36 without the User Interface stuff. Like is there some keyframe I can use to do this? Anyways great tutorial though!
Hi, can you please help me figure out where the problem might be? I am doing everything exactly as in the tutorial, but after I select the mask in the gradient section of the shatter effect, the object stops breaking apart. I think many people have encountered this issue. Thanks in advance for your response.
hello. Check if the project color depth is 8bit. And, check if the Fill effect is applied to the mask Layer. The Fill color should be completely white. 1:08
@@TutoView Yes, it turned out that the issue was with the fill color. I had it set to FBF5F5, and this turned out to be critically important. After I changed it to FFFFFF, everything worked. Thank you, you are great!👍

Pretty cool, but is there a method to add noise to the edges of the fragmented piece so it's not so sharp?
'Fast Blur' the mask layer to soften the rough edges a bit.
