  • Join me in an online demonstration of some blacksmithing tooling I make and sell. The TMIB makes a great addition to any forge and can help you improve your work. The helper shelf idea was given to me by Skingsleyforge and he requested I made one for him. So this is it.
    Hope you enjoy!

I welded a car spring over the striking edge of my mild steel butcher, i think you called them ... a DIY guilotten. I didnt harden them. this preserved the top edge from striking damage a fair bit... :) i hope thats helpful

Nice modification to your helper, great idea Connor had. Also outstanding that you're so fast and make a video about it 🤩
Love the new forge, may it serve you well! And a good retirement to the old one, it has done a fab job as well (I hope😅)

I use mild steel dies, carbon or alloy steel in flats I haven't seen listed here. But would try to change to better steel if doing bigger runs of stuff. Get carbon and alloys in rounds only mostly. Otherwise custom order I think. I do custom work atm so mild works for me.

I never realized how low your anvil is (or it really looks that way) The different camera angle really showed it better. Nothing wrong with it, whatever works best for the user.

That design is so versatile, even blade smiths can use it to fuller a blade, could even put a pointer on top to guage thickness of the material as it's being fullered. (When the top of the dye drops to the pointer, you know not to go deeper or it will be to thin.)

sometimes, I have the impression that you watch my forging videos as soon as you make a video to correct and show how to do well 😁
Because my last ax was not really made according to the rules of the art 😉

Dan this may sound stupid but is there a tool that make an X so I can bend the metal up along them lines?

G'day Dan, it's been a long while since i dropped a comment here matey; and that is now going to be rectified, hahaha! aren't you lucky! anyway, shit "jokes" aside- i feel compelled to write now Big fella, for a couple of reasons: the main one being that I haven't been receiving ANY notifications for when you out a video, which shits me to tears; and i thought you'd probs want to know. btw, I set my notification wotnots to get ALL "head's ups" when there's a new'un. and the second big reason I'm being a bag of wind atm is because i got around to making my own Guillotine tool, i mean spring fullers have their place for sure, but it's a drag to maintain the dies as parallel, especially now I'm making the odd hammer and they're different sizes/styles and I'm making adjustments to the spring.. anyway. man, i can't stand fullers that aren't parallel. i reckon i get a facial tic and start twitching, deadset 😉 so yeah i was was wanting a guillotine tool for ages and do not regret the effort. in fact it was a couple of your vids that i was paying attention to for reference when i was trying to figure out exactly my ideal setup. haha, crikey I'm making up for lost time here hey. so finally, i really like that shelf idea. i can see situations that'd come in real handy; and also i've necessarily needed to make do with on hand materials for my dies- mainly cos it's not a business I'm relying on to live and wotnot so the expense of buying that kind of stock isn't on my radar.. soo i've been fucking around welding 5/8" square mild steel together nice n flat, and then welding various sizes/ now sizes and shapes of what began life as stabiliser bars or sway bars outta things with wheels :) from my half arsed research into what material that is, it's something like 4140 or whatever similar. whatever it actually is, it's pretty tough. blahblahblah crikey yeah that's enough outta me I suppose but i wanted to let you know about the notification thing. UA-cam can be.. kinda lacking regarding their algorithms doing as they're supposed to i find. but hey. anyway goodonya Dan, 'twas good to be seeing the TMIB video pop up. cheers 👍

Just like to say a great thanks to you for your videos, they have been very informative as I'm setting up my forge. Just wondering if it possible to order a guillotine and if you still doing the flypress benching jig from an earlier video or can point me in the right direction?

Ever worked with corn as a forge fuel? Finding that it's hot, and doable, but for welding, I find my blower so strong, it blows a tunnel through the corn coke and I have to shut the blower down to often to repair the fire for the metal to get hot enough to weld.

@@danielmoss2089 sorry to hear that, I know you had the old one for a long time. I'm going to miss the massive mound of coke 😂 Will this forge allow you to work on larger items as it's got a lot more space the the old one? (I know that the fire will be a similar size, there's just a lot more room around it) 👍
