    Thanks for asking me to say something, always down to talk about games, especially games I enjoy!
    No joke, Xenoblade Chronicless X is a fucking Banger of a game, I want more of THAT, god damn.
    Regardless, I will add something else that is a very odd choice with the game, the main ISSUE i have with Starfield, is the games systems are parted out in certain skills, so space combat feels simple, because you need the actual piloting skill to get things like Maneuvering thrusters, and Specific target lock (I.e. locking onto engines or grav drive, so you can disable the ship instead of outright destroying it,)
    I make zero good points in this, and I do still have a good time with the game, but for people who don't, I can COMPLETELY understand the issues and complaints, and they are all valid.

    • @nihilisticnerd
      @nihilisticnerd  8 місяців тому +3

      I think it's fine that space combat isn't frustratingly complex. The skill tree did feel a bit wonky tho. I'd kill for a new Xenoblade Chronicles X.

    • @Kreyowitz
      @Kreyowitz 8 місяців тому +1

      Right, I wasnt saying it wasnt fine, I just find it odd that the complexity is locked behind systems the game doesn't tell you about.@@nihilisticnerd

      @nihilisticnerd  8 місяців тому +2

      My best guess is that Bethesda thought it wouldn't be a good idea to introduce all of those mechanics at once? That said I don't think locking it behind perks was the best decision. Maybe the perk system will get a rework. IIRC the jump pack was also similar. (that or I had to re keybind it)

    It's sad that so many people settle for mediocrity.
    I had fun shooting things too, but I can get that in any other Game too.
    It was a very dull time I spend in SF, and I hate that so many people now call those randomly placed points of Interest "Procedurally generated".
    However... I found all of this to complain about... it's a lot
    No Vats - No Gore - No diving - borked Stealth - No Weapon/Armor Repairing(Durability System) - No Building your own Ship/Equipment from Material you Mined/Gathered - No real End-Game Goals - No Transmog - No making your own Contraband - NPCs not dropping what they wear - Can't open Doors, defuse Mines, use Items... when in Scan Mode - Can't control jump height. NPCs can do that. A Charge up Meter is really needed on some Moons, or you fly off like a Rocket - Boost Packs are not really suitable ever/meaning that you need different kinds of Boosters for different Situations but also you need Resistances against Korrosion, Air, Radiation, Bio, and somewhat level conforming Laser, EMP, Bullet Resistance = you need 12+ Boost Packs - Crafting and Building Copy Paste from FO4 but with worse placement control - Awful Controls overall. The game works on GamePad but you need your whole Keyboard if you choose to play on the Keyboard. Make ready to rebind 50 Keys and ignore Conflicts - Very few and lackluster Feats - You should start with level one on each Skill - Skills need to be way more "Exotic". ATM they are mostly "more DMG, can Craft, can buy, can fly - Item Feats are mostly useless and are Copy Paste from FO4 - Skill progression is mostly forgettable and unimaginative - EXP from discovering, Hacking, building, crafting is nearly not existent - Item Notifications gone after 1.5sec = can't check Stats = open Inventory - Carry Capacity sucks - You can't mark individual Items to look/track for - You can't undo all tracking Items - Inventory Menu sucks! StarUI Mod needed = modding mandatory or wasting hours unnecessarily - Can't use Cure Object in Affliction Screen. Again StarUI Mandatory - Not showing "Weather(Corrosion/Radiation...)" Conditions on Planet before landing- Map is awful - Quests send you to places you can't reach - Lifeless Planets are useless - Copy pasted Bases/Caves... no sign of prcedurally generated Locations - Often looking to Scan "Natural Wonder" that I already Scanned because it's not identifyable from the Picture - Planet Map shows 100% scanned even if it's not because of "Costal Area" - Escort Quests that have you travel 1000m+ for low reward - You can't ban Useless Items from Scanner - Rare/Legendary/Epic Items cause 2sec Game Freeze when Equiped and changing to Scanner or cyceling through Weapons - Space Combat at least unskilled at early Levels is pure Stats Game and often undoable because 3v1 - No feeling of actually flying through Space - You still get Stuck and can not jump when on angled Ground as in FO4/Skyrim/Oblivion... - NPC Money should be infinite or at least increased by 4x - Items you pick up/have in Inventory show the worth they have when you buy them from a Merchant, but they should show what they are worth to you, when you sell them - NPC standing on Pilot Seat so only 3rd Person Space Flight or piloting through gap between NPCs Legs - Enemies/Animals on Planet stacked in a Heap, so you think you will fight 3, but it ends up being 12 or more all stacked into one tiny Spot and into each other - Melee Combat as bad as it was in any other Bethesda Game (look what modders did to Skyrims Combat Animations) - Reloading gets Canceled by running and jumping - Typical Bethesda Bullet-Sponge Enemies - Typical run around/jump over Obsacles and slowly chip away their Health - In Ship flight you need to be able to make custom Presets for "Full Power Weapons, Grav Drive, Engines, Shields..." and bind them to F1-F4 or any other Key you choose - Needs City/Outpost/Other Listing on Star-Map to find the Locations + placement of own nameable Markers - Needs Button to stop Quests from coming in. I get 5 new Quests when running around doing one Quest. I don't know how I got the Quests. I don't know who the Quests are from. I have no connection to them. - NPCs need to stop talking over each other. It just can't be too complicated to program in that only one Voice can be played at once. - Finding Quests is a Nightmare. They need to be Structured much better. Time when Quest received/Location of Quest Giver/Nearby Quests/Location of Quest/Radiant Quest... - Still can't go from Sneak to normal Mode whilst doing any other action / meaning Stealth play feels Crap. Sneak to someone with a Melee Weapon, hit them 1 time, wait for Animation to finish, press "Crouch" Key, wait for your Character to stand up, and engage in Comabt. 1995... 19 F*cking 95!!! - I have been playing the Game for 60 hours now and am Level 30 and still I find the same Fire Axe I found on Level 4 over and over 21 DMG - When on the Map Screen, there has to be a Warning that you can not travel at this moment - I am SEETHING because I activated a Mission but the Game decided to not show me that Mission at all, but two other Missions I do not want to do - I decided to do one of the Missions to see what happens... I now have FOUR Map markers. WTF! And I am not allowed to activate even two Missions - Buy Back Disabled as soon as you leave Shopping Window - Can't pay the debt from Dream Home Perk - Game does not tell you what Skills do until you unlock the Line. That means that you can't work to a specific Skill and know its effect - I managed to lock up the Menu by opening and closing it in quick succession. - Can't move after Loading-Screen, but the NPCs can - Crafting is a F*ing JOKE! You dump Skill points and Materials into upgrading but then you look at something like "You can now add a +5 Resistances Mod to Your Jump Pack". And that one cost me 2 Skill Points btw. No mention of that beforhand! - No Planet Wiki showing me what Planet I have been on and what I found on that Planet (Alien Species, "Geysers", Flora...) - No Crafting of Weapons, Armor, Drugs, that are not already in the Game to find - No Enhancement of Weapon/Armor Mods (Stuff like increase chance to poison Enemy by+5%, by "infusing Weapon with 500 Material X, next 5% cost you 1000, next 5% cost you 2000, next 5% cost you 4000... something to make Mining Stuff on Planets useful)- No Melee Weapon Mods - No Melee Weapon Differences in behavior - Can we have 8k+ Planet Pictures for our "Space Journey"? - Just three Slots for Character Itemization (Not promising for what Variety Mods will be able to offer) - Timescale is F*ed when on some Planets. Wait 1 hour(time-unit) passes a VERY long time. Like wait "24 hours" = wait 2400 hours. WHO the F thought this was a good idea?! - Hold Key for every second Option, but sitting down "just works" -

    I made it almost 20 hours before uninstalling. Idk how many times I would walk past a random npc hear them speak two words and then a side quest was added. I didn’t even stop to listen or anything. Starting a mission early in the game with Vasco and Sarah was hilarious too cuz right after the loading screen it’s both of them talking at the same time and I can’t understand anything they’re saying because they’re both yapping over one another so I was like I’m out man. Lastly I don’t think any amount of mods will make this game great because the backbone of the game is still the same. Boring story, dull static npc’s. This would’ve maybe just made a better smaller fps

    Funny thing is I played Starfield over Gamepass until Cyberpunk Phantom liberty dropped. Needed something to kill time. The technical state that Starfield is in is insulting. This game should have been released in 2013. Not 2023. No joke playing Cyberpunk after that experience was like getting into a time machine. Todd Howard should be ashamed at this point still using that outdated engine.

      I did the same as you. Played starfield and saw a comparison, and so I picked up Cyberpunk for the very first time on Xbox One and just fell deep in love that it's my favorite universe now. After I realized I needed a "next-gen" console to play. I was happy to get the console literally just for Cyberpunk. I just subbed to Netflix literally just to watch Edgerunners. Needless to say I think I'm done with Bethesda. I will wait for TE6, but if it's dog poo.... I'm going to avoid Bethesda like how I avoid EA

      I would’ve liked to have been a fly on the wall when these types of questions were inevitably brought up in team meetings during development. You can’t tell me not a single person didn’t chime in with their own opinion questioning the type of stuff you just mentioned. I can only think that they had a more grand vision for the game and had to reduce the scope, which unfortunately meant stripping away some much needed mechanics to tie the whole thing together much better. As a result, what’s left is a shallow barebones game where the player just questions the whole point of it.

    My take on Bethesda games hasn't changed since Morrowind.
    It's the RPG for people who don't like RPGs.
    They are all just action combat games with a sci-fi or fantasy elements.
    They're not bad games, they just suffer from a lack of polish and an identity crisis.

    • @nihilisticnerd
      @nihilisticnerd  8 місяців тому +3

      To be clear I don't think they're bad. They're just very run of the mill when it comes to open world RPGs. Several other studios have made better functioning and more impressive games of the like. My personal theory is that this is likely because they've been using the same engine for a what feels like a decade now. It's limitations are becoming more and more evident and Bethesda keeps wanting to create grander scale games. It's a bottleneck.

    I hate how people give the many worlds a pass because they are procedurally generated. I have worked on procedural generation you can make CRAzy shit. You can even procedurally generate buildings with different textures and features with bricks. I’m talking an algorithm builds something brick my brick to come up with a building. Very cool tech. So when Bethesda come out with their procedural generation is it is copy pasted stuff everywhere it feels extremely lazy. Especially with the scale they were going for they needed something complex. Also if each planet is procedural give the planet a seed so you can travel across the whole planet if you want to and that seed can be used to generate what you will see ahead of you as you are walking. There is also a way to save what you have done on each planet with hash codes so I am very disappointed by their exploration. They are using beginner level logic for when it comes to procedural generation. I get that you should focus on the stories told through quests but they shouldn’t have marketed this game with the idea you can go create your own great adventures because you can’t.

      The are 2 main things I want out of Starfield.
      Combat, The issue with this is I have yet to see a FPS RPG that doesn't have bullet sponge enemies. It's kind of an issue in general with the genre if the player wants a more gunplay heavy game. This is personal preference so I can't really hold it against the game. The hilariously stupid AI is another story.
      Exploration has potential to be very good if players had access to vehicles but they don't and that is detrimental to a game where you are an "Explorer" Some of these planets and moons I want to explore but I can't because it's time too consuming.
      I want the game to play to it's strength. Flesh out exploration is a main thing here, and obviously polish as well. I apologize I should have stated this during the review.

      its a soulless, edgeless, safe, neutered, corporat esnoozfest with bland and ugly npcs, grating reddit tier dialogues, bland and ugly cities and boring, copypasted rng exploration and boring, samey looking planets. All factions are safe and boring, even the pirates, there is no real "danger" or antagonist force. Every generated NPC looks mutated and dysgenic, as if they were made that way on purpose. There are no separate nations, ethnicities or languages, everyone is mixed in a samey blender of ugliness, everyone speaks english, acts the same, wears the same things and so on. Its like a WEF advertisement. The ship building is cool, however i really regretted spending so much time on the game. Its very forgettable and uninteresting, i think its because they overpromised and outsourced a giant part of it to a bunch of small international studios.

      I think the what Starfield has going for it is that it's approachable and includes all of these things simultaneously. It's probably a good game to look into if you're interested in games like "Elite Dangerous" the "X series" but don't want to spend 2 month learning how to fly each spaceship and want some terrestrial gameplay as well.

    I played for 150 hours and I really tried to love it. At the end I came to the conclusion that I just lost 150 hours because I didn't enjoy any minutes of them. It's a bad game from the beginning to the end. Nothing is fun or entertaining. It's just...miserable and pathetic. It's now uninstalled and never coming back.

      Damn man nearly a week wasted, good luck on finding something better. (not that it's difficult)
      Dragons Dogma 2 comes out in March.

    Your friend is coping extremely hard at the end there. There are a million games with shooting combat that feels good that have a good game around it as well. The game wasting your time and their development time with empty planets just so they could say there are 1000 planets is NOT okay. NG+ is not worth doing because you lose the most important stuff - your ship and settlements.
    Also the way they tied the NG+ system into the main story/game lore makes it seem like they literally wrote the main story just to get people to play NG+ and keep wasting time in their tedious game. It is the same with the millions of loading screens and insane amount of time spent in inventory management/dealing with encumbrance, like it’s all a way to increase your hour count with bloat instead of content. It’s the same with the empty planets that make you run for 5-10 real life minutes to find a waypoint because there are no ground vehicles, it just wastes your time and pads out the hours played metric.
    The whole game feels designed around wasting your time so it looks like you played the game longer.
    Every Bethesda game is overrated and boring, Starfield is no different. Even with all the loud criticism it still scored an 84, it’s crazy. Some people just happily accept mediocrity and mundanity.

    I don't know, but it seems that you start playing without wanting to play.
    The first mission was interesting, shooting the pirates, you touch that thing and you're curious to know what it is, you get a ship and a robot.
    You go to Atlantis, and explore the city a bit, talk to the NPCs, you meet Hunter in the bar, a mysterious character who is very important to the main story, I doubt you met him at the beginning of the game.

      The way I wrote the script made it seem otherwise, but I started with a pretty neutral opinion on the game. (aside from my preconceived opinions on Bethesda RPG.) The mystery around the relics seems like it could be interesting at the very least but by the time got three of the pieces I had lost my motivation to play. I think Starfield could be a VERY good game but at the same time it feels like a lot of the activities are shallow and could be improved on.

      I've been playing RPGs since I was second grade. I still play RPGs and I even mentioned one of my favourites in the video. I don't know where you got the idea that I don't like RPGs.

      Yeah and Mario Kart is the best survivor horror game😂 I couldn't finish the game. I reached a point where I understood that nothing I did really had any consequences, and I couldn't roleplay as my own character but had to play the character Bethesda wanted me to play. That is just straight up bad rpg game design.
