    "Moon is Up" is surprisingly good song here. It sounds like an ordinary song of ordinary band BUT with Stones' vibe and talent. Thanx for video, Alan - it's a good to see how you're enthusiastic with the Stones every time - like me.

    I've only been lucky enough to see The Stones live 14 times. The very best of which was seeing them at the London Astoria in 2003. They did really old covers and deep cuts. I was 3 feet from Keith the whole night.

    What I wouldn’t give to experience The Stones performing in a club! It is where the band is best seen as an organic unit that naturally rises to the top tier of its capabilities. For hardcore long time fans like me - and you - a club show provides extra thrills by having a setlist that replaces lots of war horses with the deep cuts that we Stones fanatics cherish. Your contagious unadulterated enthusiasm for “Welcome to Shepherd’s. Bush” prompted me to stream the album and then go to UA-cam to watch the concert footage that’s out there. Everything you said in your review was reflected in what I heard and saw. Even the small screen I watched the concert on could not lesson the huge impact I felt from what surely must be one of the very best concerts given by The Stones. A fairly good song on record (IMHO), “Moon Is Up” was exceptional, as you said. I’ve always loved “Melody” and “Saint of Me,” and both blew me away. And “I’ve Got The Blues” penetrated my soul. I can’t say enough great things about the concert at Shephetd’s Bush. Thank you for getting me fired up about checking it out.

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  Місяць тому

      Thanks for checking it out and I'm so glad you enjoyed it so much. It really is a great show - they're having so much fun on that small stage and it's infectious. The depressing part is it was just confirmed its the lowest selling Stones release. Didn't chart anywhere. Sold absolutely nothing. Now some will say it's just an archive release....but others like The Grateful Dead continuously release archive releases and they chart on the album charts fairly high. (I think the Dead broke the record now for most charting albums or something). The terrible Stones artwork doesn't help, but these excellent archive releases are commercial failures - even Stones fans arent' buying them.....

    Hi Mate I've been waiting for your review on this and you didn't disappoint. You are my "go to" Stones expert and clearly awarded this release 2 "Rosenbergs" for both Blue ray and CD. This will be in my collection, with or without Santa's involvement. Thank you for a great job on this. I knew you'd live the artwork as soon as I saw it😂. Why oh why can't the stones take lead out of the Beatles and Tull book and give there music the presentation it deserves?

As I know you will, but definitely get the Blu-ray version as I enjoyed the Blu-Ray so much and that will be my go to as opposed to the 2 CDs. I'm so with you regarding the artwork and packaging. Are the Stones purposely trying to create artwork that will turn off potential buyers that are not automatic diehard Stones fans so they won't purchase their releases. Well I guess it's working because these excellent releases (Wiltern as well) are not selling. Drives me crazy...lol. The Grateful Dead continue to release endless live archive albums on CD and they chart on Billboard. These Stones releases don't. I don't get it. @@apollomemories7399 I wasn't comparing Mick and Keith's solo career. Just saying that during 1986 and Dirty Work that they were at their lowest points. WWIII. Couldn't stand each other. They could barely put together an album, and to me Dirty Work is their worst studio album. The idea that they would tour behind that was so ridiculous. Would've finished them off for sure. The fact that they both did solo projects in retrospect (and Mick knew it at the time) actually benefitted them. Mick's solo career was not the huge success he hoped for and Keith appreciated Mick more as well. So they were so much stronger when back for Steel Wheels. And Steel Wheels was completely modelled after Jagger's Japanese / Australian tour - back up singers and a really tight band.

    The Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Band in the World strikes again. I remember this surprise show. Stones detective story for you: In 2002, at a meeting of the clans at a Covid funeral, I bumped into my 'acid-brother' from the mid-70s whom I probably hadn't seen for maybe thirty or more years. We arranged to catch up at a later date, which we duly did, when he told me the following, which I am inclined to believe. We had been huge Stones fans back then - there's a small wooden chest of drawers next to me right now in 2024 covered in stickers put there in the seventies including the round Goat's Head Soup one from the album & one from Ronnie's Gimme Some Neck that we put there fifty years ago. Anyway, Mark, as was, and still is, his name, decided back then that one day, somehow, he would get to go on tour with the Stones. And if you are not in any way a musician, and you cannot sing, and you are useless with money, well good luck. And yet he did get to tour Europe with the Stones in the nineties, although he never met the band, but he did get acknowledged on rare occasions by Mick & Keith (as in a nod of the head). Any ideas?? Heh heh.

No, not a caterer, but definitely catered for those other needs you mention! Was always kept at arm's length - used to deal with a couple of suited and booted gentlemen on behalf of the band, but was on the tour, expenses paid. As I reiterate on occasions, I don't make this stuff up, and the fact that he told me he never really met the band (plus other stuff he mentioned) tends to make me believe him - someone bragging would have ended up best buddies with Keef, or similar - you know what I mean. I tend to believe him because someone who was bragging would have ended up best friends with Keef or similar - you know what I mean - and because he had always said he'd get on a Stones tour one day (and a few other anecdotes he told me that must remain between him and me, I'm afraid. Who cares about the "artwork"? Surely these geezers can't be wanting glaring picture covers of photos of other geezers? How weird is that. Anyway, I bought the 4K Ultra HD version and it's seriously good.

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  Місяць тому

      Oh musically it's seriously good / seriously great. But as a lifelong physical media guy, it totally bothers me that The Rolling Stones artwork has seriously gone down in quality for decades - especially considering how great many of the album covers were. And it certainly doesn't help with their physical record sales, even compared to other legacy acts of their timeframe. They don't have to use photos of geezers..lol.

      @@TheAlanRosenbergShow Obviously, I was being a bit tongue in cheek, so to speak and erase that thought immediately. Lol. But, let's say I've kind of gotten used to somewhat disappointing artwork on Stones stuff since Dirty Work, like nearly 40 years ago. Their name is bigger than any artwork support and that's a fact. Another fact is they don't look 25 anymore, so there's zero possibilty of a Through The Past Darkly kinda sleeve is there? But hey, it's still a lot better than GRRR!

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  Місяць тому

      @@apollomemories7399 Well I agree that we don't need to see their faces so much on the covers, but like you just said - their album covers have been pretty dismal over the decades. But worse still recently. Classic rock doesn't sell much to begin with but The Stones archive stuff is usually pretty great but sells less than other bands of their era (and bands that don't have The Stones reputation or concert ticket sales). I'm not exactly sure why, but the album covers certainly don't help. And make no mistake The Stones want and like to sell albums and have good chart positions.

    • @apollomemories7399
      @apollomemories7399 Місяць тому

      @@TheAlanRosenbergShow I think there's a cut-off point for the vast majority of record buyers when it comes to live albums and particularly with archive live albums with little or no history attached to them. I also can't think of any other band who has released anything like the number of archive releases in both audio and video form as the Stones. And if there are, they're not on my radar. Plus there's all these 'normies' who don't even buy hard copy physical formats anyway, so that must be a problem for any artist. People like us, those real fans who do follow the release schedules with positive expectation and actually buy physical are a dying breed and in relatively small numbers these days. The normies don't even own a hi-fi and settle for ear-buds via a smart phone. It's an abysmal situation. For me these days for the Stones, if it's an album, I'll buy on vinyl and CD, as also with any corresponding singles. If it's on film, I'll buy the Blu-ray or this new 4k, as I don't really need the CD. I always much prefer to watch a Stones concert rather than just listen if at all possible.
