I love Bootlegs. Some bands frown on them but if your not getting bootlegged it means your not hot or popular. Also, real fans buy everything and it’s free advertising. I just thought I’d tell you about a good Stones show playing on UA-cam right now! Live in Seattle 1981! I like all the Some Girls tours from that Era! Anyway, it’s special because it was filmed for Closed Circuit TV and the video and audio is professional. I think you will like it as it’s quality and the setlist is excellent! Mick is wearing yellow Spandex pants like he’s an athlete and he really runs around during this show! He earned his pay for this show! They were a lot younger and has to prove they were still the bad boys of Rock and not old Fogeys. The Punks slagged them off as old men. So they came out with Some Girls and Shattered to prove they still had it!
Thanks - yea that's a good show - I have that one. That was from Tattoo You from the Seattle Superdome. Cool show because they played Star Star which was a rarity on the 1981 tour. Good one though. Thanks again.

Thanks so much. I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday in this festive time. How cool that you used to have a radio show.. Were you on the radio? Online radio? How cool.....
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow And thank YOU for the holiday wishes as well! Yes, for 2-3 years I was live on WPWL, Pawling Public Radio, a local station. At the time, they were expanding and looking for new shows to fill up more of their schedule. My son's friend's Dad was one of the chairman (chairperson, chair, chair guy?😂), and we have a mutual great love for and somewhat similar tastes in music. So they kind of coerced me into creating and hosting my own show. I passed a try-out audition and was on my way. The weekly "Grumpy's Place" was born. But truthfully, it was kind of a dream come true. Since it was a live broadcast (not a powerful station, so fairly local), AND streamed everywhere else, I would get a chance to spread the word of the music that I loved to a lot of other people. I gave them quite the eclectic mix, threw in some fun stories, etc. and voila, I had a live FM and streaming radio show. I got some good feedback on it. People seemed to enjoy it and always looked forward to the next episode. I'll tell you, the most fun for me was going to concerts and getting some of my musical heroes to do a radio spot promo for my show, which I'd play as an intro to one of their songs. I remember Felix Cavaliere of The Rascals, bassist Tony (and brother Pete) Levin, Bobby Caldwell the drummer for Johnny Winter and Captain Beyond, Dave Cousins from the Strawbs, the guys from Rat Race Choir etc. What a blast hearing them say "You're listening to Grumpy's Place on WPWL" and so on! But I was still working full time then (happily retired now! Living the dream! -of NOT working😁), and after a good run, it was just becoming too much. I put a LOT of effort, research and work into each show. When it got to the point where it was becoming more of a chore and less fun, I stopped. My heart has to be in it. My family is still trying to convince me to resurrect the show. Since WPWL is now defunct, I'd have to do it on my own. Maybe a podcast thing. I always tell them "We'll see." I dug up the old promo write-up for the show: WPWL's newest show: GRUMPY'S PLACE Grumpy invites you to join him each week on a musical adventure at his place. Alan, another great selection. I thought you'd hit 100K subscribers when I saw the trophy behind you. Congratulations on reaching 3K subscribers! Nice presents from your family. By coincidence, one of the videos recommended to me by UA-cam today is a recording of a full concert by Wishbone Ash from a few days ago. (Also, I picked up a CD of 'Argus' from 1991 for 50 pence today. I like the sound of older CDs.) Some fantastic pick ups from Looney Tunes for a dollar a piece. I paid good money for my copy of 'Blank Generation' when it first came out on CD. Looking forward to the next backlog to catalog video.

Thanks - those were the only copies. You're never really gonna find lots of copies of a bootleg in the wild. Lucky when find just one. I don't buy "new" vinyl. But I know there's like a grey area and they are selling "bootleg" live shows from radio broadcasts on new vinyl and CD's as well. Copyrights expired. Expensive though.
Hi Mate Nice gifts and a great show. Those Who boots are amazing. Here's an idea. Why don't the Stones reach out to the guys at Hiwatt (I love the cheek of using the Who amp name) for the next release? That content and packaging puts many legit labels to shame. Clearly these guy's love and know the band and want to do it justice. Just shows what can be achieved with a good creative artwork team. ARE YOU LISTENING MR JAGGER? I think your Missis is a great sport. Well done on your subscribers. Cheers Perry
Thanks Perry - I agree with you. PLEASE Hiwatt - whoever you are - please contact The Stones and get them out of this series of worst album graphics. They're cheap looking, amateuristic and clearly unappealing to the casual fan and no fan because no one is buying them!!!! What is the deal......phew....I almost feel better....not really though. Thanks and Cheers back to you Perry.
Brilliant pressie from the kids, by the looks of it! Congrats on 3,000! Now, I may have said this before (I have), but START THE RICHARD HAWLEY ALBUM WITH CD 2 TRACK 1 Don't Stare at the Sun. JUST FOR ME. GO ON. BREAK ALL THE RULES! Also, if you do so, then you will start your Mr Hawley solo adventure exactly as I did (though I then had to go exploring for other stuff and I bought the compilation CD much later), and your thoughts after that first track I would be interested in). Do as you wish after that (as if you need my permission). Sweet Warrior - fine album. And I would have picked up those Donovan Cds too. May I also say that I rather like the way that you just brushed off as almost hardly worth saying the only, imho, honest reason for buying (and I use the word buying specifically) bootlegs - owning the whole catalogue. I have traded a lot of music in my time, but I have never made any money out of so doing (I certainly could have), because I never believed that would be right. End of, for me. Hence the irony, twenty years back, when the Zappa Trust sent that Cease & Desist letter. I felt like saying; "You idiots - we already own all the official stuff, and some of the people listening to unofficial stuff on our website are now going to go out and buy the official CDs fer heaven's sake! Thus making you money! Duh!" You can't win. Now, on the subject of hand grenades, well, believe it or not, I happen to know quite a lot about hand grenades. Believe it or not, the old hippie gave a talk to about thirty ex-military blokes about First World War hand grenades a couple of summers ago (with many real examples) and they loved it, and in September this year I got a gold award at some exhibition for displaying my collection of German & Austro-Hungarian & Italian Great War Grenades. Ha! I kid you not. And no, I have nothing in my personal background to do with the military, quite the contrary, I am a pacifist, but I do like history. Anyway, the point is, yours is definitely not real.................. Dedicated Martin.
You know your legend here continues to grow and grow. You are on fascinating man Martin. Hand Grenades. wow. I will tell you that the hand grenades that I was drinking in New Orleans were very tasty and made me feel really good. I imagine one David Kunzli will agree. Let me get this straight - you got a cease and desist letter from Zappa's trust for what - buying bootlegs. It's perfectly legal to buy them.....now selling that's a different ball of wax. I remember so many stores in Greenwich village NYC getting shut down for selling them unfortunately. Of course the hypocrisy is ridiculous as most of these artists, including ZAPPA sell the very same bootlegs - ZAPPA had bootleg boxes for f's sake. Many artists collect their own bootlegs. Pirating...now that's something else. Of course now the artists release their own "bootlegs" etc. Yet usually they clean them up, record new vocals and they're not as good as the original bootlegs....(hello Rolling Stones...lol). And of course anyone fan buying bootlegs are buying them to supplement their official collections because they just want more. Anyway, I promise I will start with Disc 2 of Hawley. Promise.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow The ZFT sent a Cease & Desist letter for two reasons; twenty years ago I was involved with a website called Kill Ugly Radio - its remnants still remain somewhere deep in the interweb. My part (under the nom de plume of MagicFingers, after the FZ tune, which I still use and am known as elsewhere on the net.) on the website was the weekly FZ concert or rehearsal, where I would take a show/rehearsal/alternate take from the hundreds of audience and other recordings I have, play around with the dynamics a bit with the software available at the time, chop it up into MP3s, and we'd put it on the website for the fans to hear and download. We also used thumbnails of the released FZ albums elsewhere on the site, and these were the two reasone we got the lawyer's letter. Considering no money ever changed hands, and thus we are not in any way talking bootlegging, we never ever put released material on the website, and that all we were doing was, in effect, giving free promotion to the work of FZ and the ZFT, how narrow-minded can you get? We did get contacted by two different California lawyers who offered, should we choose to take the whole thing further, to act for us for free!! We didn't take it further, of course, and the website began to drift soon after, though it carried on, without much input from me, for another five or six years. There is a rather amusing, and ironic, what-might-have-been addenda to this tale that might interest you, too.........?
@@martinstarnes2237 Yes Martin you have to keep going with this story. That's such an interesting story. How cool had some lawyers contact you to defend you for free. The ultimate is that Zappa took the ACTUAL bootlegs and released them under him in the Beat The Bootleg series and boxsets. Am I the only one along with you who sees the hypocrisy. Oh how dear the bootleggers record my shows and release them....Oh wait, they're actually kind of good and cool. so let me take it from them and sell them so I can make all the money.....
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow I think Frank deserves a little more credit, to be fair. The Beat the Boots series was borne out of years of frustration with both record companies & bootleggers and Frank was at no point shy in explaining the reason behind them, "If you want to listen to this shit, it seems I can't stop you, but if you are going to pay to hear it, pay me, not some faceless crook who has stolen my music to make money for himself. I have not touched these tapes in any way, but I have provided a box for you." Can't really blame him. And some of it is, indeed, shit, but, ironically, one concert is an absolute gem with the only vocal version of one particular tune. Anyway, ready for the next bit of my story then.........?
...because here we go - very few people know about this for obvious reasons but I shall tell you what I can. At the time this was all going on I already had in my possession a second generation (MASTER - 1st Gen (direct copy) - 2nd Gen) copy of a certain unreleased Zappa album. Thus top quality. From a naughty, but very nice, engineer, of course. Now this album was one of the very few that we all knew Frank had recorded before his death as a full album (as opposed to the many posthumous, and mostly very worthy, box sets of rehearsals, outtakes, remasters etc etc that have appeared over the decades), and thus everyone spent many years wondering when it would be released. A bit of a Holy Grail, if you like. Well, just imagine if we had been nasty guys and decided to 'release' that to the world as a bit of revenge. That woulda screwed them somewhat. And we could have. Ha! Funnily enough, around 2007ish I had a long conversation on the phone to NYC with the guy who played bass on these sessions for Frank (recorded in 1993) who of course had never heard the finished result, so I did send him a copy, but that is the only copy I have ever ripped. Fyi, it still has not been released, and I am still one of very few, I imagine, who has known it well for over twenty years now!! I am such a smartass.
Alan, I have to make a comprehensive list of the bootlegs that I have to share with you. A lot of live Cd's of Led Zep, Jethro Tull, Stones, Who, Rush and Dire Straits.
Yea - funny because I'm a sizeable Costello fan - not sure why I never bought Spike because it was a big hit - but gonna be digging deep on it now. Thanks.
Oh yea I've mentioned it. It was requested by subscribers - they want us to do a Q&A with my wife and me - some have sent in questions. So if you have any send it in. Certainly will be a different kind of video and hopefully will be fun (though certainly won't be for my wife...lol).

That's so nice Russell - thanks so much....Big smile on my face.
I like the sound of older CDs.)
Some fantastic pick ups from Looney Tunes for a dollar a piece. I paid good money for my copy of 'Blank Generation' when it first came out on CD.
Looking forward to the next backlog to catalog video.
As always - thanks Carl. 50p for an Argus - can't beat that. 100k...lol. Took me four years to hit 3,000. But hey quality over quantity...right? Yea - that was a great gift from the family. Best, alan
OMG you have totally changed my mind on boots! I would love those Who sets, how awesome is that??!! Great scores, how many did they have left?
A lot of live Cd's of Led Zep, Jethro Tull, Stones, Who, Rush and Dire Straits.
sounds good.
I love deep dark truthful mirror my Elvis Costello and I think it's on that record you should
Yea - funny because I'm a sizeable Costello fan - not sure why I never bought Spike because it was a big hit - but gonna be digging deep on it now. Thanks.
You just said you passed 3k subscribers but didn’t mention the special guest once you do. What’s up
Oh yea I've mentioned it. It was requested by subscribers - they want us to do a Q&A with my wife and me - some have sent in questions. So if you have any send it in. Certainly will be a different kind of video and hopefully will be fun (though certainly won't be for my wife...lol).
