I’m a retired prison officer and nothing I’ve heard during this piece surprised me. The drive to cut budgets in prisons has quite literally led to a race to the bottom in terms of security, safety and rehabilitation of prisoners. Giving 7,000 officers voluntary redundancy in 2013 led to shocking staffing levels on wings, which when combined with recruitment of far from suitable staff in the years following has left the few decent, experienced officers that are left just marking time until they retire.
ZERO SEATS
Can’t think of anything they have got right!
There’s a real scandal in the security sector at the moment with labour exploitation, wonky visas and licenses, and big firms making huge profits whilst palming off work to dubious subcontractors. The law and order system is broken in the UK.
It's been like this for over 13 years.. it's nothing new at all, the media just haven't been interested.
This is the result of privatisation, when they attempt to run public services as for profit services.
I used to work for G4S and you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between some of the security staff and the criminals
its been like this for many years
Not surprising at all. When you hear about who they've been recruiting as police officers, i just presumed the prison service would be the same. How many issues will the next govt have?
Why have prisons? Other countries use the guillotine?
I was unfortunatly in London jail in 2018 and indeed security is redicilous.. im not sure i could have got out but could easily get into and hide in areas i wasnt supposed to and any kind drugs, alcohol or mobile phones were available in every block
The worst thing about this? This wont even make the top ten things that Labour urgently HAVE to sort out when they get in.
Did the Times consider reporting on this stuff 14 years ago? 7 years ago? 3 years ago? No they didn’t, which is why we’re in the situation we are now. Bit late now
don't het started on the British Museum
Can you make it much easier for us by restricting your videos on what the Tories are doing right?
public sector workers are unsackable therein lies the problem.
