- An urgent investigation has begun into prison security after an undercover journalist, from The Times, was hired at one of the country’s most dangerous jails and was then able to walk inside and interact with prisoners without security searches.

Last month a Times reporter was hired by an agency to work at HMP Bedford amid a nationwide staffing shortage.
On two out of eight days that he worked at the prison, there was no one manning the security scanners at the front entrance when he arrived for work. This allowed him and several others to walk inside the jail and through to prisoner wings without even the most basic searches.

I've heard that the guards allow weed in the prisons because it chills the inmates out. Tbh, I don't blame them!

It's legal highs or ' spice ' that is mostly smoked as the chemicals can be soaked into letters or documents and smoked. Pregabalin use is also on the rise in jails as they are easily sold and sniffed. It's mental honestly😂

Why don't the prisoners clean and fix their own cells and communal areas? Surely, or am I missing something.
And if they refuse to clean, they can wallow in their own mess.

Jeez, that’s the last time I go to Bedford shopping and I’m glad my son left college there a few years ago. I do recall there being a fatal stabbing in the same road as the college the week he started his course. It’s some statistic for Bedford prison to be the worst in the country for lapse security.
I wonder how easy it is for someone to get data of offenders from prison systems such as offense, addresses and families from some coersed by inmates, to the ends of gang related violence or nonse-bashing

Thank you for this.. Solution Politicians need to build more prisons. Strict training for all prison employees. Increase correction Officers pay. Bring in Army Regiments. If in Russia do we in the west know how their prisoners behave? Not like the West because our Politicians are tip toeing around human rights of prisoner's, what about the victim's?
What about the families of the Victim's? Prisons need to be built to house Violent, terrorist Prisoner's. Non violent prisoner's need to be housed in different prisons. But then it all comes down to the all mighty DOLLAR our Government's are Responsible for our Safety.
Don't blame the Police Officer's for they arrest go to court the criminal is released on bail by our weak Laws and weak Judge's time after time. The Laws in our Countries need to be changed. If only that simple.

Each UK prison is different. Not all are the same in terms of inmates and wardens .

Been here a few times. From 2010 -2021 i did 4 visits of 2-4 months. The place is a shithole. 90% of the jail are on spice. It comes in on A4 paper. Its basically a sheet of A4 dipped in a tub of chemicals. It gets thru the post in letters. The vapes you get in there can be altered and u just put a small bit of paper on the burner on the vape and smoke it. 1 credit card size piece of an A4 sheet was going for £25 when i was last in. No joke, the whole jail is on it. Zombies everywhere man. Bedford is/was an absolute dump. Ive been sober and clean and crime free since 2021 and have turned my life around. Bedford MADE me change. Unfortunately I seem to be one of few that it HAS changed.

imagine if prisons grew it ,for commercial & medical use . The smart ones would have a job to come home to & in 2 crops if decrimmed = economy looking much better
