Tamiya moved from static into radio-controlled models almost by chance. One lunchtime, Shunsaku Tamiya noticed one of his designers, Fumito Taki, driving an electric radio-controlled car around. He’d fitted a battery-electric drive to a Tamiya F1 car kit, and the result was just what the boss had been looking for. The company’s first radio-controlled model had been a Sherman tank in 1974 and, inspired by Taki’s efforts, the first car, a Porsche 934 in 1976. The scale body of the Porsche was based on a plastic kit that had received critical acclaim but not great commercial success.
Oh man! Thanks for the memories! Tamiya RC was my obsession as a kid in the late 70s and early 80s. Started off racing the Tamiya LP500S Countach at my local indoors RC club (using foam tyres, stippled with quick drying liquid silicone) man that was intense fun with no quarter given or taken! Moved on to buggys and started with holiday buggy then sand scorcher, Ford Ranger and a Tamiya Rough Rider. Enjoyed that trip down memory lane! Cheers 👍👏👏👏♥️
We used to have a track in my town that closed down about 10 years ago. Everyone used to go there to race nitro and electric classes and I haven't seen anyone out with RC since then. I know there's probably 50 or so people with massive collections stuffed away in their basement or attic or something and I am still waiting for the day for them to show up at a yard sale or on Marketplace. I have alerts setup on everything. There's so many Losi and Associated models I've been wanting. I want to relive that early '00s late '90s experience I could never afford. edit: I just realized this video is 4 years old lol. Bodyshell and possibly the car used to belong to graham allsop. I recognized the paint scheme and inpole stickers. Sent him the link he's had a look and said it deffi was one of his. He's an HB 1/8th team driver now. Fair to say that B 3 won a fair few races
For those that don't know. The Tamiya late model Black Foot. Was a combination of the Subaru Brat and the Ford F150 Ranger. I don't know if they made a re-pop Subaru Brat. But it is the same type of chassis it came with.
its not a fanboy thing, the RWD RC10 with longer front A-arms and suspension tuning is a really nice handling buggy. everyone and their brother have been near cloning it for decades. 2nd gen had the wider fronts with their stealth transmission, you'll find the B3 to be a really nice driver too. the two early Tamiya on road, definite shelf queens to auction off. it'd different if they were good old BoLink (now RJspeed) or Associated on road pan cars that you can still get parts for, really fun to drive on smooth pavement.
I'm not familiar with the RC10, but it does look like a nice bit of kit! I don't do shelf queens.... you may as well just buy a diecast model if it's gonna sit on a shelf

The RC10b2 at 18:00 u need to take rear wing off to get body off, it just pulls up out of 2 holes that go straight down into rear shock tower!
Yes, realised that afterwards. Also wasn't aware it's a pretty rare B3 Factory Team!
Yes, Tamiya were good at re using chassis' and bodies to make different rigs.
Blinding find that is so awesome you are so lucky
Thanks Martin, it was a good find... but cost me a lot!
its not a fanboy thing, the RWD RC10 with longer front A-arms and suspension tuning is a really nice handling buggy. everyone and their brother have been near cloning it for decades.
Nice one Phil! I was glued to the screen, waiting for each gem to be revealed! Amazing haul, I would truly be happy to own most of them - as for my favourite, simply ALL of the classic Tamiyas. I'm really looking forward to the run videos that are in the pipeline! :)
Thanks Mark, I knew you would enjoy it! Certified Tamiya Fan! The Hilux is so nice, I've never seen one close up!
Ooohhh the 4tech!
Looking forward to running that
mmmm team associated RC 10 thankyou :D
