Used to race the early grp chassis tamiya f1 on carpet. Brilliant when setup, total pig to drive otherwise. Rear diffuser gave downforce too!
Close racing when we kept to tight rules. 3 off us went nose to tail from first bend for 5mins right to the wire in one final! Probably the best period in rc racing I remember experiencing.
Any main suprmarket car park is usually empty by 5pm every sunday,
good place to run and still plenty of light this time of year :)
I used to race on road oval and direct drive cars are the quickest accelerating and most sensitive steering cars on the market and they're very fragile so you got to be on your toes when you drive them but once you master the set-up they're unbeatable on the track!
David Jenkins
Awesome 😎
Thanks for watching 👊🏻
Nice just picked up a second hand F103
f103 should be on your list next, there unbelievable with the wider tyres, especially on foams.
We found rubber tyres to be useless. I raced F103s for years and still have them. Indoor carpet racing with foams and traction compound. Best racing ever and won lots of money in the Tamiya cup as well as a Qld title. Very cheap car to run also. Cheers ...
I will be adding a gyro to my f 1, for the spin out on full take off, add a gyro to it and should help keep it straight when you want it quick
Henry Adusei
Oh wow that’s awesome 😍👊🏻
If you can’t clear the asphalt of the pebbles, I definitely recommend making a small shield for the gears out of left over body lexan. I went through a few gear sets before working that one out.
Adam Douglas
Oh that’s a great shout Adam, yeah that makes a lot of sense buddy 😊👊🏻
surface doesn't seem the best for the f104 needs to be really smooth, once there dialed there addictive.
Chris Nolan
Yes 100% Chris, but as you say I can imagine them being so much fun on a proper track 👊🏻
That looks quick with just the silver can in it... It'll drive lovely on a smooth bit of tarmac. Keep it up Glenn.
Gary Rawlins
Thanks buddy, I’ve been looking for a place to run one ever since I made this video, not found anything yet but still looking lol 😊👊🏻
Great power, speed and agility!
the stock tamiya tires arnt great but will do fine for just having fun in local car park, a big help with these cars is add some negative expo into your controller too smooth out your imputs ,some basic settings are negative -15% on steering and around the same on throttle to smooth out the power and put the biggest pinion on that the book says too bog it down from low speed too help cut/controll wheel spin , it helps smooth the acceleration big time just wanting too help you out mate as there wicked fast cars but most guys over power them and spin out all day and get pissed off really fast and sell them , but with a stock motor and nice set up these cars are beast ,enjoy
bradley burge
Wow thanks for the great info buddy 😎
I’ll definitely do another F1 running video at some point in the future, hopefully it will be better action than this one 😊👊🏻
Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends any time mate ,also add 1 or 2 degree toe out on the front wheels helps make it very stable and a loose ball diff is the hot ticket ,right at the point were its about too start too slip but dont let it ,, its a fine line but tight is like running a locked diff and spin out really easy, the other 90% is all in the fingers hahhhahahaha
Great video Glenn, wow what a quick car! Like the rest of your viewers are saying I would love to see this on a dedicated race track. You might convert me to electric yet!! Cheers from Australia keep up the good work.
KO mountain biking and R/C
Awesome 😎
Thanks for watching 👊🏻
Very nice. Seems like there was a lot of rocks and definitely need a smoother surface. Thing is going to be very quick on the right surface. :)
Interesting. Looking forward to the next run.
Great vid as always Glenn
Awesome Glenn 👍😀
Cool!
Yeah Glenn, nice vid ! Foam tyres on that old surface, the rubber needs a better surface or like someone else said, a big BRUSH !! haha! we've been racing these cars for 5 years and yes , you need to glue the tyres lol !
Smooth asphalt..
Very interesting little kit, Ive toyed with idea of one for a long time. We have a public park near by with a tennis court I'd love to see it flat out on that kind of surface. Great work sir as usual.
ZERO'S HOBBIES
Thanks for watching 😊👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends Thank you for the videos and the trips down memory lane. I do t have a lot of people around who have the same passion for the classics like I do. ;)
try to find some proper blacktop tarmac , that roadstone surface will chunk the tyres really quickly . , dont glue the tyres , use double sided tyre tape (it will/should be in the kit) , play around with the diff and weight distribution too as they controls the off and on power over or understeer and , as mentioned below, add a touch of steering expo . once you find its happy spot you will love it . you can get rubber tyres for outdoor use . have fun
I have a tso20 gt kit I got from rc car kings in Minnesota in 2007 the kit was awesome to build grips and steers like nobodies business lol based off the f1 chassis
Michael Stewart
Excellent I don’t know that kit, I’ll have a look 😊👊🏻
i do have some of those. from 1990 too i think
Polico Paul
Excellent thanks for watching buddy 🤩👊🏻
Buggy!?!? Lol! Great video!
Lee Wildman
Lol 😂I know sorry 😬🔫
Thats so awesome I need one lol
STEVO D 313
I was thinking about you and that awesome indoor track you ran your Subaru on, one of these cars would be awesome in there 😎👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends Ya my buddy had that 6 wheel f36 we were running on it, lots of fun n this would be perfect
Thanks!!
Not bad. Dial some expo into your steering, dial the punch way down on the esc, get some tires that suit the surface, and Bob's your uncle.
I think you need foam tires for more grip.
A Beauty brother
The reason I never got one because of finding somewhere to run it. But boy does it swap ends very quickly.
Bas Boy RC
Yeah I’m still looking for a suitable place to run another but not found anything yet 👊🏻
The solar panels on the wall of the building behind you crack me up. Talk about giving up function for form....
Do RC
Lol 😂 I never noticed them 👊🏻
The ground is kinda rough but 👍 nice run of the f 1. I just got my today can’t wait start the build
Henry Adusei
Excellent hope you enjoy the build my friend 😊👊🏻
❤️👍
Very nice my friend definitely need some type ASDA Morrisons car park tarmac super smooth😊👍😎🇬🇧
Leons rc hobbys
Yep I can think of a load of places in the uk I could run an F1 car, but I’ll be damed if I can find one over here 😂👊🏻
Very nice.. =-)..
Cheers Glenn, is that the gravel kicking up making that noise? Think you might need to run it in you usual tarseal carpark.. such i nice looking car, im going to add an f1 to my collection soon.
Matt McLafferty
Excellent buddy, I’m looking forward to seeing that 😊👊🏻
Enjoyed this one!! A cool and pretty rare tamiya right??
hybrid32494
Cheers buddy, no this one is fairly recent it’s pretty much the latest chassis design 👊🏻
Speed not bad, it’s low , small stones don’t help 👍🏻
i would think over there in the UK there's gotta be an indoor oval or circuit for these.
Any way to reinforce the font and back wings?
Hey i might be too late but where can I buy one if they are available?
I figured it out the issue with the diff. I had to tighten it
Henry Adusei
Excellent buddy 😎👊🏻
The problem was that I don’t like reading manual instructions I was only going of on pictures that was why I couldn’t figure it out
Henry Adusei
We’ve all done that before 😬
Glad you got it fixed 👊🏻
TAMIYA Legends thanks 😊
Great vid and if you have a decent tx with dual rate adjustment then turn the steering servo rates down
Will make it turn in less sharp 👍🏻
Where to buy?
Nice vid, I just myself a new 1/10 F1 ,just wondering what's the best brushless motor for it? Like how many turns or kv
Did yiou get this out again?
adrian harrison
No I didn’t unfortunately I moved it on, but I’ll hopefully get hold of another at some point 😬
I’ve now found better area’s to run one 🚗💨💨💨💨
That’s a shame as it looked to be quite fast.
I have been looking at getting a Tamiya f1 for some time, that’s how I found this clip.
adrian harrison
There awesome if you have the right surface to run on 😎👊🏻
Think them rocks a little hard on the front of the car
I love these cars but they just don't have the traction. I raced a Tamiya one back in 2002. It was fun.
You need to run Foam Tires on that Crap asphalt, Plus it looks like you need to sweep all the loose little rocks from there. That will clean up the driving surface for a bit more traction..... That F-1 is direct drive RWD, just like a Pan Car....... Best if you take it to a dedicated On Road Track.... that's where that 104 chassis will shine.
Also all tires should be glued. hahahaaaaa...... Take it to a real RC Track.........and post another video when you do,.
Gene H
Thanks for watching 😊👊🏻
try F1 sponge tyres
You need a better spot for your F1, sponge tires and the steering is too wide, only very light steering- that's the trick buddy - great car !
Tamiyaa
Thanks for the info buddy this was a big learning curve from start to finish lol 😂
Max speed?
Looks hard to drive and twitchy.....awesome build though
Alan Rogers
Yeah I definitely want another go with an F1 car, just don’t have a surface for it over here 😬
Imagine adding manual transmission tech to formula RC cars to make them emulate real F1 racing? It's available via US patent: US 11,148,065 B2. Works well for cars that are too powerful for small tracks.
Get it in a shopping mall lol just before closing.
Matthew Ridgewell
Sounds like a plan buddy 😊👊🏻
Why you don’t test all on and off road cars on tracks ? It’s much better in my opinion
If you really want a true flat surface, find a Roller Derby Team. Ask them if you could share the floor for a bit or,ask who to talk to about the pad
Not sure I would call it a “buggy” - but sure okay….
