    My grandparents bought one new back in '94. Even though it looked kind of space aged, with those second row bucket seats, rear air conditioning, it was super comfortable with high seating and big windows. Plus it was Toyota reliable running for years with just regular oil changes until they traded it in the early 2000s for a loaded Camry.

    For a van over 30 years old, it's actually aged well considering having it's own version of a pano roof with dual moon roofs. Not bad.

    I still have a ‘93 Previa LE and it runs great to this very day 10/29/2023 with 295k miles on the original engine and transmission. Design is truly space age both inside and outside. I love this van. 🚐

    Unfortunately it failed catastrophically during the IIHS offset-chrashtest.

    I remember when the Toyota Previ was first intro'd in the USA. I thought it was Toyota's best looking van. Given its drivetrain layout, I could imagine it competing against the Chevy Astro and Ford Aerostar, which were front engine, rear wheel drive, but I didn't see it competing against Chrysler's minivan, which were front engine, front wheel drive.

    I BADLY wanted this back when we were shopping for our 1991 Volkswagen Vanagon Carat, but it proved to be too small for a wheelchair lift. Here is the original promotional video...........ua-cam.com/video/L23cPlc0Ab0/v-deo.html 0:37...........Yeah, like build quality, dependability, reliability.............

    Very nice this Toyota Previa

  • @frjer11
    @frjer11 11 місяців тому

    It's interesting that the Previa gets called innovative when the basic mid-engine rear drive setup is taken from the previous, boxy Toyota van. It's only because its predecessor was invisible in the market that the Previa seemed novel.

      Exactly! Time has proven putting engine under the front seat is a stupid idea. Why? Nobody copied it, and even Toyota has abandoned it :)

      @@tomjanowski8584 Back when I was growing up in China, in 60s, 70s, and 80s, we had those kind of vans. They were the only kind of vans we had: we called that style "nose-less", here the official name is "cab over". We called those vans "bread loaf vans" since that was what they resembled. After I came over here in late 80s I found American vans all had "noses". And those Japanese auto makers, when they tried to compete in the minivan market, they slowly adopted American way and abandoned their bread loaves :)
