- A ride down a Toronto street that now sees more bicycles than car trips. I then head east into downtown and eventually ride up north to Bay & Davenport on my Rize Fixie single speed ebike.
Recorded in 4K at 60 FPS with a DJI Pocket 2 on April 26, 2022.

Most automobile congestion in the downtown area is caused by out of town commuters. This wasn't the case when Toronto was at peak civilization in the mid nineties, and prior to much of the GTAs urban sprawl happened. A congestion tax will arrive sooner or later.
And dofo just wants to sprawl even more. Oh well, at least he’s building the Ontario line.
Well he delayed the line that was going to be built anyway only to re-launch it and take credit for it.... I'm not giving him any credit for any of this lol
Very true. Love the video.
Downtown Toronto is too crowded for cars
The solution is to just get rid of the cars. Implement traffic calming, congestion pricing, and improve transit and cycling infrastructure, so the only ones driving are those who need to (rather than choose to).
@@meltingtomato however we arent going to do that, because car companies have way more infulence over any transit entusits and stuff, and trying to do it will make them angry and they will use there power to return the cars.
@@Humulator It's an uphill battle to say the least, but it's not impossible. If Toronto managed to stop the freeways in the 70s, Toronto can pull off a proper improvement to the urban realm. After all, Amsterdam didn't have all those bike lanes for free - they had to fight tooth and nail for them.
Thank you for this interesting video!
I wish I was in the GTA right now but my dad does not have a car right now his car broke down on Canada day Thanks Johnny for this residential neighborhood in Toronto tour 🏠👣🚶♂️🦶🏻👨🏻🦵🏻👟🇨🇦
You are so lucky that you do not need a car to get around
Just passed 999 Queen St. W, which in my day was "the looney bin". Cool to see, thanks again for a fun trip!
Hey Johnny 😎 👍. That noise from the Rize is most likely the Battery! Just put a piece of foam rubber in the battery compartment and Voila! Should stop the rattle.
My Movin battery was rattling when I got it and I put a small piece of foam rubber on the side of the battery.
On one side there is a piece but not both sides.
Hope that's the remedy 😎👍
I did the exact thing and it worked out for me
I'll have to look into it! I'm still gonna ditch this bike though lol
Thanks for the tip and hope the recovery is going well!
@@JohnnyStrides Thanks so much 👍. And I think selling it is a Go. You have The Beast and the Scooters plus your Single Speed. Pretty good line up. 😎
Awesome.
Great video, cheers!
That one home reminds me of the movie ‘ My Big Fat Greek wedding’
When is Johnny coming back to Scarborough area On his bike 🚲
Yeah! We love Scarborough. 🇨🇦🎼
I just bought a new e-bike from Amego bikes on Richard street.
Yes
nice whip, maybe try raising the seat so you stay more seated, this might relieve some pressure from your arms.
I wish I could do what you do but you're very very educated with all the buildings I don't think it's an easy job but it's not a hard one either and it seems like you really enjoy it where I cannot stand my job but because of disabilities I cannot get anything else at this point in my life
".... good job idiot!"
Brilliant, you *are* a Torontonian!
Well I would also be one if I were the driver 🤣
Only in Toronto does a title like this seem shocking
Or literally anywhere else in North America except Montreal and very few other places... 🙄
@@JohnnyStrides Montreal? Where you can comfortably bike for 3 months of the year? HAHAHAHA
Timestamps please?
What an awful biking experience, ugly architecture, horrible roads, unaware civilians. Yikes
It's a residential area... I'm not sure what you were expecting but based on your other comments I don't think your elevator quite goes all the way to the top.
@@JohnnyStrides have you been to other cities? It doesn’t matter what zoning the area is, that is one ugly and chaotic place for a bike ride
I look at the success of Shaw St from the other side of the coin.
Yes Shaw St has less cars on it only because drivers are cautious about driving on street where cyclists completely ignore the cycling infrastructure put in place, don't respect the rules of the road and in general are bad cyclists, as demonstrated by the cyclists running the stop signs in both directions @7:32, @13:38, @29:15 and etc
If this is going to work we have to educate cyclist, the future politicians of this city might not be so cyclist friendly and will remove bike lanes not add to them.
Or, ya know, we could just make stop signs be yields for bikes because bikes don't have huge A-frame pillars that block line of sight. Hell, just get ride of the stop signs and make proper traffic calming so cars are forced to go slower.
@@meltingtomato I don't see how giving cyclist free reign of road is going to work.
The stop signs, red lights and all the other road rules are there for every body to obey and respect. If a cyclist (or pedestrian) treat them like a suggestion to yield and they collide with a car, the car will always win. That's a dangerous game of chicken I'm no willing to play.
@@paulcatarino2209 Very simply - it's not giving people on bikes free reign. Rather, it's just bringing the priority down for cars, while up for everyone else. The whole point is, as you said, to have drivers drive more cautiously (as opposed to driving without thinking). After all, they are behind the wheel of a several ton vehicle with huge blind spots. No need for chaos - there are videos from around the world showing intersections with no stop signs in action.
With regards to bikes following the rules of the road, yes, it does happen. We need to be mindful that the people yelling the loudest about how people on bikes ride are the same people who drive 130 on the highway and change lanes without signaling.
@@meltingtomato "to have drivers drive more cautiously (as opposed to driving without thinking" although true I did not say that, this video is about cycling.
What I said was "cyclists completely ignore the cycling infrastructure put in place, don't respect the rules of the road and in general are bad cyclists, as demonstrated by the cyclists running the stop signs in both directions @7:32, @13:38, @29:15 and etc"
I'm not advocating for more cars or more bikes on the road, we should all be able to share it.
All I'm commenting on is that in the 45 min video posted there were at least 3 times where you could clearly see that actions of the cyclists were violating the rules of the road.
@@paulcatarino2209 hey umm, watch litterly any 'not just bikes' channel video, youll see how in the netherlands, bikes and walking are number one and its much better. in one of the bike videos, he said they should only be yeilds, it takes so much more energy to stop every 2 seconds and to start the bike again. i wouldnt blame the bikers, its to hard to do stop every 2 seconds when you dont have to.
