2:27 short shaft? you can always take the shaft out of the handle that you're replacing, which saves having to cut anything.

Thanks that was reallt helpful however what if the handle is in a lock position and the key is broken and cannot be unlocked? I am trying to fix my windows in my living room
you should still be able to remove the broken handle and insert the new spline to open the window and then fix it properly

What I really needed to know, is how to remove that cap you put it at the end, you mentioned drilling, is that the only option? Undoing and doing up screws didn't really need explaining, but getting at the screws is more important? Was handy to note that new handle must also be in open position as lock will be from old handle.
use a very small screwdriver with a flat head or a strong needle. some you can push in on one side the the other side pops out

Hi how can I change the handle on the window when the handle is locked and I have lost the key? Have new handles on the way and your video has been really helpful but my concern is getting to the bottom screw to detach the handle, would appreciate some advice please
if need be cut or break the handle to access the screw, i have done this a few times
clear guide. what if , the handle works and open well but the window still won't open, like it got stuck to one of the side latch ? thanks

drill it out is probably the quickest way if you can
hi Mike.tried to replace handle but when i took the old one off. there was something loose inside the window appiture, so the new lock would not connect with the inside. any ideas ?

Hope you can help, my upvc handle lock has sheard inside and come away from the fixing.
I have taken off the two little covers that expose (which I thought would be standard screw bolts) no such luck!
All I see is a washer type flat face with a centre hole, I thought it might be an allen key, but I have tried fitting various sizes with no luck. In your experience, do you know this type of fixing?

My windows are locked shut, and I have lost the keys. Will this work for me? Also, do you have links for these replacements? Funnily enough I just won 20 quid Amazon vouchers!

My window lock has broken to the point where the handle just turns up and down but it doesn't actually unlock the window so i can't open it to gain access to the side strip - any ideas?
would need to see pictures of it really to advise but really try and break the mechanism down as much as possible and if there is access to any screws under the handle area remove those and see what it revails

I can’t get at the bottom screw because the handle won’t swing up when I push the button in. Any advice on how to get the covered screw out?

Ive undone the two screws but the Center piece wont come out
try a little spray of wd40 or similar and leave it for a few minutes and it should come out
I want to replace mine as the lock doesn't work (handle is fine) but how exactly do I remove that little chrome cap that covers the screw?
use a needle or thin ply tool to pop it off

Try some bluetak to lift the blanking cap out without damaging it any way. It’s not my original idea, YT works wonders.

Our problem is that the shaft just spins in the barell. 😳
sounds like the mechanism needs looking at. sometimes that is removable and you might get a replacement at the hardware store like b&q if you are in the UK
