- Do you love the dragons on the HBO Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon, but have a difficult time understanding which Targaryen or Velaryon is bonded with them? Watch this video to do a quick breakdown of which dragons are on the field currently ahead of the Dance of the Dragons, a brief description, and who their rider is. House Targaryen owns the majority, with House Velaryon also in the mix.

I just want to say many thanks for the narrating fire and blood because I have listened to them, in preparation for watching Hot D. It's been much easier to listen to the dance of the dragons then read it because I remember I stopped reading halfway through one of Jaehaerys's chapters. Can't wait to see more dragons!

I'll be doing WHAT IFs again. I just tackled some different videos I felt like doing since I did a lot of the WHAT IF scenarios I really wanted to do. Thankfully I have great subs & community members who suggest new scenarios they want to see - which I can tackle for sure!
I'm super into The Cannibal. I didn't mention it because I don't know if they'll actually show it, but they'd be very wise to add that dragon in particular in the mix.
Do you think they'll add in Silverwing, Sheep Stealer? Tyraxes and Moondancer have sad stories, I think they'll have to keep at least Moondancer in.
Honestly, I don't know. If I had to use my GUT and guess, I'd say Silverwing yes - Sheep Stealer no. Moondancer and Tyraxes will be in there for sure I think, but we'll see how that shakes out.
What if Robb Stark had managed to rescue Sansa from Kingslanding (by sending undercover men and spies) before stannis attacked and married her to a powerful lord from the Vale hence winning the lords of the Vale to his side?
the lords of the Vale, led by the Royces, always wanted to join Robb in the war, they even pestered Lysa about it, but she forbid any of them from leaving, and refused any army from entering the bloody gate. Unless Robb Stark also sent an assassin to kill his aunt, there is no way the knights of the Vale are joining.

@@markjrbessett6429 Oh geesh, good question....Depends on the dragon, I suppose. I'd say Robb because I'd imagine strategically he'd utilize it the best. Joffrey would be the most impetuous dragonrider maybe ever.

All dragons are sequential hermaphrodites, capable of both laying eggs and fertilizing the eggs of any other dragon. "She-dragon" is just a term the those less knowledgeable in dragonlore than Septon Barth of Maester Aemon call the beasts who have been confirmed to actually lay eggs.
Magister hit it on the nose - honestly the genders are just not relevant to me when I refer to dragons, so I kind of play it fast and loose with pronouns since they don't seem to really matter much. I usually just try to use their names rather then he/her since it avoids stuff like this, hah.

I agree with you mostly on that - I have a feeling they may do the Tessarion blue flame...well, at least I hope so. This is exactly the kind of thing they'd cut from dragon details to save cash and time...and honestly, it isn't a big deal if we don't get it. Kind of like Targ purple eyes.

atm there exist more; Tyraxes as Joffrey's dragon, Moondancer als Baela's (she was mentioned in the 6th episode), Silverwing along with Vermithor as well as the wild dragons and (if they stick to the book) young Aegon's Stormcloud
There are more dragons technically, yes, but I'm not totally sure what they're going to show on the show - so I'm really trying to go by what (as far as I know) is going to appear. I may have missed about Moondancer (didn't realize I did I guess), but the others I didn't mention since the show hasn't acknowledged them.
@@TheBattProductions thanks for the explanation! The show producers confirmed the wild dragons, and said that (as far as I remember) there will be 17 dragons in total in the show. That's 2 less than in the book, so I'm assuming that they're cutting Shrykos and Morghul because they have the least impact on the plot. If my informations and memories are right ofc
I really wanna see Vermithor and Silverwing😊 but so far Caraxes and Vhagar are my faves. I really wonder what is gonna happen to Seasmoke since Laenor isn’t dead.🤔🤔
I can't wait to see them (but honestly, I can't wait to see all of them)...Caraxes is my favorite no doubt. I feel he's likely so nimble compared to ol Vhagar.

I'm curious about Seasmoke with Laenor gone as well...I'm convinced it's like a marriage where yeah Laenor & Seasmoke are "married" now I guess, but like any marriage/love, it fades when not tended to...so if Laenor abandons Seasmoke, I think it'll get another rider over time without him needing to die forreal.

And bro i was wondering that the second HotD kept him alive. Hopefully they don’t use it as an excuse and to cut redacted* completely out like GoT did to adult Howland Reed. But redacted* storyline is too good to not tell. In one of the trailers GRRM said “While the Valyrians practised their blood and fire magic, it didn’t matter if you pronounce the spell correctly, if you sacrifice for the right god. What matters is your relationship, especially with dragons.”

writers said we are going to see 9 living dragons in season 1..but we are getting at least 10
The flames of each dragon matches their body color right or is that the Eragon dragons?
As far as I can recall, they pretty much just have the standard fire we see from each dragon - but Tessarion is a rare one. I love it.
in the show Laenor is still alive, so Seasmoke still does have a rider. Death is the only way to break that bond, and even when seperated by great distances, a dragon will always return to their rider, there will be examples of this later on in the war. Seasmoke will follow Laenor to the ends of the earth, and will only return to driftmark, or dragonstone, upon Laenors actual death.
Basically, I'm just not sure that will be the case in the show is what I'm getting at. We'll see and perhaps I'll be wrong, but not sure it's going to manifest itself in the show that way unless Laenor returns...which I don't know why he would. Maybe they'll do a throwaway line that Daemon heard Laenor was killed in Essos or something and that'll free up Seasmoke. I don't believe the Addam theory people have about him, so I'm going with that!
@@TheBattProductions If Seasmoke just chills on Driftmark and doesent follow Laenor, theyre gonna have a hard time later explaining why other dragons seem to be able to find their riders, even when wounded and over great distances.
I'm really wondering what will be happening in terms of Seasmoke. Its a big question mark for me considering the bond dragons and their riders have.
I am wondering myself, Alyssa. I am pretty giddy about being able to use the label "slut dragon" and it actually be appropriate.
My guess is that the bond between dragon and rider is similar to like a marriage where you're in love, but that can fade if you don't put work into it - and can get another rider.
I suppose we'll have to see, eh...the show/books have been wildly all over the place with how strong that bond is. In the books/some show examples, it seems dragons mostly get over their riders' deaths without a hitch. But then you have Drogon who literally burned down the Throne for Dany & then carried her body away to *possibly* have her re-animated (Drogon is wildly smart apparently...I hate you, D&D).
I'm super curious how they tackle this!

I like your analogy about the dragon bond being similar to marriage but yeah, with the extreme route D&D (fuck - and I STRESS this - D&D) went on dragon intelligence it makes it hard to tell what the canon is 😅
I'd wager the simplest way to not draw criticism and confusion is for Laenor to die and that having been somehow mentioned when Addam rocks up. Though there are incredibly few people who could mention such a thing on-screen (Daemon or Rhaenyra - since they're the only ones who knew about Laenor's survival.)
Or, Addam is Laenor and Corlys somehow forgot what his son looked like lmfao. Perhaps a moustache and a monacle come into play 😆

dragons are known to be tied to their rider unless the rider died. can seasmoke intuition kicks in that his rider is living somewhere and follow him there?
Possibly! I'm really not sure how they're going to handle that honestly. Maybe Seasmoke picks Laenor up and he rides back to help Rhaenyra under the guise of another. Not sure how they'll handle it!

In the earlier episode, we were told that there were 12 dragon, and half belong to the Valerions. 1 is seasmoke, another belongs to one twin, the other was vaghar, thr other belonged to their queen, and 2 annacounted for. I am guessing that those 2 belong to vaemon n his brother
Vaemond and Coryls were never dragonriders. They only let Laena and Laenor get dragons because their mother was a Targaryen whose own dragon Meleys laid eggs. The Velaryons may be a Valyrian house but they were never dragonlords. It is widely believed that only the dragonlord families had the blood bond needed to control dragons and that lesser Valyrians could not. Of course, in the books the Targaryens and Velaryons have been interbreeding for a long time. Coryls and Vaemond are probably descended from a brother of Velaena Velaryon (Aegon the Conqueror's mother) whose own mother was a Targaryen.

From what I understand, Laenor and Laena are the only blood Velayons that have been dragonriders.

Seasmoke is available as far as we know. His rider is gone and the books support a new rider eventually ::shrug::

You left out what may be the oldest and largest dragon of all: The Cannibal. We are never told its size for sure, but it must be massive as the Smallfolk of Dragonstone insist that this beast was already living on the island even before Aenar the Exile brought the first Targaryen dragons and Dragon eggs to live there. Maester's doubt those claims but they are often wrong. As a wild dragon it might not have been bred specifically for war and so could be smaller than the Targaryens dragons (like Przewalski's horse is smaller than a knightly Destrier), but since dragons keep growing all their lives and Cannibal could be older than Balerion he must be pretty big.
I didn't leave it out - I just don't know that it's actually going to be in the show or not. If they're smart, they will insert it in the show because it'd be the first cannibal dragon we're aware of on the shows. Also I don't think it's the oldest tor largest anyway - but still pretty impressive. Pretty safe bet that Vhagar is the winner of both of those honors!
Cannibal isn't the oldest or largest dragon. He would be nearly 300 years old at the time of the Dance if he was, as thr Doom happened 102 years before Aegon's conquest, the Dance was around 129 years after the conquest, the Targaryens moved moved to Dragonstone 12 years before the Doom and he would have to have the time to grow up enough to gain that reputation. As gravity would eventually crush him, I doubt very much he's bigger than Vhagar.
Try to explain to me Laenor isnt dead therefore Seasmoke can't bond to another rider? The show needs to address this issue. (Note love the show just is a massive issue interms of established lore)
I think Seasmoke probably can bond to another rider. Not sure actual death is the cutoff for bonding with dragons, honestly. I think there's fluidity there to some degree. We'll have to see if all dragons techincally are slut dragons and can bond with multiple people, but rarely anyone ever tries once the dragon has been bonded. Kind of like being in a marriage...yeah you're bound together, but maybe you can stray if you don't put work into the relationship?

The oldest and the largest dragon at that time is Cannibal. Unfortunately it was not a Targaryn dragon. It was an enemy to targaryn dragons.
I don't think that's accurate. Vhagar is #1 in both of those categories, imo, based on how I interpret the books. I know some smallfolk *think* the Cannibal is #1, but they're super unreliable compared to the other info we know about Vhagar.

It's not unproven. Vhagar was born on 54 BC. She was very much younger than caraxes and balerion.

By all reports in the book by Maesters, they don't believe The Cannibal was the age/size you're claiming here. Just the smallfolk spread those rumors.
Now if you believe the smallfolk's words over the Maesters - that's your prerogative. And don't get me wrong: the Maesters may be full of it. But at best, it's subjective. However, if you were to check more official sources within the Universe, Vhagar is likely bigger and older than The Cannibal.
But ultimately it doesn't matter - they were both big, old, and awesome.
