  • We've talked a lot about House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 2 already (for good reason), but today we're going to talk a little more about some of the things we didn't elaborate quite enough from our S2E2 Recap video this past Sunday.
    We'll talk about Aemond Targaryen's coin, why finding Cheese could have been a lot easier for Aegon II & Otto Hightower, how Alicent is a terrible mother, the lore behind Rhaenyra seeking out Visenya Targaryen, and who really won the battle of Erryk vs. Arryk Cargyll.
    Find out more ahead of Episode 3 where we see a lot of Daemon Targaryen and Harrenhal to gain a hold in Westeros for the Queen.

    It seems Erryk could not handle the grief of having been forced to kill his brother whom he loved dearly and so he commited Sepukku. He apologized to Rhaenyra for being unable to serve her any further.

    As an identical twin, I would not be able to live with the fact that I killed my literal other half 😩. This scene hit so hard for me.

      Okay, that's fair. I mean then I have to say...like once you see your twin, wouldn't you think you'd stop mid-fight?

    While different, Otto kinda reminds me of Tywin. I can't wait to see, as you said, for Aegon to see just how big of a mistake it was to dismiss him.

      For sure - similar in ways for sure. Tywin had a different level of power in his pocket, but they both generally operate in a similar way. Win wars with ink instead of swords eh.

      @@christinestevenson4304 Actually I think Tywin put the right person on the Throne (Robert). He of course didn't put Joffrey on the Throne (that was really Cersei) but I suppose there wasn't a lot of choice there. We know Tywin would've done away with Joffrey it got bad enough, I think...even though he's all about family.

    I feel like Alicent’s lack of a maternal instinct, or any kind of gentleness might stem from her being raise by a cold in calculating dad in Otto Hightower. Think about it, it sounds like her mom died when she was really young, so she never got that motherly love. She was instead being raised by her dad, who is basically grooming her to be the king’s new wife, since she was a little girl, her father basically forced her to have sex with an old man for the sake of the “realm” and she had no say about it. It’s duty.
    I think that’s why she’s unable to support Helena who didn’t want to be paraded around like that .
    I also think that her saying that Aegon is still malleable but appeared to freeze or be clueless when a clear opportunity presented itself is proof that she simply does not know how to show maternal love. She might want to, but doesn’t know how.

    • @islasullivan3463
      @islasullivan3463 16 днів тому +2

      Agreed and she also became a mother at around 16-17 at most and her children were the product of marital grape. So she was forced to have children when she was also a child with the people who should be her supporting her, Viserys and Otto, not being very present.
      Aegon’s birth likely would have also pushed her and Rhaenyra even further a part, so she might have resented him a bit bc of this.
      And the cherry on top is the fear that Otto instilled in her that Rhaenyra would kill her children. Causing her to push her children to be perfect even more than her father did with her.

    • @TheBattProductions
      @TheBattProductions  14 днів тому +1

      I think that's probably true, for sure. I think there are definitely reasons for Alicent is the way she is, but nonetheless she's pushing that trauma forward and not protecting them instead.

    I think it made perfect sense that the good twin killed himself. If it was the bad twin, he probably would’ve lied he was the good one and get close to her and kill her. He said sorry bcuz he was going to kill himself. He couldn’t live with himself for killing his brother but he did his duty of protecting his queen. The bad twin wouldn’t have addressed her as queen.

    Big spoilers for Fire and Ice and the end of HotD!!!!*****
    I felt like the symbolism of Aemond covering his one good eye with the coin is more foreshadowing about how he’ll die. Covering an eye with a coin is a common death practice to send a soul off. And in the book we learn that Daemond kills his nephew by stabbing him though his one good eye, over the gods eye lake near harenhall, which just so happens to be looming over his shoulder in the background with the wall tapestry. I think the coin was just knocked from the table, but he was able to put the clues together of the secret passage and the missing money on the map that the assassins were in his room at one point and after him.

    For me, it's the same with Otto. After using his daughter like a pawn in the game, she seeks a moment with her father, and Otto rejects her. After she being like a "Teenbride" and having children with a Man she doesn't want, people are still quite unfair to Alicent. I still hate her, though 😅

      It didnt seem to me like Allicent was "forced" to be with Viserys in Season 1. She is clearly shown embracing him in bed, pretending to "love" him. She knew marrying him would give her the power and status that her family always wanted.
      Rather it was Viserys who got fooled into thinking Allicent cared about him, and had a bond with him. It was his emotional vulnerability and guilt for what he did to Aemma that caused him to fall into such a trap.

    The coins were to show that Blood and Cheese came through that room because Blood stole them and obviously missed one. I think Aemond realized that they were probably there for him but ended up getting the prince instead of him. Hence being upset later, he knows it was his fault that this happened. Not only did he start the war but he not being there was the reason the prince was killed. In my opinion.

    • @TheBattProductions
      @TheBattProductions  16 днів тому

      See that's what I thought on a surface level, but I'm not sure that's all it is. Because, of course me being a silly fellow, think that it's possible an assassin would be poor and just would steal any loose change found/they'd stumble into the wrong room, so I think it's dangerous for Aemond to assume Daemon sent them for him based on that. I have to imagine the symbol on the coin means something, right?

    The coin and aemond is foreshadowing. Coins are placed over people's eyes afte their death. We saw it in GoT. Blood and cheese came to kill him. The camera shows him holding infront of his face just as he would be if he were dead.
    Spoiler:
    The whole scene revolves around his death. His avoidance of it with Blood and Cheese and the future way he meets his demise. Daemon stabs him through the eye with Dark Sister at the Battle of the God's Eye.

    I am a anew subscriber and i liked the video! I feel the same way about the aegon actor! Until this season i was just not caring about him. But now, after episode two, i think he did a great job! I actually teared up when he was bawling at the end! And the fact that he showed hemena more emotion than their mother did was a good nod to him i think. The brother killing himself for what he did was i think better than having him go on! It shows the difference between them and the targaryans who just turn everything into bigger bloodbaths. Alicent just keeps providing rhaenyra was always right about her. Worst mother ever! And being a fan of other franchises, i am so happy they did not turn this one into a shit show like they did. I read the books a long time ago and i don't mind the changes! I thought really the only problem was the big time jumps! I get they didn't know if the fans were going to like the show, but now they have to slow it down if they want to keep it going! Really i king of like it better this way because it has more of a first season got feel! Great video!

    I think the reason Erryk ended his own life is because of a few different things. 1. He killed his brother and was overwhelmed with grief. And 2. He would have been branded a kinslayer, which is like an unforgiveable offense in their culture if I have my facts correct(like how Jaime is a kingslayer in GoT). His life as a knight is his honor, and by tradition he killed his honor by killing his twin.
