I'm no scientist, but if I were to give an educated guess, it'd probably have something to do with our brains thinking there could be potentially life threatening entities looming in the empty Black Voids of these seemingly harmless photos.
It could also have to do with the music playing in the background. Creepy music can make pretty much everything normal come across as scary. Some of these photos aren't as unnerving if you watch the video on mute.
I guess it’s something like “uncanny valley effect”, but for places. Pictures look almost fine, but some little details (or lack of them) make them even creepier than images of “classic” creepy places.
@@BlueeJ Maybe because the music isn’t really the typical music we listen to? Like some creepy music has conflicting chords or it is played with instruments we don’t normally listen to, so it just sounds...strange. The weirdness then turns into unsettling because it’s so different and not what we’re used to, and then unsettling turns into kind of scary.
So do y’all wanna hear something weird? Nothing is more absolutely terrifying to me than: -A big, empty, white room - Operating rooms, medical equipment, etc. - Machinery with a lot of wires I have no idea why, but those things give me the most intense feeling of dread and fear I’ve ever felt, help
Honestly as a kid I had a dream like this and it scared the crap out of me. I woke up in a reality where all the houses were white and everything was washed away from color. White windows, walls, EVERYTHING WAS WHITE. I woke up next to a guy with a ice cream stand, who had some kids with him. He said to stay with him for a while, but I ran to my house. The door was unlocked, and inside there was no furniture. No life. Nothing. All the walls, the floor, everything was just white. Then the man patted me on the back, and then I joined the crowd of kids and then woke up. Even now, I have no idea how my mind created such a living nightmare. Even now, I wonder how I could wake up and think of it as a dream rather than a nightmare, and what possible reason could’ve explained why only the man and us kids would be the only people around.
The feeling of pure dread is what makes some horror movies good. No jumpscares but tension is created and the atmosphere builds up.
@Nicholas Negosian no that's called trauma
I watched a video on that. Video games try to recreate it too to get a longer-lasting scare effect. They call it "true fear."

I want to know the science behind why these photos feel unnerving
I'm no scientist, but if I were to give an educated guess, it'd probably have something to do with our brains thinking there could be potentially life threatening entities looming in the empty Black Voids of these seemingly harmless photos.
It could also have to do with the music playing in the background. Creepy music can make pretty much everything normal come across as scary. Some of these photos aren't as unnerving if you watch the video on mute.
I guess it’s something like “uncanny valley effect”, but for places. Pictures look almost fine, but some little details (or lack of them) make them even creepier than images of “classic” creepy places.
@@jazzydragon4498 Okay. But what triggers our brain to feel scared when scary music plays?
@@BlueeJ Maybe because the music isn’t really the typical music we listen to? Like some creepy music has conflicting chords or it is played with instruments we don’t normally listen to, so it just sounds...strange. The weirdness then turns into unsettling because it’s so different and not what we’re used to, and then unsettling turns into kind of scary.
Me making sure that there are no jumpscares in the video:
The music / ambiance plays a role in this as well
So do y’all wanna hear something weird? Nothing is more absolutely terrifying to me than:
-A big, empty, white room
- Operating rooms, medical equipment, etc.
- Machinery with a lot of wires
I have no idea why, but those things give me the most intense feeling of dread and fear I’ve ever felt, help
It's because any place that looks like that or has those things is never intended to make people feel good... 😳
@@thebaldpizzaman6319 That’s terrifying wtf- that sounds like my worst nightmare
