People say that this is the fear of NOT being alone but I disagree. This is the fear of being completely alone, of seeing remnants of life but never seeing the life. 1:13 i can imagine waiting here for an appointment and no one ever coming, yet you sit and wait until you die of hunger, refusing to go somewhere else, waiting. no one ever finds your skeleton, it sits undisturbed for the rest of time, or until the game resets.
5:20 reminds me of traveling to Missouri as a kid. my family had a farm in the southeast part of the state, which is very flat. Bland nothingness, and not even a pretty nothing. The drive was always boring, and creepy as hell. The road always looked dreadful right before sundown, and I remember I would try to fall asleep before it was night. Staring into the vast darkness of the fields would always unsettle me, and even now large fields and open road just kinda unsettle me.
It’s so always so empty everywhere. Like the only people in the stores are the workers. And there is very few people on the streets. And it’s extremely silent and creepy and I always get that feeling I’m being watched or I see things move in the corner of my eye. It always reminds me of fallout but not as apocalyptic. The place just looks like a huge liminal space
@@fishcakes2947 well for me it was the time I got my first knife I was about 13 and I was walking home from school and right when I was at the door I look at plants since their right next to the door and they look like their about to died and so I went to water the plants and I was about to turn the nob I saw I knife on the ground It was open and I was stuck to the ground like if someone try to stab the ground and as a wise kid I was I hide it because my parents would take it away
That's me litterly and my house is like this when you enter on the right there is our kitchen and on the left our dining room when ever I go in I see things the kitchen leads to a laundry and the door is made of mesh I see things behind the mesh door in our previous home I also used to see things in my guest room
I’m the opposite. I feel the need to abuse the space and kill whoever else that challenges the space overtime. Which is why my parents always have kids in my room and everywhere and often take me out. What kind of disease/thing is that called again?
It's the feeling of being trapped for me I think, I feel I can handle being alone in a room as creepy as these ones if there was a definite chance that I can find my way out and not be alone anymore, but if I can't see any escape route then it's panic attack time
I actually feel like these are places that would be in a dream. Not vivid enough for me to remember, but seeing them is triggering something and I don’t know what it is.
@Antonio Chavez here's a different one ( *you go into what seems to be a hospital when you enter you see patients of all ages young and old in different conditions some seem to be gravely injured while some of them seem to be fine* ) edit: you ask why are they waiting *they all seem to respond at the same time ( "we have to wait until the doctor is ready"* ) you ask when the doctor will be ready ( *some of them shift uncomfortable some of them were about to speak but decided not to say anything* ) decided to not pry any longer your choices are to (explore hospital) (Leave hospital)
Honestly, the more bright, peaceful looking ones wouldn't be too bad without the music, throw in some gentle, atmospheric vaporwave and it'd be a nice visit :)
Yeah, no offense to the person that made the video but most of these images aren’t scary. They are only scary because of the music and because viewers are primed to be in the mindset of being afraid.
@@mirsolis4992 Jesus I never really thought about that. Looking at the coffin image by itself while scrolling down on UA-cam With a different title wouldn’t give me the creeps at all. Knowing it’s going to be a creepy video with the title and music puts you into the spooked setting
That one actually scares me alot, it reminds me of many old memories where i went to different places but for some reason feels twisted and unnerving EDIT: The one afterwards for some reason calms me alot, I don't know why, it just reminds me of getting home after a long day.
I think this is because you have a sign of life-grasses and bushes. This could also be because it’s a wide open space so you have a much higher chance to escape danger
1:42 I actually like this picture, it’s very comforting and nostalgic. For some reason I always felt comfortable and incredibly nostalgic only specifically for flat open green grasslands with blue skies like this. My guess is because of the Windows XP background. Edit: I have come to the conclusion of another reason why this comforts me. I live in Texas, it is a very grassy and flat state so I probably have a lot of nostalgia because I was born there.
Being alone is also scary. Being alone with no sign of life, no animals, no humans, no demons, nothing. You're now forced to be there and interact with the places. It's a never ending loop. You'll be there forever. Forever. Forever. Forever. Forever. *F O R E V E R.*
You eventually find her, she hugs you really tight and explains how you have been gone for 7 years. She is visibly upset at the fact that you’re still exactly the same as when she lost you. You’re clothes are clean, your age has not advanced. She looks slightly older, some grey hairs. As you walk out of the building, holding her hand you notice that the farther you walk the more deteriorated the inside of the building gets. Once you finally get to the exit you look at the building from the outside. It’s nearly completely rotten barley standing. Although you are young you understand something is wrong. It’s only been 15 minutes to you but nearly a decade in reality. You get in the car with your mom but, this is not the car you came in. She explains that within the 7 years you were gone she has bought a new car, you’ve moved houses, your father has passed in service and your sister has gone missing. This is a lot to take in, you cry for a while but eventually you’re able to take a nap in the back seat of the car due to your lack of understanding of death. Your mom explained that your new house is about an hour a half away so you can sleep for a pretty good amount of time. Right before you drift off you notice you’re driving past lots of empty fields at dusk. You think nothing of it and go to sleep. As you wake up you’re still driving through similar looking fields. You ask your mom why, she gives no response. You think this is strange but compared to the things you have seen today you brush it off. You sit quietly for about ten minutes before eventually seeing a pile of rubble on the left side of the road. It seems to have a concrete base still standing so you assume it was a building. About a mile down the road you see a similar one but partially less destroyed. This continues 3 or 4 times with the building being erected more and more each time. You drive around once more and the building has been put together enough for you to read a barely legible sign “Party venue, Not vacant.” You start to break a cold sweat and feel light headed. These buildings are now occurring much more frequently, eventually until they are side by side in a uniform line. You’ve driven past hundreds maybe even thousands and you still haven’t heard a single noise from your mother. You’re absolutely terrified in the fetal position bawling in the floor of the car. But they stop, there are no more buildings. You drive two or three miles past empty fields again. Eventually you see a glow in the sky signaling a nearby city. You drive into the city and see all sorts of buildings, stores, gas stations a church and a bank. There is still not another car to be seen but the city is alive. Lights are on and machines are running but not a person anywhere. You eventually hear the turn signal and you look to your left. “Party venue, not vacant” the building is in pristine condition. there are cars lined up filling the parking lot. Your mom looks back at you and this startled you because you have become accustomed to her quietness. She sees that you’re upset but ignores it. She leans in and says “have fun at the party, I’ll be back to get you after I have dinner with your father and sister. Should be around 7:30 but you know how they are about their personal time, they don’t get much with your dad being a general and with your sister doing... well whatever she does in the woods” and speeds off before you can get a word out. You turn to the building with tear filled eyes and dreadfully walk to it while noticing the shine of the city fading away along with the sound of your mothers car
1:37 is incredibly pleasant & feels particularly dreamy, probably due to the bright colours and wide area as well as the weather. The Earthbound music is especially fitting here too.
It was ruined for me when I read a comment that said "Imagine being here with this music and seeing something bolting towards you". There was this mental image that came up; something stabbing me to death in the middle of the field. I am now extremely uncomfortable.
@@dr.avalanche4994 lol this actually made me feel a lot better without thinking of that other guys comment saying something is bolting towards you, this one Is a lot more calmer now since you brought up adult swim bumpers. Thanks i guess lol
And the thing that makes that even more unsettling is the fact that there is a good chance that you're not completely alone. Like what are the chances of you being complete alone in like an airport or a mall?
1:08 This one just makes me sad... For some reason it reminds me of something I had been waiting for, for an incredible long time... And when it happened, it was nothing but negativity...
Idk it reminded me of hotel hallways and running around them as a kid, most of these images didn't make me uncomfortable so much as long for true freedom to do things without social pressures. The windmill one made me think of driving around in my car, windows down, music on. The one with the chairs and mirrors just made me want to sit and lay across the chairs and the carpet and run up and down the hallway
Normally these are entertaining to watch and may trigger just a little bit of nostalgia or are just a tad uncomfortable... but that particular picture and music did hit me real hard emotionally and i can't explain why.
Look, I'm introverted and all. But knowing I have no one to run to, no one to find comfort in, it scares me. These images did the perfect job in triggering the thought.
I feel the exact same way, it’s kind of annoying how everyone is talking about ‘Not knowing if you’re truly alone’ or ‘feeling like you’re being watched’ I think overall, that feeling of unease/dread one feels just goes to show that we aren’t meant to be alone despite what some may say. I mean, sometimes when people are annoying the hell out of me I say things like “I wish I was the only person on the planet” But if it actually happened, I think I’d be completely terrified. The anxiety, the heart pain. I think I’d go crazy honestly lol. This video just made me super uncomfortable for some reason lol
How to make a autophobia image: Find a place that would normally have alot people go in after closing hours when its empty take a photo and compress it Works like a charm
The places that give me this feeling are church bathrooms, old "abandoned" bathrooms in older-ish schools and looking out my back door to my deck at night.
Former catholic schools student. Whenever we went to church and had to use the bathroom we would go down to the weird church basement and everything echoed and had that weird floor with mostly white with red brown and yellow tiles in it. The bathroom lights always flickered and it had those little tiny like 1 1/2 inch tiles that were all uneven. God it scared me. Thank god they sent someone with you down there whenever you had to go.
I used to go to my small churches single stall bathroom because the cupboard under the sink was lined with black carpet with roses, which looked and smelled like my grandparent's house
I went to a church at night with one of my cousins to give food to the homeless and legit the bathroom had a hole in the ceiling like a big noticeable hole adding that it was dark
1:37 This is beautiful tho. I think what makes liminal spaces eerie are the fact that they are wide spaces which were supposed to have the presence of people in it, landscapes like 1:37 doesn't work because it's too wide that it feels like it's just natural to not have visible people in such landscapes
When I was a kid I was always afraid of being alone. I guess it’s just that kind of child-like fear. The kind that makes you stick close to your parents, that feeling your heart is being squished and your stomach churning. I’m nineteen now, and looking at these pictures I get that sense of loneliness and fear. I’m not sure how to explain it- like when you were a kid and your mum suddenly let go of your hand and you couldn’t find her in the mall. Or the fear of the store closing while you’re still in it. Or driving down a road in the middle of the night, lost. And the road doesn’t end, no matter how long you drive. Edit: I hope all the people who find these images comforting know they’re completely valid!! I was just listing the things I feel when seeing them. I’ve just got a bad case of abandonment issues and being left alone is downright triggering.
Holy fucking shit this is it. It's straight up the feeling of being alone. And thinking of being alone forever even tho these buildings and stuff are definitely created by humans. It could be like ur the last creature in the whole planet feeling. That's what these images make me feel like.
0:42 if there were no people in the world and i get in a place like that there is 2 options for me: 1- i would control my anxiety and get out of there with max fear 2- i would scream desperately and close my eyes from anxiety
at first its alright for me then i imagine if that is my own casket and im as a spirit just sitting there staring at it while all the visitors have gone home, then it became so goddamn unnerving..
"I think it's a Liminal Space, Pat! Our ancestors couldn't stop talking about them and never managed to travel there, but I think we just found 'em!" 3:28 "Ooh, Pat! Wanna go in the tube maze?"
@First LAst They're both as Scary. If we are alone... Are we the first? Are we the last? If we arent alone... What Will they do to us? What if they exterminate us?
I love this video- I feel like the pictures were so carefully selected because they all successfully cause a feeling of nostalgia or of eeriness- many of these images use smart methods to make you feel alone such as 3:06 Chairs facing away from you 0:43 dim lighting + exit sign 1:43 the yellow black object in the peripheral vision of the viewer 2:43 familiar branding 3:43 exposed vast ceilings Yeah I just loved the selection, really great job!
I’m more scared of spaces where there’s no corner to back into. You don’t have a safe space, not knowing who could be behind you, running endlessly, searching for signs of life, but the eerie feeling you get, you start to think there is in fact something lurking behind you
If you're not careful and you noclip out of reality in the wrong areas, you'll end up in the Backrooms, where it's nothing but the stink of old moist carpet, the madness of mono-yellow, the endless background noise of fluorescent lights at maximum hum-buzz, and approximately six hundred million square miles of randomly segmented empty rooms to be trapped in God save you if you hear something wandering around nearby, because it sure as hell has heard you
1:09, 1:37, 3:28, 3:57, 5:48 are actually really relaxing in a strange way. i don't have autophobia, in fact i find comfort in the idea of spending time just observing things in an empty space
Whenever I'm in empty places, I always feels like there's someone watching, following, stalking me all the time. This why I hate being alone in a wide open empty places. (That abandoned town in Wet Dry World did this to me first.)
Why can I see a "life" there? Someone walking by those images, not in fear, in fact, I see them emotionless. But somehow they are travelling through those images, and I can almost see that they are actually living their life.
I think these images convey the natural feeling of being in a place of which you can you easily be ambushed in, in a lot of these photos there are blind spots Corners pillars and even doors of which are open of which somebody could be behind those places waiting to Ambush you, and the whole fact that most of these places are designed by people also conveys the sense.
A lot of the comments are like "I'm not scared of being alone there I'm scared of being there with something" which is true but I feel like in some of these places I wouldn't stay in even if god told me I was completely alone.
Like, the overall idea of being the only person in a city or on a planet in general is just horrifying. It feels uneasy. I think it just goes show that as much as people say otherwise, we aren’t meant to be alone.
Where would I find food and H2O… What if I trip and twist my ankle… Would I freeze to death here??? How would I know when to sleep if time can’t be told in this dimension??? What if I get stuck wandering this place forever and get bored… listless to keep on going…
When I was sixteen I used to work as a night janitor at a really dead mall. A lot of these photos really frazzled me because I used to get a lot of panic attacks from when I worked there because I thought I wasn’t alone
5:32 lol scariest part of this pic is the fact someone put a stairway in the bathroom. And cut it off with the toilet. But for real like, what if you slip on the stairs because everything is wet from the shower lol, trash design m8
That picture scares me cuz it makes me feel like theres a dark secret hidden in that place that i dont wanna know about. But I'm so close to finding out about it of i just go up the stairs.
Maybe in a future we will just create a dyson sphere to power a powerful computer which will let us live in a simulation while drones start to expand our influence in the universe. If the simulation has a failure we would probably get stuck in places like the backrooms or other places projected in this video
Am I the only one who thinks this 1:38 is actually pretty nice? I can imagine lying down on the grass just chilling and enjoying some Tuna and Sweetcorn sandwiches. Edit: This comment has been up for years and I only just noticed today in 2024 that I spelled sandwiches wrong lol. Edited to fix.

for some people these images might be triggering and eerie, but for me they're so comforting. i just feel, like I really want to walk in these places where no one will bother me. in my opinion, with less unsettling music at some moments, this video would be very calming.
I have agoraphobia and autophobia. That means the fear is amplified to the roof. I know im alone but i also have a fear of something bad might happen even tho there is not. Yeah im fucked
Some people are unsettled by these images because they're afraid of being completely alone. But some people are unsettled by these images because they're afraid that someone (or something) might be hiding there.
It feels like all life was taken, there is no life anymore.. no purpose.. a never ending trail.. no meaning for living anymore. It's making you go insane the longer you drive, the loneliness. Your heart beating fast, searching for any sign of life. This is edgy, I'll stop-
After observing many of these images, I’ve concluded there are three aspects to them that work hand in hand to produce the weird mix of feelings that we receive from them. Confusion: there is rarely ever a focal point, or point of the image that stands out among the entire picture. An example of this is when you look at a piece of artwork, your mind will land on the area that is most presentable. In these pictures, no part them present themselves as being more unique than the rest of the picture. Nostalgia: The nostalgia these images reflect on the viewer differs depending on that viewers past. We can associate things from our past (especially our childhood memories) with things in these images. A lot of these images contain nostalgic objects or atmospheres that we cannot fully compare with our childhood (since a lot of our childhood memories are very distant and blurred) but we can still associate them with small portions of those distant childhood memories. Fear: fear or uneasiness is a very note-able feeling that these images induce. This is probably because the absence of people/life in these images creates a sense of loneliness and insecurity. Combine that with how we associate many of these pictures with ourselves through our nostalgia, it’s almost as if these images can relate to us in a creepy way.
I get a weird feeling that these images are important, but weren’t meant to be observed yet. Almost like showing off an incomplete puzzle or trying to drive over an unfinished road.
Some of them, just some of them, makes me feel nostalgia. 1:45 is an example of that, and I guess this is one of those few that aren't scary. Crazy thing about having a nostalgia feeling from that particular image is that, I never really got to see those things, neither that background, but in some way, I can actually see myself in that. Rest of them, are just straight up scary. Either the music or the image in itself, the sense of confusion really matches up the fear, because we can't have a specific location in our head. When that happens, I tend to not think of an exit, safe wall or even windows to jump out if I need to escape in a Fight-or-Flight situation.
Some shit happened in my childhood, I don't trust anyone, not even my family. These spaces seem comforting to me... and the more I read these comments the more I realize I'm alone in that aspect as well...
I noticed a lot of people saying the creepy part is not knowing if you’re the only one there, but for me, being alone is much scarier. The thought of no one being around to help you, or to comfort you, or at not even knowing if other people exist, is much scarier. The thought of never seeing another person, and wandering forever in a lonely world is much worse to me
@@poodles9031 I'm scared of being NOT alone where I should be alone, this terrain looks familiar to mine around home (but with hills) So this is relaxing for me
I once went to my school alone at night, there's nobody there including the security guard. I went inside the dark school, turning on all the lights at the hallway and the stairway myself, the higher the school floor level I go, the darker the hallway and the stairway are. I felt like somebody's watching me even the plants are watching me. When I was heading to the class, I saw a wind opened the dark dancing room's door, I then opened the door of the dancing room and I saw myself in the mirror of darkness. Because of the scary atmosphere, I decided to left that place immediately. After I entered my dark classroom and placed my bag there, I heard something shaking inside of a pot tree, I use my ruler and my water bottle as weapons, and then I opened the twigs that blocked my sight, and then something creepy jumped from the inside of the tree and scared me, do you want to know what that creepy thing is? It just a little mouse, but because of the eerie and the scary atmosphere of the school at night, I was scared half to death
You just unlocked a childhood memory from my brain. My sister used to have her Girl Scout meetings at the elementary school we went to, and my mom was one of the den mothers, so I'd have to tag along at these meetings and I would just wander through the school for an hour, usually going into the library and reading until it was time to leave. So it's like 6 or 7 at night, there's no one there, and I'm just chilling between the shelves in total silence except for the hum of the halogen lights, poring through the school's decades-old canvas-bound collections of Peanuts comics. It was great, because once a week, I had all the books I wanted all to myself. It was one of my first experiences with a liminal space, and one of the most relaxing 🙂

2:36 it’s 2011 and you’re friend’s birthday party is over and you can’t find Mom after everyone has left
give me chills

The places that give me this feeling are church bathrooms, old "abandoned" bathrooms in older-ish schools and looking out my back door to my deck at night.
I often used to dream about abandoned old bathrooms and schools, horrifying. Only me and the feeling that something is near but never can see it.
oh my god. Church Bathrooms SUCK! Like, I hate how ominous and dim they are, while they have like the most innocent art along the trim!

I went to a church at night with one of my cousins to give food to the homeless and legit the bathroom had a hole in the ceiling like a big noticeable hole adding that it was dark

for some people these images might be triggering and eerie, but for me they're so comforting. i just feel, like I really want to walk in these places where no one will bother me. in my opinion, with less unsettling music at some moments, this video would be very calming.
Yeah agreed. These images give me a profound sense of peace and nostalgia, I wish I could wander these spaces alone forever.
Imagine being the person taking these pictures 💀
oh fuck🙁

The camera man is surely a superior creature.
The cameraman never dies
I would probably be with my back against a wall, preferably a door, so I can open it and walk away.
I don’t think that being alone is the scariest part, it’s the feeling that you aren’t alone
yes is that
Yep, I have scopophobia, so these images scared me too.

Some people are unsettled by these images because they're afraid of being completely alone.
But some people are unsettled by these images because they're afraid that someone (or something) might be hiding there.
The images at 2:07 and 5:53 make me feel like no matter how long you drive you won't get off those roads.
I feel no nostalgia just fear

Damn

ya with everything so dark and being all alone it triggers ur fear of the unknown
