    Excellent video Tom, thank you for taking the time to review these systems.
    Indeed, both are overestimated. For professional use, I see a much greater sense of buying a good universal machine, for example, the Hammer C3 41 performs, of course maybe something best, the initial investment is high, but when you count all the costs for various accessories ... you will find that buying and using such a machine is no longer as high as a multitude of different accessories that are questionably compatible, not to speak about the necessary space for storing all of this.

    When I decided to get a REAL router table, I also looked at both of these and some others as well. What I discovered was they were all trying to compare themselves to the Incra. So it made sense to me to just buy the Incra. That was 14 years ago and the best decision I ever made. The Incra made me a pro overnight. I am able to do things far beyond my skill level. I never get tired of playing with it. It is the flag ship of my shop. I stuck a Porter-Cable 7518 router motor in it right off the bat. Another great decision I made. No other router table system even comes close to what I have. And it is the ONLY system I recommend.

    I have the exact same system on my router table. It replaced a Jessem fence that sat on top of the Jessem table top. I liked it so well I replace the fence on my PM 66 with an Incra fence also. Can't say enough about how well I like both of them. Yes they are pricey but, like all of my Festool stuff(flame away), I think it it worth the price.
    Another big plus I found with Incra is the customer service. It is top notch.

    Push the kreg fence back past the 5 1/2" inches mentioned and you will lose one of the 4 white nylon sliders. Took me hours to find the bugger in the saw dust.
    Fence sliders nèed a dust out after an hours use. Yes I am using a dust extractor but I like to be able to get the job over and done with in one hit.

    Thanks for this. I'm now in the middle of this debate. One update is that Kreg has its own lift that you can add, so you could add that to the price comparison. I think that makes the cost difference a little closer.

    • @thomrider
      @thomrider  3 роки тому

      I would take the Incra lift over the kreg. The insert system on the Incra is metal and doesn’t require a tool to change them. I have the Jessem which is the same except for they use the plastic inserts. I always need to use a tool to change inserts. The kreg lift is a Jessem copy as well. I would definitely get a router lift no matter which brand you choose.

    One major consideration for me and space is the cabinet orientation. Incra must be left to right for rectangular cabinet to be able to support that beam. I just built a rectangular router cabinet so that maybe a deterrent away from incra. Thx for the video.

  • @RonKillian
    @RonKillian Рік тому

    Good detailed comparison. But it's not a apples to apples thing. While they both perform a similar function, router table, the Incra is a very different and much better system. The kreg is like just about every router table system out there, nothing really unique or special about it. Where the incra has so many better features, can do so much more and more accurate. Plus when you add a good lift to the kreg, the price inches closer to the Incra. Even still, the Incra system has so much more. One thing I did not see mentioned, the incra fences can be offset. Maybe the kreg can as well. More importantly, the Incra can also be used as a table saw fence with just the addition of mounting rails. Incra has a complete set up. But this makes for one of the best table saw fences you can get. I have the incra on my table saw with a router table on each side. Incredible system. Both systems are so different. Here is another thing, the Incra has several scale spots, like 4? I recently added a Metric scale, so I can work in both imperial and metric. Also, Incra has slotted insert rings, to aid in dust collection, makes a difference. So versatile.

    • @thomrider
      @thomrider  5 років тому

      It might be depends, if you can make a modification out of wood or metal on the back to mount the incra fence. The new only down side to the incra is the space you need for the back of the fence to move. Good luck. I’m sure you can figure it out. One thing I noticed you missed on Kreig and initially I did to... there is 2 rods about 1/8" diameter in one of the grooves in the dust outlet side, you slide it out and you put it between AL fence in the groove and sacrificial piece on the outlet side" after the cutter that will help you cutting depth in accurate way. About to purchase the full Kreg system w/accessories. But it appears it would be more beneficial long term buying the lower end Incra package with the Wonder fence instead ($700ish). For a beginner who wants to make cabinets for his house, I'm thinking it would make sense to first buy the table/fence then all the advanced accessories (e.g. dovetail), lift later. Thoughts?
    PS: As a former machinist this 0.005 Incra accuracy shown is unbelievable for wood!

    • @thomrider
      @thomrider  5 років тому +3

      I would definitely recommend the Incra system over the Kreg just for the repeatable accuracy alone. Plus the micro adjust is so amazing. Then you have all the joinery. I like when I’m making dovetail or box joint drawers I can load like 6 to 8 parts in at once which really speeds up production. Plus Incra has everything all figured out with 48 different templates that come with the LS positioned.
      The router lift I would recommend is the Incra version of the Jessem lift because of the quick change rings being metal. I have the Jessem router lift 2 it has plastic rings which work fine just they are plastic and I need a tool to change them plus a couple of them are a little melted from long production runs where heat from the bit and wood melted tracks in the rings.
      Either choice is a good table just Incra offers more for the money.

    • @takeniteasyfriend
      @takeniteasyfriend 5 років тому

      BACKYARD WOODSHOP thanks. Incredibly helpful. As a homeowner hobbyist about to make the purchase, would you consider Incra’s TS-LS Combo (with router joinery System) an equivalent performer to just the Incra router table “the works” joinery combo? (Assuming I purchase the lift you noted extra). I want to save space, but not compromise routing for an all-in-one system. In particular, I heard that side tables to a saw table cause more vibration. But maybe Incra is different? Thoughts?

    • @thomrider
      @thomrider  5 років тому +1

      I have not heard of table side tables having a lot of vibration. The TS-LS system is a great addition by giving your table saw that Incra accuracy and also router capability. You can actually have two router setups one in each wing. The best is the space savings. The only negative to the Incra system is the need for space so the positioner can move back past the table. That is why the tables are oriented side ways. If space and value are a real concern I would go with the TS-LS Option.

    Thanks for the video. I have to say, it appears that you have not used the kreg system extensively. If you had, you would of discovered that the fence on the Kreg is really horrible. I’m speaking from experience, as I have one. It not only is poorly designed but it doesn’t work as advertised. Locking down the fence is a three step process, and those steps basically involve checking to make sure it didn’t move in the process, which it always does. They used 4 harden iron bolts to go into thin aluminum to hold down the fence square and if you look at it wrong they will strip. That’s coming from someone with 35 years of working with aluminum. I have both the Kreg table and lift and the lift is precision engineering, with quality bolts machined into precision cut and length holes. I’m a fan of Kreg but the way they made this table fence is one of the biggest let downs I have experienced in my tool buying career.

    I'm an Incra guy...it's just so easy to get spoiled. I have two fences, 3 miters, the cross cut sled 5000, and a few other jibs. I picked up an old Ultra Jig I found at an estate sale a few years ago. I also found a new TS-LS 17" system. I'm glad I found those cheap, because I likely wouldn't have spent the money. But I quickly realized that while their stuff is expensive, it's exceptionally well engineered and built. There's no question it's worth the money. I'm finally getting around to upgrading my table saw to a full cabinet (SS 3hp PCS), and I didn't hesitated to buy a new Incra fence for it.

    Today they don't give the Incra mast-r-lift 2 with the table, that cost 420.00 more

    You are comparing a fence/joinery system to a router table (with legs) and a fence. Apples to oranges.

    • @thomrider
      @thomrider  3 роки тому

      But the Incra is a router table with extra benefits of joinery. Kreg does a great job as well but the joinery helps it win out. My opinion.

    If the Incra is double the price of the Kreg, then what’s really the point of a head to head comparison? If I’m looking in the price range of one, by definition I’m likely not interested in the other.

    • @thomrider
      @thomrider  4 роки тому

      Well you would invest more over time to get the kreg system to do most of what the Incra system can do. I only bought the fence system and built the rest which does save a lot of money.

    Good comparison video...but you're killing me every time you say "unloosen"!! You do realize if you unloosen something...it means you're tightening it?!?! So why not just say "tighten"!?
    I bet you say "unthaw" when defrosting something frozen too...don't you?!? LOL

      I don’t see where in the video you are mentioning. If it’s when I’m using the micro adjusters I am talking about making the sliding dovetails fit loose enough so they slide easily.

      I am not here to beat up on you, but I caught that statement too. When you were speaking about the 6 inch rule in the Kreg system you spoke of the bolt that locks the position of the rule and it was only 5.5 inches of usable measurement. At the end of the day we all know what you meant. It is tough to make a video and say everything you want to coney unless you are reading from a script or or yo do a lot of editing.
      I think you did a great job on pointing out the advantages and differences between the two systems.
