This was on the last album she was on. She died in 1970 and this was released in 1971. She was here and then gone just like Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison. Great job, Mo!

One of my all-time favorite lyrics: "Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose" There was a performance in tribute to her at the Grammy's years ago, Joss Stone and Melissa Etheridge that is one of my all-time favorite performances. Would highly recommend that you check it out - even though it's not Janis, it really hits at the heart of her songs. If you are interested, a little more about that performance with Joss Stone and Melissa Etheridge and what it meant to me. Melissa was recovering from cancer and this was her first performance after finishing her treatment. Well, my mother's name was Janice (spelled differently) and grew up as a huge Janis Joplin fan. A few years before this specific performance, my mother passed away from cancer. So anytime I see that performance, and really, anytime I hear Janis Joplin, I get a little emotional. Glad you enjoyed it, and have a great day.
Janis rocks! "Me and Bobby McGee" was a number one hit in the U.S. for Janis Joplin in 1971 but she died before it was released so she didn't get to enjoy its success. For that it pairs well with "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding from 1967, the first ever posthumous single to top the charts in the U.S. Macabre references aside, but they both tore it up at the legendary Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, along with Jimi Hendrix and The Who. When you're ready for more from Janis Joplin, check out her performance of "Ball and Chain" and "Down On Me" at Monterey Pop, "Summertime" at Frankfurt, and "Cry Baby" in Toronto 1970. Also check out Otis Redding's set at Monterey Pop, where he performed "Shake", "Respect", "I've Been Loving You Too Long", "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", and "Try a Little Tenderness".
Another brilliant reaction - thank you! So - now please go and look for "Janis Joplin - Ball & Chain - Monterey Pop" - and just watch somethng special..... something beyond words....
"Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose" I remember the first time I heard those words back in the early 80s and they have stuck with me every day since. Great reaction and you can't go wrong with anything by Ms. Joplin
This song was written by Kris Kristofferson and originally recorded by Roger Miller. Kristofferson had his own version of it, as did Gordon Lightfoot, but Janis' cover was the best.
Janis was a power house. Her Ball and Chain is another one to witness. I also think some Little Richard and maybe some Chuck Berry might entertain you. Peace/JT
Janice's "Ball and Chain" sung at the Monterey Music Festival is another great performance. She really leaves it all out there. Loved this song choice! Thanks for continuing to entertain.
Hi BBGrl! This is my favorite Janis Joplin song. That girl had rhythm and could sing. And the lyric “I’d trade all of my tomorrow’s for one single yesterday” hits hard. Such a good song

I could see you doing that and belting out a song to heaven. (singing loud) lol. Your friend, Thomas
