That was pretty much her coming out to the world performance. She was well known in Southeast Texas, play a lot of the small clubs in Beaumont and Houston.
the BEST of her is 1967 monteray pop festival and she sings BALL AND CHAIN this performance is FAMOUS LEGENDARY AND IT MADE HER A STAR !!!!!! it is what started her
It is what got her world attention, but we knew about her Southeast Texas long before that, she played the clubs in Beaumont and Houston years before that.
Appreciate your appreciation. ❤ “Try” is one of my faves. And, as everyone has said, Ball and Chain at Monterey. You’ll see her explode with the soul her body just can’t contain.
Janis's best tracks would include "Get It While You Can", "Cry Baby", "Maybe", "Codine", "Try", "Little Girl Blue", "Move Over", ""Kozmic Blues", Piece of My Heart", "Down on Me". Because she had such a short life, the rights owners have put out just about every shred of her filmed live performances, many of which are at concerts where her voice isn't the best (strained after too many shows, bad audio, etc.). This one was fairly decent. Her studio work is impeccable (and not altered as is the case today - they just repeated it until she got it how she wanted it), as are her performances on bigger tv venues such as The Dick Cavett Show, and The Ed Sullivan Show.
Most singers sing from their diaphragms. Janis brings it from deeper. She sings from her toes. Her most iconic songs are "Piece of My Heart" and "Me and Bobby McGee." But she puts everything she's got into every song.
I love Janis, and I've been listening to this since it first came out. And that's a long time. It has always entranced me because she sings Blues like no other and this song shows off her unique voice. Her vocal control was spot on even with every scream. Her voice is so soul-stirring, but the best part is that she harmonizes with the best...herself. Check out "Work me Lord", "Piece of my Heart", "Little Girl Blue", "Maybe". RIP, dear Janis 💙❤️. ☮️to all.
A member of the 27 club. RIP. All of her songs were great. Ball and Chain at the Monterey Pop Festival was the world'sintroduction to Janis. Cass Elliot is in awe of her performance. Cass Elliott was with the Mama's and the Papa's. A great group.
Imagine growing up with Janis and Joni Mitchell because your mom has the best musical taste! The studio version of Summertime is my example of SUBLIME #JoniMitchell #California #Woodstock
She was an amazing artist tragically died from a heroin overdose at 27 years old. Jimi Hendrix also died that same year, and Jim Morrison was soon to follow.
Janis was amazing and heartbreaking - died way too young, like Jimi Hendrix and others. You feel her pain. Cry Baby, Piece of My Heart, Me and Bobby Magee are some more of her best songs. Folk singer Joan Baez sang a beautiful tribute to Janis - In the Quiet Morning.
Another Blue Eyed Soul singer with no boundaries and we loved her for it. She has so many jaw dropping performances that she crammed into such a short time. I miss her. Thank you for reacting to any of her music. Play it and I'll be here.
Janis lived her life never realizing how loved she really was. Thats her real tragedy. Bullying someone takes it toll on a person. Everyone created has a purpose to fulfill. She did. Have you done, " crybaby" studio version?
@@tonilharmon European tour was in the '69. Janis sangs Cry baby in the summer '70. I've seen many youtube european concerts: the set list is the same and Cry baby there's not.
Janis was fire 🔥 Janis is/was/always will be the truth. Same concert, 1969, live Stockholm, Work Me Lord is an incredible listen. Also, Janis lived in 1969 on the Tom Jones TV Show, Little Girl Blue, shows her more quiet side, absolutely beautiful.
I was 13 when she died so I wasn't into her music back then. Boy did I learn to appreciate as I got older. Love her raw and raspy voice. She is another member of the 27 club. We lost alot of artist back then.
Welcome to Janis Joplin, a girl from Port Arthur, Texas. Her name is pronounced just as it is spelled -- and she was as Texan as you can get. Her talent was truly immense, seen maybe only once in a generation, but she also worked at it very hard. And once you bite, you are the fish that has swallowed the hook -- her singing tears your guts out if you try to get away. But she tears them out regardless, no matter what you do.
Before my time, but can you imagine hearing her live???..it is Janis...😊..watch movie "the rose" with better milder...said to be based on Janis Joplin...great movie!!!!
Summertime is the great aria from the most famous American opera, Porgy and Bess. It is a classic covered by almost every great female jazz or blues vocalist. Janis’ cover of this fantastic song is a tour de force made all her own. She took the aria written by Aaron Copeland and turned it into a gritty love song in the modern vernacular. Simply startling.
RIP Janis . Taken down by a batch of extra strong heroin at 27 . Me and Bobby McGee , A woman left lonely , Maybe ( the live version from the Ed Sullivan show ) As good as you've been to this world ( studio version ) and Call on me ( live at the Carousel ballroom 1968 ) How's that for a list ?
Check out Janis Joplin's "Ball and Chain live at Monterey Pop ". It will knock your socks off. GUARANTEED. I think i requested this one from you once or twice before.
You played Sax and you don't know that's a soprano Saxophone ? If it was an oboe or a clarinet then the body would be made of wood and be a woodwind instrument, but that's all brass.
Ball And Chain live at Monterey Pop Festival is one of her most famous live performances

- Definitely a MUST-SEE! :)

Janis is the goat. "Cry baby", "Work me lord" next.
Legendary lady ... Rest in Peace, Janis. ✌💙✌

Mercedes Benz as well as Piece of My Heart by Janis Joplin are brilliant.

I spun "Me and Bobby McGee" more than and other 45 growing up, 2nd only to Neil Diamond's Holly Holy. The 60's and 70's had legends.
Janis is your favourite aunt at all the bbq’s ❤
How did you know? 😉 Wish she was my aunt. ❤️🔥
"Piece of my Heart' by Janis Joplin is phenomenal, you'd love it!!! Really hard hitting.

Thank you. There is nobody like Janis!
I had the privilege of seeing Janis perform (Toronto 1970) about 4 months before she died. She blew us all away!
She was an amazing artist tragically died from a heroin overdose at 27 years old. Jimi Hendrix also died that same year, and Jim Morrison was soon to follow.

Monterey Pop Festival Ball and Chain🔥
Mover Over is one of my faves. Underrated IMO.

Aw that’s terrible. And nope i haven’t! But i see it’s very requested!
Cry baby live is from Toronto

You might want to listen to her in "Cry baby" live in Toronto, "Raise your hand" and "Little girl blue" live in the Tom Jones show... Girl's a Legend.
Mercedes Benz. A once ever a capella with a great sense of humor. Love that song from her.

Her biggest songs are Me and Bobbie McGee and another piece of my heart
Extreme head voice
She's a Texas native so you said it correctly
Port Arthur TX, she was well known before she ever broke, she played a lot of the clubs from lake Charles Louisiana to Beaumont to Houston.
Janet has passion

Cry Baby but you have to do the live version. It's mind blowing!
Check out Janis Joplin's "Ball and Chain live at Monterey Pop ". It will knock your socks off. GUARANTEED. I think i requested this one from you once or twice before.
So cute
"Piece of My Heart", "Cry Baby"... "Kozmic Blues"...
Died at 27 of alcohol disease. She was an old soul with a bluesy raspy voice that is like no other.
She died of a heroin overdose. In a hotel in Hollywood California.
She didn't pass from alcohol disease, she overdosed on heroin.
A heroin overdose not alcohol. Do some research .
She died of a heroin overdose
"Bobby McGhee" "Cry Baby" as well as the others mentioned.
Cry Baby and Me and Bobby Magee are must listens. Peace out ✌️ ☮️
Cry Baby, the live version, is the best!
You played Sax and you don't know that's a soprano Saxophone ? If it was an oboe or a clarinet then the body would be made of wood and be a woodwind instrument, but that's all brass.
But if I'm not mistaken, even though it's made of brass, a saxophone is considered a woodwind because it's played with a reed at the mouthpiece.
@user-pf7jm9go6o yep, I was wrong I just looked it up
Obo
Cry baby❤
Me and Bobby Mcgee ❤
