i had a very old cabinet from my great grandmother with a lock like this and no one managed to open it. I first wanted to drill it open but on my search i stumbled over this video. It helped me open the lock without any damage. Thank you very much for your clear and well made video. My family is so happy to have the unharmed furniture of our ancestors in our home.

Did you have to totally remove* the lock from the cabinet prior to being able to move it around? Or how exactly did you execute it? I have this same problem right now.

@megamarn3902 Wow! What an incredible story! I'm so honored to have helped you with this!!
Thank you very much for letting me know about it, truly touching ❤️

@sunnyrock4404 These locks can typically be removed from the back by unscrewing 2 (or more) screws on the inside of the door/drawer. If the cabinet is locked, then the lock will have to be unlocked before you can move around or remove it. Hope that helps

Great video, thanks for posting !!!!
Can I inquire what brands and where you found your Vice and that Multi tool you were using with your left hand ?
Absolutely want to get both of those products and would appreciate any info you could provide.
      Thank You !

@@maddog0342vise is called Panavise, you can also get similar style one's for less through harbor freight website
The multi tool is the covert companion, but honestly, you would probably be better off making a better one out of music wire, or an old key imo.

I think I’m dealing with this situation but the lock is deep in the cabinet and I don’t have any of those tools, I’ve found where the bolt is and I have gotten it to like move slightly but I’m not sure how to do the rest 😭

Haha, sorry Lemon's wallet! I also want to get more into lever lock stuff, so this was a nice introductory lock to learn from for me.

@@IsaacHashman Yes! Finally! About 3 months later, I was polishing one of my Mom's smaller cabinets (antique) and I noticed it had a key sticking out of the cabinet drawer. I just had an idea it either belonged to the Other* door/hutch or it would fit... I inserted it, and Viola! It fit and it did the trick and works great! I think it got put on the other hutch by mistake in moving. Thank you for asking! x

but why do they come with a little window on one side is what i want to know about this style locks. most of the ones i have seen in that format have one on the inside

    • @IsaacHashman
      @IsaacHashman  3 роки тому

I don't know to be honest, but since they are mounted on the inside with the front face of the lock pressing against the door, the window shouldn't be visible. My guess is that it's for easier servicing, to spray lube, manipulate levers, to visual see more inside incase something is jammed, for hand filling a new key with more ease, ect.
Thanks for checking out my video buddy 😀 !

I think often, a window in a lock like this acts as a guide channel for the bolt, which has a protrusion on the side that extends into the slot.

Any update? Not all cabinet locks are the same, and it can be tricky to figure out how to tention/pick these locks sometimes especially with little experience with them...
That being said, it shouldn't be too difficult with the right equipment
