Well it was a two minute fifty six second advert so the real art is conning people into not knowing they are just watching an advert 😅 and he's good at that.😂
My takeaway is that to increase video run time bad lock companies should release locks during the sale season and include some feature for LPL to talk about.
I suppose that he actually tries to master opening those soviet locks from that previous video by carrot, and when he fully masters this art, he would release a video. He only learned about this style of attack recently, so he needs to practice it a bit to produce more clear video.
@methox85 a little bit ago, he picked a Soviet Era lock, and said it could probably be picked with a carrot. Ever since then, every comment section has been clamoring for the 'carrot pick'.
generally when guns are restricted from an area people do not bring them in, yes. especially if there is security in place to prevent that. but tell us more about how laws don't work. you want criminals to be able to bring guns anywhere and have no punishment?
Today's plot: Lock that looks good. He foreshadows that it's not that great. He shows us the thing that's interesting about this lock. Pulls out his tools. Defeats the lock. Insults the maker with a really clever burn. Oh wait, that's pretty much the usual plot...and I love it!
Security is LAYERS, LPL just explained that for locks! Now apply that to everything that you need to secure and you can be amaze how much a little change can cause the highest security bump.
thing is that a low security option like this is adequate for storage units on a site guarded by gates that require a code and that have security cameras. The lock on the unit is not the primary security option. What's galling is the advertising making false claims.
I came across a nearly identical lock that was branded "Defense²". It had a very hefty weight that made it feel like it was secure. But the core offered nothing in the way of security and fell just as quickly as this one did.
For the Holidays, LPL should come out with some toys for the kiddos...."Baby's first lock pick" featuring a real MasterLock (with a plastic wave rake) and of course, the much sought after picture book, "101 uses for a carrot" for the parents.
"For a small keyway like this, the short hook is almost certainly the way to go." I'd love to see a video on what tool to choose when; When should I use a quad rake or a quint rake? Short or medium hooks? Any of the funky profiles in the Reaper set? My friend got locked out, and I was struggling with his door with a short hook for a while. Switched to a medium hook just to try something different and it came open quickly.
I don't suppose that lock manufacturers have ever offered to pay you to help them design or improve their locks? They seem to believe that it is the promises on the packaging that sell their locks rather than the security they offer.
I remember that too. It was an Australian lock (special crafted/modified for competition). I remember LPL said he picked it open but not on camera. And when on camera, somehow he couldn't pick it.
The only way he would get caught picking locks that he shouldn't is when he can't resist the habit to identify with "This is the lock picking lawyer" at midnight in front of a home.
On those type of shutter see if u can find a pull tab from a soda can and press it tight to the lock body next to the shutter force the shutter over it and it will usually stay open
Just the fact that it needs to be single-pin picked instead of raking, bypassing, or giving it a sideways glance like a Master lock, puts it above 90% of other locks
If these pick guards become more common, one could cut some thing strips of tape and place them on the side of your CC, kind of like how campers and hikers will wrap their nalgene bottles with a few wraps of duct tape. Always have some.... doesnt take up much space......
Will you be doing a Best Of in different categories and an overall winner for the end of the year? I accept that there is no perfect lock but there may be locks that do well in some categories - it would be an opportunity for the channel to recognise manufacturers who are moving the industry forward, as well as pointing out the (many) areas that still need to be improved on.
Well that discus lock proved to be very disappointing, so much for pick resistance. Having said that most attacks will be brute force attacks and these locks do provide some resistance where that's concerned.
I would like to see LPL build a little set where he can put the lock on a door or latch and have to pick the lock in the position it would be in in real life use. Like, how fast could he pick if he couldn't just hold the lock upside down to tension the way he wants? Would be a good comparison of "optimal VS. realistic" pick times.
Maybe the shutter is linked to the core so that when it is open, it stops the core from turning and only the key can (somehow) unlock the shutter to turn the core. I might be overthinking it, I am aware of this.
Not to be picky(pun intended), but if you were simulating "real life situation" then you would not be able to turn the lock upside down to access the cylinder. You'd have to do it as if it were latched. You know, to make sure it is not a fluke. Love the vids LPL!
Dunno if shutter on this lock was intended to prevent picking, but at least it messes pretty good with LPL's camera (or sowtware) automatic sound volume adjustment.
So if there was a key with round middle part, this shutter had a small cut that would match round middle of key, but not allow head of key to pass, user would have to have key inside and shutter closed to open lock, that would provide quite a security in itself? Shutter when hitting middle of key would have it's pin align as well, so shutter would have to be in position of key, if it was full closed or open or broken off it would no longer allow to open lock.
The only question I have is how much time will it take to pick when the lock is located in a real world situation? I believe the large job site tool box will offer a better challenge for the LPL. Still enjoy the feedback the LPL shares to challenge the manufacturers to make a better product. Thanks for sharing.
I bought the Genesis with the training cylinder lock, the echelon set and arbitration set, i kinda like this small compact set. May get it. I had an idea for a set u can make, if u can MARK the lines on the picks so it lines up with the pins? I can prolly do it myself with a marker, but figured it'd help u guys out with a product idea. Sorta like the lishi lines things up? Was a thought. Many thanks i enjoy yalls stuff 🤘😎🔥

Dad always said that “ locks keep honest people honest.”
Lock picking and a lawyer 🤔 Yelp dad was right . LoL 😂
Happy Thanksgiving. 👍
Cool, except it's always sold out when I take a look at the website (98% of items is). Even now, less than an hour after posting this video.
Looks like you need the covert companion tape extension for locks like this😂
Are your tools made in the US?
The company will be like "It was for sure a fluke"
"A fluke is one of the most common fish in the sea. So if you go fishing for a fluke, chances are you just might catch one."
Nah they know what they are selling
@@absolutmauser Nah, must be a fluke, he couldn't do it twice.
The real art here is creating a three minute video around a 3 second attack.
I was hoping that there will be a 2. attack in the end by raking, but no.
Well it was a two minute fifty six second advert so the real art is conning people into not knowing they are just watching an advert 😅 and he's good at that.😂
He took more time to explain about the shutter than actually picking 'the high precision anti pick cylinder'
The LPL has such a calm and soothing narration as he deftly defeats lock technology.
Always happy to se a new video.
I know like a pilot😐
Ahh you might feel a little turbulence...
ahhh
😲😟😩😫✈🛩
That's why his April Fools videos are so hilarious. Ridiculous content delivered in a professional deadpan
I se what you did there.
"3 minutes, not that bad."
*Spends half the video hawking the Covert Companion*
The actual picking took about 10 seconds lmao
Half the time talking about the lock you mean.
Another third, explaining what tools to use, how and promoting said tool
So what? I already bought one. Muhahahaha
and the other half talking about the spring loaded shutter... lol.
I just timed it: start to finish, the actual picking took twenty seconds.
You can pick your friends and you can pick a lock but you can also pick your friends lock.
All I've ever picked is my nose.
@ me too! But you can’t pick your friends nose.
But only with permission
@@metalzonemt-2not yer friend's nose? 🫣
Wait... That's illegal 😮
At storage units, thieves just break the hinges on the doors.
“And all I have is my everyday carry covert companion.” … “And thousands of hours picking locks”
You might be able to wedge a carrot between the shutter and lock body to help keep it open🥕
Is there an upcoming tape dispenser expansion to the Covert Companion?
A well prepared picker could keep one or two small pieces of tape stuck to the sides of the Covert Companion.
That and an optional carrot function would be nice.
My takeaway is that to increase video run time bad lock companies should release locks during the sale season and include some feature for LPL to talk about.
"Usually I would try to rake something like this." That tells me all I need to know about this lock.
I too shall complain over the lack of carrots on this video 🥕🥕🥕
I suppose that he actually tries to master opening those soviet locks from that previous video by carrot, and when he fully masters this art, he would release a video. He only learned about this style of attack recently, so he needs to practice it a bit to produce more clear video.

At this point I don’t think we are going to get it ☹️
Maybe that's instructions telling you not to pick it. It's sort of like a "gun free zone" sign. obviously, everyone follows those rules.
Yeah just put a sign next to the lock saying no lock picking or lock tampering allowed. Everyone will stay away from your lock.
generally when guns are restricted from an area people do not bring them in, yes. especially if there is security in place to prevent that. but tell us more about how laws don't work. you want criminals to be able to bring guns anywhere and have no punishment?
@@kiloftd That is not what they are saying. They are COMPARING, not MOCKING, "No Weapon" signs.
I, while eating a carrot, am very disappointed that this video those not feature any carrots. :(
And "Covert Carrot" would be a great brand name LPL! Althought tbf, maybe the carrot was so covert that we didn't notice it.
LPL is all talk around carrots 🥕 and locks 🔒
Give us the carrot lockpick!! (maybe it doesnt actually work?)
@@exeggcutertimur6091I hope he's working on it.

Nice explanation. Missed the second ‘fluke’ pick. However your demonstration of your tool made it worth the watch.
When he mentioned the rake, it was game over for me. However, he picked it single pin. Nice. Classy.
Unity huh. More like: Uknow we just copy MasterLock. 🤣
The "pick" in anti-pick is maybe a synonym for select or choose, and therefor it means to choose another lock in the shop.
Took longer to get the tools out than it did to pick the lock... 😮🤣
1:01 Curious what kind of normal day is for LPL and that he'd be coming across locks like this?
Could you please make a video on the most annoying cheap features that make lock picking tedious?
Unusual keys, strength required for turning...
Strength is one of the best. When the lock gets slightly rusty and you struggle to open it even with the right key, it is hard for picking :D
Considering the prices of locks in this day and age, it's more lucrative to pick other peoples locks.
I would be so confused if someone took the lock of my bike and left the bike.
Picking seems way faster than making a spare key, in case you loose your key...
I came across a nearly identical lock that was branded "Defense²". It had a very hefty weight that made it feel like it was secure. But the core offered nothing in the way of security and fell just as quickly as this one did.
Who else remembers when LPL used to do longer videos 😭
He used to take them apart and showed us how they work. 😢
Imagine if they weren't all just ads for his company now, they'd be 39 seconds long
You must not watch regularly cause he has done both in the last month 🤦
For the Holidays, LPL should come out with some toys for the kiddos...."Baby's first lock pick" featuring a real MasterLock (with a plastic wave rake) and of course, the much sought after picture book, "101 uses for a carrot" for the parents.

"Everday carry Covert Companion"... Walking around town with a lock pick set every day. As one does
Anti-pick? Oh please be a rake 🤞😉
Or a carrot 🥕
bro casually mentions a black Friday sale after destroying a lock brand's anti pick reputation
yeah and then you check the website and 99% of stuff is not in stock.
"unpickable" locks are about as unpickable as the titanic was unsinkable
ANY lock with a keyway (keyhole) is pickable and ALL ships are sinkable.
I don't suppose that lock manufacturers have ever offered to pay you to help them design or improve their locks? They seem to believe that it is the promises on the packaging that sell their locks rather than the security they offer.
A long time ago you had a puzzle lock you hadn't defeated, I think it was Australian??? would love to see it done
I remember that too. It was an Australian lock (special crafted/modified for competition). I remember LPL said he picked it open but not on camera. And when on camera, somehow he couldn't pick it.
You make it look effortless
No carrots were harmed during the making of this video. Will LPL ever demonstrate what tricks he can do with a carrot?!
Wait until the 1st of April next year...
The only way he would get caught picking locks that he shouldn't is when he can't resist the habit to identify with "This is the lock picking lawyer" at midnight in front of a home.
I want to buy a padlock made by Covert Instruments
No fair! You picked the lock upside down!
Exactly my thought!
On those type of shutter see if u can find a pull tab from a soda can and press it tight to the lock body next to the shutter force the shutter over it and it will usually stay open
still no carrot 😢
It's recommended for garages and storage units because any picker can open it without damaging the door.
Usually you can wedge is pic between the door and the body to keep it out of the way
They use these on the storage unit I rented a few months ago.
Better hope LPL doesn't live nearby me 😂
Manufacturer: "anti-pick"
LPL: "Translation: only a token effort at any kind of security whatsoever... And we're in!"
Brilliant 👌 our mans a genius 🙏👊👍
Dam homie done made the Batman utility belt for lock pickers 😅
I can imagine the LPL in ancient times, offering to pick chastity belt locks :p
Just the fact that it needs to be single-pin picked instead of raking, bypassing, or giving it a sideways glance like a Master lock, puts it above 90% of other locks
LPL has the best commercials.
I picked a lock for the boss today. "Rats, I don't have the key."
Great video as always you should pick it like it is being used 😂😂😂
I'd have been funny if a raking would work, because that'd give a whole new meaning to the term "anti-pick".
If these pick guards become more common, one could cut some thing strips of tape and place them on the side of your CC, kind of like how campers and hikers will wrap their nalgene bottles with a few wraps of duct tape. Always have some.... doesnt take up much space......
LPL...have you ever met a lock you couldn't pick?
Asking for a friend
Daaaang... Just 20 seconds! Anything less than 30 makes for a bad lock!
It took longer to talk about the spring loaded shutter than it did to pick it 😂
Making things awkward for the picker: a piece of keyblank with heavy spring tension that has to be pushed in by the key during normal operation.
I'm gonna bet McNally will do a video showing him raking the lock as a challenge.
False advertisement lawsuits have been slacking in the passed decade...
These companies should have gone out of business long ago....
Well, you did hold it upside down to how it would be found in the wild.
Well that discus lock proved to be very disappointing, so much for pick resistance. Having said that most attacks will be brute force attacks and these locks do provide some resistance where that's concerned.
Get the feeling Masterlock could double the time it takes to open them just by fitting a spring-loaded cover.
Nicely done.
Now I'm curious how quickly this would rake when you would have had a piece of tape available.
Core peeks out of shutter. Sees LPL. Snaps shutter closed.
Imagine of that spring loaded shutter was attached to a better lock.
Disc locks should have a "hood" over the key hole so a rake can't be used on it. Only a short key could fit under the hood.
At this point, I am hard pressed to still call that bulky thing covert. The overt companion might be more apt by now.
Maybe the shutter is linked to the core so that when it is open, it stops the core from turning and only the key can (somehow) unlock the shutter to turn the core. I might be overthinking it, I am aware of this.
Well, at least it prevented it from being raked open. 😂
Not to be picky(pun intended), but if you were simulating "real life situation" then you would not be able to turn the lock upside down to access the cylinder. You'd have to do it as if it were latched. You know, to make sure it is not a fluke. Love the vids LPL!
Now only if you had another finger on your hand... that shutter is unstopable.
Call Webster's dictionary to re-define anti-pick to mean 20 seconds.
But does it survive the carrot attack
It's "anti-pick" in the same way that a typical door is "anti-intruder".
Deters 9/10 people
It was probably quicker for him to pcik it, than for a key to open it with that shutter.
I bet the pliers on a cheap chinese multitool would make short work of that shutter which would allow raking.
Dunno if shutter on this lock was intended to prevent picking, but at least it messes pretty good with LPL's camera (or sowtware) automatic sound volume adjustment.
high precision pins for positive picking.
I guess you could jam the shutter open with a carrot. It's not like you can eat them these days.
You just know it's gonna be good when they call it “anti-pick”
So if there was a key with round middle part, this shutter had a small cut that would match round middle of key, but not allow head of key to pass, user would have to have key inside and shutter closed to open lock, that would provide quite a security in itself?
Shutter when hitting middle of key would have it's pin align as well, so shutter would have to be in position of key, if it was full closed or open or broken off it would no longer allow to open lock.
Let me make it as difficult as possible....took me 15 seconds...whoohoo

Still enjoy the feedback the LPL shares to challenge the manufacturers to make a better product. Thanks for sharing.
The difference may be minimal, but it's still more than MasterLock provides. 😅
I guess LPL first have to genetically modify carrots into the shape of wave rakes before we can have a carrot pick video. Please hurry up! 🥕 🥕 🥕
I bet ElectroBOOM could come up with a way to make picking less convenient. 😂
Is their a Lock that you have never been able to Pick. love the video pressed that like button.

The explanation of which pick to choose due to the spring loaded shutter took longer than the picking.
I would've liked to see a 2nd go with tape and rake

They thought they were pick proof. They were just the background prop for a much superior brand.
