Narendra Modi has been in power for the last ten years, and, he seems to be on course to win a third consecutive term as the Prime Minister of the world’s largest democracy.
Modi aims to modernize India and turn it into a significant geopolitical player. He is skillfully navigating between the major power blocs and positioning India as the voice of the Global South.

India is growing at 7% and in nominal terms 10.5%. We are expected to become usd 7 trillion in GDP by 2030 and bigger in GDP(ppp) than US by 2040. So there ia certainly big reasons for optimism.

For example if you want to buy a bottle of 1.5 litres in Germany or other West European countries you need to spend Euro 4 (I am talking about the street corner shops and not supermarkets) whereas in India we spend only Rs 20 in any of the street corner shops. A bottle of water in Germany is 18 times costlier than India. Do you still want to calculate the GDP for India in USD?

India, as a whole, may be reckoned as a growing economic power, mostly because of its geographical size, which is as large as Europe minus Russia. It is now the most populated country in the world, with a middle-class population as large as that of the entire population of Europe.
India is known for its soft power, be it in the field of IT, Bollywood, and South Indian movies, especially its songs and dances. Hindu culture and tradition, including various forms of classical dances, songs, musical instruments, art, handicrafts, and food (Indian food is popular worldwide), also contribute to its soft power.
India is mostly an agricultural country with four distinct seasons and a vast network of rivers. The fertile Ganga-Brahmaputra delta, possibly the biggest in the world, contributes to its agricultural productivity. Additionally, its tea, cotton, and other agricultural products play a significant role in its economy.
As the population grows, there are greater transactions, which are increasing the economic growth rate. A large number of highly qualified and skilled Indians are working abroad, especially in the Gulf countries and the USA, and they are repatriating money back to India.
However, despite these economic strides, most Indians are still very poor and malnourished. India is a protein-deficient country, as the majority of the population prefer vegetables and grains over animal protein due to religious and traditional reasons.
The per capita income of India is even less than that of the poorest country in Asia, Bangladesh. Most Indians lack economic efficiency and employability, with very poor literacy and basic skills to work in modern factories.
Infrastructure Development: India faces challenges in infrastructure development, including inadequate transportation networks, power shortages, and deficient urban planning. Addressing these issues is crucial for sustaining economic growth and improving living standards.
Environmental Concerns: Rapid industrialization and urbanization have led to environmental degradation, including air and water pollution, deforestation, and habitat destruction. India needs to prioritize sustainable development practices to mitigate these environmental impacts.
Gender Inequality: Despite progress, gender inequality remains a significant issue in India, with disparities in education, employment, and political representation. Empowering women and promoting gender equality is essential for inclusive economic growth and social development.
Healthcare Access: Access to quality healthcare remains limited in many parts of India, particularly in rural areas. Improving healthcare infrastructure, expanding health insurance coverage, and enhancing healthcare delivery systems are vital for addressing public health challenges.
Education Reform: While India has made strides in increasing literacy rates, the quality of education remains a concern. Education reform is needed to ensure access to quality education for all, promote skill development, and enhance employment opportunities for the youth.
Corruption and Governance: Corruption and inefficiencies in governance continue to hamper India's development efforts. Strengthening institutions, promoting transparency, and combating corruption are essential for fostering a conducive business environment and attracting investment.
Regional Disparities: There are significant disparities in development outcomes among different states and regions within India. Addressing regional disparities in income, infrastructure, and social indicators is essential for achieving balanced and inclusive growth across the country.
Global Economic Integration: India's integration into the global economy presents both opportunities and challenges. Leveraging international trade and investment opportunities while safeguarding domestic industries and promoting equitable economic participation is crucial for maximizing the benefits of globalization.
Innovation and Research: Investing in innovation, research, and development is key to fostering technological advancement and enhancing competitiveness. Encouraging entrepreneurship, fostering collaboration between academia and industry, and incentivizing innovation are essential for driving economic growth and job creation.
Social Cohesion and Diversity: India's diverse cultural, linguistic, and religious landscape enriches its societal fabric but also poses challenges related to social cohesion and communal tensions. Promoting inclusivity, tolerance, and dialogue among diverse communities is essential for fostering unity and harmony within the nation.
However, the educated and professional middle-class population makes India an attractive market for consumer and consumer durables. Yet, the Indian tax system is often regarded as one of the worst in the world, burdening salaried middle-class families with high taxes, inflation, and spiraling prices.
There is a growing desire among educated Indians to break away from traditional Indian homes, seeking flats/apartments and cars for their small families. However, politics, class, and caste systems prevalent in villages and urban slums have undermined the social fabric of India, despite its rich and colorful culture and customs.
Religious hatred, stemming from differences in traditional beliefs, faith, custom, and culture, which are deeply rooted and passed down verbally over generations, has further complicated social dynamics in India.
India is still far behind in technological prowess compared to the Western countries. It has yet to produce its own patented, cost-effective, highly efficient, durable jet engines like Rolls Royce's, advanced semiconductor fabrication capable of handling Artificial Intelligence, Tesla-like electric vehicles, advanced medical equipment, and space shuttles and rockets like those of SpaceX.
India has a long way to go to become an economic superpower where poverty and malnourishment are things of the past and where it leads in technology.

10 years ago there we would never have had a positive discussion like this on India. Instead of ignoring or belittling India, the world is now paying attention. Interestingly most of India's issues today are a consequence of centuries of meddling in India by colonisers and non Indic religious groups. How well we are able to throw those monkeys off our backs will dictate how far India goes. We may not get this chance again for a long time.
