I'm 'about' the same age and one of my many jobs was working in a garage where H & S never existed!! I would reline brakes and sand them (what asbestos?), rebore engines, replace bearings etc - and my least favourite was spraying the underside of a car with underseal!! But in fairness Vauxhalls in 1960 would disappear in rust before the engine !!

I started my apprenticeship in 1975, did both light and heavy. Very rare to find a great mechanic who is comfortable and confident in front of a camera and can communicate and his knowledge and experience in someone so young is damn impressive. He will never be out of work.
This young guy certainly impressed me, a real asset to the business. I still can't get my head round the wet belt idea. Glad I have a chain belt on my motor the only issue I have had is guides wearing which were replaced at 95,000 miles.
Not just ford , I think Renault, Peugeot and probably Citroen + few others went down this insane route. I did see a kit for a Peugeot that changed from belt to chain with the pulleys being replaced with sprockets , a much better idea
What a fantastic young mechanic, I wish all mechanics were as conscientious and thorough as this. Well done and keep up the good work it was a joy to watch 👍
I'm aged 79 now and changed many cambelts with our kids, but it was regarded as a crime to get oiley fingerprints even on the new belt . Changing the belts was a fairly pleasant interesting job in the 1980/90s and only cost about £80inc the water pump . One volvo, several Vauxhalls ,and Leyland cars . Made a rule to change them at 40 000 miles. We thought Ford's were bad then but now, they and their likes are criminally badly designed. Graduates ? 😊
@558vulcanxh I would say, rather accountants. More failures=more money on spares. But, they have made a mistake in their calculations-those engines fail BEFORE the warranty expires-there is like 3 months wait at the dealers for the warranty repair. Ford's response-theyvwant to shorten the warranties AfTER the car sale!!
An absolute pleasure to watch. This young man is an inspiration for the next generation of garage guys, and gals, I'd be happy to have all my garage needs done here. Pat yourself on the back and be proud.
A brilliant video which shows a fully skilled mechanic who knows how to do the replacement of a cam belt in 4 hours. Unbelievable but that is why the charge of £1100 is such a realistic price - less than 2p per mile. Rather more complicated than when I used to change my Austin A35 timing chain at the roadside!!
£1100 is the price before adding 20% VAT which for those watching overseas is a tax added to anything we in the UK buy. Including the tax we pay on fuel. I.E. we pay fuel duty tax, and then on top of that we pay 20% on top of the fuel duty tax. They are taxing our tax payments. Don't you just love it?
I'd never have believed it till i saw it, a rubber timing belt immersed in hot oil 😮 we've gone from chains to belts, belts are best simply because you've got a service interval determined by age/mileage, simple and easy to change, back to chain, no service interval, maintenance free philosophy, till your tensioner fails or chain slips through wear/stretch......to this, £1100 as it stands now to change, I'd bet all the parts from Ford are £500, it wouldn't shock me if they more, it really wouldn't 👍
The young man here demonstrates that great keen young folk can still be found in the UK....he sets a fine example...bring back mechanics to all Grammar & secondary schools !!....Ford Transits needing this kind of " Surgery " at 66 K is a really bad show !.....for Ford !!

I've a 2015 Transit Custom owned from new. Don't think mine has the wet belt nonsense, but if it had, you look to have the skills required. Nicely made video
We recently moved to near Newton Abbot, Devon and bought a 2019 Transit Custom Van in 2023 with this engine. We purchased it from a local Ford main dealer with 50K miles and a full service history. We then had it professionally fully converted into our campervan. Although we've only done a couple of thousand miles since owning it (partly because the conversion took a few months to arrange and be finished) it's only got about 52K miles on the clock. However, we plan to do a lot more travelling in 2025 and want to have the wet belts changed very soon for peace of mind for a few years, thus are now seeking recommendations for a garage / mechanic to do this job, preferably locally (anywhere in the South Ddevon area, from Exeter to Torbay), but would consider further afield if necessary to get this quality and honesty of service.
Fantastic work, certainly one of few talented technicians in the UK. Would love to see a wet belt to chain conversion kit installed in these Fords and PSA engines. How about it?
Great video some good tips in there as well, can't help but say wet belts? nah not for me guess there's going to be a lot of these in the scrap yard, 😮
How can you tell they need replacing. I get that they fail earlier than Ford recommend d but what would you recommend. Great video - with your attitude, you’ll never be out of work!
Excellent video and mechanic. I do miss my old Transit (MK6) as it was a fabulous workhorse and never gave trouble in ten years, simple engineering. I will NEVER ever buy anything which has a wet belt, ever. Always was a spectacularly stupid idea.

Very professional I would definitely let them work on my cars 👍
Thank you 😊👍
Brilliant young Man!
I love the look of the MRST custom, my question is should I buy one?
Excellent video and mechanic. I do miss my old Transit (MK6) as it was a fabulous workhorse and never gave trouble in ten years, simple engineering. I will NEVER ever buy anything which has a wet belt, ever. Always was a spectacularly stupid idea.
Fantastic job, mate. Keep it up love the jobs.
Thank you 😊👍
Great job done by the young man
