Great video. I used to own a 118d with a N47 and lived in a state of constant fear of timing chain issues. A 2010 3 series with 160k can only be worth around £2k so the owner must really love it!
@@thecareditionltd You Chaps honestly do a great job and I guess like me are grateful for the content you put out there. In a round about way. Yes I'd like to know the oweners thought process on giving the go ahead on this. The logical thing to do is to scrap/sell as is and cut your losses. The problem the owner now has is this could be the start of many other things failing if previously havent already which in turn will make you feel even more compelled to spend on repair costs.
I have the same core engine in my 2002 Rover 75. MG Rover had the foresight to not use the swirl flaps or a dpf. They still have issues (blocked PCV valves, Crank pulleys) but are pretty much bullet proof and suit the car perfectly. I love watching you guys work, perfect work ethic.
These guys has really good experience and work very well I enjoy watching their videos They are so educational Only don’t understand how there are still people who continue to buy and drive these cars
machine also said poor maintenance on that motor. 330d M57 Owner here and its the best and longest car I've owned 🙌 mind you, I may of paid a higher price 7/8yrs ago full main dealer service history - we all know the saying, You pay for what you get!
I’ve got an N47 , 126k miles, occasionally has a slow crank when starting but no timing chain noise. 63 plate had it since new and changed oil and filter regularly, still drives like new and will drive until it dies !
I have an n47 with 2 snapped glow plugs and need to remove the cylinder head. Can I replace the head without removing the engine? I think I've seen it done before
Got f20 1 seires I had my chain done last year and I very lucky to say the garage said the chain guide had started to come part and found little piece in the oil pick up. 😬 and add clutch and flywheel on top because they was knackered 🙄 nearly die when I got the bill 😳
I wish I owned this car, because in 20-30 years time I can stay Gytis from Car Edition rebuild this car, which will be worth a few pennies 😉 #superstar
I think it’s quiet interesting to think that bmw think their cars are premium compared to say ford or Toyota or Nissan ,when in fact bmw are the worst ball of shit you can buy,EVERYTHING BREAKS and EVERY PART IS EXPENSIVE to replace,German engineering, complete balls of utter crap,I’d never own a bmw,I drive a 2011 focus 1.6 diesel with over 2 hundred thousand miles on the clock I’ve only ever done servicing and timing belt replace and a dpf remove, car causes no probs and drives like a dream,
Once a BMW, never again a BMW! Owning a BMW E91 was a real negative life experience for me, specially after successfully owning Toyotas for many years. Now happily back to Toyotas and Mazdas and very happy.
Shame you've been put off for life. I doubt I'll ever leave bmw. Don't tell me you got a 6 owner one with naff service history and was hoping it would be ok..
Now there is a real mechanic 🤙
@12:18 you used oil on PTFE crank seal, which is supposed to install dry and let it sit 12 hours to develop good seal !

6 minutes in to the video and I am thinking it will be cheaper to buy another car altogether! LOL!
In this case, you are correct 😁👍

Yep, I had one and it was a moneypit. Engine broke twice!?! €25000 total cost in 5 years. Sold it and never bought another car. Never buy the BMW N47!
^^^ stick with the M57 😊

M47 engine in yours mate ther earlier, much more reliable version of this engine no dpf crap to worry about as you say.
Great content, your mechanics are great, but whoever is recording/editing these videos is top notch 👌🏻
Presumably he wears a BMW hat when working on Mercedes. Great camera work focusing on the subject.
Thank you 😊👍
Thank you 😊👍
Very nice to watch to this kind of pure craftsmanship especially the explanation within!!! Thx😊
Thank you for watching 😊👍
Not even the crankshaft pulley was saved!!! Very good and very professional!!👍👍👍
Happy Holidays!!!🎄

Holy crap dude. That was impressive timing to get that engine out.

Profi job and a true mechanic sense of humor😂 Влад крут
Thank you 😊👍
How many mechanics in modern dealerships are able to carry out this level of work?
They'd said ..."Sir, you need a complete new engine"..
Great bit of work and although expensive you know have an engine for another 100k miles, better than getting another car and not knowing it’s history
Great workmanship! Enough said! Merry Christmas 🎄
Thank you! 😊 Merry Christmas 🎄
Very well done,great workmanship 👍👍
Thank you 😊👍
1 hour 10mins to take an engine out 👀 What a Job!
This guy no doubt knows what he’s doing, but a lot of the exaggeration is not necessary.
Do you suggest to delete Egr and DPF or not ? About the turbo and chain will save some miles if changed the oil most often ?
Absolutely class job well done
Thank you 😊👍
I laughed so hard when he said you shouldn’t be optimistic if you drive a BMW 😆
Luckily I'm still running an M57. What are the N57's like?
In our experience, N57 is similar if not worse in terms of carbon build up. They also have timing chain issues however less common compared to N47 😊👍
@ thanks for that, maybe hold off on a F11 530d then and stick with my old E46 330d touring
Same here M57 Best and longer car I've owned 👌

@WilliamCurrie-p9t maintenance is the key - treat ot well and it will do the sane to you.
the car is not worth that money,, however great video and job well done
Thank you 😊👍
Amazing work, very satisfying. How much was it total? They got everything done, lucky customer
I have an n47 with 2 snapped glow plugs and need to remove the cylinder head. Can I replace the head without removing the engine? I think I've seen it done before
Respect for your job 👌
Thank you 😊👍
Great Job! Well done 🫡
Thank you 😊👍
Booked in for an oil service… £3,000 😱. Great videos… the alternative Matt Armstrong.
Always replace heat exchanger gasket and funnels when you have engine outside…
Also balancer caps and water cooling flange on head
Great job on that 😊
Thank you 😊👍

The M47 had the same issue with the inlet flaps. Best thing to do was remove them
Absolute quality 👍
Thank you 😊👍
Greta video lads, probably too longer to get all that plastic off than to get the engine out 😂
Merry Christmas lads 🤙
Thank you 😊 Merry Christmas 🎄
Brilliant mechanic
Thank you 😊👍
Just knew that guy couldn’t help but show up 2.47😂
That car is max 3 grand and owner is fixing it tfk😂😂 nice video by the way
Thank you 😊👍
Great Job!
Thank you 😊👍
Excellent video
Thank you 😊👍
Just had the chains done on my Jaguar XF. Main dealer quoted a rough figure of £4.5k. Independent garage £2.3k using all Genuine Jaguar parts.
Like the videos, like the attitude :)
Thank you 😊👍
BMW, the bill is gonna be expensive
Hell of job man! 😊
Thank you 😊👍
Good Job
Thank you 😊👍
top job!! -well done! :)
Sick video
Thank you 😊👍
Epic !! 💪
Thank you 😊👍
This mechanic can fix a car using only a hammer and a tree stump.
😁👍
That's my saying, champagne lifestyle lemonade wallet 😂😂😂
Surely the bill for this is gonna be more than the car is worth by at least double.
5:50 exactly why i like petrol engines.
The "cap" is more reliable than the car
£4700 for all the work. How much is the car worth?
No idea why youtube is recommending this to me - I struggled to changes 3 spark plugs on the wife's Aygo last year. Interesting nevertheless.
My 118D 38000 mile on the clock, timing chain snapped, £5000+ , gear box replaced, god!!!i will never touch BMW again
Had yaself a 🍋 there mate

😄👍
wow so so expensive
It doesn’t have 8 flaps only 4
This customer will be in a world of pain and expensive repairs if he chooses to keep this car
Buy a BMW quality German engineering 😢
To be fair it lasted 160000 miles with a big lack of maintenance 😅
👏👏👏
😊👍
You guys are very cheap so cheap that it makes me think get a used working engine then paying 3k 👌 to save this engine
Great job, but a waste of money, that's a parts car.
BMW 'a quality product', I think not
Silicone mechanic 😅😂
Don’t u just love plastic in engine what a shit design I have 320d 1st think egr delete swirl flap delete
Dirty build
So many problems - bmw have really gone down hill.
Not worth repairing
To be fair it is a BMW from 2010, and designed even earlier. Bit dramatic.
I liked the 80’s
@@mcjjordan Fair point!
