    ANYBODY! how does he make the project play from playhead being in midi-editor (not from the main arrangement window). This setting in Ableton drives me crazy (in any other DAW you can set playhead being in whatever view - piano roll, note-editing - but in Live you have to go up to Arrangement view, while editing midi-notes and I found zero info about how to change this setting).
    Thank you very much in advance. If you open that secret, you're gonna make me and hordes of other people super happy.

      man, you rock! The funny thing is: I was so damn pissed out by this playhead behaviour that I messed around the shit out of it (sorry for this neologism) - but I was randomly checking out all possible combinations with the spacebar and by change ran into this Opt+Space .
      But thanks a lot anyway. I didn't expect such fast reply - so I'm checking it out only now. I should develop more trust in people. And thanks again - it's a true time saver!

    Big respect to deadmau5 for having the courage to show his raw workflow.
    Most artist only dare to show their final tracks, to make sure they make the best possible impression.
    But the truth is - everything sucks in the beginning. Iterative refinement is key to making good stuff.

      he was half right at least. Same as you.
      You forgot polyphony of at least 6 voices and a highpass filter.

    • @manwithadream2043
      @manwithadream2043 7 років тому +23

      awwww man cmon now.
      if you correct me, correct me right (there is no correction needed)
      first of all what you regard to as "polyphonic" in this case is rather called "unison". second of all he is using a LOWPASS-filter(not a highpass filter, but i think you just mixed the words up) triggered by an envelope, which itself is triggered by each incoming gate (midinote).
      what does unison mean?
      unison basically means a duplicate of an oscillator (in this case 5 times), which is slightly detuned. Also if you wish so (like in this patch) the phase of each duplicate will be different, meaning the "startingpoint" of each wave will be different (which is the case in this patch - the random knob).
      So my Statement is still right in the sense that the base of this sound can be replicated by setting up 2 sawwaves with slight detune. Unison (or duplicate your 2 oscs many times and detune each instance a little differently and if u can adjust Phase) thickens everything up AF though, so do that ! ;D
      am a bad writer
      cheers

      Actually Andrew Simper created the filter.
      And all he does at this video ( and many others at this channel ( Where he create "awesome" synth patches ) ) is put a simple init saw, detune the hell outta it, soft filter it, put a delay on the patch, and after the delay use a reverb for fill out the space between the delayed bits. it's nothing special. :)
      If you think that's crazy good, then i can recommend you checking out some of Richard Devine's patches ;)
      Richard Devine - Risp 2012 for example.
      Also it's not about against Mau5 or something, it's just simple basic synthesis and that's all. Even he said that in the serum breakdown video with Steve .

    Is there a very technically inclined person that could extract the audio and put the file up for download? Crediting Deadmau5 of course! EDIT: I mean the song itself, not the parts where he edits... like make a continuous song without including his stops/breaks when he adjusts his settings etc.

    My friend will do awesome stuff like this, by that I mean he'll make a beautiful song & maybe post it on his soundcloud for a week... I hear it & think "this shit is REALLY good!!"... next day I'm thinking "I wanna hear that again", but then he's taken it down, so I say Hey dude that one was really good, why'd u take it down? & can u at least put it back up but mark it as private so at least I CAN KEEP LISTENING TO IT even if u don't want other people to hear it anymore? & he'll tell me "nah man I got rid of that one, I got something better I'm workin on"... which is good because he's pushing himself to be better, but I'm always thinking "man, that track was great... there was nothing wrong with it...people would love it! Why did you have to completely erase it off you're computer? Your hard drive has plenty of space... you could at least just save & keep the file for a while & maybe check it out again later & maybe you'll see that it was fucking awesome to begin with... maybe it just wasn't your own personal favorite of your own work at that time, but damn! I see you just making gold & then just throwing it in the trash! .... Last time I hung out with him, we were in his car & as he drove he was scrolling through the mp3s on his iPod... he played a new song of his that I hadn't heard yet & as usual, I loved it, but I thought it soon wouldn't exist, so later that night I asked him to play it again & sneakily was running a voice recorder app on my phone while I sat in the passenger seat holding my phone's Mic next to one of his car's speakers so that I could AT LEAST have THAT audio recording memory of yet another awesome song he'd made that, of course, might soon not exist...

  • @7XHARDER
    @7XHARDER 6 років тому

    (not that I have any real say in the way he produces) But I feel like deadmau5 should have listened to the chords first without an arp to get a good idea of what he wants the background of the track to sound like before altering it as an arp. He still gets interesting results, but everytime he changes a note the arp has to catch up and reset which can sound a bit confusing... I wish I had a computer to make music again, he inspires me so much...

  • @tamezzodiac2862
    @tamezzodiac2862 Рік тому

    Realistically idk why everyone is freaking out. It was ok, but realistically it wasn't anything too unique and he is always looking for something unique. He probably has thousands and thousands of scrapped ideas cause he isn't feeling it. I save all my scraps but realistically I shouldn't as I'll never go back to them. Some things click some don't and sometimes ideas are just not felt especially if ur someone like Joel. I mean he is looking for something specific each time and all he does is sit and make shit, so if he ain't feeling it, then it's gone. Someone like joel for example live inside melodies. They are everywhere for him and abundant. If that's the case then this was far from something special for him. Joel also cares a lot about what he likes so even if others would like it, he really mostly operates off of if he is feeling it. Just like strobe. He almost deleted strobe. He never probably would've guessed that would be like his biggest song.
