  • The Rad Power Bikes RadRunner Plus is the fully accessorized version of the RadRunner electric bike. This is a compact utility ebike with unique 20" x 3.3" fat tires and adjustable suspension fork (compression, lockout, rebound). Comes stock with extended seat and flip-down pegs for a passenger, as well as extra wide fenders and an upgraded 500 lumen headlight. Also compatible with the standard racks, bags, and Yepp! child seat. Integrated lights, including a blinking rear light that goes bright when the brakes are pulled, reflective tires, and metallic silver frame improve safety by keeping you visible. Seven speed drivetrain makes starting, climbing, and pedaling at higher speeds much more comfortable. Nice aluminum alloy chainring guide keeps clothing clean and snag-free while reducing chain drops, steel derailleur guard protects the sensitive parts during shipping and when passengers are riding. Large 180mm disc brake rotors provide excellent stopping power and control, both brake levers have switches that cut power to the motor. This ebike is available in the US, Canada, and Europe with RAD optimized 750, 500, and 250 watt 5 to 1 planetary geared hub motors (meeting the upper legal limit in each country). Strong 80nm peak torque and good mechanical advantage given the smaller wheel diameter makes this a decent climber and passenger hauler. The twist throttle offers full power, overriding 0-5 assist for instant starts and quick boosts when climbing or catching up to friends. Upgraded aluminum alloy pedals feel sturdy and smooth. Extra long seat post and adjustable high-rise handlebar offers great fit for many body types. Suspension corrected geometry isn't just a copy of the basic RadRunner. Upgraded LCD display panel with USB charging port. The included saddle is not adjustable forward and back or tipping because it's designed to fit perfectly with the passenger seat. Optional console box does not lock. The bike is very heavy at 74.4lbs despite the small appearance.

I have a Plus and I absolutely love it. When I ordered it, the original was in stock and the plus was a 2 month wait. I decided to wait and let me tell you it was 100% worth it. The gears....I couldn't imagine not having them. The front shock, the fenders and passenger package are also things I couldn't live with out. I ride it everyday for work . I have 500 miles on it already. It's been through rain several times and yesterday I rode through the slop, ice and snow left over from a huge storm the day before. So far I've had zero issues. One thing I would recommend is bumping up the top speed to 40k. You can change this in the settings. Factory setting get me between 17 and 20 mph. Usually under 20 most of the time. Bumping it up gets me averaging 20-24 mph. That 4 mph doesn't sound like much but it makes a noticeable difference.

Received mine 2-weeks ago, based on this review-I’m highly impressed and still on the honeymoon phase. You want to consider upgrading the seat post and seat if you plan to be riding on rougher terrain; also recommend getting a sturdy phone mount and short USB cable for those longer rides when you want your phone for music/podcasts or navigation.
Grats on the purchase and enjoy the new bike.

@@ElectricBikeReview Love your detailed and beautiful review ! For us guys in very hilly parts of Europe, I trust your advise, what would be the "strongest" Pedelec with the most torque (Nm) ? (25km/h limit)
There was a very intersting test, I bet your viewers would love you do something among those lines -
In theory BBS01(B) with 20 inch wheels would be the best combination, but see this review : ebikereviewer.com/index.php/2019/04/01/electric-bike-hub-motor-review-and-comparison-bafang-dapu-shengyi-and-more/ (advertised torque doesn't match real torque).
I, myself, live in very hilly conditions with 15-20% (!) hills, yes percentedge not degrees. And I own the old Radwagon (750Watt) which on level 5 and maximum human input does barely go up to 11km/h uphill.
Thanks in advance, keep the great work comming !

Welcome back to Vancouver BC Canada. Thank you for your thorough reviews. I bought my RRP because the way you described it. We have had an excellent customer service from RAD Power Bikes. A couple of things should be considered to improve in this RRP: One, the saddle and passenger seat, they are hard. The other thing could be useful to have a a pair of bars to put on the panniers underneath the passenger seat. Overall, this bike is fun!

Not sure if this is common knowledge but the motor is actually a Bafang 500 Watt motor. If you bought in the US, they claim to have a 750 Watt motor, but it is still a 500 Watt. If you bought in Canada, they claim it to be a 500W motor, which is accurate. The controller in the US is programmed a little differently than in Canada, so there is a little more power (not much).
There are companies out there that sell kits with a true 750W motor and controller that you can directly swap out with Rad bikes (you can swap either one or both). In the youtube videos you can see the physical difference in size to know that the stock motor is not 750W.
Anyway, I bought this bike for my wife and plan to swap out the motor next spring (if she lets me :)

Bah! I'm 78 and I just rode a RadWagon yesterday in Vancouver. Not going to buy that one. Feels too industrial. Mainly I am not impressed with the delay in getting started. This would be common to all Rad bikes. If someone, like the sales rep, leaves it in a higher gear it is pretty difficult to get going since the cadence sensor doesn't bring the power assist in until the pedals are turning. Hard to get that to happen when starting out uphill in a higher gear. My legs are too short for most of the Rad bikes (29 inch inseam) so this RadRunner looks really interesting. The ride on the RadWagon was not something I would want to buy into. WAY too hash (but they probably had the tire pressures way too high too). This bikes suspension forks would help with that. Will have to go back and ride it. And I will be checking out the Rize bikes too. They are in Richmond so I will be riding one of those as well. They use a torque sensor to bring in the power assist rather than a cadence sensor which should make it a bit smoother on uphill startup. Hydraulic brakes too! Still got some tires to kick.

Great review! I just tried a Rad Wagon yesterday. Not for me! Very harsh ride (tire pressures might have been way to high). The steering felt very sensitive, as if the forks were nearly vertical. That may have been due to the handlebars being as high as they would go and way too close to my face. I did use that wonderful adjustable handlebar feature to get them down and away from me a bit and it did feel a lot better, but I still would never have tried riding no hands on that bike. Seeing you riding this thing no hands makes me think I rode exactly the wrong bike. And, what a great headlight! I will be going back to try the Rad Runner Plus for sure. Thanks!

Great video; thinking about buying, and your review was really comprehensive. I have to wonder why, if they wanted to give riders an option to sit level with their passengers, they didn't just make the passenger seat a bit higher? Seems a shame to limit the functionality of the seat, for one thing, and it's probably not really safe for most average sized adults to ride with their knees bent at such an acute angle. Since I'm not really planning to have passengers, I'll probably get one though. It looks like a great bike, and worth the $500 upgrade.

Best overall features for the broadest group of riders....nimble, good power (U.S. version) and suspension for big riders, low, step-thru frame for easy access for all.....now, Rad... lets work on a cadence sensor that more closely approximates the benefits of a torque sensor..... can it be done ???

I just received my rad runner plus last week and have been making some mods like a oversize comfort seat, water bottle cages and what I consider essential are some pedal extenders for my extra wide feet. Also, I got a shock absorbing seat post for the new comfort seat. The one thing I really dislike is the OEM seat. It is nothing short of brutal. Within a few minutes of riding, all I could think about was just how uncomfortable that seat was. I read all the negative comments on the seat and figured I could replace that seat with something that would be more comfortable. I would also add that I am a transtibial amputee (med speak for below the knee) on my left leg. I found it difficult to use my old bike due to balance issues when starting out and stopping. Now I can use the twist throttle and the pedal assist to get me going. I feel much safer on my rad runner plus.

However, Lectric just came out with Lectric Stepthru 2.0 (Adding comfort package and cargo package) bike is around $1,200. I know the two bikes may not be exact same when it comes to comparison since one is folding and the other is not but with a 700 dollar price difference between two am I getting a better product or just paying more for essentially same thing. Please help me decide if I should keep my RadrunnerPlus or get lectric 2.0 (With comfort/cargo) package.

Too bad you lose the motorcycle style kick stand. It is very convenient when placing a child (on child seat) or groceries on the bike. I picked the regular RadRunner so I could ride the metro/subway w/o needing to hold the bike.

The bikes are so well designed, but I was annoyed by the level of quality control. Maybe I was spoiled because my haibike was perfect out of the box, this wasn't. As long as you don't mind adjusting disk brakes and the derailleur and such, it's kind of a neat bike. On the subject of the 750 watt motor, it's more accurate to call it a 750 watt controller. I could send 750 to a computer fan and call it the same. The torque isn't very good, I can imagine an older person still having to walk it up steep hills. Once again, my expectations for my wife's bike probably weren't realistic, because the only other ebike I've purchased cost over 2x as much.

One of the best reviews ever. I live in Belgium and I want to buy one of these bikes but I am not very sure what to chose. The Radrunner 2 or the Radrunner Plus? I see that the Radrunner Plus has 4 more kilograms than Radrunner 2. I like Radrunner 2 because is simpler, with the central kickstand, with less parts that could broke or need adjustments. But the Radrunner Plus, has a lower rear rack that suits me more because I want to install baskets in front and in the back and the LCD display with five levels of assistance. I don't know whitch of the two has a better cable management for the motor. If the money is not an issue, what of those two you would buy? Thanks!

Nice looking and a decent e-bike but between the weight limit & 750 watt, 80nm motor it isn't enough for 2 average size adults unless you NEVER go uphill.
I've never seen a controller built into a battery. Are you sure you're not thinking of the BMS (battery management system)?
My personal preference for the display of battery power is voltage which doesn't seem to be an option with Rad.

Do you know if that means that the limited one comes with the package and the other one doesnt? It would make sense as the silver "limited" one also costs 100€ more.

Hi Alita! I would personally spend the money to upgrade to the RadRunner Plus model, because the suspension fork is the best part (in my opinion) and that's the most expensive and time consuming to upgrade... it might not even be possible given the component shortages. The upgraded headlight and passenger package are both nice, but the suspension fork is what really does it for me :)
