This video was everything I needed to know and more. Finally a non biased view from 2 obviously wise people. Also, this man wins at life. A beautiful positive wife, an RV life, and now ebikes. God bless the both of you and thanks for this information.
Awww, thanks so much! Big hugs to you! We now have an ebike playlist with reviews, check it out here: ua-cam.com/play/PLSTkbVK0L14VAOJivDCprYn7Cs904xhBc.html
@@LizAmazing hello from Ireland, appreciate your video, was thinking about getting an e bike, I am a bit over weight, I was enquiring about the keteles k800 2000 watt duel motor, each hub 1000 watts, the battery is 48v 23ah I think , could you give me any advice. Thank you
this video helped me understand a lot. THANK YOU. Quick story. I was riding with my husband yesterday in a very mountainous, beautiful area in Pennsylvania. I became so sad to the point of tears. My husband was taking on the hills with so much ease, and I had to keep getting off my bike, and so I felt like I was holding him back. I told him I wanted to purchase a pedal assist bike to avoid constantly getting off the bike, and having an ABSOLUTELY MISERABLE bike ride. I'm going to write down EVERY SINGLE suggestion. THANK YOU!
Awww, thanks so much for sharing!! Ebikes make all the difference. We just did a 1000 mile review on Paul’s bike, it may be a good fit for you, check it out: Electric Bike Review | Juiced CrossCurrent X | 1000 mile ebike review | Fulltime Rv Living ua-cam.com/video/5X6C1oCxPUg/v-deo.html
I think one or two additional considerations could be helpful. For those who want to transport their bicycle and have a sedan with a trunk, and don't want to use an external rack, there's an option to get a folding bike, with a little smaller wheels. There are also weight variations in these. I purchased a Lectric Lite which is around 46 pounds. So you can fold the bike frame and handle bars, so you can put it in the trunk to go to a park or some destination. I (and some others) use a moving blanket under/over the bike which helps protect the bike and makes it easier to slide it a little while putting it in, taking it out. For me, I live in a congested traffic area, and wanted to ride at a forest preserve bike path (a few miles away), or similar further away spots. Although the bike wheels are smaller, 20 inch, the bike handle bars and seat post extend further so it works fine to use for a standard height adult. I think seniors need to seriously consider using a step through frame which makes it easier to get on or off, particularly if the person has any joint or leg problems affecting mobility, which will impact their ability to mount or dismount from the bicycle. Some people have posted UA-cam videos that are using an eBike (a while) after having had knee replacement, in part to get exercise and move their joints, but have difficulty lifting their leg very far to get on or off.
A step through frame is needed especially if you have a back rack and baskets etc on the rear of bike. I learned this the hard way on my regular 10 speed bike with large frame and "27" tires! It is not easy getting in my ten speed by lifting my leg to get on.lije mounting a horse! I am buying a new E bike and the step through frame is the first item I am making mandatory.
I want to personally thank you for making this video. Before watching it, I was confused about the whole battery thing. I had read plenty about them, but I still couldn't make heads or tails. But through your easy and simple explanation, the fog has disappeared and I finally know exactly what I'm looking for.
Thank you. That' very kind. Your comment made our day. We recently did a review on Paul's bike. He's had it for 1000 miles. Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/5X6C1oCxPUg/v-deo.html
I was laid off due to COVID. I took all my money and bought an rv to live full time. Your guide was very helpful and I love your vibe. Thank you so much!
That is awesome! Congrats on your new life. I ended up on the road due to divorce. I am (now) really grateful to have gone through that because it led me here. Welcome to the channel. We just did a 1000 mile review on Paul's bike. Check it out: ua-cam.com/video/5X6C1oCxPUg/v-deo.html
Hi John! Fulltime life is not for everyone but it IS the right life for me. Ask yourself how much alone time you need or want, how comfortable are you with uncertainty, how good are you at fixing things? Does life on the road call you? Is it something you think about often? If there is a way you could test out this lifestyle first, then I would recommend that. Or start small and cheap. I started with a camper van. After five months I couldn't take the small space but I knew I loved the RV life so I upsized. There are many many ways to do this life including less travel or even wintering in one place.
The information I need it, I'm 54 and the sport I love the most is cycling, but since I got to this contry I stop, now I'm old and out of shape, but E-bikes are giving me a new hope. But I need it all the knowledge you just give us. Thanks, Gracias a Jehova for youtubers like you guys. I will start looking for my E-bike.
Hi Iliana, and you're very welcome. I Love cycling and e-bikes were just what the Dr ordered. At 68 I was feeling like I just couldn't keep up with the big dogs anymore so I took an e-bike out for a ride and it was big hit. I was able to do ALL the pulling so my buddies were happy about it too. Good luck on your search for the right bike. P.
After my experience with ebikes, the first question I would ask is how expensive is a replacement battery. I bought an inexpensive ebike from Walmart about 10 years ago and was very happy. The bike did everything I wanted and was a joy to ride. It cost somewhere around 800-900 dollars. However after about 100-200 miles of use the battery kept dying sooner and sooner until it wouldn't last one ride. I rode it 10 miles a day, 2 days a week to work and back and charged it after each use. It turned out that when I bought the bike I should have drained the battery down all the way and recharged it a few times so the battery wouldn't develop a memory. This was not in the instructions in the owner's manual; it was a reply to a customer question and I didn't see it until the problem had already occurred. When it happened I thought no big deal, just buy a new battery. Then I found out the battery cost $500.00. That's more than half the cost of the bike! That was a little too much for me. So buyers beware.
Wow, your battery did not last long at all. So sorry about that. And you make a good point, the battery is off in the most expensive component of an e bike. Thanks for your comment.
Well duh,,,,,you bought a low end el cheapo bicycle with a little electric motor and battery,,,the battery was the most expensive part so what did you expect.
I own a Trek Verve e-bike (love it!) and two major consideration before purchasing are repairs and warranty. When your motor, display or battery need repairing or replaced where are you going to take it? What’s covered under the warranty? The batteries alone can cost up to $500. Trek has an excellent warranty and ubiquitous stores. Buying an e-bikes on-line from a company with no physical store was a sticking point for me. And I can almost guarantee many of these companies won’t be around a few years from now. Ask before you buy.
Those are excellent points! If you are going to buy an ebike online, we recommend calling your local bike shop to see if they will service it. It's true that it is much better to test ride a bike in person versus buying online. However, the savings online can be pretty tempting! Enjoy your Verve!
Thanks for this video, this was one of the best short videos for potential ebike purchasers to guide them to buy a bike that works for them. I purchased an ebike for my wife 5 years ago, and purchased the wrong bike for her so this video will be very helpful for those that are contemplating a purchase. Even though we are looking for the right bike for my wife she has still enjoyed her bike tremendously. Ebikes are fantastic for people that are not interesting in training all winter so they can enjoy long ride during the biking season.
Hi Doug! Thanks so much for your comment. E-bikes really are a game-changer, aren't they? I am glad your wife is enjoying hers. Wow, five years ago? You really were ahead of the curve. We just did a review on Paul's bike. He's ridden over 1000 miles on it, check it out: ua-cam.com/video/5X6C1oCxPUg/v-deo.html
I see many bike racks installed on vehicles that block the rear brake lights. For added safety; Remember when you are using a bike rack on the rear of your vehicle you don't block off your brake lights. When I installed my 2" trailer receiver hitch,I wired the receiver at the same time with a four prong receiver just incase I wanted to pull a small trailer. Any small or large trailers require. Most automotive shops sell LED light kits you can install on your rack.I purchased mine from Princess auto for $30. Simply plug the lights directly into your trailer 4 prong plug for added safety. Thanks and have a safer day.
E-bikes are great! I used mine to travel to work for 5 years where each day was a 25 miles round trip. Over the 5 years I travelled the equivalent of around the world! It kept me fitter and saved a ton of money in petrol and car costs. My e-bike had a twist throttle, as well as pedal assist, which was great for quick getaways from junctions and traffic lights, etc, I never had a problem with twisting it by accident. My e-bike was a relatively cheap generic chinese bike with a rear wheel hub motor. The quality was not up to german standards but then maintenance and parts were cheaper! I love your yellow/orange smiley shirt by the way! Thanks for posting.
Hi Barry! Thanks for your comment and your endorsement of ebikes. I love mine! I've had one only since January and I absolutely ride more frequently and further than I ever did with my traditional bike. Happy riding to you!
I hear what your saying, I'm on my second year with a ebike, before I was paying $40 aweek for fuel, and $40 for parking, my power bill did go up $120 a quarter, but all in all I'm saving $70 aweek and I fitter,
This was an EXTENSIVE and very COMPREHENSIVE breakdown on ebikes - we had no idea how in-depth they really were. Wow, grateful to have watched this video. We have chatted about ebikes recently and this will be a video that we will leverage when making that further consideration! Thanks Liz and Paul!! And Paul... your shirt was fun!
As a noob considering my first E bike I found this very informative. I've also been a serious road cyclist and I originally questioned the validity of Ebikes. Yet there were times--many times--I found myself thinking, "I wish this thing had a motor"! So what it comes down to for me is that Bikes seem like a lot more fun than a regular pedal bike. And more fun is what I want to have these days (I'm 71 and super fit). Thanks for a helpful push in that direction!
Love my Ebike. We bought the right ones the first time fortunately. We have the electric Veego folding Fat Tire bikes from Ridescoozy - 500w 13ah is plenty of power for us. Paid only about $1500 ea. Has pedal assist on and off so we can just pedal if we want to. We have the twist throttle and have had no problems and no issues regarding the bike taking off if touched. Probably a general warning given on the video on the off chance it could happen, but I find I would really have to twist that throttle on purpose for any movement but then again I don't turn my assist on until I'm seated on the bike. Maybe mine has some safety feature I'm not aware of. Anyway, I love everything about our bikes. We've used them everywhere, love the welded racks on the frames and the fun colors. Came fully assembled and Jason and Ronda gave excellent customer service. Jason tests out all the bikes before the white glove delivery. All we had to do was to put on the pedals. It's been 100% fun for us with zero problems. That was 9 months ago. Great so far!
Hi Sue! That's an awesome review! And what a great deal you got. I started shopping in October and I noticed prices inching upward. And glad to hear that you've had no problem with the twist throttle. I think they must have a safety feature or a better designed throttle. I test rode a $4000 Pedago with the twist throttle. Besides being so heavy that I couldn't keep it upright, that twist throttle seemed out to get me. And then I broke my hand during the test ride! Could NOT wait to get that thing back to the bike shop! Happy riding! I hope you've been able to get outside and enjoy that during all this time. Honestly, my bike has been my lifeline during these times. Stay safe!
After watching 43 sec. I just want to say, how cute are you, holding hands, and being so fit for your age. Kudos to you both and btw, that shirt is hilarious, hehe.
Thanks so much!!! We just met maybe five months before shooting that video. Here's our story of meeting on the road: ua-cam.com/video/jvWDUG3zgdA/v-deo.html
@@GM-jv9jz Hahaha, it's new love, natural to be clingy. Not to worry, will stop soon enough once the illusion of him being the perfect partner is lifted, heehee.
Pedal assist with torque sensor is critical! Cadence sensors starts the motor when the chain ring turns, but they activate the motor based on pressure.
The torque sensor senses how much pressure you are putting on the pedals and provides assistance based on that value. A cadence sensor simply gives you assist when it senses the pedals are being turned. Yes, good point that this is also something to look for when shopping for an e-bike. Paul's bike has both systems and he just did a 1000 mile review on his. Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/5X6C1oCxPUg/v-deo.html
Awesome information, This is the video I was looking for. I'm on the market to buy my first ebike and I don't wanna make a mistake of buying the wrong one. Thanks for the advice and information!

I love your videos, you're so helpful! I love that you put the important stuff in the description too so I can read the info you're giving as well. Thank you so much!
Great discussion. Disagree on a few points: - throttle only is best for me. I pedal all the time and use the throttle to help as needed - as a former motorcycle rider, I am totally comfortable with a twist throttle Agree: - wattage is the power of the motor. Higher wattage means more power for hills, but uses more electricity. Wattage does not make the ebike faster. For more speed, higher motor+battery voltage . - range is very often exaggerated A LOT. Range will vary based on total weight, tire size, tire pressure, hills, trail surface, your pedaling power etc. - I recommend 749 watt motors which is the max watts allowed on bicycle trails in my state. notes: My ebike has a 48v motor, and uses a 52v battery. I ride a 20+ mph commute and get about 1 mile per amp hour of the battery. Slower cruising I could go further. My ebike is homemade and is VERY heavy (about 100+lbs) with 4" tires, and still feels heavy after the two batteries have been removed. A co-worker has a lightweight road ebike with mid-motor. His ebike is far lighter and much more efficient than mine, but he takes every opportunity to ride my ebike because it is so much fun. We have both run out of battery power on a few rides and his lightweight ebike is much easier to pedal home if the battery dies on the way. Mid-motors have gears and make more noise than hub motors, but they are nice because they put the additional weight of the motor in the middle of the ebike. If you have a long commute for your bike, get a second charger and keep it at work. If you want to spurge, get a second battery to keep at the office so you can exchange immediately have one fully charged and ready to get home. I ride with both batteries on my ebike and I keep a charger at work. My co-worker has only a single battery which must be re-charged (hours) before he can ride back home. In Europe, ebikes MUST be pedal-assist ONLY.
Thank you for the video. I ordered my first E bike a month ago and patiently (kinda) waiting for it to arrive in late August. Thank you for shooting some of the video footage here in San Luis Obispo county we love our tourist. Bike riding is a great way to social distance right now. Thanks again and stay safe and healthy.
We were there 76 days on lockdown. TONS of great biking! I bet you are counting the days for that bike to get here! Happy riding to you and thanks for your comment.
Great video guys, a lot of great information here. One thing worth noting is the importance of researching an Ebike that will match your height. The multiple frame, wheel, and tire sizes should be a determining factor on which bike you should get, especially if that model is not available in different frame sizes. Seat post adjustment is one thing that helps, but that doesn’t remedy the situation completely since E bikes are using larger wheels and the popular fat tires. Love your videos, have fun out there!
Bought my first e-bike which was throttle only in 2022. I returned it in less than 10days. Bought Pedal assist, loving it and just ordered a bigger pedal assist/ throttle with bigger battery juice.
This is a very helpful video! ive learned so much from this especially on understanding the range, that bit was most helpful. Great job you two! Excited to have my first ebike
Glad it was helpful. Ebikes are awesome- you can't help but smile when you ride one. Paul recently did a review on his bike. Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/5X6C1oCxPUg/v-deo.html
For riding an E Bike there are a few things NEEDED. 1 is the shocks and discs brakes for the speed... 2 size of tires to handle speed and balance..3 is the battery specs. I looked at 12 different types of EBikes ad found the MUKKETT TO FIT THESE NEEDS WHEN DEALING WITH 20PLUS MPH besides the right price. The width of tires is a must if you riding extra weight besides your own. Anything less than 2 inches wide will make bike vulnerable to slipping and too heavy of weight load.
I put a front wheel kit on my old beach cruiser, it's been great. The most expensive part was that battery. I do have a twist throttle and it's been fine for me.
That's awesome! Paul has always wanted to convert a regular bike to an ebike. Since you built it, I am sure you are super aware of that twist throttle. Happy riding to you!
@@Edwardsjourney I got mine off e-bay but I see these guys have a similar kit www.costway.com/1000w-48v-26-x-1-95-front-wheel-electric-bicycle-kit.html e-bay kit www.ebay.com/itm/Voilamart-Electric-Bicycle-E-Bike-26-Front-Rear-Wheel-Motor-Conversion-Kit-/322247604604?var=&hash=item0 you'll have to figure out a battery, I had those wire baskets in the back so I made some boxes to fit in them and got some used cells from batteryhookup.com/collections/lifepo4-batteries but it looks like they don't have the LiFePo4 batteries right now. That battery thing is tricky and needs some study. Can be dangerous but is do able. I would suggest doing some math first. It might be better to just buy an e-bike. Check out Rad, nice bikes at good prices. www.radpowerbikes.com/products/radrover-step-thru
Hello, i picked out a cheap bike off e bay $629.99 shipped with 350 watt motor and 10.4 amp battery., About 15 MPH on the sand and 19 MPH ON THE BOARDWALK, ,and faster with the wind on my back., Nice because of my bad leg I can now get to the back bay fishing spots. Electric bikes are fine in Atlantic City BOB
Just ordered my wife a Rad City 3. Rad bikes are rad! I'm still looking for a kick ass hybrid with good suspension. For sure pedal assist and throttle. Get a spare battery for the somewhat occasional long trips.
1st time I've seen your channel! Going to retire from teaching this year after 40 years. Got my 2 daughters in college (& paid for)!! I will be buying an electric assist soon, looking at the Tern G10 cargo that has 2 batteries, to zipp around towns on. Thanks for info on watts & amps! Having a Ford Transit Tall built out & will move into it full time to travel like you 2 are. Bike will be stored in garage by opening back doors, then below bed. Looking forward to virtual bike tours!!
Hi Pat and welcome to the channel! Sounds like you've got some good things going on for the future. Congratulations on your upcoming retirement-- 40 years of teaching is quite an accomplishment. Paul is checking out your bike online - he has 998 watt hours with his large single battery- at $2500, which is more than the Tern's 900wh and less than the $4000 price. Not sure if he is looking at the same bike you are. Check out our review on Paul's bike: ua-cam.com/video/5X6C1oCxPUg/v-deo.html Thanks again for saying hi. Be sure to ring the bell to get notifications of our next videos. And welcome to the A-Team!
Thanks, Very informative and entertaining even to an 80 year old that's on his 3rd e-bike. My wife and I got rid of one car and I now use my e-bike to do all sorts of local shopping as well as ride every Sunday 30 mile round trip with friends with whom I'e been riding with for 40 years, I'm the only one in a group of 7 or so with an e-bike, oldest rider is 85. One point of contention with your assessment of 250 watt motor is, that for me, whose, terrain is mostly flat, with some hills thrown in, a 250 watt front hub kit with a 36V, 9 amph battery is more than adequate to give me all the assistance and mileage i need. I converted a Specialized Sirrus carbon fiber hybrid bike with a Swytch kit and I love it, most of the time I'm in level 1 or 2 assistance mode and can outpace my friends, all in great shape, all riding hi-tech bikes. I chose a 250 watt kit after doing a lot of research and found it to be cost effective and light. Thanks again for a great video but don't knock a 250 watt motor.
Hi Peter. You are right! If you don't need assist up hills (or don't have hills near you) then a 250W is just fine. In fact, 250W is all that's legal in Europe. All it means is you'll be doing more of the work going uphill. Glad to hear you are enjoying your ebike. If you want to go on a bike ride with us in the real world, here's our video about an upcoming bike tour we are doing: ua-cam.com/video/BmQh0Gzrz40/v-deo.html
Looks like you are having so much fun enjoying each others company, and taking care of each other. That laugh, when the guy unzips his shirt and his reaction, is gold. Great couple 👍
Sir/Mam, This was the best explanation of ebikes that I've ever seen. I've been looking for a while and finally got an explanation I can understand. Even the bike shops are pretty vague when explaining range power volts and watts. Thank you
Well, thank you so much. We thought this might be helpful for e-bike shoppers. And we have noticed how some bike manufacturers bury those all-important specs. Paul just did a 1000 mile review of his e-bike. Check it out here: youtu.be/ 5X6C1oCxPUg And happy e-biking to you!
I bought the Prodeco Outlaw almost 7 years ago and still have it. I rode motorcycles/bikes all my life...when I get on it...BEFORE moving, I say "this bike it going to TRY AND KILL ME"..and then I start my ride.......good advice. These things will THROW YOU. This bike is fast ...it advertises 30 mph and is off-road. The battery cost was $900 and the total bike price in 2014 was $2300. I would probably advise a lower priced bike to start..I barely use this one. But hope to use it when I start travelling in my RV. Love your videos. Be blessed.
Great presentation and chemistry from both of you. Sure, I want more distance in my new ebike so I should be looking for a battery with better wattage. Thanks
Absolutely! We haven't found an ebike company with a bigger battery than Juiced. We've done several reviews of their bikes and now we each ride Juiced bikes. Their range is incredible! Check out our playlists with reviews: ua-cam.com/play/PLSTkbVK0L14VAOJivDCprYn7Cs904xhBc.html
Excellent video. I have been a cyclist since my 20s. I am now 66 and am having knee problems due to arthritis. I want to avoid knee surgery and am thinking an e-bike will help in reducing the amount of demand on my knees. I really enjoyed the technical information. It helped me understand the reason for the huge cost difference.
Awesome! Happy riding to you. We have an updated video answering more ebike shopping questions. Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/gRcyPTDZUqg/v-deo.html

Thank you so much! I've been riding bikes for over 60 years, and it has always been one of the great joys of my life (at the age of 45 I rode 200 miles from Albany, N.Y. to The Bronx in 23 hours!). However, at 69 time is finally catching up with me. A good E-Bike would be the answer to a prayer. Now that I've watched this video I feel that I can make an intelligent selection. I can't wait to get back on the road! Keep up the good work!
This video helped me purchase my current e bike from SWFL Golf Carts and it is easily my best purchase ever. Sharing this video with my friend who is looking for an ebike. THNAK YOU!!

I'm not a recreational biker. Rather, I consider myself more of a pragmatic biker. I'm 75 years old and I bike with my dogs on non-extreme wooded trails and in the last few years on a rather rough, paved hike and bike path. My trips are maximum 15 km. I purchased my first e-bike on a whim when I took my wife's bike in for servicing at a local bike shop. I asked if they sold e-bikes. They did. I took a demo ride and walked out with Trek Verve Lowstep. That was about 2 1/2 years ago. Obviously, I didn't do a lot of research before my purchase and in retrospect, I just got lucky because I'm quite satisfied with my bike. For your viewers who are "pragmatic", non-recreational, non-extreme and senior riders here's my thoughts after owning my e-bike for 2 1/2 years. Purchase from a reputable, local dealer that can do updates and repairs. Get a step-through. Much easier on hips and backs when mounting or dis-mounting. I have pedal-assist only. I would prefer to have a throttle to help me get started on slight inclines or loose soil. Battery life and power is irrelevant if you're not an extreme rider and go on long trips. Ignore the specs especially if you're getting a brand name. Forget about those big, ugly, rugged tires - unless you're looking for an ultra-luxury ride that is easy on your tush. Hub drive v mid drive doesn't matter. Hope this helps some of your viewers. Cheers
Thank you Captain Ron. I think the biggest takeaway from your comment is to know what you plan to do with the bike before purchasing. For some range is the number one concern. For others, off-road is. People who are going to do mountain biking or big hills will need a hub drive. Thanks for watching and happy riding.
@@LizAmazingEver since I bought my e-bike I've kept a log of "distance-between-charges). I charge my bike when it get's down to 25% or less capacity. In 2 1/2 years I got an average km between charges of 115 km (72 miles). I am a senior rider, not expert but an experienced, frequent casual biker. I don't know about mid-drives v hub drivers and frankly, it doesn't matter to me. The only things that concern me are comfort, step-through, throttle and a reliable service center. Hopefully, this will help those in my same situation. Cheers
Hi Anne! Thanks so much! Yes, e-bikes can be a real game-changer. Here is a review we did on Paul's ebike. He's ridden it over 1000 miles and is a good commuter bike or cruiser: ua-cam.com/video/5X6C1oCxPUg/v-deo.html

love the video and Thank you lots 😍. After 5 years fighting cancer and multiple surgeries i'm finally cancer free. My young daughter and i will like to celebrate by going on long bikes rides But because i can’t lift to much weight and with sooo many option Its pretty difficult. Please help 😩
I would recommend getting a step-through ebike. Easy on, easy off. Before I can recommend a bike you need to decide on your budget. Are you willing to spend over $1,000 for a well built bike? Build quality is important because you get what you pay for. The Lectric XP is nice for the price if you want to stay under a grand. Here's a good place to start: electricbikereview.com/best-electric-bikes/
Yes, it's certainly hard to be shopping for an e-bike these days. It's hard to find an ebike under 50 pounds that isn't junk or crazy high expensive. And even 40-50 pounds may be too much for you to list. Another option may be to get a motorcycle ramp and carrier for your car so that you can just use the throttle (lightly) to guide it up. We do recommend Juiced products (Paul's bike is a Juiced and he has over 1000 miles on it) and even have a $100 off coupon code good for any bikes on their website. Here's the code: LIZ100 and here's their website: juicedbikes.com/ Paul's bike is a cruiser, good for commutes. It is the CrossCurrent X. There is also a RipCurrent which is the same bike but with fat tires. Here is our review on Paul's bike: ua-cam.com/video/5X6C1oCxPUg/v-deo.html And CONGRATULATIONS on winning the battle! What an inspiration!!!
@@LizAmazing Yes I've heard many ebike makers are having issues with supply chain coming out of China. The pandemic has adversely affected overseas shipments and manufacturing slowed to a crawl Feb thru Apr. Even Juiced had a 3 to 4 month delay in shipping the new Scorpion.
True. I so appreciate that Juiced is up front with their delivery times. Lectric kept friends of ours waiting...and waiting. There is such a big demand for e-bikes which probably depleted inventory fast, too.
Thank you Lynn! We love our ebikes and think they are the perfect accessory to rv life. We definitely look forward to resuming the traveling life. Be safe!
Thank you guys, that was a very informative and helpful tips. I now have gained more knowledge and confidence in buying my first ebike. My salute to you

Thanks for the great video! Started cycling many decades ago. My first race (which I won) was in the Spring of 1971. Back then I was all about speed. Now it's all about speed and range. I live high in the mountains and its a long distance to civilization. Your video was a wonderful assist for me to get the proper bike. Good comment on getting a certified rack. No, you can't "slide-by" with a non-certified rack. I saw a guy dump his bikes at 70 mph. If you plan to only move the bikes once and not see a need for the expense of a certified rack, then only plan to dump your bike once. Don't be cheap. Spend the little extra to save a lot of money and grief.
Hi Richard! You and Paul would get along well. He's all about the speed. And yes that's a good point about the racks, thank you. If you want to go on a bike ride with us in the real world, here's our video about an upcoming bike tour we are doing: ua-cam.com/video/BmQh0Gzrz40/v-deo.html
Awww, thanks so much. Your comment made Paul and I smile. We just love our ebikes- i ride further and a lot more often for sure! Happy shopping- and riding!
It already did I already made an impulse buy and got the Jetsonj5 electric bike I’m not gonna knock it. You get what you pay for you guys are 100% correct you really need to know what you want it for and what you gonna use it for and me I did not know anything about electric bikes, except that you had to watch out for them before you cross the street so basically I got a bike that would not go as far as I would like it to go, which requires me to make more upgrades so the money that I’m gonna be spending on the upgrades on my bike that didn’t even come with accessories, not even a light to drive at night so definitely I agree because I could’ve just spent all that money in one shot and got exactly what I wanted, but I didn’t know what I want and I got something on an impulse and I suggest others don’t make the same mistake as I did because now I have like a BMX style legal street bike that I found myself upgrading first it’s the battery then the controller and of course I’m getting the fardriver controller which cost more than my electric bike, but I understand the system that needs to be put there in order to create the safety and for the safety safety to stay in place there has to be communication going on. I’ve been watching all over about these electric bikes and it’s about creating the safe system that works together without overheating and I see the controller needs to talk and I find that to be the best controller to get this job done then I’m going for the 1500 W rear motor and then I am at where I wanted to be in the first place so yeah I would’ve spent $1200 or $1500 and something that I would’ve wanted in the first place. The Jetson only cost me like $500 that was it and you get what you pay for because they had plastic pedals and a little bell that you ring like a school bell but you get other people safety is the most important part of this. I really got to enjoy the Jetson electric bike for what it was and for what it is I’m enjoying it. I just feel like I might’ve picked a more powerful Jetson instead of just going in and say yeah let me get that one right there that looks cool without even reading into it 15.5 miles an hour. I would rather have bought this bike 28 miles an hour. I would’ve definitely purchased the bike that I had would have wanted the whole time because I don’t think somebody should be able to just jog up to you and take you off your bike or if an emergency you need to like get with traffic because there’s no more bike lane. I would want to be able to keep up with the cars somewhat not fully not fully. I’m not looking for a motorcycle. I’m not looking for a car and I’m sorry for making it so long. You probably didn’t even read it or maybe you did, but I just think this subject is really important, especially for parents for their children and things in that nature, I need to understand between a child’s electric bike, a teenagers, electric bike, and a grown person’s electric bike and a difference between what you want to use electric bike for so this is a very important subject and thank you great content
Thank you! We just did a review on Paul’s e-bike, check it out: Electric Bike Review | Juiced CrossCurrent X | 1000 mile ebike review | Fulltime Rv Living ua-cam.com/video/5X6C1oCxPUg/v-deo.html
Looking at e-bikes ourselves, and came across one being made (possibly assembled) local to me, with the brand name Dost, where if you get the auxiliary battery (second attaches to the main) the advertising states 120 miles. I looked at some reviews, and they seem well thought out, and I believe it sells for just under $3K. "Canadian $$". I won't be in any hurry to jump into one, although I had noticed one other higher end bike, there is a 3 month minimum waiting period, as they can't keep up with the sales! They're taking orders for November I believe, and this is just late July! Hope you two are having a fabulous time overall, and especially when touring on your bikes! Look forward to any additional 'bike' info in future videos! Thanks!
Yes! E-bike sales are going through the roof. I am not familiar with Dost but already they sound like a good company because of being honest about their shipping dates. We have heard many stories of e-bike companies taking your money and then making buyers wait months before delivering. We just did a review on Paul's e-bike. He's had it for 1000 miles and loves it. Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/5X6C1oCxPUg/v-deo.html And thanks for your comment and for watching. Happy e-bike shopping to you!
@@LizAmazing - Thanks Liz. Wondering if you two have done much with regard to 'locks' and/or ability for individuals to do all they can to 'keep' their bikes without getting them stolen? I believe that will be the next big thing for these more expensive bikes, is the ability to thwart thieves and what is out there on the market to stop them from being stolen! Also, apparently there are GPS trackers out now, albeit bikes would be harder to hide them on, but that might be at least a partial option for adding to one's bike to possibly get it back? Thanks for your reply, much appreciated Liz!
You are spot-on! We actually did have one of our bikes stolen and believe you absolutely must protect them with several factors -- and don't rely on your insurance to cover a theft. You need to call your agent. Here is our video about the aftermath of our bike theft: ua-cam.com/video/mGV7YOC15pA/v-deo.html
Hay Liz and Paul! I took a leap of faith and purchased a 24' camper! I've lived on the road before and am so excited to be back out. Hope to see y'all out here, on the route to happiness! lol😊
Lot's of E-bike reviews show throttle only distance. I find that pedaling just a little can double or triple the range. Low pedal assist can get me 70 miles on a 14AH 48V battery on a 750w motor. I carry an extra battery most of the time. Slow riding on the flats are where an E-bike shines. Go slower to get more range. Headwind will kill range, but a tailwind will draw almost no power.
Good tips. The Juiced RipCurrent and CrossCurrents have some of the biggest batteries we've seen. The throttle only distance is 52 miles, easy to do 70 if not on high assist. Thanks for watching.
Buy an ebike from a shop that sells and services them. SO IMPORTANT ‼️ We love our Aventon Sinch and Level 2. Cadence for easy peasy riding; torque for regular bike feel, more exercise.
Very good check list for potential e bike buyers. I have a twist throttle that has an on- off switch for safety which I find better than a thumb throttle . Nice to see a guy/ gal duo discussing e bikes! Thanks for this helpful video!
Enjoy cycling, never had an e-bike. They are becoming sooo popular now, even e-skateboards. At 68 here, think I will get one. Many thanks for all the great tips.
I'm not sure they mentioned this, but you ALWAYS want pedal assist (in other words, you can pedal it home like a non-motorized bike) in case you have an electrical problem or you just "ran out of gas" accidentally.......the pedal assist doesn't reduce the power of the motor or battery, and not only is it required in some states like CA and most of Europe, it adds probably only $ 20 or less to the cost since it's usually just basically a motor cut-off. Almost all ebikes now have it (they would be killed in the market otherwise making them unmarketable in CA) and almost all ebikes have non-resisting motors, meaning that if the motor is turned off, it freely spins forward. Many people who have never ridden an ebike don't realize that if the motor is running, if you "take your thumb off the electricity," just like a car, the motor will assist in braking. Just one more item to mention: In CA, the DMV law is that ebike limit for motors is 750W. The purpose is to limit ebike speed to not over 30 MPH, which the CA-DMV regards unsafe for bicycles. I agree with them, because -- an ebike usually weighs from 30-50 lbs more than most non-ebikes, because the motor is usually over 20 lbs., and the battery can be anywhere between 10-40 lbs. (Because it's NOT against the law to use 3 x 12V lead-acid batteries, wired in series --- which I used on my first ebike).
Thanks for the ebike vid. I would be interested in one or two follow-up vids on this subject. - One thing to keep in mind,... is that don't assume that your ebike is waterproof. I've seen ebikes kick on / short on because of rain. - Nice shirt logo.... . "The salt must flow".
I too was a hard core cyclist in my day. My favorite thing was cross country touring. 100 mile rides were No Big Deal. Personal Best was 6th place at the Hotter than Hell Ride in Texas in 1991.(106 degree day, 4 hrs, 6 minutes start to finish including stops)(would have won that one, but threw the chain off at 46 miles and it took me the rest of the ride to catch back up to the front where I was riding when the chain jumped off the gears. Was just too spent to pass those last 5 guys. before the finish line. But I tried.) Have ridden across the USA, Coast to Coast. Good memories. Probably have ridden !00,000 miles or more in my llifetime, because I also commuted 14 miles each day to work for 26 years. 250 mile loops on a weekend was not abnormal. Fort Worth to Austin once a month was normal for me and my racing partner. Suffered a Heat Stroke at work 2006 and had to give up most of it. Wife rides a little, but not hard core. I turn 70 in a few days and am recovering from two shattered feet and fracturing both legs in an accident late January 2019. (Long Story) Now I want to get back into road cycling, but not hard core. (Yet!) Shopping for a EBike I can do 35 mile loops on. Thats the distance to my grandsons and back. A few good hills to do on the route without a lot of traffic. Sadly No Bike Paths or Lanes on the route. Second battery or charging at their place and option, of course. Some gravel roads and lots of pot holes to stay off the FM Roads that have way too fast traffic. I live in the Country, they are in the burbs. Figure the right EBike will help get my cardo back up and get me home when my feet give up on me. Plan is to not use much motor at first and save to ride home and those big hills I can't hammer anymore. We also have a big RV, so it will be packed on the back with the Motorcycle on it's rack. Designed and built it to carry both. Hoping to get my wife into eBikes, because she normally could not keep pace with me on my road or mountain bicycles. Even bought a Burley tandum so she could ride with me, but it was too much for her. Pace, Distance, Heat, and Constant Saddle complaints. (I have spent a fortune trying to find a saddle she was happy with. Tried them all) So I gave up riding it with her. And she with me! Just around the block was never fun because of her slow pace! SHe's only 5" 2" 105 lbs. I use to do 20 to 25 MPH for hours. Hope to get back to at least 15 to 18 mph soon. Wearing out a Sunny Stationalry bike now. But I miss the adventures. The views and wind in my hair. Sigh! That's why the ADV Motorcycle too! Great Video Guys, going to subscribe and watch them all. Still have more learning to do about them. (retired high voltage power electrician BTY, so I speak Watts & Amps) A Hybrid/ commuter bike looks like an good option.
Hi Jen! They discontinued it (Swagman) after we made this video. For the past few months we have been testing the Hollywood Racks RV rider. We are a planning a video about it soon. We are very pleased.
Most important things: Motor watts, battery volts and amp hours, tire size, & MOST IMPORTANT get a full suspension if you plan on going off road or over curbs or bumps in the road. Suspension is as important just as much Motor Watts
Thank you for sharing! Sorry to hear about your wrist. My wife broke her ankle July 2021 test riding an ebike for the first time at a bike shop! she stopped abruptly when a car came driving into the parking lot. She put her left foot down to stop and the bike tipped over.
Oh, so sorry to hear that. There definitely is a learning curve because these bikes are so heavy. I hope she is all healed by now. Thanks for watching!
I highly recommend the Aventon Pace 500 Stepthrough. I bought one for $1399.00 with powerful 500 to 750 watts motor, top speed is 28 mph, 20 mph on throttle only. I tried many ebikes in the past & in my opinion this Aventon Pace 500 Step is the winner, the best affordable ebike made with excellence in craftsmanship, engineering and design. I am in love with my Aventon Pace 500 Stepthrough. It is perfect. I love the Stepthrough design. No need to lift my leg to mount it. It is a lightweight 48 pounds. Powerful and quiet that can go uphill like a breeze, great powerful hydraulic disc brake, great pedal assist which helps me at the traffic light stop for an easy & fast get away by just pedaling lightly. The Samsung battery is a powerful 48 volts with a range of 30 miles. To use the thumb throttle you have to pedal first to activate the thumb throttle which is a safety feature & I agree. I love the wide lcd display, the Shimano Altus 8 speed shifter, wide cushy saddle & large comfortable tires. Gives you the ultimate balance in comfort & power with a relaxed upright sitting position in a wide cushy saddle. I guarantee this ride will keep you smiling all day. Stay safe & happy during this pandemic.
The battery of my ScottStrike is 1000 euros, sometimes 800 euros. But im not complaining, i get the bike as a gift from my brother. And its very fit for commuting in my city.
For the bicycle purist , the exercise involved is the whole thing BUT as you get older that electric assist starts to sound pretty good. Thanks very much for giving this invaluable info so I can make a better informed choice.
This video was everything I needed to know and more. Finally a non biased view from 2 obviously wise people. Also, this man wins at life. A beautiful positive wife, an RV life, and now ebikes. God bless the both of you and thanks for this information.

THANK YOU!

Wow!
I want to personally thank you for making this video. Before watching it, I was confused about the whole battery thing. I had read plenty about them, but I still couldn't make heads or tails. But through your easy and simple explanation, the fog has disappeared and I finally know exactly what I'm looking for.

Liz Amazing I’m considering doing the same thing. This all sounds like good advice
Am working for now but, living in my Prius to save more. Loving the savings compared to the bay areas high rent.
How’s the RV life going?

@@LizAmazing this is boring
I have a sup with a motor. I'm really old
The information I need it, I'm 54 and the sport I love the most is cycling, but since I got to this contry I stop, now I'm old and out of shape, but E-bikes are giving me a new hope.
Cellphones too discharge all the way so no memory build up
there is no memory build up in LIPO batteries.
Well duh,,,,,you bought a low end el cheapo bicycle with a little electric motor and battery,,,the battery was the most expensive part so what did you expect.
How do you drain the battery without using it?
I own a Trek Verve e-bike (love it!) and two major consideration before purchasing are repairs and warranty. When your motor, display or battery need repairing or replaced where are you going to take it? What’s covered under the warranty? The batteries alone can cost up to $500. Trek has an excellent warranty and ubiquitous stores. Buying an e-bikes on-line from a company with no physical store was a sticking point for me. And I can almost guarantee many of these companies won’t be around
a few years from now.

@@hernanlecea7041 Mine was just a pretty generic Chinese e-bike with the battery sat behind the seat post and a rear hub motor.

Yay, so glad it helped. We just posted an updated ebike shopping video, check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/gRcyPTDZUqg/v-deo.html
Stay safe!

Awesome information, This is the video I was looking for. I'm on the market to buy my first ebike and I don't wanna make a mistake of buying the wrong one. Thanks for the advice and information!
So glad we could help. We just did a video on Paul's ebike. He's had it for over 1000 miles and loves it. Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/5X6C1oCxPUg/v-deo.html
Great information about calculating range and configurations. I'm just beginning my search for an e-bike, and this was really helpful!
Hi Hilary, so glad it helped! We just did a 1000 mile review on Paul's e-bike AND have a promo code for $100 off. Check it out: ua-cam.com/video/5X6C1oCxPUg/v-deo.html
I love your videos, you're so helpful! I love that you put the important stuff in the description too so I can read the info you're giving as well. Thank you so much!
Oh that is so kind of you to say! So glad. Hope to see you on the bike trail!
I have watched several of your videos. The best part is seeing you two holding hands. So nice to see. Keep it up
Awww, Jim, thanks so much!!! See you in the next video!
Great discussion.
Disagree on a few points:
- throttle only is best for me. I pedal all the time and use the throttle to help as needed
- as a former motorcycle rider, I am totally comfortable with a twist throttle
Agree:
- wattage is the power of the motor.
- I recommend 749 watt motors which is the max watts allowed on bicycle trails in my state.
notes:
My ebike has a 48v motor, and uses a 52v battery.
Thank you for sharing your notes, so helpful, and for watching! Happy riding!
Yes! Great tip, thanks so much for your comment and kind words!
Bought my first e-bike which was throttle only in 2022. I returned it in less than 10days. Bought Pedal assist, loving it and just ordered a bigger pedal assist/ throttle with bigger battery juice.
Nice! Hope to see you on the bike trail, and thanks for watching.
This is a very helpful video! ive learned so much from this especially on understanding the range, that bit was most helpful.
Great job you two! Excited to have my first ebike

What about a recumbent trike three wheels ? Easier on the back and bottom
Yes, lots to consider. That's why doing the math to know the real range is so important. Thank you!
Patrick where did you get this conversion kit?
@@Edwardsjourney I got mine off e-bay but I see these guys have a similar kit

e-bay kit
www.ebay.com/itm/Voilamart-Electric-Bicycle-E-Bike-26-Front-Rear-Wheel-Motor-Conversion-Kit-/322247604604?var=&hash=item0
you'll have to figure out a battery, I had those wire baskets in the back so I made some boxes to fit in them and got some used cells from
batteryhookup.com/collections/lifepo4-batteries
but it looks like they don't have the LiFePo4 batteries right now.
That battery thing is tricky and needs some study. Can be dangerous but is do able.
I would suggest doing some math first. It might be better to just buy an e-bike. Check out Rad, nice bikes at good prices.

HI! Welcome to the channel. We are glad to have you with us. And congrats on your upcoming retirement. I bet you are counting the days!
Hello, i picked out a cheap bike off e bay $629.99 shipped with 350 watt motor and 10.4 amp battery., About 15 MPH on the sand and 19 MPH ON THE BOARDWALK, ,and faster with the wind on my back.,
Nice because of my bad leg I can now get to the back bay fishing spots.

Just ordered my wife a Rad City 3. Rad bikes are rad! I'm still looking for a kick ass hybrid with good suspension. For sure pedal assist and throttle. Get a spare battery for the somewhat occasional long trips.
That's awesome!

@@LizAmazing what bike is good I got to 25mile what one good
Thanks, Very informative and entertaining even to an 80 year old that's on his 3rd e-bike.
Thanks again for a great video but don't knock a 250 watt
motor.
Hi Peter. You are right! If you don't need assist up hills (or don't have hills near you) then a 250W is just fine. In fact, 250W is all that's legal in Europe. All it means is you'll be doing more of the work going uphill. Glad to hear you are enjoying your ebike. Sir/Mam, This was the best explanation of ebikes that I've ever seen. I've been looking for a while and finally got an explanation I can understand. Even the bike shops are pretty vague when explaining range power volts and watts. Thank you

Be blessed.
Thanks for sharing your story. Yes, 30mph is FAST on a bicycle! Hope to see you in a campground someday.

Cheers

After 5 years fighting cancer and multiple surgeries i'm finally cancer free. My young daughter and i will like to celebrate by going on long bikes rides But because i can’t lift to much weight and with sooo many option Its pretty difficult. Please help 😩
I would recommend getting a step-through ebike. Easy on, easy off. Before I can recommend a bike you need to decide on your budget. Are you willing to spend over $1,000 for a well built bike? Build quality is important because you get what you pay for. The Lectric XP is nice for the price if you want to stay under a grand. Here's a good place to start:
electricbikereview.com/best-electric-bikes/
Yes, it's certainly hard to be shopping for an e-bike these days. It's hard to find an ebike under 50 pounds that isn't junk or crazy high expensive. And even 40-50 pounds may be too much for you to list. Another option may be to get a motorcycle ramp and carrier for your car so that you can just use the throttle (lightly) to guide it up. We do recommend Juiced products (Paul's bike is a Juiced and he has over 1000 miles on it) and even have a $100 off coupon code good for any bikes on their website. Here's the code: LIZ100 and here's their website: juicedbikes.com/
Paul's bike is a cruiser, good for commutes. It is the CrossCurrent X. There is also a RipCurrent which is the same bike but with fat tires. Here is our review on Paul's bike: ua-cam.com/video/5X6C1oCxPUg/v-deo.html
And CONGRATULATIONS on winning the battle! What an inspiration!!!
And be careful with Lectric-- we are hearing from people who ordered and then waited MONTHS before receiving their bike.

Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/5X6C1oCxPUg/v-deo.html
And thanks for your comment and for watching.
Thank you and you made great insights for us to learn or consider. Keep it up! Subscribed and liked...
Yay! Welcome to our channel. More good stuff to come about ebikes as well as Rv living. Thanks for your kind words.

Hay Liz and Paul! I took a leap of faith and purchased a 24' camper!
I've lived on the road before and am so excited to be back out.
Hope to see y'all out here, on the route to happiness! lol😊
Danny, that is so awesome! Congratulations! Paul and I look forward to seeing you on the road! Happy trails!

You guys are so cute! #goals
Love the video. Thank you.
Awww, thanks so much. Happy e-bike shopping, and riding to you!
And we just posted a 1000 mile review on Paul's e-bike, check it out: : ua-cam.com/video/5X6C1oCxPUg/v-deo.html
Buy an ebike from a shop that sells and services them. SO IMPORTANT ‼️ We love our Aventon Sinch and Level 2. Cadence for easy peasy riding; torque for regular bike feel, more exercise.
Every ebike store I've come in contact with will service them all, not just what they sell. Money is monty. Thanks for watching and happy riding.
Very good check list for potential e bike buyers. I have a twist throttle that has an on- off switch for safety which I find better than a thumb throttle . Nice to see a guy/ gal duo discussing e bikes! Thanks for this helpful video!
You are so welcome! Happy ebike riding to you!

Enjoy cycling, never had an e-bike. They are becoming sooo popular now, even e-skateboards. At 68 here, think I will get one. Many thanks for all the great tips.
Yes, definitely try an e-bike NOT an e-skateboard! LOL! We can't believe how scary those boards look as they whizz by! And thanks for your comment!
Thank you for all of your great tips. I just picked up mine this week. I’m loving it so far.
Really Amazing Liz. Practical, well organized, and obviously from two knowledgeable e-bike users...... finally.
Thank you so very much! Happy riding to you and see you on the bike trail
But I tried.)
Have ridden across the USA, Coast to Coast.
(Yet!)
Shopping for a EBike I can do 35 mile loops on.
Tried them all)
So I gave up riding it with her.
(retired high voltage power electrician BTY, so I speak Watts & Amps)
A Hybrid/ commuter bike looks like an good option.
Liz and Paul, do you have a link you can share for your bike rack? I don’t see it in the description.
Hi Jen! They discontinued it (Swagman) after we made this video. For the past few months we have been testing the Hollywood Racks RV rider. We are a planning a video about it soon. We are very pleased.
Good to see your back is better Liz. Glad to see you are having fun again.
Yes, indeed! Thanks for being with us through thick and thin!
Most important things: Motor watts, battery volts and amp hours, tire size, & MOST IMPORTANT get a full suspension if you plan on going off road or over curbs or bumps in the road. Suspension is as important just as much Motor Watts
Good point. I love my full suspension! Happy riding to you!

Wow, it sounds like a nice bike. Thanks for letting us know about it. Step throughs are hard to find as are ebikes lightweight enough to lift.
Thanks so very much! See you on the bike trail!
