thanks for this public video. ive wanted to do this for awhile now, and when describing what a life coach is, I receive lots of ambigious looks. I can use this to better explain to my peers my goal of coaching.
And to think I’ve been doing this exact same thing with the people around me and had no clue it could be a career....man, wish I could have watched something like this 10 years ago! May I ask, how does one START? Does it take much in the way of funds to start being a life coach? How do you get yourself out there and for people to take you seriously when you start out? And lastly, do some people come back and get angry that what you helped them with didn’t work out and they wanted you to compensate them, how do you handle any kind of backlash or avoid this from happening? (Sorry that was more of a triple question lol)
Excellent description of life coaching, I can also tell you genuinely are motivated to help people reach their dreams and potential. Very true for some people they need some guidance to help them stay on track with their objectives. I find mindfulness helps and always remaining self-aware otherwise I personally will not make all the best choices to meet my objectives. All the best to you and wishing optimal health in body/mind and spirit to everyone including animals too, I love animals, I am vegan too!

Hi Kirsten, I was just lollipopping around the internet for a few minutes and clicked on your vid, and just wanted to say that your approach and intelligence are evident from it. It's not that often that I look at a video and say, "Nice," but a couple of times I did that while watching yours and found myself engaged through the whole thing (all 3 minutes :-)). It's also nice to see someone whose organization of thought is on display rather than the all-too-common cheerleading approach to "helping" people. I used to be an independent living Advocate. This means that I help people with disabilities stay out of Institutions and integrate themselves into the community. I feel that I have many transferable skills when it comes to being a life coach. Where can I go to learn more about this field? I am good at helping people set goals, stay accountable, and be non-judgmental. I've handled people in crisis, acted as a peer mentor to them, and I've had some success with them. I'm thinking of becoming a life coach but need to know more.
Life coaching = outsourcing of major life decisions to a total stranger. Psychotherapy is about the same, only with a bit more psych theory thrown in. In both cases, the main question is -- what qualifies someone to give life advice to another?

Therapists don't just look at your past. In fact, that is just one theoretical orientation (psychodynamic). Others such as CBT certainly look at how you are now. The difference from a life coach is that they are able to treat mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. Life coaches should not be treating these clients and should instead refer them to a therapist.

I would like a life coach someone from everyone else in my life i could speak to about my life but then again i guess saying that at this point in my life i can see what I have overcome and i still have a lot of ambitions so i suppose its only a matter of time before something new or something different comes into my life.
I offer transformational coaching packages that include 6 sessions. Some clients continue and work for another 6 after that as well or book for the full year from the beginning. It depends on your goals and how big of a stretch they are and over what time period you want to achieve them. I find that during the course of the 6 sessions a significant transformation occurs which is so fun to be part of ;)
