I always write A and B in permanent marker on my bottle tops, just for extra assurance that I don’t put them on the wrong bottles. Also, after I use a mold for the first time, I weigh the cured project and that gives me the approximate amount that I need to mix for the next time I use the mold, divided into the appropriate proportions, of course. I Write the weight on the bag I keep the mold in so I will know the next time how much Resin I need to mix.

I’ve taken to doing my resin work on a reptile heating mat with a silicone mat covering it. Been working great.
I wrap my bottles in a seed starter mat which has a thermostat I can set to the temperature I want. It takes a while but there is always something else to do while I wait. I also use that mat to keep the pieces at a good even temperature during curing. The mat doesn’t stay heating the whole time, if it senses the curing temp is higher than the setting, it will blink off for a while ✅. And With all your tips above, I don’t have 50% seconds any more. Also looking forward to trying your resin curing heater, but I already have the seed starter mat with thermostat.
I used to use those oval containers all the time. Then one day, Erika from Artist Till Death sent me a small Stone Coat Art Coat to try. I was having a bit of an issue with it curing. So next day, I thought I would try again. When I looked at the bottles, one of them had a lot less. I knew (because I always check) that they were even amounts when they came. So I took that container out to my kitchen and and got a measuring cup, and sure enough, it was so off!!! I checked all of them that I had and they were all off. I have noticed on directions that it says to use a round measuring cup. So I do not use those anymore except to mix things after I've measured. But I do check all of my stuff now before I use resin to make sure that it measures correctly.

My findings is if you're not going to use much resin for a project, use UV resin. Some I have can cure in seconds with a UV flashlight

I have spent months watching you talk about how great the J Diction resin is, I have spent literally hundreds of dollars buying cheaper brands of resins. I must have 6 gallons within a 6-month resin art addiction 🤣🤦finally I gave in and I bought the JDiction and OMG this is the best resin I can't believe how easy it is to work especially with me being so new at this... great work time beautiful cures very very minimal bubbles! it's just beautiful resin! next time I'll just go ahead and buy what you say is the best🤣🤣

Good advice . Some scales do ml as well as mg. . With scales ensure they are on a hard flat surface and change the battery , I noted when I started getting odd things happen the battery needed changing

Thank you for this video. I'm getting better at using resin, but still make a lot of mistakes. I've been using baby wipes but just bought some alcohol wipes as I thought they would be better. Thank you for letting me know they may ruin my molds. The wipes were very inexpensive so no problem, and I can use them elsewhere. I learned the get down and look at the measurements when learning to bake so been doing that with my resin. I like that you use on cup to measure. Some resins say measure in 2 separate cups then pour one into the other. Your way makes more sense, because there is always a little resin left in the cup you pour from. I keep watching your videos and someday I'm going to get it right. You make everything look so easy. Thanks again.

@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts yes that's true . Any tips on lacing I mostly use alcohol dyes and now have resin oil based dyes . How do I get that effect do I need to purchase a silicone based dye . It's driving me crazy getting there 🤷☹️

Learned the hard way about mixing the resin with the a/c on, had no problem during the cooler months when the heat was on, now have to warm up the resin 1st, and sweat my a$$ off when working with the resin because the vent is closed and covered in the room I’m working in, only way to keep the bubbles out..and it got HOT and HUMID here in Georgia..

I had no idea that there was a limit on minimum amt of resin that should be mixed up! Glad to know this! I've never had a problem with JDiction 2 part epoxy, but that's sure no guarantee it wouldn't happen with a lower quality resin! TY so much for this caution! 😊❤
Thanks for a lot of great tips. I have a question about knowing how much resin to mix up. How do you measure the volume of your molds before you mix your resin? I am thinking I could just fill it with water to find the volume and then make sure I dry it well before using it for the resin. Is that going to be accurate? How about when you add glitter or mica or other add-ins. That would increase the volume. Do you reduce the amount of resin you mix? Or do you use the measured amount and then just pour the extra into a small mold. I know you have lots of practice and have learned the amounts you need but I am always impressed how it seems you have exactly the right amount of each color when you divide the resin into separate cups for coloring.

When working with a resin that is 2 or 3 parts A and one part B it is necessary to pour the hardener into the resin so there is no hardening going on while you are still pouring and beginning to mix, especially if it’s a large pour. The resin needs to be chemically balanced and evenly mixed before it starts changing and heating. It’s a good habit to get into with smaller projects so you have it in place if you decide to do a larger pour. People will hear you say it doesn’t matter and then go do a 3 liter project where it does matter and their project will be ruined. It’s just best to always pour the hardener ( part B ) into the resin (part A) no matter what the size. Even small pours it is best to mix the hardener into the resin, when you start stirring you are moving the hardener around more keeping it fluid to blend with the resin better.

Hi Steve, thanks for another helpful video. I always seem to have problems if I add alcohol inks to my coaster. They don't seem to cure, or maybe they need longer to cure? I never have problems with pigment or mica powder only the inks. Do you know what I'm doing wrong? Oh can you do a video showing your wee dogs? I would love to see them. My wee dog " in my picture" is called Gizmo he's a little Shih Tzu x
Yes thank you for your page i really love all your resin ideas but I have a question how do you keep the resin from separating everytime i put it on a cup or a mold the resin separates and looks like air hose it dries really ugly
Also do you own or use. Silicone stirrers and I do think lollipop sticks are a if new create bubbles and when used they are non recyclable. AMD yes I have your favourite stirrers which are great but find silicone ones so much better for silicone pots as I like eco friendly products 👌💯🎯
I've been putting part B first, & then A on top, because when i did it the other way around, i could tell that part B was staying toward the top & not moxing all the way. I could tell because it was yellow compared to part A. Now that i switched the order, they are mixing better. Part A is inclined to sink to the bottom. (I'm assuming it's denser.)

Hi Steve. You mentioned FLASH CURING . What is this ?. I am having problems with my resin. It kind of separates and leave dimples. Thank you and keep up the good work.
Flash cure is that the resin reacts immediately, so in a few minutes your resin is hard, there's coming smoke of the resin , but just put it outside and don't try to pour it out of the mold, just let it cool outside so that you can save your mold after the flash cure, I had it one time that the resin ashtray was still usable, but had 2 times that I had to throw the resin away, it's going to get cloudy and really weird texture,I had a flash cure a few times it was with really warm weather and one time that it was cold, so I put the A and B in a little (to hot) water to get the cloudiness away in the resin, when I mixed it it started immediately to cure, and for dimples in your resin search on UA-cam 'dimples in my resin' or 'how to fix pits in resin' or 'getting dimples in my resin' there will be a few video's on YT about it

I have problems with my resin sometimes. Some times some of my products come out soft and I don’t know why. I use to do it by eye and now I use a digital scale and I try to have a little more of part A then B! Can you please help me? I am new to this craft! Tky and god bless and stay safe

@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts I've tried so many brands and they all seem to create lint that ends up in my art. I had to recover a commission piece 6 times because I could never get all the lint out. Such a huge waste of time and money! Do you not have that problem with Huggies?
Aldi has very good baby wipes, much cheaper than name brands. No lint coming off them that I've ever seen.
Why not let the rosin cure on the sticks one time, then they are smoother.
This is one time we DON"T want the bubbly . . . . :)

You should never recommend people to add resin and hardener into the same pot they should be measured out in separate pots then added together. Just incase you pour a little bit to much of either components...🫤🥺🙄
