I take my 4 year old to the movies and after each preview, ask her "Should we see that one?" and she usually says "yes" with varying levels of excitement. This is the first one where without even hesitating said "No."
This would be a pretty good premise if Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends didn't exist. Hell, there was even a special where one of the imaginary friends went to go find his maker who grew up.
Rather ironic that going the slightly less creative route of making it a Foster's live action film, might've ended up being a far more appealing project.
Oh yeah Good Wilt Hunting? I remember that episode, it was a sad one about Wilt but it was good, at least of what I remember since I probably haven't seen it in close to a decade
Am I the only kid who just had like... a human as an imaginary friend? I always was confused why Fosters had all these crazy monsters as imaginary friends. Maybe I just wasn't very imaginative.
I never had an imaginary friend but everyone I've heard talk about theirs had a human. Usually they have magic powers or something but it's still a human. In shows and movies it's always monsters but that doesn't seem common to me in real life. Maybe that makes it more clear that they're imaginary and not just invisible or magic. That's actually a pretty interesting subject now that you bring it up.
I had an imaginary dragon when I was a kid... But like who would want a purple fur ball or a burning marshmallow as an imaginary friend? Edit: I just remembered that I also would talk to my hand but I think that has less to do with imagination and more to do with the fact that I fell on my head when I was 4.
My imaginary friend wasn’t a cut and dry human but still humanoid, because I was really into fantasy and monsters as a kid. I think having just a human as an imaginary friend is pretty standard though, I’ve never met anyone who described theirs (if they had one) as anything other than humanoid
They want so badly to turn Awkwafina into the new Gilbert Gottfried and it feels unearned. Also, why is Ryan huskily whispering all of his lines? Foster's designs were unique and fun, these "IFs" are very bland but marketable stickers you'd find in a dollar store.
The thing I think a lot of people forget is: Awkwafina CAN act, especially given the right material. She deservedly won a Golden Globe for her role in The Farewell, which she was terrific in! Yet it's a bummer she keeps getting stuck in roles that seem to typecast her.
I'm struggling to think of an analogy for this, but the characters saying IF as an acronym for "imaginary friend" feels so... corporate. I don't know how to explain it
I came up with some fucked up concepts with this premise, one of them is imagine an imaginary friend comes into existence, but hates its existence and is constantly suffering, like, it's the definition of "I didn't ask to be born." The other one was what if an imaginary friend gets abandoned by their child, since they grew up, but can never find a new home because adults don't take interest in them due to them being "too weird", and for some reason other kids don't find interest in them. Both ideas are probably more interesting than the actual movie's plot.
This trailer gives off Dolittle vibes. Just turn the inspirational music up to 150% and that immediately makes this a profound, prestige family film. The tone of the film will not remotely resemble the tone of this trailer.
it’s funny that they chose a song about being old and depressed that you don’t talk to any of your friends anymore for their epic whimsical childhood fantasy movie.
Unironically Disney made a more interesting version of the abandoned imaginary friend concept in the 90’s called ‘Don’t Look Under The Bed’. Not only was the imaginary friend a humanoid, as most imaginary friends tend to actually be, but it had a very mature message about growing up and growing out of childish habits and whims. Also IF is just very blatantly derivative of Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, but that goes without saying.
That was one of my favourite movies as kid, I’d get excited whenever it was advertised for the weekend movie blocks. Also the IFs is killing me like I get they wanna shorten it and have a slang term for their movie but of my god it sounds so lame I’d actually take a live action Foster’s Home or Imaginary Friends over this trying to not be Foster’s
Imagine Ryan Reynolds looking up reactions to the trailer. Finds this video, has no idea who Adam is and hears the first minute or so about him having brain dementia for not uploading in 4k.
Christopher Meloni was, interestingly, in a TV show called Happy! where he talked to an imaginary cartoon dragon thing. He was also on Law and Order SVU and OZ.
The other day I looked at upcoming movies and saw this, and the first thing I noticed was how AWFUL the design team was. These look so so weak and boring. You could just have kids draw their imaginary friend or what they think of and use those. Besides it being so similar to foster home, the look and feel of this movie is so bland and just...pathetic. Like these designs are so weak and boring, it's crazy to me that this is a real movie.
Like, Little Miss Cuphead near the beginning is at least a storyboard sketch that could go somewhere, but that's some thin goddamn gruel for what's supposed to be a film about the wonders of imagination.
I am autistic and I do advocate for the abolishment of car-centric urbanism and the development of vast rail networks for both comercial and transportational pourposes.
You are really great Olivia! Honestly I was surprised Adam didn't recognize "All My Friends" by LCD Sound System. It's an even weirder music choice than he realized, since it's a super dark song about midlife alienation and impending death. A perfect score for a children's movie!
wait wait this is just the premise of Happy! on netflix. i knew recognized it. literally just imaginary friends if they still existed, this is just the non Ted version
There’s a film by Studio Ponoc (the same studio that made Mary and the Witch’s Flower) called The imaginary. It seemed like it handled the concept of imaginary friend better. Also, it is more visually engaging.
this winter has been rough for me, coldest ever and next to no sun. :( so i love your videos, i usually have your channel playing in the background when im working and it helps. im glad youre feeling better! and i hope good things happen in your new year ☆
Seeing extra time leftover when we fade from Adam means words from Olivia. You do good work and hope you continue to get support from the fans, Olivia.
Not only do they have the problem of this concept being done much better in Foster’s, but this movie feels like something that should been left in the 2010’s, like if this movie were made a decade ago maybe it would have had a chance but there no hope for this at this time. Also them trying to make a slang term to attach to their movie instead just saying imaginary friend and they came up with IF, oh my god it sounds so lame
Olivia, your ending message was soooooo sweet 😭 I want you to know that you are so incredibly supported and embraced here. So proud to be a YMS Highlights girly 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

You bring me adum content I'd never see otherwise cuz I don't follow his twitch that much. Your work is much appreciated and I'm glad you're in a better head space now. You deserve it
This movie actually scared me. I kid you not this is one of the worst looking film trailers I have ever seen. I can not exaggerate how creepy, terrifying and gross this movie looks. I hate it so much. Fuck this movie
This whole trailer is a testament on what happens when you don't hire furry artists to do furry characters. Fuck me IV seen better divientart OC than this.

I really liked A Quiet Place, but this looks like a step backwards for Krasinski. Overuse of bad CGI, jokes that insist upon themselves and are drawn out, and a very predictable plot. I had to check, and Krasinski did not write (only directed) A Quiet Place, whereas he is the writer and director for this. I’m curious if watching this might give Adam more appreciation for A Quiet Place.
These uh? 'Creatures' all scream "designed by adults trying to appeal to kids". Imagine if they had actually gotten kids to come up with the imaginary friends. Don't think it'd save the movie, but it'd be a hell of a lot less embarrassing.
I know existing ideas can have similarities but…that Grimace guy is literally named Blue…you’re telling me no one on that entire team knew what Foster’s was? Not buying it.

The color grading, shot composition, etc. all feel so bland and the character designs are so generic that they seriously look AI generated. I really hate the art direction in this. Like, the characters themselves don’t necessarily look bad, but the materials applied to them give this odd impression of corporate design. Like these are logos from a commercial animated alongside actors.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who saw the trailer for this film and immediately thought: "this film was made with no imagination at all and is scraping the bottom of the barrel and just looks embarassing."
From the imagination of john krasinski watching Drop Dead Fred...and it's weird that Chris Meloni is in this since he was in Happy, which this also feels like
I take my 4 year old to the movies and after each preview, ask her "Should we see that one?" and she usually says "yes" with varying levels of excitement. This is the first one where without even hesitating said "No."

Which ones did she say yes to?
This would be a pretty good premise if Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends didn't exist.
Hell, there was even a special where one of the imaginary friends went to go find his maker who grew up.
Fosters Home is kino, though Bloo is an absolute cunt
Its mostly about the execution for me, more than other media doing it before
Rather ironic that going the slightly less creative route of making it a Foster's live action film, might've ended up being a far more appealing project.

Let’s see Awkwafina do The Aristocrats
R.I.P Gilbert Gottfried
Wow that is so spot on it gave me cancer
My favorite part will be when Ryan Reynolds says: “And what’s that make us? Some kind of foster home for imaginary friends?”
And everyone laughed and the credits roll and Craig McCracken sues the shit out of John Krasinski
I'm struggling to think of an analogy for this, but the characters saying IF as an acronym for "imaginary friend" feels so... corporate. I don't know how to explain it
Seems like a Slur for Imaginary Friends if you ask me😅
It's like they're trying to turn it into a tagline/trademark
My imaginary friend was literally just the entire Mario Kart Wii lineup
I literally thought this was a fake movie when I saw the trailer for it in theatres, like an ad telling me to turn off my phone
That's so real
Or any of the trailers shown at the beginning of Tropic Thunder.
ryans character is 100% going to be the little girls imaginary friend
They're gonna Sixth Sense it in the worse way possible just watch
Someone saw Detective Pikachu.
dude you nailed it omg lmao
it might seem crazy what im about to say
I was half expecting the trailer to have a tone shift and turn into a horror movie in the beginning
There is a blumhouse film coming out with that premise.
@chandlerj333 Yes, there is. It's called Imaginary. It arrives in theaters this March.

Well, it's the juxtaposition that makes it ART you see! Remember when you were young and happy as opposed to old and depressed. Come watch our movie!
I lowkey feel bad for LCD Soundsystem having their song being used in this awful trailer.
I mean to be fair it does make sense with the plot being about abandoned imaginary friends. That said this looks very bland and uninteresting
Unironically Disney made a more interesting version of the abandoned imaginary friend concept in the 90’s called ‘Don’t Look Under The Bed’. Hollywood's creativeness is nearing bankruptcy.
This feels like it was shot as a horror movie but hastily retooled in editing to become whimsical instead of ominous.
Imagine Ryan Reynolds looking up reactions to the trailer. Finds this video, has no idea who Adam is and hears the first minute or so about him having brain dementia for not uploading in 4k.
I saw this trailer in the theater and I was trying not to giggle with how ridiculous it was
Some people in the chat pointed it out, but it's interesting to me how like all of the jokes in the trailer aren't even jokes.

Christopher Meloni was, interestingly, in a TV show called Happy! where he talked to an imaginary cartoon dragon thing. He was also on Law and Order SVU and OZ.

that movie title is just missing a Y and an extra F.

Everything Rayan Reynolds does is just him playing dead pool and that's it.
