I'm more lenient to any of Nick and Rose's behaviors during this due to them being minors and also they most likely had little say in doing this. I do like how even though Nick and Rose clearly butted heads, they ended it by showing they wished the best for each other. Rose was the only one Nick personally addressed. They're both good kids and I find it funny the two minors had the most adult and mature final letters. Carmen and Bruno basically came on here to teach black people that racism isn't that bad and were upset they got push back. They can get bent.
I think Rose's whole experience really shows that racism is learned behavior. She's not prejudiced, she's just ignorant - but that's excusable due to her age. In addition, she seems actually earnestly interested in the idea, and while she's certainly not doing a great job, she seems to be making the most effort out of any of them to actually fit in better rather than just complaining about how unwelcome she feels.
@@Manigeitorait’s not excusable due to her age. It’s an explanation. That’s where people go wrong. Black kids don’t get excuses. We experience and learn about racism in the single digits. We have to grow up quicker. Some even get racial trauma from the so called ‘immature white kids’ and have to live with the psychological damage for years. People need to realise that when white kids are racist it’s not a victimless crime. White and non black people in general shouldn’t view anti blackness as a form of puberty.
17:40 look at the amount of crossing out and editing. Which is it: a) Bruno really needed to think and edit and fight to clarify his message, or b) the producers read it over and said, “oh you can’t say that. Or that, oh god no, not that”?

I really don't understand how and why people don't talk about this but had time to dig up Judy Garland. As much it's good to know, she's dead and can't be held accountable, besides she was quite young when she did it at that time. Tropic thunder was pretty recent and there was an actual black actor😮😮 so weird
@@tamiausten873 because Judy Garland was being made to participate in mockery-based minstrel shows made with sincerity, and Tropic Thunder is a parody film which is pointing and laughing at the idea of race swapping in films to begin with. Parody can be complex and subtle but it's important to be able to tell the difference between sincerity, parody, and ignorant participation.
@@tamiausten873 A key difference is that RDJ wasn't portraying a black character, he was portraying a white character that was doing blackface. And that blackface was a subject of mockery in the film. Sort of like Edward Norton using slurs in American History X: That's not something to hold against the actor, because it's part of the criticism of the character. In Tropic Thunder, Brandon T Jackson's character explicitly calls out RDJ's character for the blackface. It's not a sincere endorsement of white actors doing blackface, it's a criticism of it.
I kinda feel bad for Rose, she was trying to understand but she didn't realize her trying to understand black people is full black face was not the way to go. She was only 17 and i bet production kept her in blackface even though she told them she was white just to increase tensions. I wish they had only cast adults because shes going to have to grow up with this and probably dealt with backlash at school and from others afterwards which is a lot for a teen to handle. wait is it not normal to take those "can you watch this for me?" like my life depends on me??? I would sacrifice life and limb to defend a stranger's stuff if they put their faith of humanity into *me*, a mere acatar of godhood watching on in this tiny cafe.
it depends on the context IMO. if it's a sketchy dive bar, then I'm going to take my WALLET with me. But if it's a quiet cafe and all of my stuff (including plugged in laptop, etc) is situated around me, then i might ask someone nearby how long they're going to be there and if they're ok just keeping an eye on it while i use the restroom. But i only do it if there's other people around me while I ask this stranger so that the bystanders also become aware that the stranger helping isn't supposed to leave with my things while i'm gone.
The minors probably were more mature because their minds were more elastic. The older people had already had too long to harden and close off.
I do feel like teenagers are more likely to think of the letter writing exercise as an assignment and actually do what they were asked.
@@Manigeitora it’s not excusable it’s an explanation.
17:40 look at the amount of crossing out and editing. Which is it: a) Bruno really needed to think and edit and fight to clarify his message, or b) the producers read it over and said, “oh you can’t say that. Or that, oh god no, not that”?
I wish there was more of the interpersonal relationships shown and less messing by the producers. Let the raw Bruno out

There's a group of rodents known as "spiny mice". They're notable because when they're threatened, they can intentionally drop all their skin to get away the way some lizards drop their tails.
This series makes me wish I could be like the spiny mice and cringe out of my skin to get away.

Carmen: They didn’t learn anything from us? That’s impossible, we’re white!
Imagining Jordan painting his face before the video made me laugh more than it should have. Jarvis and Jordan are the perfect people to talk about this weird show.
I would have been here for Jordan doing white face 🧡😹
Bruno and Carmen saw how low the bar was for white people in 2006 and played limbo.
Oh we're so back. This is my Avengers: Endgame.
Although if we're comparing it to an RDJ movie, it's definitely more Tropic Thunder.
Gagged
It's not a sincere endorsement of white actors doing blackface, it's a criticism of it.
we are so back. white.

She's more racist than Bruno. She's just better at hiding it
Carmen said “opposite” race too 🤡
I kinda feel bad for Rose, she was trying to understand but she didn't realize her trying to understand black people is full black face was not the way to go. She was only 17 and i bet production kept her in blackface even though she told them she was white just to increase tensions. I wish they had only cast adults because shes going to have to grow up with this and probably dealt with backlash at school and from others afterwards which is a lot for a teen to handle. Lets not bring minors into the sketchy controversial show when they do not fully understand what they are signing up. I hope shes done some real growth since then.
from what i've heard she has, she posts a lot of outwardly left wing stuff these days so i'm happy about that at least!
@@mal-b8y That's good to hear. I'm glad she seems to be doing well and continued to educate herself on her own terms. Not that I would consider that show educational in any way seeing as I'm sure they tried to pit them against each other behind the scenes for content. Like they knew someone like Bruno wouldn't change his mind but it'd make for great drama on TV. I wouldn't be shocked if I found out he was secretly a producer in the show lol.
I mean “she’s going to have to grow up with this” is a bit of an overstatement, she’s seventeen at time of shooting lol

wait is it not normal to take those "can you watch this for me?" like my life depends on me??? People have asked me at my favourite cafe because I rarely move around in there unless im ordering another coffee or dropping a tip while i need an excuse to walk around the room.
So there's a backup-to-a-backup.
@@spencerlively3049 yeah thats a fair point. I dont think ive been asked at a bar the same thing, so that woman does seem pretty foolish to leave her things unattended also.
